My fiance took me here as a surprise. He was on a mission to take me to an ethnic restaurant that I have yet to experience. And boy -- he was right!

Ararat is another hidden gem in Orange County -- literally! It is located behind another building, and if you aren't specifically looking for it -- you will definitely miss it!

But this venue is not to be missed!
I don't eat Middle Eastern food too often -- but I am willing to bet that this is what a good home-cooked meal tastes like! It was wonderful! When they found out it was our first time, they kept bringing us little sample plates of the menu. Everything was delicious and divine! The baklava was amazing!!!

Note, this place is the most unpretentious place I've ever been to. It's simple, but definitely gets the job done.

We are definitely coming back and we are bringing our friends with us!

My new favorite Middle Eastern restaurant-
Thought quaint and very modest in decor, the food packs a heavy punch of flavor that will leave you drooling and stuffing yourself beyond repair.
Sister and I started with the Mezza start sampler for two: grape leaves, felafel, hummus, and babba ghanouj with pita bread. D-I-V-I-N-E.
She then had the beef kebob plate that came with the BEST pilaf I have ever had, and roasted tomato.
I got theh Lulah special which came with chicken and beef, as well as the same delightful pilaf. Each entree came with a salad.
The end of our meal finished with delightfully crumbly sesame cookies.
Service was excellent as well- which overall is always the cherry on top to my dining experience.
I highly recommend this place to anyone searching for a good Middle Eastern meal. And with prices like these-- $6-8 a plate? Why not go buck wild?

Love this hole in the wall restaurant. My BF and I come here almost once a week. We are vegetarians so we have not tried the kabobs but hummus, babaganoush, taboleh, grape leaves, salad and the cheese pastries are delicious. I cannot get enough of the salad dressing they use. The people are super friendly and give us complementary baklava for dessert. I believe they are closed on weekends and sometimes for special events. I've never seen the place crowded in fact most of the time my BF and I are the only ones in there but is really delicous. Dont let the emply place scare you. Recently we went but they were closed due to a family emergency, hopefully all is ok and they will open soon. You must try this place.

My husband and I have frequent here since they started to open during the weekday for dinner.

WE LOVE ARMENIAN FOOD... it's the spice they use that's different from all the Arabs and Mediterranean dishes..

Zovi is the only waitress and is super sweet and attentive.

I have yet to come across a restaurant that has a waitress this attentive and on point. She alone deserves a 5 star rating. The food is delicious. The cook came out and asked my husband if he's from the same background and he said no... so she explained the origin, style and spice used in food. Very informative... now I can make it just as good at home.

We visit here at least once a week or every two weeks...

They're generous with their portion and offer bakhlava at the end.

You must start your meal with their appetizers for 2. It comes with hummus, mttabbal, 2 dolma, 2 cheeze pastry, 2 falafel and tabouleh. (small $6 and large $8)

Do not expect Golden Nights or Layaleena when you walk in... because the decor is not over the top... but definitely....... the food is so delicious.

Tip: Major Cross street is Euclid and Katella... do not zip through too fast on Katella.... it's a small sign in red and tucked in the back...

I had the great pleasure of dining here last weekend.  The food was fantastic.  I have been looking for an Armenian restaurant in Orange County for a long time.  I am half Armenian and grew up eating the food.  This was like eating at home.

The service is great. Zovi was very nice.  She is usually the only waitress but had help from her sister.  They were both very attentive.

Do not be thrown off by the decor.  The food and the people are great.

If I could rate it a million I would. The place became my favorite ever since the first time me and my boyfriend randomly stopped by to check it out. The food and the prices were shockingly good. The family that owns it always treats us like we are part of their family as well. The most warm and friendly waitress Zovi brings us something new to try without charging us extra. Bottom line - every time I go there I know that I'll spend little ($15 for huge and delicious appetizer plate and coffee and desert) and Ill make my tummy SUPER happy! Trust me - you wont regret it if you enjoy hearty and home cooked Mediterranean meal.
PS The pictures are awful, the place is way better in life

This is me and my girlfriends favorite place in Anaheim.  It's like a home cooked meal with our long lost extended Armenian family.  This place is family owned and operated and although they mostly cater, host private parties and provide food for a private Armenian school they are open for lunch and dinner to the public during the week.

The only waitress Zovi is part of the family who owns the place and is very warm.  She offers us new things to try, and is overall very attentive.

The Meza plate (appetizers combo) is really the best way to get a taste for everything. Only $6 for a small plate and $8 for a large. The small is easily shared for two people and the large can be shared for 3 to 4 people.

For the main course the best plate is the Trio Kebab, it comes with a Lula chicken, Kefta and Fillet Mignon.  The Kefta has a great minty aromatic flavor. The Fillet Mignon is always super tender and really tasty from the marinade.

Highly recommended since there is literally no other place in orange county like it.  It's as if you've been invited to eat in an authentic Armenian family's kitchen.

My friend and I ate here for lunch on a Wednesday. It was great! We were the only ones in there for like 2 hours; unfortunate, as the food was delicious. Prices are so reasonable and the food is awesome (the decor could use some help). The waitress and the owner were so friendly that when we left, we felt like we had to say goodbye :) If I remember right, they serve a mixture of Lebanese and Western Armenian. My friend just got back from a 2 year stay in Armenia, so she was talking with the owner about it.

The baba ganoush (they call it something else, but I can't remember what) was very tasty and my friend, a self-proclaimed falafel connoisseur, said they have some of the best she's ever had. I had the kebob combo. The chicken and the ground beef kebobs were excellent, but the filet mignon one was chewy to the point of being difficult to swallow; I wouldn't recommend it. We also receive complimentary dessert! Yum!

Bottom line: if I were in the area, I would come here again, but I probably wouldn't drive out of my way for it.

I am a big fan of food from the Mediterranean and the Middle East. I make it a point to go out of my way to try new restaurants.

Ararat is tucked away on Katella, hard to spot. The interior is quite nice, classy enough for a date. The waitress was very nice and attentive.

The food was very good. There was an assortment of kabobs, an Armenian Pizza, and various middle eastern/Mediterranean appetizers. I ordered a kabob plate and the metabbal and was stuffed to the gills. The prices were very fair. Three kabobs, one plate of metabbal, a salad, rice, and unlimited pita bread cost me only $12. Not bad!

My one complaint is that they did not have iced tea, forcing me to drink either water or a soft drink. But, that is a small nitpick. The food was great, the price way great, and the atmosphere was great.

I have recently been in an area previously unfamiliar to me - if I hadn't had occasion to spend several days near Disneyland I never would have found Ararat Family Restaurant!
It's very inconspicuously located at the back of a parking lot which faces Katella.
I went in for the advertised Tabaoulleh Salad, but decided on Chicken Kabob.  The service was prompt & friendly, the food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable.
I plan to make this a favorite stop - there were several other things on the Menu that sounded yummy!
