Hmmm.. how should I begin?.. Well the food was great! ^^ My friends and I had the ramen dukbokki and samgyupsal. The samgyupsal was to die for. If you're gonna go, order that. But the ramen dukbokki wasn't that much to my liking. I mean it was nice and spicy but something was a little off for me.
The service there was great, the waiters there were kind. Very polite people and respectful (there was an awkward bowing moment for me lol) .
I would definitely go eat the food there again whenever I get the chance to go back to New York.
GO EAT THERE, JUST SAYING! ^^

Decent food at best......Seafood pancake lacked that slight fresh crunch and didnt contain as much seafood as Kunjip's pancakes.

Spicy udon noodles with calamari was bearable, besides it being spicy enough for you to forget all your other taste buds exist, it lacked a wow factor.

The flavored soju cocktail was stronger than most other korean restaurants, which is a plus.

Would much rather eat at Kunjip!

The cheese dukboki does not hesitate to satisfy those after-clubbing munchies!! It was like eating a Korean kimchi lasagna, and every bite was better than the next. My mouth is just watering, thinking about it! It's SO GOOD. Also, it is huge and perfect for sharing with two other drunk girls. haha.

I don't remember much else about this place, but I would definitely come back next time!

I truly wanted to like this place bc of its convenience to kun jip, wanted to drop in whenever they were busy, but had a bad experience last night.  Dropped in after work, and ordered their known rice cake dish with pork and kimchee/cheese, even the waiter recommended as well.  It literally had about 5 rice cakes, and the rest were all veggies and barely any meat.  I don't understand the reasoning bc rice cakes are so inexpensive.  Also the subpar service, i guess i'm waiting in line @ kun jip.

The Ddukbokgi was a big portion and very tasty.

Other than that, slightly over-priced. The atmosphere loses to Pocha next door as well. Not sure if I will come back unless I crave Ddukbokgi.

Poor service, expensive food for it's normal quality. You could probably get same quality anywhere around Korea town cheaper. Although kimch pork rice cake is pretty good. I would nevertheless go again since they were very rude at the front desk.

I heard that this is a different kind of korean food?? My friend said he loves this place the most... I actually do agree.. He always order the bulgoki.. we wanna try something new and we ordered the pork and calamari bulgoki..

It's huge for 20 bucks.. obviously it can be serve for 2 parties... It's spicy and the pork is cooked with a little crispiness.. I like it..

I only have one dish to comment on it.. So not much to write... the environment is really romantic at night.. they switched off the lights and place a candle on every table..

The service was not that great but decent.. They never refill our water for us till we keep asking them for more... only 2 unlimited side dishes.. kimchi, bean sprout and, jalapeño cucumber?? that's it.. :(

but the entree is really good.. They have awesome dishes with cheese... I wanna try it next time!! :)

OK, in the nicest way possible... what the HECK happened to the food at Arang? I always knew service was shitty, but the food seems to now complement the service. I was suspicious when my friends and I discovered that they were participating in the deal sites. We purchased a deal in hopes of reuniting with our beloved Jaeyook Ddukbokki with cheese. We ordered that, pizza donkatsu, and a kimbap roll and ALL were terrible. I'm not sure if there's a new chef or what... but the jaeyook had maybe 5 pieces of meat and it was all veggies (and not the good kind either...). In addition, their few banchan offerings were major disappointments as well.

Disappointments all around. No point in ever returning. (FYI: They also got rid of their sushi menu.)

I don't know if I'm allowed to give this place 4 stars based on one dish, but I'm doing it. After a night of revelry, alcohol, and karaoke, hubby and I came into Arang with my bff and her fiance for a nightcap and a snack.

We ordered the KIMCHI JAEYOOK DDUKBOKI WITH CHEESE. This was amazing. A huge platter of sweet, spicy pork, kimchi, and korean rice cakes covered with a layer of melting cheese. droooool.

Get it. You won't be sorry.

Heard this place was great to come to for drinking, but I didn't come here for that. Arang is also famous for its rice cakes. I'm not a big fan of Korean food. Yes, I'm booed constantly by my Korean friends. Anyway, came here not expecting my taste buds not to be satisfied. When people say it's better to have no expectations because you will be pleasantly surprised. I was.

First of all, the servers are VERY Korean. I had to remind myself that I was in Ktown and that is just normal. The music was extremely loud. Dislike. I felt like I was in Eden without the creepy old men dancing up on girls. Anyway, besides the music, the menu had a decent variety. I came in wanting kimbap and kimbap I got. Just twice the price. It was good though. Bulgogi kimbap is now my favorite. Delicious but not worth $9. My friends wanted two different rice cakes -spicy and bulgogi I'm not a big fan of rice cakes, so I just ate around it. It was good though. I'm slowly warming up to it. Lastly, re ordered the punjun seafood. Expensive. Not the best I had, but good. Better than arirang, worse than ktown bar.

Food here is expensive. But it's a good place for food and drinks. I would probably come back cause my friends will drag me back.

I go back here for 2 things-- cheese ddukbbokki (cheese spicy ricecakes) and nakji udong (pan stir fried octopus with udong noodles- not in a broth..more stir fry style).  Great place to go for a drink and "drinking food".. normally there isnt a line and if there is, it goes by quickly.  Their menu is also funny to read (their korean to english translations are hilarious!!)

Great place to drink with friends!

Well, there are so many places I like in Koreatown, but this was a real treat. We were happy to be the only non-Asians in the place at the time, so we felt sure it met with the in-the-know seal of approval.
I had a dried fish and peanut dish that was very good. Service was great.
Atmosphere is dark and mellow, good for a casual date. Its upstairs, many of the good K-town restos are.

One of my two go-to spots for drunken nights in K-town back during my days at Columbia.  The food's not the cheapest and about average compared to neighboring places.  As Katie C. notes, the servers are pretty darn Korean and will take good care of you provided that you speak Korean.  But really, it just boils down to bottle (after bottle) of Chamisul with a piping hot jongol and you're set for the night!

Overfilled with karaoke-loving folk of K-town (eyes Amy S.)--good.
No need to refill elsewhere, booze served--good.
Taxis actually know how to get to this place--good.
I remember how to get here without GPS also--good.
Large and small parties are welcome--good.
Obviously they serve sushi at Korean restos, haven't tried but still--good.
Openly satisfying after a wild night/week of partying--good.
K-girls and servers make me want to learn Korean--good.
Gives extra dish of the potato salad because we ask--good.
    Orgasmically tasty Korean food--good.
On table is a pitcher of water--good.
Dduboki - cheese, pork, kimchi, veggies, and rice cake on a sizzling plate--good.

I've only been here at like 3am so my review maybe a bit skewed.

    Pros:
    - LOVE LOVE LOVE their cheese ddukbokgi. It's a perfect mix of spicy and cheesy and is surprisingly delicious, although I'm not sure how crazed I would be about this at 6pm.
    - Lots of seating so definitely pretty easy to get a table unlike some other ktown night spots.

    Cons:
    - I've heard negative reviews from friends who have come here for dinner -- limited side dishes, bad service, slow food.

I don't know how great this place is for dinner but definitely recommend it for late night post club food!

I come here for their ddukbokki and that's about it. Their gopchang is good too. I've had their soondubu jigae and it wasn't that great. Their sharing sizes are pretty big so make sure you're actually planning to share before ordering. Soondubu is regular one person size. Hip and trendy but too dark and expensive. Bill was over $100 for 3 people one Friday night. What the hell did we order?!?!

Get the cheese ddubokgi.  Get it with seafood & with ramen.  It's is THE BEST ddubokgi I have ever had.  It is spicy and savory.  So good!

Everytime that I have come here, it is easy to get a seat and it's always not too packed - which is a nice change compared to other places (aka Kunjip downstairs).

Overall, I don't really think I would come back here for the other things on the menu.  But, I do get an intense craving for their ddubokgi from time to time and have made treks out to ktown just to eat it.

overpriced korean bar with very unwelcoming staffs. the side dishes are to lanky for me. if i do end up here after a long nigh,t i always get their kimchi and pork ttukbokki with cheese. this, i must say i do have cravings for every so often. the very spicy and subtly sweet rice cakes that is served on a sizzling stone plate- make me happier  but drinks are bit too overpriced and their other food selection is really not worth all that money.

First off, go with your friends. Laugh at the menu on the happy hour side that says Chicken Asshole House + Soju. Question the server on this, and maybe you will understand their description.

I took my friends here the other night since they were craving K-Town. We had the Rice crepe rolls with seafood. The seafood was not that fresh. I am thinking it was a frozen mix. The clams had no clams inside their shell. It was a tasty dish though. Maybe too many rice rolls. Galbi was excellent. I suggest ordering one order for each person instead of sharing. Not enough to be full.

Peach juice was good, but too much ice in cup to have a nice glass throughout dinner.

A little pricey if you don't share. About $30 per person.

Even though I don't totally understand parts of this restaurant (Happy Hour item "Chicken Asshole House" or why all the waiters insist on looking like Edward Cullen), I think I've finally found my spot in Koreatown.

Located on the second floor of a building, Arang doesn't jump out amongst the other spots on 32nd but after trying what feels like nearly every restaurant on that row, I think Arang is great for both Korean food devotees and those who have an occasional craving.

The rice cake dishes are all phenomenal especially those made for the aspiring obese (covered in melted American and mozzarella cheese). The bulgogi and other standard dishes are all pretty good and priced reasonably for K-Town.

I had a wonderful meal at Arang but I suppose there are areas for improvement: Arang could have offered more side dishes while we waited, the kimchi didn't taste that fresh, and the waiters seem pretty indifferent to the fact that the restaurant had customers. Regardless, I'll still give Arang 4 stars based off the strength of the food.

Honestly, I was looking for Arirang - since I wanted shabu shabu, but since our group had already sat down and it was a cold day, we decided to stay even though we didn't see it on the menu. And I have no regrets. In fact, I will probably be going again.
We ordered jae-yook-ddeo-bbok-gi with cheese (oh my WORD it was glorious! the entire hotplate was slammed with shredded cheese and melted, it was like sweet & spicy italian food but with DDUK!!! the dduk was SOOO chewy, it TOTALLY made my day), chicken gizzards (YES), spicy tuna salad something gimbab (okay), bibimbap (okay), donkatsu (okay), and I know we had one more dish but I'm not sure what it was (obviously not super great since I don't remember what it is).
Although I have not had all the dishes there, my current opinion is that 'an-ju' food for soju is generally good, the rest okay. I was a little disappointed in the lack of side dishes at first, but in retrospect it is a bar that serves food so I suppose it's not surprising.
Food came out at a good speed, but the service was mediocre at best. The waiters had no idea what I was signing when I signaled that I wanted the check, like five times. I had to call them over in the end.
The most amusing thing was their music choice. Although it may just be a coincidence, it seemed to cater to the guests. When we got there it was mostly Korean music, but by the end of our meal, all the Koreans that had been there had left and it was just our table and the music had shifted to English language songs.

Usually love this place although the waiters were being SUPER STINGY the last time I went by not providing ANY banchan ROAR. Well, it is possible that it's because a group of 10 only ordered 3 dishes. Whatever man, that dubbokki dish is huge!

Got the kimchi + beef + cheese rice cake thingamobber.  I totally forgot what it's called, but it comes on a sizzling plate.

I thought it was quite delicious, loved the rice cakes - perfectly chewy and tender (can rice cakes be tender?)  Beef was minimal in existence.  Lots of kimchi and onions.  Extremely unhealthy - I'm pretty sure if I hadn't shared it, I would've died of a heart attack later that night.

The only thing I hated about it was the cheese.  I would've opted out of the cheese, but according to my friends, "that's what makes it good".  WAAAY too much cheese.  Barf

Please hire waiters/waitresses with less attitude please!  You just recently opened and oh boy your waiters have attitude as if you are as busy as Kunjip.  Our waiter argued with us about an extra order of pajun that he claimed we ordered and then again an extra tofu soup he again said we ordered.

Food is just standard Ktown are.  They do
offer larger dishes for sharing so if you have a large group, it maybe an economical option.

I came here with a group of friends on a Thursday night. Place was not as busy as I'd expected, so it was easy to get seats even for a moderate size group.  Place was darker than I expected and candlelit, so it was a bit hard to read the menu.  I ordered the Soondubu jjigae (spicy tofu seafood stew).  I ordered it a little mild, since I'm not great with super spicy food.  It ended up being really watery and plain. I had to add stuff into it, so I can at least taste something!

Also the little complimentary appetizers were so small!  The cheese dukbokki I tried of my friends' was just ok..I expected better! The waitstaff helped, but weren't the nicest.  The bill was all in Korean and none of us are Korean.  I asked for help to read it and waiter said it all so fast and rudely like I should know! Anyways, place was just ok...I've had better Korean food in Ktown!

They have a dish on their menu called Chicken Asshole.  LOL.  Like seriously, who is going to order this?!  The description says, Chicken Gizzard.  WHY WOULDN'T YOU PUT THAT AS THE HEADING?!  I was dying when I saw that.  If you don't come for the food, at least come for the laughs.  Like seriously, why would anyone want to order Asshole.  I ate went with a G.I. doctor, he joked about how his natural instincts would be to give his food a rectal exam.  Oh Lord, fobs are just one of a kind.

Anyway.  I had Ra-boki (Duk Boki with Ramen noodles).  It's pretty good.  Spicy level above moderate spiciness.  The sauce kind of tastes a little bbq-y?  I don't know.  It's kind of strange but... it works.  It's solid.  Especially if you're walking in here a little buzzed.  You're gonna enjoy it.

I haven't had the rest of the menu, but you know what.  I hear the Chicken Asshole is good.  Get it.

I love Arang for what it is. I don't expect spectacular service--though it's not always bad-- or an array of banchan. This is just not that type of place. This is a place you go to drink and eat some comfort food. My go-to dish is their ohjingoh ddeokbokki with cheese. I have dreams about this plate of goodness. I will make my husband drive us down from Westchester just to get this and it's always worth it!! I remember their galbi being good and their makkoli is yummy. If you're looking for an amazing dinner with tons of banchan go somewhere else and stop griping about not getting it here, there are plenty of those places around anyway. Nothing special here.

That is, unless you like fairly loud music, and mediocre food to go with your drinks.

Very solid Korean food. Good bulgogi and japchae.  Then there was a Kimchi pancake... which was amazing and strange at the same time. The overall selection of kimchi side dishes was less than I would have preferred, but the three were good.
Anyways, I really enjoyed this restaurant seeing the utter lack of good Korean food in Miami, but have definitely had better in Oakland.

Went here quite a while ago.  But as tonight I was watching a TV show demo'ing how to cut fish in order to make tasty sushi, it reminded me of this restaurant.  This was the worst sushi I have ever had.  I knew it wasn't a Japanese restaurant, but still didn't expect them offering such low quality sushi.  It is very rare for me to disapprove a restaurant completely but this gotta be one.  The fish on the sushi rice was so thin and so poorly cut that it couldn't even stay firmly on the rice.  It was falling apart, seriously, and one piece of the salmon even had a hole in the middle of the paper-thin slice of fish.  I was staring at it and just thinking "what the heck?!?"  The taste was very fishy, not fresh at all.  11 of us went and none of us was satisfied with it.

We also order the cheese rice cake (or maybe kimchi rice cake, forgot), which was one of their signature Korean dishes.  I'm not a big fan of cheese or kimchi, so can't comment much.  Some of my friends liked it though.

Best bu dae chigae I've found in ny.  It comes as a massive, $39 serving that feeds 3+ though.  But was much tastier than Kun Jip's budae chigao.  Compared to Kun Jip, this place is more dimly lit (so potentially more ambience), and a bit more expensive.

I've been here twice and now I'm wondering why I went back.  There are 3 banchans to choose from.  Three.  That is whack.  The food is just alright.  My mom's home cooking is a million times better.  The bulgogi was ehhh.  The mae-un tang was pretty....not good.   The broth just tasted like it was mixed with water and ddukbokkee sauce.  The prices - ridiculous for what you get.

Also the service was so slow.  Nice people but we had to ask for everything.  More water.  More rice.  Check please.  They didn't give us more banchan.  They never checked up on us.

    No no and no.

Arang used to be my go-to after-partying spot. Located in ktown, it is on the second floor of the building next to Kunjip. Used to be Blue many many years ago.

This place is no Caffe Village aka the best ddukboki place ever (which happens to be in LA) but it comes pretty DAMN close. If you are a fan of dduk (chewy rice cakes) and curry, you HAVE TO try the curry chicken ddukboki. All the ddukbokis are really good though so you can't really go wrong. Warning though, the one with cheese has ALOTTTT of cheese.

The kimchi fried rice is OK. I hear the chigaes (spicy broth/soups) are good too. The only downside is that prices are pretty steep for korean food. Very annoying... but I guess it's shame on me for coming back all the time.
