    LOVE.  LOVE.  LOVE!

I absolutely adore Kirsten at Arabella salon.  I have been her loyal customer for the past 4 years and followed her here from her last salon.  Not only is she talented and professional, she takes the time to truly listen to what her clients want and always delivers fantastic results.   Her hilarious and kind personality that makes salon appointments super fun is the icing on this stylish cake.

If Arabella salon was a cake, it would be red velvet with cream cheese frosting.

The salon itself is a beautiful and calming space and the staff are dedicated to environmentally friendly and sustainable practices.  So Portland, I love it!

Haircuts are $45!!  Unheard of for such a professional location.

Just when I didn't think Arabella could get any more awesome... Deanna bought the business is the new owner!!! This is really exciting because she has a ton of great ideas and fresh energy to infuse into their services. She's truly one of the most skilled, talented, and creative stylists in Portland - she can do everything from a simple and chic cut, to high fashion editorial work. So I can't even wait to see what she brings to the table now that she's running the show. Yay Arabella!!!

Kimberly is the GREATEST massage therapist in Portland. She does Thai massage and I will argue that you have never had a massage (with acupuncture or without) that rivals what this etherial power-house can do. Honestly - come back here and tell me if I'm wrong - this woman is not from earth - she's some sort of Angel.
She also does acupuncture and accepts auto-insurance if you have been in a car accident. You can make an appointment at 503-309-7267

FYI - Arabella looks ominous from the street but when you walk upstairs you are reminded how cool Portland is. It is the most magnificent studio with a rooftop garden, a hidden paradise on MLK.

I have my hair cut by Piper and she is wonderful, super friendly and fun! The best part of the haircut is the head massage with lavender oil. Oh so nice...

The space is a loft off MLK with big huge windows and high ceilings. Bright and airy.

I asked around quite a bit before making my first Portland haircut appointment.  Dosha and several others in SE were recommended, but I chose Libby at Arabella Salon for two reasons - the salon is really close to my apartment and Libby has an online appointment reservation system.  Priorities, yunno.

I'm so glad I chose Libby.

I've only been once but she was very patient with my dry, frizzy, self-dyed hair.  She suggested an inverted bob and the Davines moisturizing product line.  "Suggested" is the key word - I've had pushy stylists before, but Libby listened to my needs and talked me through my options.

The following week I took a photo with some friends and posted it to Facebook, and got a ridiculous number of complements on how good my hair looked.  That alone means I am now a big Libby fan.

The product line wasn't even that expensive for something from a small, environmentally conscious company.  It's definitely working some moisturizing magic and I've used less than a quarter of the bottle over the past month, so it's going to last me quite a while.  Good investment - consider it...

've been a long time customer of Libby's and I love her new spot in Portland! Arabella has a great soothing and classy yet non-pretentious atmosphere. There is a beautiful rooftop garden. The salon was easyto find with ample parking.

    Why do I love Libby?

    -I always love my hair.

-Shes really great at understanding what I want even if i have a hard time explaining it.

-She takes time to straighten and style my hair perfectly before I leave.

    -She gives amazing scalp massages.

-She has an extensive knowledge of the Davines product line (which btw is amazing!)

-She is very pleasant and easy to talk to.

I would recommend Libby to anybody. in fact I have and they all love her to and they love me for recommending her.

After taking a brief hiatus from Portland, I needed to rediscover a good salon to get my hair cut at. I used to go to Dosha which was good, but the turnover is so high you never get the same stylist and its pricey. My friends recommended Salon In Vogue since it was inexpensive, but half the time they complain about their haircuts. I'm so lazy that I only get my hair did once or twice a year (yea I'm terrible), so it better be good if I'm gonna sit there for two hours.

I went to Arabella based off of its Yelp reviews and I'm really happy I did. I had Piper who gave me gorgeous highlights and an awesome cut. She's great about advising what will and won't work with your hair and she was easy to talk to. I asked for some cards so I could refer her to my friends.

Oh and hand massages while you wait for your color to set? AWESOME. I would definitely recommend trying this place out.

When I first moved to Portland, I never thought I would find a hairstylist that fits the grade, until a friend introduced me to the amazing Sarah Bandy.

Sarah has been styling my hair for over two years, and in that time she has gained my valued trust and friendship. My hair cuts and color only get better and fit my needs as her creative ideas roll in sync with what I am looking for. Several of my friends I have recommended her to, are now new eager clients. I am sharing the hair secret my friend shared with me two years ago; if you are in search of a malleable and innovative hair stylist, do yourself a favor and consider Sarah Bandy at Arabella Salon.

I went to Arabella for the first time recently after reading the reviews on Yelp.  Like so many others, I have been searching for a stylist to finally 'settle down' with, and have been disappointed so many times over the years.  Needless to say, I was more than a bit nervous to try yet someone else new, but my first experience at Arabella was fantastic, and I will most definitely be returning!

Had a cut/color from Piper, and loved her, love the cut and the color!  She is a genuinely nice person who comes across as sincere and down-to-earth - so important!  Nothing pretentious about her or the salon.

It's obvious Piper knows what she's doing - not only did she really listen to my concerns and fears about what's been done to my hair in the past, but she gave her recommendation for what type of cut would work with my facial/bone structure.  I let her work her magic and I can honestly say I think I've found 'the one!'

Also, loved the complimentary hand massage while my color was setting - such a nice little bonus and way to make the salon stand out from the others.

Lastly, there was no pushing of products - REALLY appreciate that!!

    I will be back!  :)

I came in for a men's cut and came out a new man. Last cut I got at some barber was 'meh' but Piper hooked me up. I have that thin-as-thread straight hair that always seems to stick up funny on the sides when it's cut too short but I'm over the beatles doo I been rockin for 6 months so she cleaned me up and def got it right. Don't even have to scoop the putty product anymore to keep the sides down it looks perf straight out the shower. Anyways Piper was super friendly and even though I was the only dude in the place I felt perfectly comfy. Good stuff.

I just saw Piper today for the first time. She was absolutely wonderful. I'm one of those people who doesn't really know what to ask for in a haircut yet gets really particular when it doesn't work out right. Piper looked at what my hair does naturally, made suggestions that worked with but improved my previous cut, and taught me a few tricks to help me style it best.

My confidence in Piper was also encouraged when she was able to answer questions that other hairstylists were not able to explain to me and when she noticed that the previous stylist had cut my hair unevenly. It's comforting to know that she's both informed and attentive to detail.

I think my search for a Portland stylist is complete.

I got the best haircut that I've ever had here by Jena Strauss.  She does an excellent job cutting thick, curly and wavy hair like mine.  Superior.

Alex has been doing my hair for about a year now. I followed her from Pure Salon and Spa on NE Broadway and am so happy that I did! Arabella is super cute, totally Portland, and totally laid back. I can't wait to go back for my next cut and color in August.

Amanda has been cutting my hair for almost a decade now. She's the kindest, best haircutter in the world! She's also super busy now with movie stars and other globetrotters so I have been using the other stylists and they're wonderful, as well. Libby is new and fantastic! And the space is so inviting, light, warm and you gotta see the balcony garden. sweet!

I've been getting my hair colored here for 5 years but rarely go for the hair cut.  Yesterday I let Amanda have her way with my hair, a good six inches came off.... and WOW I really look great!  I am so excited to have a classy cut!
My guy who loves it long was very impressed as well.
When Amanda is off in Hollywood I let Piper fix me up.
    Thanks girls

There are rules when it comes to stylists. For instance, you don't ask your stylist out, no matter how cute she is. It's kind of like not, um, relieving yourself where you dine. Because if she says no, you're not only out of a date, you're out of a stylist, too. Then, good luck getting a date.
Anyway, that's a segue into saying that I really like the woman who cuts my hair, Jena Strauss at Arabella Salon. I actually stayed with her when she moved up to Portland from her old location, Corvallis' Studio 355. Now that I'm living (more or less) in the Portland area, she continues to give me great haircuts. And cutting men's hair is not as easy as it might seem, especially when you have fine, straight hair like me. Unfortunately, the bowlcut is not a good look, because that's the kind of hair I have. Think Apollo in the original "Battlestar Galactica," or Danny from "The Shining." Somehow, Jena turns it into a mutated version of the faux-hawk, a term and look I'm not crazy about. My do is more like what might happen if the Ocean Spray Cranberry logo were to make sweet love to Jason Bateman's "Arrested Development" cut. Arabella's as good a place as any to get that accomplished. High ceilings, sweet modern furniture, a varied selection of iPod soundtracks and the best magazine selection in town all contribute to a chilled-out vibe perfect for the style-forward woman, the metrosexual man and those like myself, who are in denial about self-applying labels. As a bonus, check out the ever-revolving art displays, which right now feature a range of freaky seasonal pieces, from four-eyed ponies to abstracted emo confessionals.

I had my hair cut by Kirsten and she is just fabulous.  She was friendly from the moment I met her and made me feel welcomed and comfortable as it was my first time there.  She first sat me down and asked me about my lifestyle and about my preference of hair style making.  I told her my concerns about my hair and what I wanted and she made some suggestions and we went from there.  The way she cut my hair seemed so easy and effortless and I wondered if I was going to get the same haircut that I came in with.  I was wrong.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE my haircut and since I don't live in Oregon, I am concerned that I won't find anyone to cut my hair like she does.  I live in Hawaii and its very humid so my hair tends to puff up, which was a concern of mine that I told Kirsten.  My hair does not puff up and it falls so nicely when I blow dry it out or let it air dry.  She also put some creme in my hair that smells delicious and works with my hair.  It doesn't weigh my hair down and gives it an instant bounce and shine.  I highly recommend Kirsten.  She had a great personality and was so bubbly and warm and cuts to perfection.  What more could you ask for!! Thanks Kirsten!!
