've been a long time customer of Libby's and I love her new spot in Portland! Arabella has a great soothing and classy yet non-pretentious atmosphere. There is a beautiful rooftop garden. The salon was easyto find with ample parking.
Why do I love Libby?
-I always love my hair.
-Shes really great at understanding what I want even if i have a hard time explaining it.
-She takes time to straighten and style my hair perfectly before I leave.
-She gives amazing scalp massages.
-She has an extensive knowledge of the Davines product line (which btw is amazing!)
-She is very pleasant and easy to talk to.
I would recommend Libby to anybody. in fact I have and they all love her to and they love me for recommending her.
Stephanie June at Arabella is an eyebrow goddess!!!!
I didn't know having a great eyebrow wax could make such a difference. I mean i've had my brows waxed before and all... but never like this. she takes so much time perfecting your brows and making them totally perfect for your face shape. she is passionate about makeup and has actually worked on a lot of cool stuff, twilight and leverage.
she give a great facial too!!
the salon is beautiful and her room is so relaxing. i can't wait to see her again soon!!
I asked around quite a bit before making my first Portland haircut appointment. Dosha and several others in SE were recommended, but I chose Libby at Arabella Salon for two reasons - the salon is really close to my apartment and Libby has an online appointment reservation system. Priorities, yunno.
I'm so glad I chose Libby.
I've only been once but she was very patient with my dry, frizzy, self-dyed hair. She suggested an inverted bob and the Davines moisturizing product line. "Suggested" is the key word - I've had pushy stylists before, but Libby listened to my needs and talked me through my options.
The following week I took a photo with some friends and posted it to Facebook, and got a ridiculous number of complements on how good my hair looked. That alone means I am now a big Libby fan.
The product line wasn't even that expensive for something from a small, environmentally conscious company. It's definitely working some moisturizing magic and I've used less than a quarter of the bottle over the past month, so it's going to last me quite a while. Good investment - consider it...
I have my hair cut by Piper and she is wonderful, super friendly and fun! The best part of the haircut is the head massage with lavender oil. Oh so nice...
The space is a loft off MLK with big huge windows and high ceilings. Bright and airy.
There are rules when it comes to stylists. For instance, you don't ask your stylist out, no matter how cute she is. It's kind of like not, um, relieving yourself where you dine. Because if she says no, you're not only out of a date, you're out of a stylist, too. Then, good luck getting a date.
Anyway, that's a segue into saying that I really like the woman who cuts my hair, Jena Strauss at Arabella Salon. I actually stayed with her when she moved up to Portland from her old location, Corvallis' Studio 355. Now that I'm living (more or less) in the Portland area, she continues to give me great haircuts. And cutting men's hair is not as easy as it might seem, especially when you have fine, straight hair like me. Unfortunately, the bowlcut is not a good look, because that's the kind of hair I have. Think Apollo in the original "Battlestar Galactica," or Danny from "The Shining." Somehow, Jena turns it into a mutated version of the faux-hawk, a term and look I'm not crazy about. My do is more like what might happen if the Ocean Spray Cranberry logo were to make sweet love to Jason Bateman's "Arrested Development" cut. Arabella's as good a place as any to get that accomplished. High ceilings, sweet modern furniture, a varied selection of iPod soundtracks and the best magazine selection in town all contribute to a chilled-out vibe perfect for the style-forward woman, the metrosexual man and those like myself, who are in denial about self-applying labels. As a bonus, check out the ever-revolving art displays, which right now feature a range of freaky seasonal pieces, from four-eyed ponies to abstracted emo confessionals.
Amanda has been cutting my hair for almost a decade now. She's the kindest, best haircutter in the world! She's also super busy now with movie stars and other globetrotters so I have been using the other stylists and they're wonderful, as well. Libby is new and fantastic! And the space is so inviting, light, warm and you gotta see the balcony garden. sweet!
I've been getting my hair colored here for 5 years but rarely go for the hair cut. Yesterday I let Amanda have her way with my hair, a good six inches came off.... and WOW I really look great! I am so excited to have a classy cut!
My guy who loves it long was very impressed as well.
When Amanda is off in Hollywood I let Piper fix me up.
Thanks girls
I got the best haircut that I've ever had here by Jena Strauss. She does an excellent job cutting thick, curly and wavy hair like mine. Superior.
