Review from Audrey C.
Decent fast food-ish CaliMex food. It's definitely healthier than real fast food and for non-Mexican, I think I like Aqui better than Chipotle. I had their California Crab Rollup, which was like a mini burrito with a crab cake and avocado. It was definitely tasty and filling. The Rollup alone was a good size, and it also came with a side salad or soup. I opted for the salad. I was content at the end of my meal and definitely felt "healthy" after.
There was also a good selection of salsas including a spicy one with roasted chipotle peppers. Mmm... -

I wanted to give this place a try because I've seen so many of their location around the bay area. Looking at their menus online made my mouth salivating. I came here on Friday night and it was packed. We ordered:
- Herb Grilled Turkey Breast = love the butternut squash soup that came with the meal but not so much the turkey and the corn bread croutons (too sweet!).
-Blackened Wild Mahi Mahi = mashed sweet potato was delicious. I was not fond of the ranch cole slaw.
Overall, I think I would come back here to try their tacos and other entrees during happy hour. Must get margaritas and swirls the next time I come here! -

The burritos here are so disappointing. It fell apart as I ate, there were barely any tomatoes... all I could taste was beef. My friend got a barbecue burrito and it was pretty disgusting. All she had was meat and their strange barbecue sauce that did not taste like barbecue at all.
We actually ordered those burritos because they came with chips and slaw. We were expecting salsa with the chips but instead they came with a flavorless cole slaw.
$8 wasted on a crappy tasting a burrito, bland tasting chips and flavorless slaw. Only plus side is that it's pretty filling, and I guess you feel "healthy" afterwards. How the heck does this place make Mexican food taste flavorless? -

I recently went to dinner at the Aqui on S. De Anza Blvd and ordered 2 Sangria 16oz drinks. I asked for one with little ice since I was having a tooth problem. The woman who was training another person had the trainee pour my drink into a smaller glass after she had put it into two 16 oz glasses.
When she gave us our drinks I asked why I was getting the smaller glass and she told me since she wasn't filling up the glass with ice that it was there policy to put the drink in a smaller glass. She then went on to say that the smaller glass contained the same amount as the larger glass.
I complained that how could a smaller glass contain just as much in volume as the larger glass and she just said it does.
I showed it to another employee and he said no the other glass was smaller and proceeded to give me my drink in the same size glass as the other one.
I later asked to talk to the manager to complain about how cheap is Aqui if they can't fill up two glasses alike if that is what you ordered? And she is teaching this to the new employee!! To my amazement the trainer comes over and tells me she is the manager!! Her name was Marie and that it was company policy to put the drink in a smaller glass if you request less ice in your drink.
What's wrong with you Aqui? Are you that cheap? In all my years of going out to eat I have never had anyone do this to my drink!!
I was going out to Aqui 1-2 times a week but I'll never go back to a place that has to treat a customer that way. I would like to know what science class you took where a larger glass has the same volume as a smaller one. -

This seems to be a very popular restaurant and with good reason. Service is fast, you order at the counter and they call you on a pager when your order is ready. We were there for lunch, so didn't try the Margaritas but I hear they are awesome. Maybe next time! I had the salmon salad and the salmon was cooked to perfection. Loved the fact that their food is natural and organic. My kids enjoyed their burritos and the atmosphere sitting on the outside deck was very relaxing. I hear that they make their own sauces and we enjoyed them on our dishes. Overall, a pleasant experience and I would definitely return!

Great relatively healthy fast food for the family at a decent price. Although I love the blended Margarita's in taste, I do avoid as they give me a hangover like no other.
Everything we've tried has been pretty good and fresh. I do however tried to avoid some of the meats which remind me of pressure cooker meats I can easily prepare at home. -

I've only been to Aqui a handful of times, but the food here is delightful! And I don't feel like a complete gluttonous hog afterwards. Score.
I don't recall the names of the dishes I've tried, but I guarantee they were delicious. Last time, my dish came with a sweet potato fritter that I went absolutely nuts over. Almost wish I could work there as a chef just so I could know how to duplicate the thing in my own kitchen.
They also have a little salsa bar where you can enjoy their wide variety of different salsas/sauces. The mango one has a nice kick!
Anyway, I feel like most people overlook Aqui since SmokeEaters is right next to it. I actually didn't even know what it was until my mom suggested going there for lunch. So if you were like me and had no clue, now you know! And you should go! -

Love the ambiance, its nice but casual. You order at the counter and grab a table anywherre. I ordered the Chicken flauta at the recommendation of the cute guy behind the counter. My mom ordered the Cuban pork enchiladas and my dad had the salmon. The chicken flautas were awesome, surprisingly not too heavy with sides of beans and a coleslaw and several sauces that made the dishes pretty and exceptionally tasty,
I loved my mom's enchiladas and the corn-rice it was paired with. But what set this place over the top is their salmon. I'm not always a big fan of cooked salmon and sometimes its too fishy for my liking. Their salmon was perfectly cooked - still tender and not too chewy and amazingly fresh. Their vegetables are so fresh and cooked well, its 5 stars all the way, you need to try it. -

Today we had a family brunch at Aqui, chosen by me because of the Yelp reviews of many of my Elite friends. There were a few surprises that should be mentioned for others if they've never been here before.
First, there is no table service - you order from the main register, are given one of those fun little flashing devices to tell you when your food is ready, and you pick up your trays of food at the kitchen. For those of you dining with folks that have a little trouble getting around (like we were today), this is not the place for you. Luckily, all those years of waiting tables to put myself through college came in handy today!
Second, this is not traditional Mexican food. If you are bringing a picky teenager and they order the quesadilla thinking it'll be something like they serve at Taco Bell or Celia's, it's not. Everything here is healthy and wholesome - wheat tortillas, black beans, lots of grains, etc.
I LOVED the food. I thought it was fresh and delicious. The rest of my group (who prefers the likes of Celia's) did not enjoy it at all. That being said, I'll leave them at home the next time and come alone. The people that work at Aqui were very nice and the presentation of the food was lovely.
I would recommend it for anyone looking for a healthy alternative to Mexican food.
TIP: They have amazing Margaritas!! -

I've been to various Aqui's in the bay area and this one is darn good; the bar area (my fave place to be) is pretty small but still decent. It has a couple flat screens, small bar, and tables. There is also regular dining and patio area throughout the restaurant.
I got two glasses of the Kunde (white wine) and they were filled to the brim and very affordable even though it wasn't happy hour. For dinner, i got the chicken enchilada which came with green beans and spanish rice. Delish, well-portioned, and great price (under $10).
Overal, come here for the casual atmosphere and good affordable cal-mex food!Listed in: Cup-Town

Man, its been a little over a month since I ate at Aqui and I'm still thinking about this place. Super casual, the absolute perfect lunch spot, out of this world food, I could go on and on. You order at the counter, grab some of the fresh salsas, and the food is ready as soon as you can sit down. I had the special of the day which was a falafal quesadilla, vindaloo sauce, spinach...unbelievable. I honestly can't wait to go back, this is exactly what folks on the east coast fantasize about west coast food.

Now, let me preface by saying I've been to their other location in Campbell and was not impressed by their food. I did, however, LOVE their Industrial Margaritas which I proceeded to RAVE about to my husband for months.
When we moved to Cupertino, he pointed out that there was an Aqui right down the street from where we lived. I always kinda avoided it because the only reason to visit, in my head, was for the drinks.
Well, all that changed last night. A friend of my was having a benefit/donation drive at this location, so I thought, hey, why not? Hubby can finally try their food and their margarita and I can move on with my life.
We showed up around 5:45ish. Wasn't super busy but was well on it's way to becoming a zoo. You order your food at the front and then they give you a buzzer to come pick up your food when it's ready. Kinda like Sonoma Chicken Coop. In fact, many restaurants seem to be moving in this direction.
I ordered the Organic Polenta-Sweet Potato Fritter. Not because I'm vegetarian, but because it sounded super tasty. Hubby got the Southwestern Taquitos. Mine was fabulous. The fritter was over baby spinach and brown rice with a nice herb aioli on top. Super freaking tasty! I mean, WOW good. I was so surprised I nearly passed out.
Of course the Margaritas were crazy good and crazy strong, so they will always have that, but I'm so glad I decided to give this second location a second try. And you should too!Listed in: Cupertino

This food is inoffensive. That's the best description I can muster.
The interior is like Red Lobster without the fake scrimshaw.
I would be thrilled to encounter this place on a cross-country trip ... but we're in the bay area. If you want something flavorful, though much more caloric, go across the street to Rio Adobe. -

This Aqui remains a delight since it opened. Don't expect traditional Mexican food here, plenty of other places for that. Their rotating week specials coupled with that day's specials compliment a well-rounded menu. I've rarely order the same dish twice in an effort to find something I don't like. (Haven't found that yet.) The soups are tasty and always satisfy. Their margaritas, excellent. The staff, friendly and efficient. A favorite indeed.

Tried out their lunch on the other day, it was pretty good. Hubby got some sort of pork roll up with salad which tastes really good. I had the daily beef special. The beef is soft and the taste is little spicy which I love. Will go back for more soon again.

It was my first time here and I had a great experience! We went right before the lunch hour and good thing too because it got really busy really fast.
Food: I ordered the Wild Mexican Shrimp. That was their special of the day. It was only about $11 and they had huge jumbo shrimps! The beans and salad on the side was also very tasty. And on top of that, there was also a tamale. Everything on one plate. I was soooo full! I don't usually eat that much during lunch but it was so yummy that I finished everything! It's not as spicy as I thought it'd be. Not spicy at all, actually. But that's ok. It still tastes good.
Service: Great! Very helpful, friendly staff. I had to ask for a high chair, but they brought it over for me. High chair was clean, which was great. And they were very friendly to my toddler.
Overall, awesome experience. I'll definitely be back to try the rest of their menu! -

Saratoga, CA
Solid 4 stars. The atmosphere seems very comfortable and laid back. The staff at the counter have a sense of a humor and are all smiles. They have quite a good selection on the menu, but not too much that you are overwhelmed and can't make a choice on your first visit.
My friend got the Grilled Chicken Fajitas: He said the meat was a bit salty, but probably because it complements the blandness of the rice and tortilla. He said it was very nicely cooked and the guac was spot on.
I got a Carnitas burrito. Their salsa bar is awesome and I got creative with the different types of flavors there. I had fun trying out different combinations; their Roasted Tomatoes are awesome, and the Mango Habanero was not as hot as expected so it was pleasant.
My friend got some shrimp thing. It looked really good but I didn't ask him what it was called cause I was busy eating my sizable burrito. His plate had a good 8-9 prawns with sauces and some veggies I think!
Overall, solidly priced, fresh and healthy ingredients, and you order at the front so you don't HAVE to tip which can save a buck or two :) -

I'm enjoying the fruits of good management skills at Aqui this morning. I'm eating some complimentary Carrot Cake to-go with coffee while catching up on email, and it occurred to me I've not Yelped my favorite new lunch haunt.
The food is great, but almost more importantly: Aqui is the real deal in restaurant management, consistency, and customer experience. I'm going to go ahead and give them 5 stars for their obvious knowledge of this axiom of mine. After more than 10-15 visits there since they opened earlier this year, I finally had a sub-par food experience with the Special, a squash enchilada, that had squash seeds and tough, green chunks of rind strewn throughout the filling. This gave me a chance to check off, in my mind, the proper response the restaurant should take in this case.
After setting aside the offending particles on the edge of the plate and finishing my otherwise delicious meal, I walked the plate up to show it to the always well-trained and friendly staff. The manager instantly caught on to what had happened, asked me if I wanted a new entree--even though I obviously scarfed this one completely-- (check), then when I said no, offered me a dessert on the house (check, again!) and I got a nice Carrot Cake to-go for my troubles. Of course, I'll be back for the delicious and very reasonably priced meals, the fantastically trained staff and the great food--and most importantly, when you are paying someone to cook for you, when you could easily do so yourself, WELL MANAGED.
When we were eating lunch, we were pondering why I'd not Yelped this place yet, and spent some time chuckling and reading my reviews with the highest, and some with the lowest reviews. Hell-Hole-On-Earth Chaat Paradise gets my all-time lowest. I have an Indian lunch mate who opined indian restaurants are usually not the place to go for good management and friendly service (eg: Chaat Paradise), but Cupertino Bakery, Dosa Place, Bombay Garden, and now, Bombay Oven in Cupertino are just fine. If you want a real great management dining experience with Indian food, try Amber in Santana Row.
So, back to Aqui; Vegetarians, take note: this place has a good 45-50% of their menu devoted to you, and sometimes has ingredients like Quinoa in their creations which means, they "get it". I pretty much eat 100% vegetarian dishes there. The Tofu Tostada is my go-to if there's not an interesting special that day.
Any place that can sell you a great plate of food for less than $10 and still proudly posts the name of the chef on the whiteboard is doing something right. -
Review from Jennifer C.
Newark, CA
This place is like a fancier, but slightly more expensive version of Chipotle.
It's a healthier choice if you're craving tex mex (not traditional Mexican coz nothing here seems to be fried or re-friend in lard).
I tried the Fajita Burrito - Grilled natural chicken breast, fajita sauce, onions, peppers, roasted corn rice, whole pinto beans and cheese rolled in a whole wheat tortilla. Served with Aqui slaw and chips for $7.79.
We also got the Aqui Sampler, which includes Avocado Dip, Hummus and Black Bean Dip with chips for $5.69. All the dips were really good.
I went with my vegetarian friend and there's tons of options for all your non-meat-eaters.
Lastly, I wanted to mention the drinks: I tried the Sangria Swirl, which is a blended house margarita swirled with Aqui Sangria for $6.75. It was quite tasty... kinda like an alcoholic slushy. I thought it was a Sangria, but upon first sip, I tasted the tequila right away. Got me pretty buzzed. haha.
Overall good-sized portions, tastes healthy, and reasonably priced! -

***BEST MARGARITAS AND ORGANIC MEXICAN FOOD***
Truly, I can't decide what my favorite thing is about this place. It's either the $7 Don Julio shots (WHAT??? Typically those are at LEAST $15!), the killer margarita swirls, or the food. It's not surprising for me to hit all three in a visit.
I always have a hard time ordering because everything is so delicious. The best is to come with a few people and order several plates to share so you get to taste a variety.
These are just a few of my favorite dishes: (keep in mind, everything is made in-house and they use local and organic ingredients)
Chicken Flautas: I think what brings this dish together for me is the housemade BBQ sauce that they put on the beans. YUM! I'm not a fan of smashed beans or BBQ sauce necessarily but it is just such a great combo and adds a smokiness to the flautas as well. They're not greasy at all which is surprising for a flauta.
Knife and fork salmon tacos: I'm actually a little disappointed.. these used to be served on a housemade blue corn pancake and they have switched it to a corn tortilla. Still amazingly delicious though. The salmon is always cooked perfectly and the whole black beans and cabbage slaw give the tacos a nice crunch and fresh flavor. I drizzle some of their habanero mango salsa over them for some extra spice and flavor.
California enchilada stack: SO many fresh veggies you hardly even know you're eating an enchilada. It typically comes with green beans and/or asparagus and a bunch of other yummy organic veggies.
Goat cheese quesadilla: A whole wheat tortilla stuffed full with monterey jack cheese, fresh goat cheese and sweet corn. YUM!!!! I like this with the chipotle crema and the serrano green salsa.
For breakfast: the blue corn pancakes are SO yummy!! Served with fresh strawberries and hand-whipped cream. The taquito plate- three taquitos served with eggs and black beans (ask for a side of the BBQ sauce I mentioned earlier! It goes amazingly well with this dish!!). Egg, potato and turkey sausage breakfast wrap. It's a mini breakfast burrito!! Perfect serving size for a small person like me. I like this with their chipotle crema. -
Review from Kit W.
This place is more of a 3.5, and I have to give them credit, their food is decent while being at least fairly healthy. I've eaten here 4 times, twice for dinner and twice for lunch. I think their salsas are in need of some salt, and a bit too sweet for my taste, and the burritos were ok but both times I've gotten one, they have suffered from Ingredient Crowding, where 1 side tasted like rice and all the meat was on the other side. Soups and sides are very good. I thought the entrees I've had tasted more healthy than good, which I'm definitely sometimes in the mood for... but most of the time, taste for the value wins for me.
It's definitely not standard burrito triangle fare and I have to say that if you are looking for something healthy that is probably more traditional mexican food than tacos and burritos, it's not bad... but for me, for lunch, I'd rather have a standard burrito.
The juices are really good, and worth the extra couple of bucks if you are thirsty. -

This place hits on many of the key factors that are important to me from a food experience standpoint. They use local, organic, fresh ingredients in all of their foods. They have a regular menu and a daily rotation of specials. The employees there consistently deliver great service and the managers are nothing short of fantastic. Now the food itself it amazing. They refer to themselves as Cali-Mex. It's a mix of bay area style food and mexican. They meld these two together well. I have never eaten anything here I did not absolutely enjoy. Highly recommended.

I'm back in love with this place. This is the place my girlfriend and I go when we're feeling a "healthier" craving, and food always seems to taste better with her here! The organic polenta/sweet potato fritter has been my choice of entree the last 2 times. Delish! The veggies that come along with this dish go with it perfectly. I ALWAYS get their guacamole which is a good sized heaping of guac with pico de gallo and bottomless tortilla chips (which we didn't know the first couple of times). I've had the thai chicken burrito and that was good as well. Prices are reasonable, food is fresh (although they must make most of it beforehand as the food comes out as soon as you set your utensils down) and service is great. My only thing with this place is the bus boys are constantly taking away your things, that you almost feel rushed to finish.

They say Mexican food is good in Cali....well they are right!
This place beats anything I've had in Massachusetts. My quesadilla (with goat cheese & corn, with guacamole at my request) was PHENOMENAL. It also didn't leave me with that greasy feeling most Mexican food does, it tasted semi-healthy and grease-free. The rest of my group loved their food as well.
Aqui...please open some locations in Boston, I would be so greatful! -

Aqui's.....I want to love you but unfortunately I can't!
I have to remind myself that this place is not supposed to be authentic Mexican food. The only thing that is authentic, "Mexican" in this place are the cooks. I am confused by the title, Cal-Mex because at one time California was Mexico and even the cooks here are embarrassed to have this place refer to their wonderful food heritage. Plain and simple, this place is for the pigmantly challenged who want to say they are eating ethnic food...lol
Okay, before I get nasty e-mails from the owner I will say this. The food that comes out is edible and okay tasting but it is what it is. NOTHING SPECIAL and a fake version of anything authentic. I give it 3-stars simply because of their Swirl drinks. BTW Aqui's, Sangria is not Mexican, it is Spanish.....Whole different country...lol
Why come here? Well if your work is buy here and you want a clean restaurant with friendly staffers then this is the place for you. better yet, just come for the Swirls. They are awesome! -
Review from Raquel R.
This place always seems to pull through for me. Unlike the one in Campbell you can always find seating. They have a cute little bar area and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
This place is more like date night and campbell is more like lets get drunk night. The level of loudness is moderate and there seems to be more families here.
GOOD food as usual.
Pork enchiladas and chicken taquitos. mmmmm -

Aquis is always good for lunch. I usually partake in either the lunch special for the day or my lunchtime staple the salmon burrito. One recent discovery is that they do not allow for pets on the patio, this is contrary to other Aqui's locations
The service here is always fast a courteous and the food has always been delicious. I would recommend getting an order of chips with the hummus dip and salsa for snacking on while you power down your food.
I've yet to make it to their margarita nights but Im told theyre very delicious as well.
I would've given 4stars if not for the pet policy -

I'm pretty sure people only come here for the swirl. Yes, the swirl is deadly. 1.5 is enough alcohol for me to be on the floor.
This time I decided to try some food.
The southwest taquitos are alright. Not fantastic or anything.
Their crab cake is pretty good, but it also doesn't wow me.
I'm not sure if it was my drunken mood that made the food taste so bland, but I didn't find this place amazing. Maybe i'll have to try something different next time and forget the swirl.
The swirl is terrible. I mean, amazing.. it's a love/hate thing. ha -

Okay, I have to be very specific here. I'm going to tell you exactly what to get, and if you get exactly what I say, then you will be very happy. You should make sure to be 21 to follow these instructions.
Here's how it goes:
1. Pay no attention to the time of day it is.
2. Walk up to the counter and order a Sangria Swirl and Aqui Sampler- it's chips and several yummy dips.
3. Eat and drink those things.
4. Go back and order the Crab Cake Salad and a glass of water (if you have someone to drive you around, you may order an additional Sangria Swirl).
5. Eat and drink those things.
6. Send me a thank you note.
Ha! See how easy it is!!!??? I've heard they have other really yummy things there, but I have no idea because I just follow my own steps every time. -

The four stars is for the drinks, the drinks are amazing, known for their famous swirlz, Swirls are good but strong! the food however is just okay. Better than fast food places but not as good as a sit down restaurant like i was expecting. This place is really like a better, more classy-er, and healthier version of Chipotle. You order first at the cashier and find your own table. but if you go for the delicious drinks you wont be disappointed.
