Very pleasantly surprised by this place. Did not have high expectations as it seemed like a Pan-Asian place and with Sushi being their core competency :) But, I was int he mood for Thai.
I went at about 1:30 PM yesterday (Wednesday) and was seated right away by the window. I ordered the Thai Curry with Chicken and a diet Pepsi. The soup and drink arrived right away followed by the entree. The Thai curry was excellent and it all came to $11!!
Highly recommend this place!
Where do I go in New York for some incredible kick-ass sushi? Where?
I ordered the eel avocado, and the crunchy spicy salmon rolls. I love eel to death so I really disappointed with the sad mushy tasteless eel avocado roll that I got. The crunchy spicy salmon was all right, but that's because the crunchy exterior gave the roll some texture.
Reasonable prices, excellent cuisine, exceptional service, and fantastic atmosphere.
The sushi was really noteworthy, but other dishes we had were also delicious. Service was flawless, I really enjoyed the place, it has a unique and trendy atmosphere that was also relaxed.
I definitely recommend the place, they handled our large party with ease and I really enjoyed the whole experience.
I went with 4 other people and we didn't have a problem getting a table. I wasn't that hungry, but ordered the La Sa Tom Soup, which is like Tom Yum soup, which was great. I ordered this guacmole and spicy tuna with wasabi chips appetizer which was awesome. They put a generous helping of guacamole in a half avocado shell and a large helping of spicy tuna with wasabi chips sticking out. The rolls looked great though.. my friends each ordered 2-3 rolls for themselves.. and I heard their drinks are strong too.
Definitely a nice space with great service. The food is better than average. However I get the feeling that at the heart of this establishment, lies fast food chinese restaurant mentality that's been able to break into the asian fusion market.
Ever since I moved into my new business hood I feel lost with all the places to pound my fork into. I find myself comparing every place with a similar cuisine in my old stomping grounds and coming out disappointed.
It has a relaxing vibe despite the whole trendiness of it all. A bit dark, but it gives me more privacy/ambiance. Can get crowded whether lunch or dinner. The dish prices aren't absurd for the way they "market" themselves.
Not the best, but it'll do. I opt healthy and order their chicken satay on rice lunch special. My eating companions recommend ordering the sushi over the other lunch combos.
I was there last night with 2 of my friends. We ordered a bottle of wine, a chicken wrap, ahi tuna salad, miso soup, trio tuna roll, buffalo roll and california roll to which the waiter replied, "That's it? You're going to share everything?" as though we had ordered one salad to share. The sushi was fresh and the food was decent but we were definitely annoyed with the waiter and felt like he was hinting to us to leave. We ordered a bottle of sake and our waiter came around every couple of minutes to wipe the bottom of the sake bottle and put it back into the cooler which we felt was totally unnecessary and just plain annoying. The thing that did it for me was when we paid, the waiter opened the black thing the receipt comes in to check how much tip we left right in front of us.
Ahhh Aquamarine, how I love thee. How well you have served me as my local restaurant the past couple of years. How I'll miss you when my lease is up in 6 weeks time and I leave for pastures - as yet undecided - new.
No of course it's not authentic Japanese or authentic Thai, but it is a bloody good authentic Midtown fusion joint with spot-on decor and atmosphere, a Polish ex-boxer barman named Tommy who will kick your ass into next week if you don't like his cocktails (you will) and some excellent dishes.
Forget Sushi Samba, order the Sashimi Salsa, extra spicy.
Ah, I was only going to give it 4, but it's given me so much pleasure over the past two years it's going up to 5!
It'll do.
I've never had the Thai options on the menu, but the sushi's good (tropical roll was yum if you like eel). It's the kind of place where everyone cleans their plates and leaves satisfied, but no one makes comments about how great the food is. The decor reminds me of a midwestern restaurant trying to look trendy and metropolitan...forced.
I've never seen this place completely packed, so I bet it'd be a safe bet for any night.
It'll do.
Delish! After watching a movie at the theatre nearby we decided to have sushi. We are huge sashimi fans. We ordered the king salmon carpaccio, tuna toro tataki tartare and the spicey yellow tail roll. We loved this place!
We walked in here out of curiosity since we assumed our Thursday night was going to end in a total bust, lol. (Long story....)
My cousin and I thought the place looked attractive enough and the menu prices didn't make us run away. So we decided to stay. It was extremely packed but we were seated right away (a plus). I wasn't into the decor that much and wouldn't want to waste my words writing about the physical aspects, :). As long as its clean and I don't see any cockroaches, I was good., :)
We were starving yet weren't in a experimental mood, so we kept it safe. I ordered an appetizer; crispy crab dumplings (four duplings per order), and a Chilean sea bass for my entree. My cousin ordered an assortment of salmon and california rolls.
I wasn't feeling the black bean sauce that came with the fish; I found it too salty but the sea bass was delicious! And if you care about your diet like I do, it was steamed, not fried (a plus, plus, plus) My cousin enjoyed her rolls and fell in love with my crab dumplings; she stole two of them. We were tempted to order more but decided to order dessert. I don't remember the exact name of the dessert but it was within the chocolate mousse cake family. The cake looked like a half circle with whipped, silky chocolate syrup inside. My cousin and I tore the poor dessert up! lol
Well, you know the night ended crazy!
After we finished paying the bill, some young dude who was completely drunk ran up into the place yelling something "you're f****ing my wife!" to this other guy by the bar! All the waiters ran to the front, trying to pin the drunk dude down because he was really flipping out.
We had front row seating to this live, fatal attraction type drama. I mean, it wasn''t funny and one of the owners looked embarrassed as hell (who wouldn't?) I really felt bad for the mistress (I don't know the name for the "other" man), he looked scared, drunk, emotional and definitely humiliated. After they calm the husband, they got him out the restauarant. The mistress went back to sipping his drink, like nothing happened...
Everyone went back to their eating and regular convos. I was giddy, probably because that was the only exciting event that happened during the day for me.....
But I would definitely go back, :) (wink)
A good and affordable midtown east lunch option.
They call themselves Asian Fusion, and basically do Japanese and Thai. Their lunch specials involve bento box-like platters (with either pad thai, sashimi, sushi rolls teriyaki or a thai pork chop) which comes with soup, salad, gyoza, a sesame salad and a coconut custard for $11. You can also get lunch special sized sushi deals for $8.99. That's a pretty good deal for the neighborhood.
It's also pretty good for groups -- we came with a group of 12 and they could accomodate us at lunch time without issue.
I wasn't blown away by the quality of the sushi, but it was fine and it's a good option for a midtown lunch. And we all know there aren't many.
What a surprise! I thought I knew this neighborhood. This place is really good. The maitre d' had a table waiting for us, and easily accommodated our growing group. He was right on the spot with his recommendations too. He's a bright spot in a profession usually filled with annoying snobs. Ten points for him!
The fried calamari was the only bland spot among the otherwise delicious food. The Gado Gado salad was the best new dish I've tasted this year. The waiter was attentive, and the staff did NOT pull away the dishes before we were finished.
Ai thought her cocktail tasted like cough drops. The rest of us enjoyed Japanese beer. It's a great place. With great personnel. We'll be back. Be forewarned though. The kitchen closes early (11:25 PM) during the week, so you might want to make this the first stop in a weeknight of debauchery.

Not sure why this place hasnt gotten higher stars. This is our sushi go-to place on the east side (right across the road is Tony's which is also really good).
Their Green Salad with Ginger dressing is best ive had from a sushi restaurant. I LOVE my ginger dressing.
Our two favorite rolls here are the Tuna Trio roll and the Buffalo roll (except i hold the spice on the buffalo roll). Both are always fresh and crunchy.
A great mid priced sushi restaurant.
I don't know if it's because the reviews here are generally unfavorable, but I actually thought this place was decent. Sure, the decor is kind of gaudy, but that doesn't really matter if you're getting take out.
While it's not a place that looks like it'd cater to the lunch crowd, they have a lot of lunch specials, which was nice. $10.95 gets you three sushi rolls, a salad and miso soup. The salad was average, the miso the same, though the portion was pretty large. And the sushi was pretty good. The quality was about what you'd expect, but the amount of fish per roll was generous. The rice tasted tender, and the rolls were well-made.
I probably won't be eating here a lot, due to it not being that close to my office, but if it's near yours and you're looking for a sushi place to order out from once a week (or however often you get your sushi craving) try it on for size.
This is a very trendy sushi place in Murray Hill. I love to come here and just get mix & match sushi pieces... you can try a lot more that way. Definitely get the spicy snow crab... worth every cent. If you like sushi you really can't go wrong with this place. Also, I love their Shrimp & Steak Basket - it has shrimp & chunks of tender beef steak sauteed w. mushrooms, sweet peas, pepper, and asparagus with cashew nuts & satay sauce. YUM! it's an explosion of flavor that you can't get enough of.)
Also, whether you come with a group or go for a date, it has a great ambiance. Can't go wrong, esp. if you're in the area.
I was served the Octopus salad, w/o the octopus. The only word in the menu is Octopus as the descriptor for this salad, so how you manage to bring out this dish w/o the octopus is beyond me.
I was a little bit nervous ordering takeout from Aquamarine, after seeing all of these fairly negative Yelp reviews, but ended up pleasantly surprised.
Their crab rangoon was light and delicious. They also give you the perfect amount - five wontons. More places need to serve this, especially with the lighter filling and lighter batter Aquamarine has prepared. I was pretty pleased with my sashimi, too. All of it was fresh and sliced thick. No skimping in sight.
I ended up stopping in after viewing an apartment in the area, and thought the decor was pretty cute too. Not too overdone, but obviously aimed at being a little more trendy than your average neighborhood sushi place, which is quickly becoming a dime a dozen in this fine city of ours. Aquamarine isn't a bad choice...really.
Fairly decent asian and asian fusion food (portions could be a little bigger).
Service is not bad.
Attractive place is frequented by diners who are absolutely in love with themselves.
Worth a try.
This place suffers from serious "white tablecloth syndrome" Medorcre asian food and sushi gets dressed up with some nice tableclothes, and all of a suddden they can charge you extra.
That said, the food is servicable, so if you are in the area, why not?
Great decor, very good sushi, accommodating to large groups! I had my sister's birthday party here this past summer and it was a big success. It's also a fun place to go for a drink.
So, I arrived before my friend and put my name down at with the hostess. I was surprised at how rude she was, but I brushed it off thinking that maybe she was PMSing or something like that. So I went to the bar with all intentions of ordering a drink. About 20 minutes went by and they still had not taken my order (in the mean time my friend had come and joined me). Finally we received our drinks and were eventually sat at our table. It took our waiter 30 MINUTES to approach us and to even ask how we were. OK, I understand if it is a busy night that service won't be great, but c'mon! At least greet us!
Once we were greeted the service was cold and unfriendly. He rarely came to the table and never once asked if there was anything that we needed (we had to ask for SOY SAUCE). After we were done eating we had to ask at least 3 times for the bill. The sushi was so-so, mine fell apart in my chopsticks and my friend's was so covered in wasabi you couldn't really taste it whatsoever. We left a not so great tip due to the poor service and I definitely won't be coming back here again. Total waste of money except for the drinks which were strong and good.
Walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night - was seated right away although the place was almost full. I had some of the Thai style options and liked them all. Will try it again if I am in the area and looking for a quick bite....
meh. i avoided going here for about six months because it just looked like another trendy fusion place. one night my parents decided to take my husband and i out and made reservations here. we ended up waiting for over an hour (should've just walked out)-- the manager apologized but then the service was awful. the place was packed and they definitely didn't have enough people working to cover all the tables. the food was so-so. basically just americanized japanese food (ie mayo on sushi rolls, not particularly fresh), and it all came out cold.
wouldn't recommend it, don't plan on going back.
stopped in with a friend of mine after happy hour....
sat at the bar for a nosh.
trendy vibe.
too be expected food.
not amazing - but standard.
nothing compelling calling me back for a visit.
When I think of Murray hill, I think of my dentist. So I guess an average fusion place will do well in the area. The sushi is average its fresh but it wasn't all that great. There seems to be a lot going on with there menu. I guess that could be a good thing because that means they have a lot of cooked food or for me, it just makes me want to stick with sushi and keep it simple. Aqua Marine would be a good place to go to if your feeling for sushi but your friends are not. It's got a nice atmosphere but with out trying any of there cooked food I have to consider it more of bridge and tunnel type of spot.
Great place- good sushi and really good grilled seafood platter. Fun atmosphere for a friday night out with girlfriends or date. Not cheap though.
Nice, quality food. Love to go here with co-workers for a quick bite during the day and can also seat big parties. Lunch specials are yummy. Sit-in or delivery. Serivce is to be desired depending on the waiter you are asigned. Highly recommend the Bento lunch box with vegetable pad thai, vegetable spring rolls and brown rice. Also the miso basil eggplant dish is really nice.
Mmmmmmmm, Aquamarine was great! Met some old friends here for dinner and it was the perfect spot. Definitely a trendy ambiance, but not too pricey - I'd say the rolls were about $9 on average. I especially loved how they let you order all of your rolls with brown rice, instead of white. I got the "valentine" roll - with lobster, etc.. in the inside, and strawberries and wasabi on top - sounds random, but was incredibly good. Had a few other standard rolls as well. Also, I'd like to note that the house salad was exceptional - had dried fruit and pine nuts on top - totes delich.
Just your typical new-age asian restaurant, with an above average bar. Clientele seems to come mostly from New Jersey, which is a bit of a turn off, but it seems to be packed mostly with businessmen cooling down. Drinks arrive proper, though the bartender was a bit of a snob, and couldn't stop talking about his BMW.
I end up here most times I want sushi as it is moderately priced, I've never needed to make a reservation, and it's good quality food. Their cocktail menu is also extensive, with consistently excellent dirty martinis. Never been disappointed by service or food - great modern ambiance and nice for people watching in the summer when the front floor-to-ceiling windows are open. Great place to go on a date or with a small group of friends.
IT's nice to have a trendy restaurant with good food and beautiful decor breathe some life into the Murray Hill restaurant landscape. The food is really good. It's a small mix of asian fusion but, predominantly asian menu. The sushi is really good. The Coppalla wine was really good. The restaurant is REALLY beautiful. IT's done in a modern, lush sort of style with plush seating and low lighting. The sushi bar is open so you know it has to be clean and fresh. Overall, a jewel in my neighborhood!
Food is just so-so / bland. Plus, like a lot of restaurants that serve Japanese food these days, but which are owned by non-Japanese people, they take classics and adulterate them in an effort to do fusion, or because they are influenced by their non-Japanese roots. Ex: mayo in every roll you order! Some things are left to be unchanged (don't you think?) - it would be like ordering a pizza and someone putting duck sauce on it because the pizzeria is owned by a chinese person. Anyway, I do appreciate the fact that it is well maintained, and pleasant to sit in. And though the food could use some help (which is overpriced too by the way), I think this joint will have a very positive affect on the neighborhood - it will up the game of nearby retailers and restaurants, which is great if you live close by like I do.
Ughhh... had a pretty bad experience here. Maybe I was there on an off night, or maybe I just ordered the wrong thing... but from the moment we sat down, the waitress got EVERYTHING wrong. We ordered appetizers and I ordered the fish in Sambal Sauce. The waitress told me the fish would be steamed and asked if that was ok. I told her that was fine. About 5 minutes after ordering, my "Fish in Sambal Sauce" arrives... the appetizers NEVER came. How they conjured up my dish so fast, I'll never know, but it was pretty awful. The fish had a thick batter on it (ummm... what happened to steamed fish?) and the sauce was bright red and smelled strongly like ketchup (ughh...). Also, there was no spice to the dish whatsoever. I swear it was Sweet & Sour - not a favorite of mine at all. I asked the waitress whether this was the right dish and she said yes. Suffice to say that I won't be back there.
