this hotel is good if you're on a budget and you don't care if it's not super upscale and really hotel-ish.

guest services was helpful and nice. the location is in good walking distances of most things. apparently, Kuhio is a party street once night strikes the island. A lot of people and police enforcements on that street. sometimes, i didn't feel so safe walking around at night. but luckily, the hotel locks the doors after 10pm and to enter into the lobby, you have to scan your cardkey.

the room wasn't super fantastic. it just had all the simple things a person needs (NOTE: i stayed in the renovated king bed room), a bed, bathroom, table, coffee maker and fridge and a 19 inch flat screen tv. also the a/c had a remote to control the temperature. the only thing i didn't find appealing was how, we were neighbored to people actually living there. it was.. odd. but they didn't get in our way so it was whatever.  the atmosphere for the room could have been better, because it felt too empty and less hotel like.

i think, i would only come back to this place if i was on a serious budget, but if i ever do return to hawaii, i'll probably try something different that's somewhat more luxurious to make my stay more enjoyable.

It has great rooms and free internet service.  The room service never replenish the soap and shampoo.  The front desk told us on our first night that their parking lot was full.  Where are we suppose to park our rental car?  Park along the canal, it is free.  No warning that the canal parking is notorious for being towed away.  Monday morning and all the cars are gone including our rental car.  $250 gone for tow fee, parking ticket, and taxi ride to the tow place.  Hotel front desk was like, ooops we forgot to tell you not to park there overnight.  What an a-hole.

Other than that, the room is alright.

My friends stayed here with the bride's family during the week before their wedding.  Don't be fooled by the ghetto-ness of the outside - they are under renovation.  The rooms are very nice.  My friends were in a two bedroom with a kitchen and big living area.  There is also a huge balcony.  The rooms are quite spacious and the staff is friendly.  We had a lot of wedding materials to put together and the living room served its purpose.

This Aqua is conveniently located across the street from the International Market and also walking distance from all the shops in downtown Waikiki.

Great location.  No frills, which is great.  All I really wanted was a clean, quiet, and spacious room; which is exactly what I got.  Room was cleaned everyday, while I was gone, if I needed an iron and ironing board, they brought me one.  All in all, it was great.  I didn't rent a car, I just booked a roundtrip shuttle for $21.00 and walked around or took a cab.  I mostly stayed local.

Pretty nice location if you want everything near you. Not so great if you're expecting a wonderful 5 star hotel. People pay the price here for the convenience.

Stayed here for 6 days-6 nights with my family of 4, including 2 kids.  After reading the not so fantastic reviews, I was expecting the bare minimum from this place, but I was proven wrong!  The rooms are very spacious & clean, enough for the kids to run wild at night.  The beds were made daily & clean towels were always waiting when we returned from exploring the island.  I'm assuming we got one of the newly upgraded rooms!  Staff was very helpful & friendly & each time we called down for something, we received it within 20 mins or so.
My only gripe would be parking.  The lot is so small, its 1st come 1st serve, and every night we had to park next door.  No worries since its the same price I would've paid anyway.
Its an older hotel, so elevators are slow & on the ride to the 8th floor, its gets pretty hot up in it.  We carted our own bags to & from our room, but for the price & location (hello, its literally 20 steps from international market place!) you really cant beat Aqua Pearl.

Island Colony has $18/day parking for hotel guests, with in-and-out privileges.

Not just Island Colony guests.  Our condo has a deal with them; we show them our room key and we get the guest rate.

My home away from home...literally.

When I'm not here, I'm there.  And when I'm there, I'm freakin' ESCTATIC.

How can you not love Hawaii?  Unless you have to pay exorbitant amounts of cash for your hotel room.  I was lucky enough to stay here every year, sometimes twice a year, for my entire life starting at age 10.  My parents bought into the Island Colony when it first became available.

Being the beggar I am, I am allowed to squat here for as long as my  job will allow.  Hubby included.

Sure it's not the coolest place on the Islands.  And it's definitely not the Halekulani by any means.

But it's reasonably priced, and in a decent location, now that they've cleaned up the streets of Waikiki a bit and asked the ladies of the night to scram.

Ah, the good ol' days of Hawaii past...when hookers spoke Japanese and roamed the countryside in their six inch heels.

What, you thought I was wax nostalgic about Don Ho?  Naahhh...

FYI:  The hotel is under renovation, but still open for business.

A group of friends and I (there were 12 of us) stayed at this hotel for a week in August of last year. Once we got here, the lady at the front desk was VERY nice. We asked her a lot of questions about the island and where the hot spots were for people of our age. She helped us out a lot and it seemed like she cared a lot about our safety since we were just a bunch of 18 year olds not knowing how to travel. We also got to know the guy at the tourist information booth thing. He even called us on his free time (not at work) to hook us up with some tickets to the Common concert that was going on while we were in town. I loved the staff, they were VERY hospitable.

My friends and I were separated into three rooms. When I got to my room, I felt a really weird, negative vibe and so did my roommates..so we asked to switch. They were more than happy to give us a new room. When we got to our new room, we found cockaroaches on the counter by the sink and I was totally grossed  out. Good thing we had a boy in our room, so I made him kill all the ones we saw. I didn't wanna stay in that room, but then again, I didn't wanna ask to switch for a third time. So I settled. I mean, it really wasn't that bad. Everytime we saw a bug, we just smashed it..hah.

But on one of our nights, all 12 of us set up to meet up in one of the rooms. We got out of the elevator, walked down the hallway, and OMG, WTF IS THAT!? It was a huge asss cockaroach on its back! AHHHHH, soooo disgusting! At first, I thought it was one of those fake plastic cockaroaches that people use to scare you. But no. this sh*t was panicing, moving its legs, trying to get back upright! It had to be 2 inches long. I've never seen a cockaroach that big in my life.

Other than the bugs, our stay in the hotel was great for what we paid. We had a working air conditioner, showers and toilets were fine, we had a full sized refrigerator, microwave, sink, dishes, etc. My friend's room had a stove and pots to cook. There was also a little mini mart right next to the hotel that was open late every night. Oh, and it's only 2 blocks away from the strip.

Overall, I'd come back to this hotel if I were on a budget.

Before writing this review I had to make sure it was the right hotel and look at the pictures. This hotel was bought out by Aqua hotels so it's called Aqua Island Colony. We got a week here free from our timeshare since our actual timeshare (Ilikai) was sold out. I loved the Ilikai so I was expecting the same or equal.
No it was not.
I am not bad mouthing this hotel entirely because hey, it was free.
Parking is $18 for non guest and $14 for guest. You pay the attendant up front with a voucher which you get at check in.  Parking elevator is different than hotel room elevator. We were on the 43rd floor so we had to wait forever to go up and it took forever to go down.
Our room was nice but small. The bathroom was smaller.  The room had a full sized fridge, microwave, coffee pot, sink, dishes,  utensils.  Our view of the city was nice too. The air conditioner was a rickety thing on the floor which was dripping water. We needed a crib but it was $25 a day rental. No thank you our baby will sleep with us!

No pool towels either. You have to go to Houskeeping which is located on P5 (by taking the parking garage elevator!) to get towels.  Coffee packet was free first day, then you pay $1 and fetch it yourself from Housekeeping on P5.  Oh, Pool is under construction! Plus no shallow area for a toddler to swim. BOO!  No biggie cause we didn't come to Hawaii to be in a pool.
Location is good. Yes you are in the middle of Waikiki but it's too congested for me.  I prefer to be in the outskirts. We didn't go walking around till the last day in Hawaii.
Oh, you are not guaranteed parking either because in that one little garage is the reserved parkers (people who own condos there), hotel guests, and hotel employees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We found that out on our last night there when we had a very cranky toddler in the back seat and we were circling and circling and there was nothing. Zero.  It had been at least an hour before I told my husband he'll have to do the circling and I go upstairs with our daughter. Finally, the parking attendant came out to help us and blocked a parking space for us. She was really helpful and we were really frazzled and grateful.

To be fair this hotel was the least expensive option we could find - but wow it was really pretty tough.  Not a good value considering for a few dollars more you could get a 2 star hotel which we ended up doing.  Note: our experience here was in 2004.
