5 reviews for Aqua Equus
I have to say I was nervous about my stay at The Equus. I had read so many mixed reviews that it was about a 50/50 chance it was either pretty nice or craptacular and considering that I was on a budget and booked this place for not only my husband and myself, and my parents for my wedding I was sweating it.
Upon check in we were upgraded to an awesome room on the 9th floor. I couldn't stop giggling over how comfortable the down pillows and comforter was. Continental breakfast in the morning ... fresh fruit, juice, coffee, muffins, etc.
We were even given a good tip about the pool ... just go over to the other Aqua hotel (just past the parking lot) and use the pool (which wasn't too cold at all, very nice!) and the jacuzzi.
The staff were an absolute pleasure. Very friendly!
My parents' room were great too. They would tell us every morning how comfortable they were and didn't wake up once.
I will absolutely recommend this hotel/hotel chain to friends and family ...
I was very satisfied with my stay at the Equus. I got a super awesome deal on Travelocity and came expecting a really budget hotel. Luckily this hotel worked out great for me. It was so close to the convention center, the mall and Ala Moana park which was awesome to jog around. The king sized bed was comfortable and the flat screen tv was nice.
The bathroom size was a little annoying for me being a girl that likes to spread out. Way too small to blow dry your hair without melting but luckily there were mirrors and outlets convenient for drying your hair in the main room. Also the shower is teeny tiny and trying to shave my legs in there was comical. A tub would have been really nice to have, but again I can't complain considering what I paid. The room is probably best for no more than 1-2 people. (Probably not big enough for 2 girls considering the bathroom situation).
The staff was really friendly. The pool was kinda unusable except for maybe a quick dip as it was always in the shade and pretty small. I noticed they kept a loud jet on in the pool at all times that I could hear from inside my room. I think they used it to cover some of the street noise which was considerable. There was all sorts of construction going on and buses and delivery trucks going by. I just shut my sliding doors at night.
The only other thing that the room was dark as you couldn't keep the sliding shutters open without everyone in the apartments directly across the way being able to see in. Oh well.
At first I was a little bummed that my room had a mini fridge but no microwave but then I found a communal microwave for the guests to use. This actually worked out way better because I didn't stink up my room heating up fish leftovers! The fresh fruit and juice in the small lobby in the morning was nice as well.
I slept well here and was able to slip back here for a cat nap in between workshops at the convention center. Stay here instead of a hostel!
Honolulu hotel prices will scare the living daylights out of the sun itself. Aqua Equus was a god-send for providing the best value hotel in Waikiki. The spacious room I got for just north of three digits had two king beds, a TV, and a crappy internet connection. The room was well-decorated and staff was friendly and helpful.
I also liked the place for its location, which is on the border of Waikiki and Ala Moana Mall. Many would like to stay close to Waikiki Beach as possible. I like to stay close to the enormous Ala Moana mall because if you don't have a car, being close to Ala Moana Mall means you are next to a major bus depot. That means you're close to 90% of the stuff you'd likely see in O'ahu like Pearl Harbor, Downtown, and Punchbowl. The mall is also a garden of cheap food. Aqua is just 10-15 minutes walk away to Waikiki anyway. One whole star is dedicated to the Wailana Coffee House just down the street. An amazing place to grab breakfast or brunch.
Clean, efficient, decent room for the price. It's not huge but it was fine for me. Staff is nice. Convenient location near Ala Moana Mall, beach, and rest of Waikiki. Parking is $18/day. Has a little Southeast Asian flavor: bamboo furniture etc...seems like rooms were remodeled recently and they were remodeling the lobby when we were there. Bed was soft. Sheets ok but if you're really sensitive maybe bring your own. Bring own cable to connect your computer to internet. There was a computer in the room that's supposed to hook up to the tv but it didn't work. There's no central air but there's a nice wall unit. No tub only shower stall.
If you have absolutely no money at all. I mean none but the 60/80 dollars you have to pay per night. Then, and only then would I recommend that you stay here. Though, I'd first try to convince you to stay at a hostel. The room is tiny, the ac stinks. The elevator doesn't come down to the ground level so if you have lots of luggage, you'll have to walk it up the stairs to the ONE elevator on the lobby level. Don't expect the bell service to help you out. I don't think they've heard of one.
