When I moved to Aptos in 2000 I was amazed to find a "rare gem" in Aptos, The Aptos Coffee Roasting Company.
Great Coffee, Great Location and above all friendly service.
A Gem indeed !

ORIGINAL:
The roaster has been like a faithful old friend to me.

I started coming to the Aptos roaster back in 2003 when I'd stop in for a quick bite after class at Cabrillo, or kickboxing down the street.  Over the course of the last 4 years I must have ordered every drink in the book (minus the seasonal egg nog latte) and I've never once been disappointed.

Even last semester when I was living in San Francisco but commuting to Monterey 2 days a week, it served as my regular pit stop.  Its much more convenient to get to then the roaster downtown, especially for fiends like myself.

Try:
--The "Zoom Brew": it packs more kick then two shots of espresso.
--A toasted garlic bagel.  Your significant other may not want to kiss you for a few hours, but who cares when you're in carbohydrate bliss?

Why not five stars?
Please put cream cheese on my bagel, they do it downtown!

GREAT coffee at affordable prices. The best thing about this place is the one size fits all cup sizes. No need to say "Grande", "Regular", etc. But if you are in a hurry, watch out. They drip each cup so it can take some time and gets really backed up from about 8:00 to 9:00 each morning.  But if you are not in a hurry and just want to hang out, this is a good place. Wireless is very reliable and free. The only other decent place to get a cup in Aptos is Pacific Roasting Company. I refuse to go to Starbucks :-)

For you Starbuck zombies that follow the green and white lettering like Pavlov's dog ... STOP and take note - there is better coffee to be found out in the world!  This is an excellent coffee shop conveniently tucked between the grocery store and the handful of great shops in this center - perfect to stop for a quick pick me up in between errands...or if you've been going to the green and white for so long that you've forgotten what really good, fresh, flavorful, aromatic coffee tastes like.  It's spectacular.

I've ordered regular cups o' joe, fancy drinks when the craving hits, and of course my personal standard, vanilla latte.  Each cup has been caffeinated perfection - EACH cup, not most the time- always.  

The staff here is super nice and friendly, the coffee choices and flavors are great, and they have an awesome selection of treats and eats - from sweet yummies to a basic bagel, and many fine choices in between.  I went out on a limb (limb for me as I get funny about eggs sometimes) and tried the quiche as I simply couldn't ignore the discomfort from my stomach as it began folding inward on itself.  The quiche looked incredibly good and I was stunned that it tasted far better than I had anticipated!  It's not a secret that sometimes coffee shops are just that, good on the coffee, questionable on the snacks...Not this place, both food and drink are fabulous.

The shop is relatively spacious with plenty of tables to sit and watch the passers-by, read a book, or browse through the paper.  If you're in a shopping mood they also have a small 'retail' area with cute little things, and of course coffee related items too.  

I highly recommend this place - even more so if you've been a victim of that damned green and white ( you've been swindled by marketing folks, face it - it's not the quality).  I swear you'll be back there.  Oh, did I mention - in addition to having excellent coffee, great snacks, super service, they also get two more gold stars in my book as they're local and fair trade!!  Come find me in the corner table by the window, I'll be happy to go through the choices with you!!

great coffee, good choice of food. my only complaint is that they can never get my coffee order correct. they don't have a small size so i ask them not to give me a full cup when i order a mocha, too much milk. i don't think it's that difficult an order but they've never once gotten it right. the cashier's never seem to know what they're doing, i guess they have a high turnover rate. i love the live music!

I'm hooked on their nonfat Kona Mocha Frappe...say goodbye to Starbuck's Frappuccino after you've tasted this. The girls who work there are always friendly and polite too.
