Appleby refinished (honed) the limestone floor and countertops in my master bath. The stone looks brand new. They did what they said they would do, when they said they would do it, for the price they quoted.
They are not cheap, but they deliver.
I would use them again. -

Everything went as I expected it would after a brief phone call to understand how they price their carpet cleaning. Their prices are competitive for carpet cleaning ($0.38/sq ft and $0.48/sq ft if they don't have to/have to move furniture respectively) as I discovered from talking to a variety of potential suitors. A quick email exchange to get an appointment setup a week later and we were off to the races!
The confirmation email gave all the relevant information on what to do before they arrive, after they leave. The technician showed up at 1430, within the 2 hour window I was given, 1300-1500. Once there, was shown around to what he had to clean, took measurements to nail down a square footage, gave us a quote on the spot including stairs and it was either go or no-go.
We went ahead with the cleaning and despite my visiting mom who talks far too much with contractors instead of letting them actually work, they worked quickly to identity and obliterate stains. Their equipment and hoses didn't muck up any of the walls in the house - they used corner guards to protect them despite having to go deep into the under belly of the joint. All in all, things went swimmingly as he tackled large rooms, small rooms, closets, 27 steps and a small 4'x8' area rug.
The other options obviously would have been a green cleaner... also not necessarily cheap and then becomes a question of effectiveness to tackle stains etc. (nothing to support this claim of course, but it seems like a reasonable assumption). -

I'm kind of surprised no one has reviewed Appleby Cleaning yet. They are kind of an Oakland/Piedmont carpet cleaning institution, if you can wrap your head around that concept.
Pros:
-They clean stains on carpet and upholstery that you didn't think you could ever get out. I am constantly amazed.
-They show up when they say they will
-They do not appear to employ any psychotic rapists
-None of their employees has ever returned to my home to rob it
-To the best of my knowledge, my wife is not having an affair with any of their employees
Con:
-All of these benefits come at a price. I believe they are significantly more expensive than other carpet cleaners. -

I worked with Appleby to get a rug cleaned that I was donating to my sons' school. The staff were friendly and coordinated with me to help get this project done and finished in a timely fashion.
When I arrived to drop off the rug for cleaning, the staff were courteous and the owner Joe was great. He is one of those folks you know is a great community asset.
I would recommend these folks in a heartbeat based on my experiences with them. They were wonderful. -

We have a beautiful wool rug that's been in our family for nearly 80 years. The Appleby staff do a great job cleaning and maintaining it for us.
Specialties
Appleby specializes in the cleaning of fine area rugs, as well as years of experience in polishing marble, and renovating Mexican Pavers (Saltillo). We feel we are the most knowledgeable company in the East Bay when it comes to assessing your needs in these areas. We also hone, polish and seal all types of stone, clean and seal tile and recoat hardwood.
Our state of the art plant cleans rugs from around the world. We use new truck mounted steam cleaners that clean and renew wall to wall carpet to the highest standard. Our techs are each fully trained to clean fine upholstery and test each piece to determine exactly the correct cleaning method.
We have been servicing the greater Bay Area since 1955.

Established in 1955
The business was established by Semour Appleby as a rug cleaning company in 1955. He expanded into wall to wall carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning as time went on. His son, Joe, took over the family business in 1980 and kept the business growing. In 2001, Mark Belotz started the hard surface division which restores natural stone, tile and grout, hardwood floors, stainless steel and shower glass. Marble, Limestone and Travertine cleaning, honing, polishing, and sealing account for the most amount of business, but Granite cleaning and sealing is not far behind. Most people are looking to take care of their stone in their house and with the licensed, bonded, insured employees of Appleby Total Stone Restoration Division around we can make sure the job is done right the first time with no problems.
This organization is being run today just like its founder would want it to be run, with fantastic customer service, dedicated and friendly employees and commitment to excellence.
Meet the Business Owner: Joe A.
I began working at Appleby (est. 1955) in 1980.
After 30 years of cleaning & restoration you'd think I'd seen it all. Not true.
This is an ever changing industry continually introducing new techniques and chemistry. Keeping up with new fibers and materials can be quite a challenge. I've been fortunate to have a staff that takes such an interest in seeing each project is done to it's greatest potential.
I've also been fortunate to have so many loyal clients throughout the years. Thanks to them, we've been able to keep quality people and deliver quality service.
My wife and I are products of the East Bay. We can't think of a better place to live and work. Our goal is to see Appleby passed on to the next Appleby generation.
