This is the famous store where they let a young woman die next store and all they did was listen to her agonizing death.

I live very close to this Apple Store location, so part of the reason for three stars is pure convenience to me.

This is a fairly large store (took the place of a Blockbuster Video), and it is staffed with friendly employees; however I often feel a bit lost in the store. Maybe it is because I am a more recent convert to the mac, but I am still a little unsure of where to go to ask questions or make a purchase.

Also, I know most people don't live around the corner, so you might want to think about how much of a pain in the ass it is to park in Bethesda. Although there is a garage across the street, it is often very full and you will end up driving to the top just to find that you have to go all the way back down and find some place else to park...

Even if you were giving your precious merchandise away I would not accept it or EVER enter your store again.  How can anyone who works at this store sleep at night after you ignored the screams of the LuLu Lemon employee while she was beaten to death.  I am from this area and I know that the police precinct is literally walking distance from these stores.  The specific workers who ignored this woman should be in jail with the murderer!  SHAME!

It's been a long time since I took my mom's Mac there; never again will I do business with a store where the employees will do nothing while someone is murdered next door.
The employees of this store listened to a murder next store at the Lululemon and did absolutely NOTHING. According to Michael Rosenwald of the Washington Post (1/27/2012), here is what Judge Robert Greenberg said at the sentencing hearing of the case. "The callous indifference of those Apple store employees," Greenberg said. "They did not do a blessed thing."

Send a message to Apple and others that standing by while someone is beaten to death is not acceptable. Take your business and $$ elsewhere.

Apple in general is geared toward a crowd that isn't very tech friendly, which makes their products and services great.  Its a plug it in and it just works mentality.  This is why I'll never switch to an android, its too easy to plug my phone into my computer and everything is synced and backed up.  This and the fact that the support teams is trained to deal with the laymen is why I always recommend Apple's products to my less tech savvy friends and family.

Now to a career Tech Consultant this level of service is often frustrating and a waste of time.  Last year I had an iMac with a CD stuck in the drive.  I tried everything I could find on the internet as well as a few Linux tricks I know to ejected it, it was jammed.  So I called to make an appoint with the "Genius", but first I had to go through an over-the-phone tech support.  He told me to try all the things I tried from above and only than did he finally take my word that the CD was just jammed in the drive.  So he made an appointment for me at Bethesda Row.

I show up for my appoint about 15 minutes early and signed in.  There are 10 people in front me.  There is no way they will get to me by the appointment time.  I waited an an hour a half past my appointment time and after the store was closed I was helped.  When I was help the "Genius" ran through the same things the guy on the phone did and asked me to leave the machine with for the week.  I wasted an almost 2 hours to be told by someone less tech savvy that the CD was jammed and the machine would need to be left.

They fixed the machine and about 6 months later a different CD got jammed.  Instead of dealing with the crap services I just bought an external DVD burner.

After that experience I was sent a survey, which I gave them poor reviews.  A store manager tried to call me while I was at work, but left a message.  When I returned the call I was put on hold.  I waited 15 minutes before I hung up.  The next time I called back I was hung up on.

I know not all Apple stores are like this, but I've been to  this one a few times out of convenience and it is always super busy and its next to impossible to find anyone available to help you.    If you do find someone they often act as if pulling them away from something important.

Also don't come here to find the latest hot item it is always sold out.  Go to the one at Democracy Blvd.  They normally have it, because everyone else in Bethesda is headed to Bethesda Row.

My first experience with an Apple store...  Kind of scary.  I made a Genius Bar appointment for my dying 4th Gen iPod Nano and somehow managed to snag a street parking spot...  The place is in the heart of Bethesda and it's kind of a pain to get to because of the traffic.

My one complaint about the place is that it's not clear where you need to go to check in for your appointments.  I walked all the way up to the area labeled "Genius Bar" and the guy at the counter gave me an odd look (of the "What are you doing at my counter, sir?").  When I told him why I was there, he said to check in with someone else, who was surrounded by a ton of other people, not really easy to spot.

I did finally check-in, and within a few minutes a tech came by to help.  I told him the symptoms, he ran a quick diagnostic, and identified the problem (which meant replacing the thing unfortunately).  Since I was out of warranty, the tech offered me to do an out-of-warranty battery replacement and either get another 4th gen for $60 or get 10% off another iPod purchase.  Didn't do either yet , but he told me what to do the next time I come back.  Nice experience once I got a tech, but I was somewhat put off when I first entered.  We'll see what happens with the second visit...

    In Jobs we trust!

My Macbook Pro gave me a "not charging" message so I went online and scheduled an appointment with one of Steve Jobs' minions at the store. I showed up ten minutes early and the person at the door directed me to the back. They signed me in and told me to browse until called.

Three minutes later a guy came up to me and took me to the "Genius Altar" where he spent five minutes at most assessing that my cord was broken. I was still under warranty so he gave me another one. I was in and out of the store in under ten minutes.

Considering how long it takes Dell, Best Buy or whomever to receive, ticket, repair and return my devices...I'm sticking with the Apple Store. There isn't much else to say about the store itself....they're all clean, shiny and look like something out of Minority Report.

Oh...parking is tricky. By no means should you park at the Giant around the corner and walk. ;-)

I don't think it's too much to ask to expect your "genius" employees to have a moderate amount of hygiene. Handwashing would be a start - my assigned "genius" had the dirtiest fingernails I've ever seen and put them all over my phone. Gross.

Add to that the snotty unhelpful staff and I'm going elsewhere next time. Not that they care...

Lets hope that I have reason to boost these guys up to a second star.  But right now this is where they are sitting.

I have an iMac that has served me well for years.  This review is not at all about the quality of the apple products, I find them top notch, but have always purchased them online,  So to me these stores exist primarily for the Genius Bar, to have repairs done on my computer.

I went with two simple issues with my computer towards the end of December.  A little over a week later they had finished with my computer and it was ready to be picked up.  Zeke, the Genius at the bar was very polite and helpful and the customer service did not leave anything to be desired.  After collecting my computer I took it home and found that the DVD drive (which had been replaced) was having a completely new and more serious issue.

I brought my computer back and explained the issue and displayed it to them.  They were quick to finish with the repair and the computer was ready for me to pick up the next morning.  Foolishly I just took it home instead of demanding to test the issue out while there.

Upon getting home and booting up my computer it was having the very same issue with the DVD drive.  Nothing had changed.  I will be returning.... for a third time... to have my DVD drive fixed.

At the moment I find their ability to repair this issue greatly disappointing.  Again, this is not a problem with the products or the merchandise.  But I would suggest trying a different store if you need to get repairs done, and hopefully this is a problem with the store individually and not systematic.

My favorite apple store by far.

My MacBook had some issues with the track pad and keyboard and they replaced the whole upper part (keyboard, trackpad) for free without any problems. Went there, they kept it overnight, back the next day.
A little later, I had some issues with the trackpad again, which was just inside my 1-year guarantee. They fixed it no problem.
Just after my 1-year guarantee was up, I still had some issues with the trackpad. I took my MacBook in again to get it checked out. They couldn't find anything and due to my school work, I couldn't wait for them so send the computer in to get checked out and fixed. So they replaced the whole computer. No issues since then.

Friendly employees, always helpful (while waiting for my new computer, I was asked 4 times by different employees if I needed help). Been very happy so far!!

Fast, professional, straight-to-the-point service. I had a very good first impression of the Bethesda (Maryland) Apple store.

I came in on a last-minute trek for a new charger for my MacBook. I barely bought my Mac back in in early July so I was pretty sure the charger would be covered under my 1 year warranty. My old charger had initially turned black at the thinner end of the power cord, and finished destroying itself a few days later. I totally needed to get this new charger so I could get back to work & Pandora!

I arrived at the store at around 5:50 PM, no appointment. They had an open slot at 7:15 PM, which was sweet considering my dire circumstances. Sure enough, right at a quarter past 7, I got called. I told the employee what I needed, he typed up some info on his Mac screen, then proceeded to hand me a new MacBook charger, just like that!

It was simply amazing efficiency, simplicity and good customer service.

Oh, and the store is about a 5 minute walk from the Bethesda metro (red line), and the building is quite a sight.

This place has moved across the street and the correct address is 4829 Bethesda Ave.

Big , New beautiful Apple store with helpful staff selling Apple stuff. What's not to like.

Thing1 and Thing 2 love this place. They always want to go here and I always said no until recently - Thing 1 said:

" Dad, how about if we go there for one hour and you can go to Ri Ra and we won't tell Mom"

" Son, you are a genius who will go far in life. That is a brilliant idea. Just don't get into any trouble and don't annoy any customers"

So in they go to play their games and goof off and I go to have a couple of quiet pints at Ri Ra. Pleasure indeed.

When I come back to get them I ask if everything was OK and Thing1 says:

" yeah Dad, I think towards the end some of the staff realized we were unaccompanied so I started standing beside this lady to make them think she was my mom. I think it worked"

    That's my boy !

Ever had a panic morning? That was me as I tried to get ready to leave on a mini-vacation this past weekend. I was finishing getting ready to head for BART to go to the airport when I discovered my iPhone wasn't responding. And wouldn't make phone calls. And stuck its tongue out at me. (They're fancy like that.) Since I knew I'd need to coordinate with several friends and colleagues while traveling, I couldn't let it misbehave that way. Since a spanking was out, I started the Restore function to reboot the operating system, then tried to sync so that I could recover my music for the long cross-country flight. Sadly, the 512MB RAM-hamster in my ancient computer (2004) couldn't keep up and I had to dash out the door and sprint to catch my train. The only thing that saved my flight from sucking was the fact that I slept for most of it.

Landing in DC, I thought I'd be fine. Until I tried calling a friend to say I'd gotten in. And my phone wasn't responding. And the call wouldn't go through. And it stuck its tongue out at me. (Little jerk.) Luckily, we managed to meet up anyway and later that day I went online and made an appointment at the Genius Bar in Bethesda.

Arriving after a restorative brunch around the corner, I was a bit underwhelmed by the store. It's small. Like, 20' x 40' , only 2-station Genius Bar small. In fairness, I decided, I'm used the to massive flagship location in downtown San Francisco, so it's not a valid comparison.

The staffer at the door was cheerful and welcomed us immediately upon entering. He also told my friend that she should tag along with my Genius Bar appointment to do a return on her broken headphones, otherwise she'd have to come back for her own appointment. (Props for helping us work the system!) My appointment with Maureen was right on time and she processed the return/exchange of the headphones in about as much time as it takes to say it. She then plugged in my phone and announced that it was shooting out error messages faster than 10-year-old's slingshot.

Good news: They straight up replaced my iPhone at no cost
Bad news: Lost all the data on it, not all of which could be backed up

Still, the rest of the trip, and up through writing this review, my new phone has been responding. It's been making calls. And it keeps its tongue in its mouth. :)

I just about died when I was in the 1hr+ line at the DMV when my iPod came up with this screen that said "Unable to launch, iPod may be full, see Apple support...yaddaaaa". It was frozen on that screen and I couldn't get it to go away or turn off. My iPod wasn't even 6 months old!! Great. Now what?

Before heading into work at 5, I made a quick trip to the Bethesda Apple store. It was packed. Now, I know most of the stores are pretty full just about everytime you go in one, but it was like bees buzzing on honeycomb.

It was nearly impossible to find a free person to talk to - but after standing under the vent for awhile (they had the doors open so it was blistering hot in there), someone finally approached me. I was pretty thankful they were able to fix my iPod without making me make an appointment to come back and have it fixed later that night or the next day.

The guy was pretty helpful though he was a bit confused after never having seen that screen before.

Anyway - great location, friendly/helpful (once you get to finally talk to one) - will help meet your Apple needs :-)

Bethesda Apple, I absolutely adore you. You've made me one super happy person by selling me a new iPhone 4 at 8AM yesterday, no pre-orders, no hassle, and you were offering people in line free bottled water.  Talk about customer service!

Here's an instant replay of my fabulous day yesterday. I decided to head over to the Apple Bethesda Row store yesterday around 7:40am, hoping to snag one of the new iphones but really, I wasn't high on my hopes given the craze on launch day.  Got there. 10 people in line before me.  Even though they were going to open at 8am for iPhone sales, they decided to open earlier around 7:15am since people were already waiting outside.  About 10 minutes later, an Apple staff came out and said, "Yes, we have enough iPhones for ALL OF YOU... " Repeat.."All of you."  I literally had to pinch myself for reality check.  My heart started pounding at insane speed......

By 8:15am, I walked out of the Apple store, w/ my new 32GB iPhone and an AT&T contract. Ok, the latter, I am not so thrilled about but, I'm sucking it up for the magnificent iPhone.  Such a beautiful device.

    Apple Bethesda Row, YOU ROCK!

The House of Jobs -- this is what Apple Service was meant to be.  Yes, I pay the high prices for the flashy looking stuff which sometimes takes form over substance, but I expect great service.

Replaced my 4 day old broken iPhone 4 no questions asked, after I had been given a hard time at another Apple Store. I should also point out that I didn't ask for a free replacement at the Apple Store. But, they inspected it and found a manufacturing defect. The other store barely looked at it.
I wouldn't think there would be a difference, but maybe some managers are trying to run a really tight ship or something.

This is seriously the worst Apple store I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.  You *always* have to wait to see someone, even if you make an appointment, because the appointment time you want is definitely unavailable.  It is *always* crowded, but for how many people work there, you would think you would still get some individual attention without fighting for it.  But unless you're willing to drop a couple hundred bucks and they know it, it takes forever.

I have had to take my Macbook to them three times in less than a year.  The first time, the guy quite obviously didn't believe there was anything wrong with it and had them run the basic diagnostic tests that they are required to run on every product that comes in, even though he said he would run more tests.  The second time, the girl was helpful but she didn't file a report, so it wasn't until the third time that I got my computer fixed (for the problem I had brought it in for months and months before, which was becoming a serious issue).

In fact, one of their so-called "geniuses" even called me after the third time I brought it in to tell me he couldn't "replicate the problem" -- haha, the computer couldn't even charge.  I had to convince him I had already been through this process not once but TWICE, and that there was surely a serious problem with it.  And I am confident that if he had looked at the computer for more than five minutes, he would have realized that himself.  Finally, he replaced the part--but that's his freaking job.

If you need repairs done on your computer, don't waste your time, and go to MacUpgrades instead.

God...Apple is truly getting on my nerves.  After my last experience at the Douchebag's Apple Store, I had to return yet again due to my phone turning into a brick again.  Yes...again.  I was told the same thing, though, no help for me since I submerged my phone in the toilet for several hours and then didn't dry it off.  Really?  If I had submerged my phone it would have not worked.  That little sensor is NOT reliable.

The guy, this time, was rather amenable and instead showed me where to look to see what is going on with the phone.  He was very helpful in his comments and demeanor and looked purely disenfranchised with the fact that he could do nothing.  I eventually coughed up the money to get a replacement phone.

At least all of my information saved to iTunes...NOT.  The three stars are for the service of the Associate (5 stars) added to the service of Apple (1 star) and averaged out.

This review is a year or two belated, but I just remembered the bone I have to pick with this store: unrepentantly unhelpful employees.

I have a PowerBook G4 that I love very much, but like many macs, it has had some petty hardware problems.  My speakers had slowly been losing quality (first the bass went crunchy, but now songs were noticeably missing parts) so I decided to take my baby to my local Apple Store to make use of my precious last 3 months of Applecare.

The store was pretty well staffed when I arrived, so I didn't have to wait very long.  I'm glad I didn't, because the trip was a total bust.  The guy helping me?  Uninterested in customer service.  Well, he didn't know my music, but *he* couldn't hear anything wrong, so I must be imagining the missing layers.  No, I couldn't have it looked at or just fixed anyway (a store elsewhere once did that for me).  No, that bass doesn't sound crunchy to him.  It sounds fine.  Definitely nothing he can do or have done.

What the heck?  I'm not a computer-hypochondriac, and I don't make up lies about chunks of my music missing.  I left no wiser, and certainly no happier.

I still want to kick that guy in the butt, along with whoever was letting employees be jerks.

I made a Genius Bar appointment online the day before (which really is the only way to do it) and they were way more more helpful than I was expecting. I know it can be hit and miss with the Genius folks, but there *are* some good ones.

I had my ipod hard drive replaced somewhere else three months ago, and it's already failing. The guy (Jake? Jeff? Joel? Something like that) was really nice, checked it out pretty quickly, and wrote up a diagnosis letter for me to send along with my ipod back to the people who put in the bad hard drive.

He made sure to not delete anything (I hadn't backed it all up yet) and suggested that resetting after backing it up might help some other problems I've been having.

He also explained that running with an ipod is terrible for the hard drive, and that it would prob'ly be worth it to get a cheaper, lightweight model without a hard drive, considering my horrendous track record with ipods.

No one minded that I'd had repairs done elsewhere, and I very much appreciated the (free!) diagnosis and advice.

These guys are very unprofessional. I was informed that an item was going to be in the store at 9:00am the next day to (first come first serve customers). I traveled from DC and arrived there at 9:00 sharp and saw that people were being sent away because it was sold out. How was that possible? The store wasn't even opened yet. I called a few minutes later to politely ask a few questions and I was immediately hung up on without an explanation. I'm a huge apple user and probably one of the reason why their stocks are so high and responsible for their employment....just to be treated this way. How much is a HP Touchpad?

I was directed towards the back of the store where i was directed yet again and then eventually paired with a new store associate who had to keep asking other associates for help which ended up taking a lot of time, which made me angry about my luck. Granted, trial by fire, but an annoyance about the amount of time it took to get a response about my phone situation. The next visit to get a new phone went a lot more smoothly as I was in and out with an upgrade in under 15 minutes and went a lot faster and simplified the whole process of getting a new phone in my mind. A mixed bag, but still came out with what i needed  without too many inconveniences to unexpected charges.

Before you label yourself a genius, you had better know what your talking about. Due to bad advice from one of their "geniuses"  at the "genius bar" (the name of which should have been my first indication that they would all be talking out of their asses) I have lost all the info on my phone. When I called apple, they confirmed that yep, it was bad advice. Nice job jackass.

I came on the wrong day (oops) for my "genius bar" appointment. First of all I would like to say, that is a ridiculous term. "Excuse me, i'm here for the genius bar." Barf. Anyway, the "genius" managed to fit me in and give me a replacement battery, even though they were busy, saving me another trip out with my macbook.  If I have any other reason to come here I'll update my review and see if they can get up to 5 stars.

This is a nice size apple store! There's enough room to roam around, unlike the one in Montgomery Mall. The employees are everywhere but it seems like there's not enough compared to the amount of people that are roaming around.

Revising my review because they've moved across the street to a much larger space (3x bigger than the old one).  I was there for an hour waiting for a friend and played with the 2G iTouch unmolested.  I was greeted when I arrived, and at least 2 people asked me if I needed help while I was there.  Amazing what an economic downturn will do to make your staff more helpful!

First of all I love Apple
I came many time at the apple store in Bethesda for many kind of things most of all when I needed to gift some I-Pod or I-touch for my friends oversea so it s not my first bargain in this place

Other time I came for customer services and that 's the point !
WTF this guys think they are I nether felt considered that way before
The first time that happened I wasn't really concern because I was just here with a friend of mine who got in trouble with her Iphone
the guy give us a look like BS
Excuse me everybody is not a computer genius !!!!
We left like WTF that s not customer service !!!
OMG so disappointed , my friend and I were like '' may we didn't got the point ( we re from oversea !) okay may be next day gonna be better !

Today I went there ,very welcomed at the door, as usual .
I talked about the matter, I got with some earphone I bought last month (almost 80$ ) not the basic 30$ one
just want to mention that it suppose to be warranty effective trough July 2010

okay the guy at the door told me to see a cashier pointing me the guy concerned , I got in line and he ask me how he could help me ,
so I told about the ear -phone and the guy looked at me like I was expecting 8th wonder of the world
" I you expect for a miracle from me!? ''
It s not an answer to give when you re working with customer it's"s the golden rule number one nether use sarcasm !!!
I work with customers since 19 years So I pretty know what I m talking about and don't look at me like I'm an old lady I m 36 , anyway !
No fuss I told that guy I bought it last month and the warranty is still effective so what can you do ?
I show him the email receipt and he asked me to fallow him to one of the computer to print it told me that when it s done check with his colleague at the cashier he pointed her to make sure that I know who he was talking about ...
After fact I went to her told my story again(this guy do not communicate between each other ?!) and she asked for the help from somebody who seems to be a manager or something else to dial a code something I don't know what ... and I couldn't believe my ears he was telling to one of his other colleague that he was thinking that I was a girl WTF is the point !!!! I felt super uncomfortable SO took a deep breath , in my mind :no fuss this guy are definitely the kind of ass hole who do not deserve to be smart ! poor thing ! The other one had noticed How I felt and apologised " Sorry ! guys here got a lot of fun !!! '' "I can tell ! " smiley answered !

The cashier girl ended her job and, cherry on the top, told me to get my receipt at the printer located under a desk, I mean it was printing upside down under a desk and I had to literally fishing it under the table ... it was THE drop !

So I gonna wait a long time before getting back here I very mad to that guy and I don't want allow another occasion to threat myself that way
Guys, Apple is suppose to be high technology on a high level price I don't really matter about the casual outfit of the staff but casual talk is not that welcome in that kind of industry !
and it would not be tolerable
Take a not that I gonna write to the Apple's customer service on line

This new and improved store is much larger, offers a better selection, and has a nicer layout.  I don't own a Mac, but there are more than enough accessories for my iPod touch on the back wall.  And while I've never had to use the Genius Bar, others have reported to me about success in their endeavors there.  My only problem with this store is a problem I have with Apple in general: too pricey!

Poorly run store. Employees will take care of you -- IF you can get their attention. Not even a "we'll be with you in a moment" or "can I help you?" Computer geeks may be good with apps, but they make lousy customer service reps. The genius bar is understaffed and WILL make you wait.
