8 reviews for Apple Ridge Cafe
I can't even conceive of a universe where this restaurant receives less than a five star rating.
EVERYTHING here is superb. One of the biggest dilemmas I have when going here is deciding on breakfast or lunch. We often start the decision-making process when leaving the house and go back and forth with each other the whole way there.
BEST: Breakfast Burrito with Green Chile
BEST: REAL Blueberry pancakes (Not just plain cakes with a smear of filthy canned pie compote spattered across the top)
BEST: Onion Rings...beer battered and thick, absolute ecstasy
BEST: Bacon cheeseburger (melt in your mouth stylee)
BEST: Chocolate shakes made with real iced cream
The waitresses can seem off-putting at first. But after 8 years of going here it just seems like part of the package...the food is literally SO good here that it dry-humps that four star rating right up into the five...and beyond. (Where's the mysterious "sixth star" rumored to be given to Uber-Yelpers to bestow extra graces? This place would get it from me)
If this place was Hell, even Angels would be making the drive. Nuff said!
It looked quaint from the outside and was like any other diner on the inside. It definitely seemed like all the wait staff was preferential to the "regulars", which was a little irksome, but despite myself I was kind of fond of it. It calls back to the older days when a few gray haired guys would walk in and be greeted by name by a ruby lipped waitress named Flo.*
The food was pretty average and our waitress was kinda cordial but not overly friendly. And luckily we didn't receive the service that Kat A. got.
But nothing about my visit really beckons me to go back any time soon.
* This isn't to say that all the waitresses or customers there are like that, but when we went in for breakfast that is what it was.
I am hoping above all hope that my experience today was an anomaly, because I'd really like to appreciate this little diner. Oh, and I'd like to preface with this fact: I am not an asshole. I am generally pretty nice to people. I tip well, and I'm patient. I was a server once upon a time; I get the whole dynamic.
That being said, it's going to be a while before I return.
So, I woke up craving biscuits and gravy. It happens. Haven't had it in an age. We decided to try Apple Ridge since it's not too far and had decent reviews. We showed up and there was no line. For about two minutes we stood looking confused before a lady behind the counter let us know that a hostess would seat us shortly. Fine.
Moments pass. About four other parties enter. A few of them walk up and write their names on a pad of paper. Befuddled older woman walks by us repeatedly and honest to God looks like she's trying her damnedest to will people to disappear. She takes the fourth couple to enter and offers to seat them. I call her on it and she announces we should have written our names on the paper. The nice couple offers to let us take their place, as we've been there for almost ten minutes now (and entered to no wait, I might add).
Fast forward through the rest of the horribly awkward and thoroughly unwelcoming seating adventure. We finally wind up with a booth.
Another five minutes before we're offered coffee and some menus are thrown at us.
A good five minutes later before we finally get someone to take our order. She's friendly enough, but MAN. From that point forward, we got our coffee warmed up repeatedly, but after the food was unceremoniously dropped on our table, we didn't hear another peep from our actual server.
And while the food wasn't bad, it certainly wasn't anything phenomenal, either, unless you ask my toddler who thought her scrambled egg with cheese and bacon was about the tastiest thing to ever cross her lips.
You can't pay with credit, and you have to pay up front. Not a huge deal, I suppose, because I doubt we would have been able to get our server to stop long enough to take our money. What was insulting, though, was that we were told to pay $17 more than was on our bill. I was on my way out when my friend ran up to me insisting my husband needed more cash. I swiveled and insisted they re-add the bill, and lo and behold, massive error. OOPS.
Given the service we received and the fact that we were treated like a waste of time, I'm disappointed. You could tell they care about their regulars, which I guess says something, but if they're interested in ever developing new clientele, they're really going to need to step up their game.
HOT-DAMN THAT PIE IS GOOD!
When we came into this little diner, we were greeted with a friendly smile and seated immediately. We sat down and ordered the specials, and with that we got our choice of soup, salad, or pie. Pie!? Sign me up!
The lunch was good, and a filling portion, and the pies are all hand-made on-site. Mm-mm-mmm! So many choices, but since I'm a sucker for any kind of cooked apples, I went with the apple pie with whipped cream. My friend had the apple pie a la mode.
It was the best pie I've had since my dear grandma gave up baking due to frailty.
We had never been to Apple Ridge before and won't go back. We went there for breakfast, the booth they put us in was very low down;any lower we'd be sitting on the floor. I ordered Biscuts & Gravy
our food came to us 20 minutes after we were seated and that's when the problem started I ordered eggs over easy, they were so cooked you could see the grizzle on them and very hard, the sign in front of the restaurant says homestyle pies and cinnamon rolls, well my biscuts for my biscuts & gravy were so hard that the Avalanches could have used them as hockey pucks, the gravy was stone cold. The restaurant had alot of flies in there and several landed in my food, the waitress never came back to see if everything was ok untill she brought the check , the sauage I had was absolutly terrible cold and hard. I hope the rest of their food there is better for lunches & dinners or they are going to loose alot of customers. One more thing the restaurant was extremly noisy very bad accousitics.
Last summer while out in CO on vacation, we were headed to the Denver flea market and we stumbled upon this place.
Well, let me tell you, this is it!
It was breakfast time and we both ordered the breakfast burrito, which was HUGE. Filled with eggs, potato, cheese, beans, onions, peppers and covered with this yummy red chile sauce with pork, which was so spicy good. ( I have been trying to m make this myself at home but can't seem to get it right) I usually do not order breakfast, as I don't like breakfast foods, and they had the entire menu open....meatloaf, turkey sandwiches...open all day!! The hostess lady was so nice and friendly she even gave us cinnamon rolls as we were leaving and thanked us for coming and wished us well on our travels. I cant wait to go back to Denver and eat here again.
I also had the breakfast burrito here just before I went over to Colorado Pro Gym just down the street and it was freaking huge and pretty damn tasty. Slightly spicy and filling up the entire plate it's the perfect post-drinking evening compliment.
The folks working there are really nice and the only downside is that it's cash only. Great little independent spot!
Well, I've seen this place before but never had any motivation to try it out. Finally on a lazy Sunday my friend and I who I just picked up from the airport really wanted some breakfast. So we swung on in and gave it a shot.
Upon walking in the first thing you smell are the homemade cinnamon rolls so we had to try one.
After a cinnamon orgy I had a plate of eggs, potatoes and blueberry pancakes. Potatoes were yummy, pancakes were ok but I can see other items on the menu I have to try.
Quick and friendly service but bring CASH! No credit cards accepted.
I spent 10 minutes finding loose change in my car to pay!
