Was brought here by our central coast road trip partners in crime : Andy and DAPH!

Very unique intercontinental style restaurant. definitely reminds me of the hotel del in our hometown of SD and/or an upscale OG version of Marie calendars.

We were seated very promptly, service was on point and the food was all good.. We got the early bird special (2:30-4:30) $13.95 comes w/ your choice of soup or salad main entree and dessert.

The must get here is the open faced sandwich. Pick from roast beef, turkey or meatloaf. Definitely a winner!

please be aware that the half sandwich, half soup/salad menu item doesnt refer to the open face sandwiches.

Top it all off w/ the apple pie ala mode.

I'll be back apple farms! thanks!

This review is for the restaurant only..

    Awful..
I usually can understand why people leave good reviews for places that I hate.. but I have no idea on how you could leave a good review for this restaurant.. I've eaten better food in army mess halls.. i've eaten better food prepared for me by my 7 year old.
    cold
    bland
    awful
    eh service
    dirty seating
again i must stress.. the food was awful.. awful awful awful. I had the tri-tip with the scalloped potatoes.. and some cold boiled veg.. i have nothing nice to say about anything on that plate..

I get that, based on the look of the place, it's more of a place for kitsch, then for food, but given they are charging $15-25 for these plates of slop, shouldn't they at least try to make it edible?

The review is for the restaurant and baked their baked goods.

Every time my friends and I go to SLO, we always stop by Apple Farm to get their delicious cookies. We decided to have breakfast here one day. The decor of the restaurant had decor of apples and farm animals all over the place.

I had ordered the eggs and bacon. It was a good portion of food. It came with three eggs, three thick slices of bacon, hashbrowns and your choice of muffin, toast, english muffin or scone and boysenberry jelly. I chose the pumpkin muffin, it was warm and yummy. My friend got the apple muffin and that was heaven! it had a streusel topping and small chunks of apple inside.

Overall the service was good, got the food in a timely manner and prices are fair. I can't wait to go back! Only bummer was the bakery didn't have much options left at that time and it was only the afternoon! I really wanted to buy apple muffins togo. But I did buy their English toffee cookies which are the best!!

Me and my hubby decided on a quick weekend get away and someone recommended us to the Apple Farm. We did not get a room in the inn, but in the more motelish end. Our room was a little smaller, however it had a fireplace and a personal secluded hot tub, which was really one of those massage therapy tubs, where the jets really don't go very hard. Even with that I have to say the atmosphere and decor was so cute and country style. We enjoyed our room as it was quaint, and we were really not looking for extravegant, we liked soaking in the hot tob with the trees all around and nature. It was pretty. We ate breakfast in the restaurant and both times really enjoyed out meals. We would for sure stay there again. Again we are not razzle dazzle folks and just enjoyed the simplicity and cute decor.

A few years ago, I would have given this place five stars hands-down. Back then, I was a college student, and so I noticed other college students more readily. The Apple Farm was swarming with them, because most of the employees were Cal Poly kids earning their keep and making small talk with tourists, and this pleased me greatly. But I feel like the restaurant just ain't what it used to be.

Granted, the Apple Farm is very dependable if you want a better-than-Applebees hearty American meal. You will find something on the menu that you'll be able to eat, and you'll leave full. I just feel like this place has lost its charm. It used to be kitschy and cute, with its trinkets and candles and candies all available for purchase before you even set foot inside the dining room. Now it just seems like a battle between you and the Christmas tchotchkes, and you will lose every time. There is too much glitter everywhere. It's frightening. I'm not knocking the service or the food, but this place is sort of stuck in the mid-80s Midwest--it has a salad bar, for Christ's sake--and it shows no signs of escaping. If you have kids, come here. If you don't, eat somewhere on Higuera Street.

I used to come here all the time with m family but since I am never in the area anymore I totally forgot about it until recently. I saw that they just joined Open Table and so yesterday when my friend and I went to Hearst Castle we drove an hour south out of our way just to go there. I was so happy to see that nothing had changed and was extremely happy that the apple dumpling a la mode hadn't changed either.
The decor is a bit outdated and smells musty, but what do you expect for a place that is as old as it is? The decor just adds to the charm.
I can't wait for the excuse to go back again!!!

Okay listen here.  I lived in SLO for years....never had a bad experience at this place.  I went to the place twice in a 12hour period on my last trip to SLO.

Friday night, we call in for a pick up order, upgraded on a couple caesar salads.  She didnt take down my phone number.  So when we got there she tell proceeded to tell me that my plate wasn't available. So I ordered something else and waited another 15 minutes, but she was like "don't worry we'll still get the same sides and stuff for you."  I can only assume that she meant the upgraded salads and additional soup.  I ordered a side of garlic bread and she threw it in for free.  That was cool.  So I pay for the meal, she didn't offer me a copy of the itemized receipt.  We get home and find out we didn't get our caesar salads.  Did I get charged for them? Jesus Christ.  So we call and have them adjust the charges on my card.

The next morning I take my girlfriend there, despite the crap ass take out service the night before.  Our server, John came by to take our order.  5 min later...he comes by and asks...you know I asked her what kind of toast I can get, but forgot to ask you.  I order an english muffin.  He comes back in another 5 and says, you know I asked you how you wanted your eggs but how did you (my friend) want yours?  JESUS CHRIST.  You mean I could have been eating my breakfast like 10 min earlier if you had properly taken my order?!??

Lucky for you I'm nice and I work in the industry and still gave you a lil over 20%, but damn you Apple Farm, never again.

The one star is for the food.  It's good.  It would have been two, but parking is a bitch.

We stayed at the Apple Farm for the second time recently and had a wonderful time. If your up for the ultimate romantic stay ask for the Mill House. The Mill House has two rooms both with private spa tubs on there balconies. A free wine reception every evening and free bakery fresh cookies. The grounds are are impeccable kept gardens and the staff is attentive.

Stayed at Apple Inn for one night on December 20 and I'm happy it was only one night. The room was cold, it was practically the same temperature inside as it was outside and the heater wasn't working. After calling the desk about it, they quickly sent someone who put us in another room. The heater here was working but stops intermittently. When we called the front desk, he admitted that the facilities heaters are really old and just don't do a good job. We just had to wear all our warm clothes and cover up all night. It was definitely a waste of money as I paid an extra $30 for a room with a hot tub and was unable to use it as we didn't want to be in a cold room after getting wet.

Apart from that facility issue, the staff was very responsive and pleasant. I was happy with the customer service and cleanliness of the room but not with the room and most specifically the temperature.

There are many inns and hotels right around this one and I would stay at one of the newer ones with better heating when it is cold.

Review is for Restaurant and Hotel....
I love this place.  Parents used to bring us here to stay the night often when we were growing up, even though it's only 20 minutes away from home.  My mom loved it there and now I know why.  As kids you're just excited to go stay in a hotel but now that I'm older I appreciate it.  I love that you get a wooden apple to take home after your stay.  I love the wine reception even though I don't particularly love wine.  The only bad things about the room is the small, needs to be updated tv's.  but I guess you're not supposed to go there to watch tv. and it would be nice if there were refridgerators.
Room 100 is my favorite.  I love the big tub and the fact that you have your own private entrance to the pool.  It is a bit louder because it's right by the elevator.  but it's okay.  I always request room 100.

The restaurant is delicious.  I usually order the meatloaf, it's very delicious.  The side of cornbread is very, very good.  I really like the salad bar, but to add a trip it's quite expensive so I usually don't.
I ALWAYS order the apple brown betty for dessert and take it back to my room with me, since I'm usually quite full to eat it right away.  Make sure they warm it up for you though.  They make the vanilla ice cream there and it is amazing!
I love the free apple cider in the lobby and the decorations and smells of the whole place.
Stay here as often as my bank account will allow.  Look for specials and deals.  Sign up for the email list to receive specials.  This place isn't cheap, but it's worth it.

I am just writing about their gift shops. I haven't dined or stayed here but I will let you know next time. If you like craft fairs, this place is here all year round. I my self love the holidays and love all the crafty things about it. For every holiday, I
like to decorate crafty items and non holiday, I like to decorate with style. You might want to leave your husbands outside and tell them you need an hour to yourself.

Great place for birthday or Christmas gifts!!

This place is an institution in San Luis Obispo. I went here for Thanksgiving dinner so my meal is most likely not normally on their menu.

Farm decor is the theme. Hearty food (and plenty of it) is what is served.
I was wary of what I was in store for when my salad arrived. Just some lettuce with one cherry tomato, one cucumber slice and a single crouton. It left a lot to be desired. But then came a chunk of cornbread that was to die for. It was enormous and delicious - I wanted to carve a doorway in it and move in. Then came the dinner: honey glazed ham with a side of honey mustard, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beens and sweet potatoes. I wasn't a fan of the sweet potatoes but everything else was fantastic. The stuffing had (I think) sausage and apples in it - tasty stuff.  I wasn't able to finish everything on my plate before I was full. But then our server told us that a slice of pie came with the meal. Yelp rule #8: There is always room for pie. My slice of boysenberry pie was simply the best. The crust was perfection and the berries were equally perfect.

It was a great meal albeit a bit overpriced. But it WAS Thanksgiving and I didn't have to cook or do the dishes!

I took my Fiance to breakfast here, and this place deserves 4 stars BUT the hostesses at the front stole 2 stars due to their rudness. We walk in and are looked at up and down from the group of 3 galsstanding behind the Hostess desk having a 5 minute personal conversation, we are hopeing to be properly and promply attended. We felt ignored and are left feeling how should i say judged... WAIT we are paying to be here!! We give the old EHEM and are finally "put on the waiting list" and not in a friendly manner. There was no reason to be looked at like a highschool girl in pajamas, we both looked nice and smelled nice too, so I dont understand the rude body language towards us by the hostess.

My wife and I stopped by for a cup of coffee and dessert. The waitress asked me to fill my coffee that I was having. I didn't really need it and then when I got my bill I  found out that they charge for all refills.  Where in the hell do they do that?
I just think that it was the waitresses responsibilty to me the customer to advise me of the policy when offering a refill, especially when it wasn't needed.  Hey waitresses always offer ,...but there's no charge.  This was the bad.
The good was that the chichen quesedilla was excllent and so was the peanut butter cookie w/M&M's.
I would come back again for the patio and treats.

I think if I was staying at the hotel I would have enjoyed the simple convience of the restaurant.  Our service was good, and now that I am older I appreciate the decor and ambiance of this place.  However, the food is just o.k.  I got a turkey pot-pie that I thought would be like Claim Jumper's (before Claim Jumpers changed owners) loaded with a ton of turkey, veggies, and gravy in a big bowl topped with flakey pie crust.  I did get the good flakey pie crust here, but the bowl was more like a super shallow saucer making it look big.  It wasn't.....Just o.k. too with a little bit of fresh fruit on the side for $13.00.

The wife's burger was decent served with locally grown produce.  Kids hot dogs were good too.  Like other reviewers say, everything is Marie Callender's quality with higher prices.

I think the best part about coming here was the bakery.  We got some pretty good cookies on the way out, and I picked up a 22oz Apple Farm Pale Ale that was much better than expected.  Nice hop flavor.

I think next time I'd rather spend $50 on good fruit preserves, and some other things from the gift shop and bakery.  Man, 15 years ago I would never have written that last sentence.

It's basically having breakfast at your grandparent's place out in the country. You walk through a shop that has all sorts of neat crafty items, sit down in comfy over-stuffed benches with brass fittings, Tiffany-style lamps  on the table, and lace curtains over the beveled glass windows.

The omelette I got was huge and tasty. The hot biscuits &  gravy was to die for. Best of all, when I remarked that I really liked the boysenberry preserves, the waitress grabbed a jar of freshly-made preserves in a jar and sent me home with it.

This now on my 'must visit' list every time I go back to SLO.

Wow!  This place was great.  I travel 50% of the year and this place was the best hotel I have stayed at this year.  The rooms are huge and have a fireplace, at least the ones I stayed in.  For someone who stays at the major hotel chains (platinum member) this was a nice change from your boring run of the mill franchise hotels.  Thank you for the wonderful and relaxed stay.  Oh, and they had a govt. rate!

I get the appeal of this place, I really do. It's got character, country charm and kitch coming out of its ears. Don't even get me started on the flowers. Yes, it's got plenty of those. I'm sure someone's grandmother would walk into this place and throw her hands, knitting and tea cozies up in the air in jubilation...but i'm not a grandmother.

The room was nice. Very flowery. Did I mention there were a lot of flowers here? The restaurant was itself was so-so. I enjoyed my apple iced tea.  The free cookies in the lounge were tempting and looked delicious. I wonder if they were baked by a grandmother?  The little gift shops near the lobby and the restaurant were also full of country randomness and grandmothers' treasures.

Did I mention there were lots of flowers?

Yeah, it's "frilly, fruity, country-homey" whatever.  I'm a guy with tattoos, a potty mouth and a predilection for films with gore and senseless violence, and I can appreciate the fact that this place is to look like a doll house.  So what?  Enjoy it, don't get rubbed the wrong way by it, just get caught up in it and enjoy it for what it is.

Staff is super friendly across the board.  We loved the free cookies at 7PM (Heath bar chip.... stomach orgasm....), the afternoon wine/hors d' oeveurs at 3:30 in the Garden Room- the host was the most awesome individual ever, thanks for the six full glasses of wine and tips on where to find it for $4- the wait staff in the restaurant (get the cinnamon roll french toast and the country breakfast- will feed your family of 4 easily.....)

Kids loved the pool and grounds.

Only down sides- super early room tidying staff (we didn't put a sign on the door and they were in there at 9AM upon our return from breakfast, making it a bitch to pack up for the day for our kids and get out ok), low shower pressure in shower, and an air conditioner that only seemed to make the surrounding 6-foot radius cool, not the entire room.

We thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it highly.

    (for the restaurant)

    The short of it....
If you plan to try the potato pancakes for the first time, don't bother!

    The long of it....
I have been to the Apple Farm twice before for breakfast and what I've ordered was pretty tasty.    But this time I choose to ignore our servers suggestions (warning) and I order the potato pancakes anyway.  Not the smartest move on my part!   They've changed the recipe and they are not as good AND not worth ordering.... especially IF you are a fan of potato pancakes.

Bottom line?  if you want HUGE portions of pretty good food in your grandma's very homey and very country kitchen, this is the place to go (just avoid the potato pancakes!).

Ridiculous prices for sub-par food. BLT had a single tiny slice if tomato and smidge of lettuce. More of a 'B sandwich.' The club sandwiches were just mediocre on bread that wasn't even toasted. Being slim people we usually appreciate normal size or small sized portions but these were significantly small. Even the sides were dinky. The food in general reminded all of us of something you'd find at a "side if the road" diner.

The only thing we did enjoy was the great patio. The view and gorgeous plants almost made up for the 'meh' food. There are much better dining experiences than this for the money.

For me, this place is more about ambiance and nostalgia than it is about food. And the gift shop, which is great. In a way, this is like the Pea Soup Andersen's of San Luis Obispo. But with apples.

As for the food, I would say it's on par with Marie Callender's. Except for the desserts, which are decidedly inferior compared to that chain. Everything is overpriced, too. The coffee is good, though.

Still, it's always very pleasant to eat here. Very picturesque.

This review is for the restaurant only. We stayed across the street at La Cuesta.

The restaurant is definitely Marie Callender's with a more homey feel (and higher prices)- we were here for a long weekend and this was our first meal there. The turkey dinner was just that, a turkey dinner- kids menu was not that interesting, the spaghetti was not that appealing (pasta is always a hit with ours)---- so overall, an OK dining experience but nothing that exciting.

Service was ok, the waiter didn't seem to know much about catering to a family with toddlers, which was surprising.

Price is a bit high for what you get, I don't think we'll go back on our next vacation.

I had never stay @ this place, but I always make sure I stopped @ this place when I pass through SLO.  My friend took me here in the mid 90s, nothing has change over the years, it is still a fun place for me to stop when I pass by.

The staffs are friendly, love their jam, especially apple cider (always make sure I grab a gallon or two), there are always fun things to discover in the gift shop (kinda pricy tho).

The bottom line is, even if you're not staying here, it is still worth to stop here just to check it out.

The service is topnotch and the food is so comforting it's hard not to take a nap after each meal!  The apple sausage is to die for, I can NEVER resist the apple dumplings, the biscuits and gravy kill me, and I always grab two jars of apple butter on the way out.

The cider and ice cream at the water wheel house are something I can't seem to pass up either!!!!

One of the "meal options" we took advantage of was to stop by Apple Farm's famed restaurant...for one reason, because we were staying directly across the street at the La Cuesta Inn, and as nice as it was to have a great (and FREE!) continental breakfast at our disposal, you know what they say about variety, kids! For the other reason, a very eye-catching (and mouth-watering) billboard we saw on the way to Avila Beach helped seal the deal. Breakfast it was!

The morning we dashed across the street was pretty soggy (as every morning had been for about the past three days!) Even so, the Farm's parking lot was full, and the waiting area was just about as populated. However, the friendly-yet-VERY-businesslike staff had this thing down to a science, and when they told us the wait would be about 10-15 minutes, they weren't kidding! We took the time to browse around the up-and downstairs gift shop areas - both nicely appointed and decked out with a lot of cool, homey-looking (and tres EXPENSIVE!!!!) wares. What caught my eye, of course, was the bakery out front, with enough deadly-delicious looking desserts to put extra saddlebags on your caboose just by LOOKING at them.

We heard our party name called and were hustled immediately to a booth, and the place was JAMMIN'. I didn't expect the service to be about much, but our waitress got us situated with coffee and O.J. pretty quickly, while we rummaged over the medium-vast menu to try and decide what to go with.

I knew this was the LAST place I wanted to destroy my diet, so I led with my chin...and a big bowl of the Old Fashioned Oatmeal (a good choice as it turned out) with all the fixin's.  I followed that up with the Chocolate Chip Pancakes and a side order of sausage and hash browns. Everything came in pretty short order, and was as delicious (and generously portioned) as we'd hoped for...so much so, that I couldn't finish it all, (and unfortunately not having anywhere back in the room to keep it, meant that we couldn't take any doggie bags back with us. The GOOD news is that we couldn't bring back any baked stuff, either!)

So just from a casual tourist's POV, to recap: great breakfast, a tad overpriced tchotchkes (unless you do have the extra money to blow on a $50 Apple Farms sweatshirt), and great goodies - if you plan on scarfing them down soon after purchase, or you're local to SLO and can just take them home with you.

Good thing for highway signs and it helps if the place is just right off the Hwy 101.  Stopped by their baked shop.  I can just eat everything in their display case.  Apple pie ($12)-Big Yum, lots of chunky apples.  "Everything" bar with coconut, Macademia nut, walnut, chocolate bar.  The Lemon bar looked good too!  The gift shop had everything, but the products were from Maine.  How strange not to showcase California products.  They have Vera Bradley purses, again why can't they showcase California products.  Plenty of parking.  Nice cottages in the back.

Restaurant review:  We were lucky to be seated up in the round room, with windows all around.  I would request being seated there if we go again.  My family had the turkey dinners and a veggie burger, which they said were excellent with large portions.  My French Dip was so-so.  Not much flavor.  I was hoping for the taste of the excellent local beef, but it didn't have much flavor.  The dinner salad was huge.  The service was excellent.  My party also loved the gift shop.

We've been fans of the Apple Farm for more than a decade.

Our raving faves are the Country Pot Roast...the Butter Nut Squash ravioli...The Reuben sandwich...and the macaroni & cheese is like a loving, warm hug from your mother.

For dessert...a red-velvet cheesecake that is creamy and delicious!!!

Thank you Apple Farm! We got married in SLO this last weekend and had a huge group stay with you including us and you guys WERE SO AWESOME!!!! The front desk was so on top of everything! Anything I needed help with they were right there. I have been working with their guest reservation staff for almost a year and they also will do anything to help.
I stayed my pre wedding nights in the Millroom...AMAZING!! Beautiful. And our honeymoon suite was even more beautiful. We will always come back to the Apple Farm....if not just for the cookies and apple cider at 7pm in the lobby :o)

Had breakfast here, would say the food compares to a Denny's but a really nice bakery and it is a real destination style breakfast establishment. Large portions so beware :-)

My husband and I have been coming here for over a decade. While it isn't a fancy joint, it as as charming as it gets. My favorite time of the year to come is during the holidays. The hotel, shops and the restaurant is decorated beautifully with everything Christmas and it just makes me giddy.

If you love to decorate for the holidays and pick up holiday treasures, this is a place you must visit. I'll walk through the hotel and its' hallways to seek out anything and everything. I ALWAYS find something. If you plan your visit after the holidays, you will find the bargain of a lifetime. 50-75% off.  I can't tell you how many great things I've found over the years.

The hot apple cider they serve in the morning and evenings is the best! I love the Apple Farm and look forward to continuing to come here in the future.

Hints. Stay in the main hotel and not the trellis court. While the restaurant is enticing, the food is just ok. Nothing special. There are plenty of great restaurants that are much better so if you decide to skip, you're not missing out.

This review is for the restaurant.

Lets start with the staff.  We made a reservation, because we were on a time table, and we showed up early. They put us on the WAITING LIST???? when we checked in at the desk. REALLY?!?!?! The waiting list?!?!? Why the hell did we make a reservation?  When they finally called us we went to the table in the gazebo shaped room and sat down.
The floors were filthy and looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in days and we were sitting next to the server station where we heard dishes clanking through the entire meal.

Someone recommended this place as having FABULOUS food.
That was one hell of a stretch, the menu prices were high and the food quality was shit.  $27.95 for a new york strip steak with chipotle butter AND THEY FORGET THE CHIPOTLE BUTTER??? The food was priced at Ruth's Chris steakhouse prices but we got Denny's quality. What a freaking dump.  I should have known we were in for trouble when I noticed that the gift shop was bigger that the restaurant.

If you want to visit a tourist trap with bad food, have at it. If you value peoples reviews on Yelp do yourself a favor and travel farther down Monterey and get a FREAKING AWESOME bowl of clam chowder at Splash (right next door to le petite soleil bed and breakfast.

The hotel is simply charming and gets a 5-star.  And the entire place was spotless.  Parking was more than adequate; we parked directly outside ofalsef our room.  The staff was unfailingly friendly and inviting.  The afternoon wine tasting included an assortment of munchies (cookie type), apple cider, coffee, tea, red & white wine.  All you can eat/drink.  Served outside on the upstairs veranda.  Very nice.  The woman overseeing it was the best!

Although it frustrates me that folks confuse their reviews by combining the hotel and the restaurant, I will add that we did have breakfast at the Inn and the Belgian waffles were perfect.

The hotel gift shop is also pretty extensive and has an interesting assortment of 'stuff'.  I thought their prices were actually pretty reasonable.
