In answer to some queries about "what is all the hype about, i don't see it":  you don't have to.  The hype is probably about lots of different things, but at the end of the day, Apizza Scholls puts out a pie that is different than any other pie in Portland.  Hence, people wanting said pie have to wait; like it or not.

http://en.wikipedia.or...

One of the more notable joints in Brooklyn, Di Fara Pizza is screwy as well.  Only Mr Di Fara is allowed to touch the pizza (whilst cooking), the slice price is waaaay too high, and people ask "what's all the hype about".

The hype is that he is unique.  When Di Fara is gone there will never be another one.  People will surely make pies like him.  However much like they can't recreate my Nona's Gnocchi alla sorrentina, no one can reproduce a truly unique dish.  That, would be the hype, at least for this poor soul.

They TOTALLY deserve their awesome reputation.  Though the wait is long, the efficiency and speed of the servers makes up for the wait time.

I think the best way to describe this place is "simple."  They take some basic fresh ingredients and simple ideas to create magic.  Magic that comes in large portions made to feed ImHans.

I went with a buddy who's not only a chef but was born and raised in the burroughs of NYC before moving to P-Town eleven years ago.  Whenever the topic of "good, New York-style pizza" comes into conversation, his opinion certainly matters to me.  In fact, in spite of the myriad positive reviews not only this site but also from word of mouth, I'd stayed away from Apizza Scholls until I learned that, not only has he gone there before and enjoyed the food, he's gone back several times. So, when he told me he was going for another return visit, I latched on to him like a leech on a fresh, open wound.

Um, sorry about that analogy.

I looked at the menu online so that I could familiarize myself with the offerings.  Many things looked tasty, but I knew that ultimately I was going to let him guide our order.  After all, he should know what he's doing.  Thankfully, what we ended up ordering-- half New York White Pie and half Sausage Pie-- were two of the flavors that I'd found enticing while reviewing the menu earlier in the day.

Our selection did not disappoint.  The ricotta on the White pie offered a surprisingly welcome new texture to an otherwise "normal cheese pie."  The housemade sausage was meaty deliciousness-- just the right amount of spice tempered with the whole-milk mozzarella and pecorino romano cheeses.  And the darn thing was huge!  Two slices in and my fullness meter was already on the red, but I forged on and finished another slice before relinquishing the fourth.

I probably should've saved space in my stomach by foregoing the Meat Plate and holding off on that second pint of beer had I known the pizza was going to be that good.

Alas, I'll simply have to come back.

I came with the expectation that this pizza was superior to Tom Douglas' Serious Pie in Seattle. At least that's what I was told... so maybe they were set too high..but either way I am only giving their pizza 4 stars because I have in fact had better at Serious. The size of a regular pizza is huge, each slice is the equivalent of two average slices of pizza. The pizza was very very good, but I felt like the crust was slightly lacking something.. who knows what. We got half Truffle oil and pepperoni, with Pizza Amore on the other half- "margo-rita" base, basil and capicollo. Service was good, but I felt a little rushed to get out of the seat so they could race the next customer through. We got asked if we wanted our pizza boxed up 3 times..so even though we were not really done, we decided it was time to go. I am a fan of the cornmeal, my bf is not.. so 4 stars.. to each his own :)

I guess Anthony B. went here in his Pacific Northwest episode (the only episode split up between two cities--shame on you Tony!).

It was really good, maybe not "I sold my car so I could afford to keep eating here" good, but really good.  If you order a salad and apps and drinks and pizza the small-ish tables can get really cramped.

Awesome! I went on a Friday night around 6:30. We had about a half hour wait, but other than that, it was great! We ordered some beers, a ceaser salad, the meat antipasti plate, the NY White Pizza, and I think the mozzeralla, basil and tomato..all very good! We had 4 people, the bill was about $90.00. I would go back, but maybe drink at home first. :)

Apizza Scholls just makes me smile.

I was prepared to wait when we went so that didn't come off as much of a shocker and honestly, once I tasted the pizza, I understood the line.

It was a baconey/peppery/cheesy party in my mouth!

I'm admittedly the worst vegetarian ever as I still cannot get over putting bacon on things. I try so hard, and usually all it takes is looking at the meat and I'll be sufficiently grossed out, but the full slices of bacon on the pizza we had were screaming "SCREW THE VEGETABLES!"

It's a place with wonderful thin crusted specialty pizzas and from what I could tell, pretty chill clientele. We ended up with two seats at the bar which was really cool as it made for good conversations.  Parking wasn't a big deal either, we just hit up a side street and took a walk because god knows that walk was needed after dinner!

I'm definitely looking forward to coming back here on my next trip to Portland!

I am one of the few people with whom this experience does not resonate.  After waiting forever which is what I expected my group (5 people) ordered several pies.  Now I don't like my pizza dripping with toppings but i do like some.  And my favorite slices are found in NYC or many other East Coast cities.  So it isn't as if I have no frame of reference.

Our pizzas were all very cracker-like and burnt.  This is my opinion and I was the only one in the group not raving about how wonderful the Blanca and Margorita pizzas were.  Just not my cup of tea.  i will not go back but wish them continued success.

Really good pizza. Crunchy, but also chewy; not soggy, not even in the middle (and this was on a Sunday just after opening). Very good flavor. In SF, the closest thing to NY style is Amici's, but that's reliably soggy, even though it's otherwise good. Forget Arinell's, that's crap pizza. And if you read my other reviews, I have eaten lots of pizza in NYC too (one of my faves is Angelo's on W57th). Apizza Scholls tops anything I've had on the west coast. Best pizza I've had in a long time (this is in particular the sausage/pepper classic combo). And really, it's a pizza joint, how can you complain about the service (c.f. a previous post)? If they take your order and bring you a pizza, that's all I need!

It's not like one more review is going to change things, but I have to say something else here. They are now open 7 days/week. Goodie!  It stretches out the crowds, less of a wait, etc.  But I feel like the quality has gone down a bit. Not sure if Brian is still making the pies back there on sundays and mondays, but we've gone three times on a Monday since they changed the hours, and each time the pie was sub par.  Flavors were still good, but they were SO SOGGY in the middle. I don't want to pick up my pizza and have half of it droop down and the toppings slide off. And yes, this is on their standard pies (sausage/peppers or apizza amore), I'm not making up my own here.  Such a bummer. Even reheating the leftovers in an oven can't crisp it up enough.

when I'm paying $60 (with tip) for a pizza, a salad, and a couple drinks, I expect a lot more.

Pizza Perfection!
This is the way that pizza is supposed to be. What else can I say about this awesome place that hasn't been said before. I agree with previous reviewers, totally worth the wait. The house made sausage is terrific! The pies are works of art. The service is okay, and it doesn't even matter, the pizza is that good.

Sorry guys, just not feeling this.

It's well established that the wait is long, so no surprises there and I won't complain about that.  I'm used to waiting for good food in SE.

We (my wife and I) accepted the hosts offer for bar seating after about 45 mins or so.  Could've waited a bit longer for a table but we were HUNGRY.

Of course it is worth noting you can't see the bar from the larger seating area where everyone waits.

When we got to our seats (bar stools with no back supports - typical for bar seating but always a little irritating) we couldn't help but notice the not-so-pleasant view of the kitchen.  Now, don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy looking into a nice kitchen in a restaurant - watching the crew in action.  That's all cool.  But that's not what we're talking about here.  The only thing you could see from our vantage point was the dishwasher spraying-scrubbing-sweating away like a mad man.  I know such work needs to be done and that's all good, I just shouldn't have to watch it before/during my meal.

And no, the "dish dragon" apron on the wall didn't do anything to improve the ambiance.  Those who have seen it will know what I'm talking about.  The crazy part about this whole thing is that these guys could spend about $12.00 at Target to put up some kind of cloth barrier or hippie beads or SOMETHING to obstruct this view through the doorway.

Anyway, the pizza on its own merit might have earned 2-3 stars.  It would be untruthful not to say that this rating might have been influenced in part by inflated expectations - I've heard rave reviews on here and person to person.

Long story longer, we eat all but two slices of our pizza.  Once it's clear that we're through eating, the host comes over and says "want me to wrap this up for you"?  We said no.  We were full, didn't think the pizza was THAT great and just didn't want to deal with tossing pizza that had gone bad after sitting in our fridge for a week.  The guy looked at us like we had 3 eyes and walked away...

We figured OK, maybe it's rare for folks not to take leftovers and he was just surprised....No big deal.  Well then one of the servers comes over and says "ready for a wrap?".  We politely tell her that we won't be taking the remaining pieces with us and I swear to you that she literally jumped away from the counter like we had the plague!

So she takes our CC for payment, runs it and walks back into the kitchen (which you will remember we were very close to) and announces "those guys don't want a wrap!" to the whole crew, all of whom proceed to burst out in laughter, right in front of us.  Now we've officially gone from strange to downright awkward (even the couple next to us looked uncomfortable).  Needless to say we wasted no time making our exit.

All in all the amount of time we waited and the money we spent left us sorely disappointed (if you didn't already get that impression).

Oh well, see you at Ken's I guess...

LOVE this place. LOVE IT.

This is pizza at its best. The fresh toppings and wonderfully made crust make it perfect. My personal favorite is the Pizza Amore (traditional margherita with pork shoulder) - Yum!

I love the Caesar salad too - very light on the dressing. Like their pizza the salads are huge so be sure to split.

The beer selection rocks too!

I brought my parents here when they were in town visiting and even my Dad, who is one of the toughest pizza critics I knew, loved it here.

I am willing to wait through the long waits anytime to eat here.

I just got rocked by another pie from Apizza Scholls last night, and I must say, it was even better than last time.

We showed up at around 6:30pm, and it was perfect timing for a party of 2. The initial rush crowd was turning, and the second crowd was just showing up. We grabbed some cold brews and some quarters for video games, and we posted up at the Galaga machine to wait for our table. Not even done with our first game, the hostess offered us a couple of spots at the bar next door. Wow, that was fast!

My bro and I split a pie, half pep/sausage/onion, and half cappocolla/basil/garlic. The pie took a while (as a fresh-made pie should), and with each pie that passed out of the kitchen and on to a nearby table, our anticipation grew.

When ours arrived, we dug in. The half with cappocolla, basil and garlic had a subtle but deep flavor. The crust was crisped to perfection (well done), the sauce was nice and spicy, and the cured pork and basil went quite well together.

But that half was completely overshadowed by the pep/sausage/onion side, which had both of us speechless. We sat there, moaning and groaning as we consumed what is the downright best pizza I've had in ages.

The whole time, our super friendly and on-point servers were making sure we had full beers, and were checking in to ensure that everything with the pie was ok. In fact, they even made sure that we worked out our order so that we saved a dollar on our 'za. Great service all around.

We had our awesome server wrap up the 2 remaining slices of pie so that we didn't simply indulge in them and grossly over-eat. Yes, one pie was way more than enough for 2 big dudes.

Overall, the experience slapped me across the face and made me wonder why I have been settling for lesser pizza over the past year. This pizza (in my humble opinion) is in a completely different class from the easier, more convenient options (Flying Pie, It's a Beautiful, or the chains). It's not even trying to be the same thing.

We reheated our 2 slices later in the night, and they were a-mighty good late night meal. The only down-side? I didn't get to eat them for breakfast this morning.

Some words to the wise:

1. This is a place that serves up amazingly delicious pizzas from a menu. There is a 'make your own' option, but they limit the number of meats you can have on one pie (2 meats) and the number of toppings (3 overall). If you want some sort of "meat lover's" or pig-out pie, head elsewhere.

2. The crust here is phenomenal, and it's super thin and crispy. If you want bready or spongy crust, go elsewhere.

3. This is not your average, old-style, take-the-baseball-team-to-pizza-after-the-game type of place. It's just not, no matter how much you want it to be. In fact, the less people in your party, the quicker you'll be eating.

4. They serve what they serve. Getting mad at the waitstaff for denying your request to have 10 meats on a deep dish pizza is not fair. Do you get mad at the Ruth's Chris server who won't serve you a Big Mac instead of their house burger? Maybe you do. I don't know. It's still not fair. The staff here is super nice and fun, and 100% on their game. Don't be mean because you're hungry or you want them to be what they are not.

Knowing is half the battle. Yes, there will be a wait (but they have 2 video game machines and they'll serve you drinks while you wait). Yes, when they run out of dough, they're done. Yes, they have some restrictions on the menu. No, just because it costs $24 a pie doesn't mean that they're going to change their policies just for you. There's 100 people waiting for your spot that will gladly pay to play by their rules. If you can't handle these things, be warned. If you can, you're in for a treat.

All those warnings aside, if this is the kind of pizza you're looking for (thin perfect crust, well-done crispiness, great spicy sauce, high quality aged and fresh mozz, and great fresh toppings), then you'll be in heaven.

Apizza Scholls definately lived up to the high expectations we had after hearing about it through friends...and seeing it featured on the Portland episode of No Reservations.

We showed up at about 6:45 on a Friday and waited about an hour for a table for 2 - which was less than we expected.  And the wait was fine, as we were able to grab a couple beers from the bar while we waited.  I was impressed by the beer selections, as there was something for everyone.  You can't go wrong with Terminal Gravity IPA on tap.

We ordered one of the night's specials - which was one of their pizzas on the menu (I forgot the name, but it was an awesome bacon and garlic pie) with fresh tomato added.  It was an awesome pizza.  I'm sure the regular menu version is good, but the fresh tomato put it over the top.

You have to appreciate a place that limits the number of ingredients you can put on a pizza.  The quality here is top notch.  Well worth the price, as our bill was very reasonable.

I can't believe we finished 60% of this super-huge pizza. Our appetites are fairly small, and yet, we managed too

The wait time was 30+ mins or so, which was OK.

You might end up sharing tables with someone, as this place is really crowded.

The pizza crust was really good.. The toppings are amazing!

When the pizza arrived, we were literally staring at it for 2 mins! It was that huge.

We took some of it back to our hotel, and finished most of it the next day. Amazing part, it tasted very good even without us heating it the next day! (Maybe we were just bowled over)

We went to this place BECAUSE of the hype and it was terrible.

No atmosphere.

No topping options. 2-3 and that was it.

Long wait. No bar stools at the bar to relax on during the horrendous wait.

Pizza was spendy and mediocre, at best.

Completely disappointed and shocked by how this place proved to be all talk and no action. I was embarrassed to have dragged our out of town guests to this place to wait forever and not have it be worth it. A few days later, we went to Papa Murphy's and it was 10 times better with no hassle.

Aaaah, and so the question: Ken's or Apizza? It had been a while since I'd been to Apizza Scholls, and I've recently been to Ken's several times, so I found myself contemplating this question as I sat down to order at Apizza recently. And by meal's end, sated with New York White and sausage pizza, I concluded that it's really an apples and oranges comparison. Ken's pizza emphasis is in the title: artisan. The ingredients are a little more exotic, the pizza a tad more subtle. Apizza Scholls, in contrast, offers a really excellent version of a more traditional pizza; more standard toppings, more cheese. A little heartier, in general.
I love both places. My advice: if you are super hungry and craving a pizza's pizza, go to Apizza Scholls. If you are feeling fancy and refined and want a more exotic pizza, go to Ken's. Both are first rate.

It's a perfect thin-crust pie, end of story. (But since I have a tendency to go on and on, of course it's not really. The end of the story, that is.)

Though a meat lover, the marguerite is our favorite, showcasing the thin smear of balanced sauce, full flavored but spare cheese and fragrant basil. Last night we had the sausage & pepper as well, which was excellent...better than the marg. with capicola that we've had on other occasions. And I'm not a fan of the tartufo...or the whole white pizza thing.

I loves me a good cheap, gooey, cheesy, sweet-sauce-squirting American pizza, but this isn't that. It's harder to obtain (pricy, usually a 30-minute wait) and it's worth every minute / penny when nothing but a crisp and chewy, bubbled, salty, tangy taste of Italy will do.

The slim beer tap selection and "fine" salads don't stand up to the miraculousness of the pizza, and sitting in the deafening "addition" is a special little slice of hell, but one bite in and all is forgiven.

I LOVE Apizza Scholls!!!!!!! It is by far the best pizza that I have ever had and I do not say that lightly. I'm from Chicago, so Lou Malnati's deep dish was where might heart had been for many years until I concurred the Tartufo Bianco pizza. Delicious. I usually get 1/2 Tartufo and 1/2 peppers and onions(They use Mamma Lil's). I have even considered having Apizza Scholls cater my wedding, I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!

If you're driving down Hawthorne and wondering where Apizza Scholls is around 4:30 pm on a weekday...just look for the storefront with with the line forming outside.  Yea, the one where you're wondering why people are standing...outside...rain or shine...waiting for this place to open.

Why the line?  Maybe because they don't allow call in to-go orders, and once they run out of dough..you are out of luck.  With all this hoopla, I wish I loved the pizza more. Keeping it simple is definitely  the way to go so you can appreciate the cheese and crust.  This isn't the spot for all you deep dish, meat loving, my pizza toppings outweigh your mom kinda fans out there. ( In some ways I'd consider this place the opposite of Flying Pie).

I'm a fan of simple pie and their crust and baking method which has attributed to their fame does live up to standards...but I prefer my tomato sauce on the sweeter side and maybe that's where my disappointment lies.

Pies are a bit on the spendy side but large enough to split amongst friends.  This is the only place I've been to where I've seen a table of 4 people order 3 pies.  Last time I was there, we managed to snag a couple of seats on the bar side, bypassing the wait. :)

As a frequent visitor for fifty years, it's nice finally to have the opportunity to eat Pizza of this quality at so many places on the West coast. This is really decent American Pizza. Now let's see if you can make Italian Pizza in Portland as they do at Pizzaiolo in Oakland, Ca., and sometimes in NY.

The dough is more subtle, the cheese fresh, and must never be browned, and, obviously, leave the Pineapple at Dominos.

Good Luck!

Incidentally, we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.

Best pizza EVER!  We dropped in on a Thursday night, had to wait about an hour.  This place is popular, so no surprise there.  We had the Apizza 'Margo'rita (Yum!) and the Tartufo Bianco (drizzled with truffle oil!) There were 4 of us vs. 2 Pizzas....there were lot's o' leftovers. They are also willing to do half and half pizzas, so everybody can get what they want.  Love this place!

These guys do not need another review.  And I write this with hesitation, but since they expanded I figured the cat is already out of the bag.  The pizza here is delicious - it is rad.  Downside is that there is almost always a crowd and you have to show up early to ensure your dinner - because when they are out of dough, you are out of luck.

Pizza has a very thin and charred crust, but not so thin that it is like a cracker, it some how manages to keep a chewy consistency.  Toppings are fairly minimal, but that just lets you taste all of the individual ingredients.  The pizza is cooked at a very high heat very quickly, so you cannot order too many toppings or it screws with the cooking time.  That is why some people call these guys pizza-Nazis since they limit the number and type of toppings on a pizza.  But trust them because they are the experts and they know their pizza.

Ahhhh. Do you guys fedex to Seattle?!
First, the pie was great. We did a 50/50 Tartufo and Sausage Pepper. I'll concur with a previous poster that they went a shade overboard with the truffle oil (good but a full slice was more than enough!) but the Sausage Pepper more than compensated!!
That said, they had me at the Caesar Salad...!! Homemade dressing, whole leaf romaine, amazing croutons and, yes, the option for anchovies! (Seriously, calling a Caesar without anchovies a Caesar is like calling Kraft Singles cheese!)
if they're out of dough when you get there, order 5 caesars, be happy they won't settle for serving you inferior crap, and try again tomorrow!

We went on a Thursday at 5pm and there was surprisingly no line. We had a 1/2 Pizza Amore 1/2 Tartufo. The Pizza Amore was pretty good, but I've had lot's of  pretty good pizza. It was not mind blowing. The Tartufo was drenched in truffle oil... enough to turn me off of truffles for a while. Perhaps we got a bad pie... or perhaps since we didn't have to wait in line, we didn't have get the oh my god it must be special flavor effect.

We did go to the PSU farmer's market later and had a slice of bacon and fennel pizza that blew this place away.

Nice people though...

I find myself mystified about how people can rate Apizza Scholls at anything less than 5 Stars.   Really?

As I ate there the other night, I found myself wondering.  How could I possibly improve on this pizza?  It seems literally impossible.  Perfectly chewy, flavorful crust, sauce a perfect harmony of bright garlic and tomato flavors, fresh, milky-tasting cheese, extremely high quality sausage, I could go on and on.  This pizza will make you want to run out and slap somebody.

Great beer selection, a small but totally appropriate wine list, superb salads.

The wait?  You'll survive. Think about Darfur.  Relax, have a beer.
Too many Portland hipsters?  Sorry, you're in Portland, not the Marina.
Think truffle oil is gross?  Don't order that pizza.

The pizza of Apizza Scholls is one of my favorite things about being a human being.

I am sad that I may never do anything as well as these people make pizza.

Maybe I'm just not snobby enough about my pizza, but I didn't see what the big deal was. Yeah, it was good, but by the time we got to sit down I was so drunk (we had time to share 3 pitchers), I'm sure Papa John's would have done just fine.

Personally I give the whole thing a big, fat MEH. Unless you get in on a quiet night, it's not worth the trouble.

Before you go to this place for some truly delicious pizza there needs to be a few things to take into account.

Come before you are hungry.  Sounds odd, yes.  But more than likely you're going to be in for a wait.  (we waited about two hours to be seated)  If you come hungry you are just going to get more and more angry with the folks who have already finished their meal but are taking their sweet ass time in leaving.  (oh the nerve.)

Come with patience.  If you don't feel like waiting for your dinner that night, then go somewhere else.  If you get here and start getting fidgety after 45 minutes, it's going to sour your whole experience, and you will be a hater.  Enjoy one of the great Portland beers while you're waiting and bring some quarters.  (they have Donkey Kong and Ms. Pacman)

Finally, be ready to spend some money on pizza.  I'd suggest ordering two or even more if you have a big group.  This way you have variety of taste and leftovers for a little bit.  Because frankly, after waiting such a long time for pizza, it will be a minute before you'll be back.

I've never waited so long for a pizza in my life, but it was really, really good.

They're all good, but my top pies at Scholls are:

Pizza Amore - Our personal favorite

Tartufo - a white cheese and truffle base for the adventurous vegetarian (the last one we ordered vanished with a large crowd of omnivores)

Sausage and Peppers

Bacon isn't bad, but it's hit or miss on who likes it. The Bacon Bianca is something I can appreciate and love, but beauty is in the beholder. I saw a couple walk away after only eating two slices of it murmuring something about why they had come in. Try the staples first if its your first time, give your palatte something to compare it to. Regular pizza will never satisfy you again.

Ceteris paribus this place would be my favorite pizza place. It tastes amazing.

However, all things are never equal, and the complete hassle involved with this place and the attitude of the owners brings this down: Waiting, hours, rules, restrictions, blah blah.

It's great that you love what you do, good for you. It would be nice if you started loving your customers too.

apizza scholls is kind of a haul from downtown portland but it's worth the trip, not only for the fantastic pizza but the cute neighborhood. we jumped on the hawthorne bus which took us straight there.  it was one of the most enjoyable bus rides ever, headphones in, past vintage shops and outdoor cafes, and views of dark, piney mountains.  riding on that bus at rush hour i can understand how everyone in portland seems to be happy.

we had to wait a bit to get a seat and were slightly disappointed to learn that the outdoor patio was closed (damn you, anthony bourdain) but you can't complain about this pizza. it's crispy and perfect, and finally, somebody got the pineapple and ham combo right.

OK, I believe the hype.  The wait was epic (over an hour) but was definitely worth it.

These pizzas are fantastic.  We had the Apizza Amore (Margarita plus hot capicollo), and the Bacon Bianco (a white pie with smoky bacon and garlic).
Both were superb.  The real deal-sealer was the crust.  Unbelievably perfect, crisp, light, and yet still slightly chewy at the edge--beautiful!  The service was adequate, the wait long, the setting fine...it's the pizza that makes this a five star place.  For those who love a great thin crust pie, don't miss this place.

My favorite pizza in Portland(so far) Every pizza I have had has been excellent. The crust is crisp and chewy,LOVE it. I like the Ceasar salad also. Felt the lady serving us wasn't all that pleasant but who cares with this pizza. Would get 5 stars except for service

I am writing this review on a full stomach and fear I might pass out into a food coma.  Better start typing a bit faster.

Apizza Scholls is the real deal.  I consider myself somewhat of an expert on pizza having grown up on the east coast around what I think is some of the best pizza, at least in this country, in the NY/NJ area.  This is rather simple pizza, which is a good thing.  Some places overdue it on the toppings.  Here, you can only get so much on your pie.

We went for my friends birthday and ordered the Apizza 'Margo'rita (Tomato sauce, mozzarella (whole milk & fresh), pecorino romano, fresh garlic, extra virgin olive oil, fresh basil) and the Apizza Amore ('Margo'rita plus capicollo:  cured pork shoulder).  Guess we could have been better at mixing it up, but that will have to happen the next time.  What goes better with pizza than beer?  Nothing, that's what.  I had a Double Mountain (Hood River, OR) Alpenbrew which is an ESB.

All of the dough at Apizza Scholls is mixed completely by hand (who else does that?) and allowed to sit and ferment for over 24 hours.  It doesn't quite take that long for the pizza to reach the table, but it does take time.  Be patient.  It will be worth it.

Our pizza's came to the table and boy did they look good.  Thin crust, a good amount of toppings and sauce make for an honest to goodness slice.  Good times.

This place probably deserves a 5 star rating.  What I don't like about it is you have to start waiting in line to get in at 4:30 (they open at 5  Tues-Sat).  When they run out of dough, which happens, they close.  They also don't do pies to go.  These are minor irritants and ones I can get over.  They shouldn't change for me.  Nobody should change for me.  Thank you.
