i don't go here for the hibachi, but get sushi take out quite often, and it is good.

also like the tatsata age appetizer, ginger flavored fried chicken.

The hibachi is awesome! We had Jason and he was hilarious. Teriyaki steak was really good and the way they cook their rice and vegetables made them so delicious. Comes with shrimp appetizer, onion soup and salad with ginger sauce and those were all good. My boyfriend ha the Aoyama Special that came with scallops, steak and lobster tail. Amazing! Drinks were good, service excellent and delicious food! Can't wait to go back!

I really do love this place. The sushi is always fresh and super tasty (and quick!) the staff is friendly and the order is always right. I probably eat here twice a month, I love the generous portions on the sushi, price is just right, the place is clean and pretty. I'm pregnant now and asked them to cook the tuna in my spicy tuna rolls, no one was weird about it thankfully haha! The only bummer is that they are closed on Tuesdays which I always forget!

Came back last night and it was even better than my previous visit!  We had Lee at the grill and he's just awesome. I can swear that we got twice as much food as our last visit because I couldnt clean my plate! Another plus is the bartender's heavy hand...

There's no reason for you to not make the trip to Marshfield and it's worth every penny. Ask for Lee and have a great night!

    I couldn't agree more Kate.

FINALLY Marshfield gets blessed with an amazing Japanese Steakhouse, dare I say, to rival any Japanese I've had in Boston. *Aoyama is sort of hidden in Webster Square in the center of Marshfield, but it is so worth the trip!* The hibachi-style experience is totally delicious, with really fresh ingredients, and it's completely entertaining. I've been here on numerous occasions, and enjoyed the steak, chicken and shrimp options with delicious made-to-order fried rice. Yummy yummy.

As great as the hibachi meals are, the sushi is what I keep coming back for. It is always crazy fresh, and completely delectable. So, so delicious. It's just really nice to have a great place for sushi here in Marshvegas. *Awww man, now I'm craving some spicy tuna! Dang!*

The service is great here, too... always very friendly and accomodating.

Oh, and they also serve Chinese/American apps, if you're not up for the AMAZING sushi or hibachi *the usuals*, so literally everyone in your group will be happy *if, like me, you get some not-too-adventurous diners with you*.

*Aww, now I'm thinking about the miso soup...*

    Aoyama is AO-K!

I eat here often - The new Hot Pot menu combines fresh meat and veggies with a delicious boiling broth. The Sushi is creative and delicious. My favorite part of Aoyama is the Hibachi Steak Dinners. The chefs are entertaining and the food is incredible.

    Highly recommended!

Run away.  Went for lunch on a Wednesday.  Upon entering the vestibule, I was greeted with what arguably was the most dirt encrusted oriental rug I've ever witnessed (see photo).  I almost ran out then, but was greeted by a very eager hostess who obviously was ready to burst with delight with a live one at the door.  While it is nice to have a quiet meal, I was the only diner in the restaurant and was allowed to wallow in my trepidation.  The walls next to my table were filthy and needed a brillo pad (see photo).  I had two rolls and the nori was extremely chewy (meaning stale).  I did not finish them.  The soy sauce was funny tasting.  The hostess and waitress were very nice.  I wish I could say something better about this place, as we need a good sushi restaurant on the South Shore.  But, Aoyama unfortunately isn't going to be it.

i love this place! finally a little something for marshfield center..
i'm a baby sushi eater pretty much, no raw fish for me, but i love everything else about aoyama.  the habachi is fun the first few times, but sitting at a table is just as nice.  make sure to get the fried rice if you do sit at the habachi though.  make reservations (even if you are going with a small party) for a habachi table on the weekends, it gets really busy.
everyone that i have ever eaten here with loves the sushi and it does look good.  the regular menu has a good variety.. i have had the tempura a few times and it was good.
lunches are great and really cheap, im a huge bento box fan.
the only negative thing i have to say is, the decor is BORING..the habachi side is fine, but i think the regular four top tables in the narrow section of the restaurant are lacking.
overall, i really really like it here.

I've only had the sushi here so I can't comment on any of their other food items. The sushi was surprisingly decent. It is not good enough for experienced sushi lovers (don't expect O Ya level greatness) but will satisfy those who are beginners. Not much for ambience but the service is fine for what it is. I have never seen this place busy but we also have not tried to go on Friday or Saturday dinner times. I wouldn't rush to come here but they do satisfy my sushi cravings which are very tough to fulfill in this area. Three stars for that, I guess.

Aoyama Shabu Shabu - It was on March 11, 2011 when we returned to Aoyama for shabu shabu but I have not been able to figure out what to say about the meal.  In my first review, after eating at their hibachi table, Aoyama got a five star review.  As with their hibachi dinner, the shabu shabu ingredients were excellent, day market fresh.  However, we were hoping to have a Japanese style meal.  The restaurant is owned and operated by Chinese, all extremely nice people.  Surprisingly the shabu shabu was served in the ancient hot pot tradition of the Chinese.  They have a deep pan, divided into two sections, that nests above a sunken hot plate beneath the surface of the table.  Three flavored broths are offered of which you choose two.  We choose the onion and Szechuan flavors.  Szechuan is a province in southwestern China famous for spicy hot cuisine.  The broth had so much peppercorn and spicy herbs that gulping water did nothing to ease the burn in our throats.  The spicy hot broth overwhelmed the food.

Japan did not popularize their variation of the hot pot until the late 20th century.  When the Japanese adopted this style of "cooking your own food at the table" they modified the meal in such a distinctive way that it does not resemble the Chinese style.  In Korea the hot pot style was also adopted to their unique style.  Each country is vastly different from each other.

Aoyama failed to use the correct ingredients for the Japanese style: black mushrooms, shitake mushrooms, clear noodles (harusame), squares of tofu, dried bonito flakes, chrysanthemum leaves (shungiku), seaweed (dashi kombu), leeks, and two sauces called ponshabu with soy and sesame flavors for dipping.  The cooking is done in a shallow fry pan filled with clear water.  Typically the flower leaves are substituted with spinach in the U.S.  The kombu is used in the cool water at the beginning.  The water is brought to a slow boil and the kombu is removed.  Using chopsticks, the diner swishes each ingredient through the shallow hot broth until cooked.  What Aoyama presented was very different from the traditional Japanese shabu sahbu.  We did not enjoy the meal.  We were disappointed that Aoyama, which promotes itself as a Japanese restaurant, used few of the techniques and foods used in Japan to make shabu shabu.  I have been told that ShabuZen in Boston, also operated by Chinese, does a good presentation of the Japanese style.

    Good Sushi but bring earplugs

If you don't mind shouting into the ear of your dinner companions, then you won't mind this incredibly loud restaurant. With no soft materials in sight to absorb sounds, the clanging of the hibachi chefs, raised voices to talk over those same Hibachi chefs, whining children and the general buzz of nearby diners this place left me hoarse from shouting to be heard, and a throbbing migraine. As a person without kids, I have observed that parents seem to develop an immunity to the noise generated by their little darlings. I had a particularly obnoxious kid at our hibachi table who's long suffering divorced mom's personal dating history was extolled to all at the table by the kid, while the chef banged away with knife and spatula. I felt sorry for the mother, who obviously had been looking forward to a night out here as the highlight of her week.  Had I known her in advance of the evening, I might have offered to pay for her babysitter to leave the brat home. This is one of the downsides to being seated at group tables with strangers. Sometimes you meet nice people, but it's a crap shoot.
I thought that the sushi here was above average, but the old school "Benihana style" hibachi cooking that was new in the 1970's although tasty, is an old trick we've seen before and hasn't been updated since the Jimmy Carter administration.  If you weren't alive back then I suppose it's new to you, but if you were, then it's a trip down memory lane to the disco era of platform shoes and bell bottoms.  BTW,  on a multi city tour of Japan recently, this type of "Hibachi" restaurant was nowhere to be seen. I believe it's an American invention like chop suey. Downtown Marshfield, which had all the charm of Beirut on a bad day, is undergoing a face lift and more dining choices are welcome additions. I hope to see more attempts at ethnic foods, and a break from the usual formula of "casual family dining" that seems to be repeated endlessly on the south shore.

Aoyama is a great place to try something new. It's entertaining (with the open seating around the skillful chefs) and has a good mix of sushi choices - they are the first place to introduce me to it and now I try it everywhere, although Aoyama's shrimp tempura maki is the best of all I've tried!  A good place to take kids for the entertainment value (if they're willing to try the food).  I will say I had the filet mignon stir fry and I was disappointed that it wasn't more spectacular for the price.  But it has a full bar so it's a great place to meet friends and snack on edamame and maki.

Downtown Marshfield is undergoing incredibly wonderful changes! Nowhere is that more evident than at the hibachi-style restaurant in Webster Square -- the Aoyama Japanese Steakhouse. The location has been the site of several American restaurants, but now that the old bank building has been demolished and you can actually see Aoyama, they have a greater chance of succeeding. Of course, the food is actually great and the staff charming. At lunch the other day, a friend and I were promptly seated at one of the hibachi tables. A young Japanese chef appeared shortly after our order was taken and he proceeded to put on a show for us as he whipped up a batch of Hiroshi Fried Rice -- a delicious blend of egg, fresh vegetables and steamed white rice. I love the concept of someone cooking in front of me. I'm allergic to many common ingredients, like black pepper, and being able to observe the preparation is very calming. The filet mignon was grilled to a true medium rare perfection. Fresh, well-prepared food and kind help have won me over. (Sushi lovers take note: there is an extensive selection of items on both the luncheon and dinner menus!)
