I have a very fond experience at Aoi. This was the location of my bf and my first date many years ago, so I can't help but smile about this place every time I think back to that fateful evening.

The decor of Aoi is sleek and Asian influenced (duh), creating a chill vibe perfect for a romantic, intimate evening. For some reason the bathroom has always stood out in my mind as something I'd love to recreate in my own home.

The sushi was fresh, tightly rolled, and masterfully presented. We ended up ordering way too much food, so I think we would have been better off ordering a combination boat instead. The spicy tuna ($9 of six pieces) and the spider ($10 for six pieces) rolls were my favorites. Though I never saw the bill, my boyfriend later confessed I was his most expensive first date ever. I felt bad at first, but then I just told him to consider it an investment.

Because of this restaurant, I now hesitate to call myself vegetarian.  I mean I'm not gulping down a bloody steak or anything, but I cannot refrain from eating their coconut hawaiian sushi, and while I'm at it, I eat eel, spicy tuna and i'm not even sure what else.  It may be the best sushi I've ever had.

I love the veggie rolls, and we always request a kanpyo avocado roll, which is not on the menu.  But most importantly, do not leave without trying their green tea ice cream and their chocolate cake.  (Yes, I said chocolate cake.  I didn't know it was Japanese either.  These people are TALENTED.)

We brought a new hire there once, and his review will beat anything I can say:  "Wow!  Japanese food makes you feel so alive!"  Of course we made fun of him for saying it, but not as much as we would have if it hadn't been true.  I'm not sure about all Japanese food, but you walk out of Aoi feeling awake.  So unlike the heavy or sweet food you get everywhere else.
