Ok, I'll admit it: I mostly came here out of curiosity to see what type of bar could survive at 6th & Market. The answer? One that's basic yet polished; trendy yet divey...cheap but expensive. Or as Megan W so aptly put it: "you want me to pay what for a drink on 6th and Market?"
Then again, there *are* a lot of reasons to stop in; you could be on your way to a show at Mezzanine or the Golden Gate Theater, or you could just be conspiring with the SFBC folks on their diabolical scheme to hold up Muni, terrorize helpless SUV drivers, and generally tear apart the fabric of American society one bike rack at a time. And while you're pondering the fair market price of a gin and tonic in these parts, you can try to identify those awesome abstractualized city maps on the wall. I could pick out San Francisco, of course, and Detroit, but what's the one with the river running NW-SE through it? It bugged me so much I asked the bartender. His typically San Franciscan response? "We're having an opening for them tomorrow; you can ask the artist himself".
If you get here early enough there is no cover. Their seating area is semi-nice but I found the long-haired bartender here is an UPTIGHT PRICK!
Here are the scenarios (Keep in mind I drink Cognac on the rocks):
1) Me and GF order our drinks my drink is normal/good portion (1.5 shots worth). Great no problem!
2) GF orders second round of drinks by herself, male bartenders flirts with her and he charges $2 LESS and now my drink is 4 shots worth of liquor (nearly full highball cup). Keep in mind I am away from his viewpoint.
3) GF orders another round with me standing behind her. Bartender looks at me, pours the drink and pours the smallest amount of Cognac and tons of ice and charges us the normal amount.
I guess if your GF is standing alone than he is willing to hook it up but if you're a dude he charges you full price with the minimal amount of liquor.
Eff that!
Been here a couple of times and it's a good bar. I usually tend to go out around 11ish and surprisingly every time I've been at this bar it isn't ridiculously packed as I would expect it to be on a Saturday (not complaining because I love bars that are not tooooo crowded).
They do have a mini mini dance floor towards the back where the DJ's play but there is usually room to get your groove on. Overall if you are in the neighborhood - Check this place out! Its a good place to take a date!
eh.. this place is ok... just stumbled in here cuz there weren't any bars around... pretty standard bar. it's cool cuz it's walking distance to the bart... and i don't walk.
A nice aesthetic for a weeknight dancefloor. Highly unpretentious, cozy, but always filled with talented track-work and sexy lighting. The bar in particular, though expensive, is especially pleasing with its high design factor and conversation-friendly seating arrangement.
Why are they asking ten dollars to get in? It's just a dumpy dive bar with a DJ.
I only paid six dollars because someone in my group worked out a discount but I still feel ripped off.
Vertigo and Double Dutch have you beaten in every way and they charge no cover.
Of course my review may be tainted by the fact that I hate Techno because it makes me feel crazy.
I barely finished one beer before I had to leave.
When I want to shake it, I am in it to win it.
I do not want:
to be grinded on by strangers,
to be picked up on by randoms,
to be jostled by the crowd, or
to listen to a DJ get too creative with breaks that I can't dance to.
I do want:
to dance as hard as I possibly can,
to feel like the music cannot get any better and then it keeps getting better,
to find fun people to dance with that are not creepy,
to feel ok to look as dorky or sexy as I want to (I look plenty of both, believe it),
to meet people who are cool and fun,
to end the night feeling like I won it.
Anu is my fave dance spot for the foregoing reasons.
I came to Anu to dance, and that is exactly what I did. While their dance floor was small - it could comfortable hold about 35 people - it was never crowded. I went on a Wednesday night, and there were already people there dancing when I arrived. The trance music just keep getting better as the night went on, and I was sad to leave. The floor was never empty, and all sorts were there, except douche bags. Not once did a guy come up and grind on me, or even do one rude thing. That was awesome.
It was a nice lounge area, but the music was too loud to have a really comfortable conversation (even though I tried anyway). I ordered a cosmo, and it came back strong and wonderful at $8 per. Bartender was nice and I didn't wait for more than four minutes or so for him to get to me, even though he was steadily busy throughout the night.
It's a nice, clean place, including bathrooms. The bathrooms were a pretty happening place. I did notice a few individuals go to the bathroom together a few times. I'm guessing some uppers, but who knows.... Maybe they just like to gossip as they pee.
So the good: great trance music, enough room to dance, nice people (no douche bags), AIR CONDITIONING, and good drinks
The not so good: it's so small. I know that I live in SF and I need to get used to the really small club scene, but had there been just 15 more people who wanted to dance... that would have been a problem.
I'd give it four and a half stars if I could...
First found Anu last Saturday night. We were headed to Club Six but they were having a Reggae night, so we skipped over to Anu as the bouncer at Six told us that was the place to go for techno. DJ's on this particular night were spinning a house blend with a strong emphasis on funk. Cozy dance floor, great crowd, and very friendly staff. I danced all night. There was plenty of room to move, but not so much that I felt conspicuous on the dance floor.
Bartenders had made some homemade vodka infusions, and after my fourth drink I was tanked, which is atypical. At $8 each, I was thrilled! I suggest a pineapple vodka with simple syrup - shut up!
A+
Met up with a large group of people here the other night for a meet-up event. It's a trendy, upbeat little place in the middle of the mission. Drink prices were fair and the DJ was OK. The seating was open and comfortable. We only stayed until 10:30p but the place was starting to get packed even by that time. Anu is a great place to meet up with friends, chill out, dance, and drink a bit, everything a bar should be.
I was here the other night with a group of friends. We talked the cover fee down to about half, since there were so many of us... I personally loved it. The DJ was playing this endlessly looping/changing kind of tribal trance techno beat that never got old. It's a small place, but it felt really chill and engaging.
Had a drink before dinner before Lebowskifest last night at Anu. I've been here many times, and usually it's nice. It's a cool, well appointed interior, a nice dance floor, a good looking bar. Usually there's good music playing . . .
But yesterday evening, for some reason they were calibrating their sound system with pink noise. For those who don't know, while white noise consists of random frequencies, pink noise consists of every frequency played simultaneously and at a fixed amplitude. In this case, the amplitude was LOUD. And pink noise sounds like nothing so much as a 747. I said "Now I understand what it must be like to work on the tarmac - except those guys where ear protection!"
Hey Anu - next time you calibrate your sound system, maybe do it BEFORE you open, instead of after? Thanks.
Nice little spot on Dirty 6th St!
From the outside, it looks like a dive, but on the inside, it's pretty luxe with these interesting art/paintings on the walls. On a Thursday night, they had a happy hour special for margaritas, but there's a great bar with a wide selection of liquors...including Old Potrero! Drinks weren't too expensive (~$8), and the service was quick.
There is lots of bar seating and small seats/tables on the side so it's a good place to catch up with friends near the front of the bar...and dance (when there's a DJ, I would guess) in the back.
In a lot of ways, Anu is The Spot. If I feel like sneaking into a bar to have a drink on an off night, that's the first place I think of. It's as much like Cheers as you'll find on 6th Street. The bartenders are good at what they do. People talk about the infused vodkas, and those are certainly good, but your average Jack & Coke will work out just fine, as well.
Then, on Wednesdays, Anu gets as close to the center of the SF DJ Universe as any other bar in the city. It shines especially brightly considering its small size. Satellite SF, run by talented local DJ Scott Carrelli, has been bringing in the big names from around the city and (way) beyond its borders for a number of years now. The music is always good and the vibe is always tight. I've made so many friends there, and still catch up with them even today outside on the stoop, smokin'.
In many ways, Anu has grown up around this party. What used to be a ktichen is now an expanded dance floor. And every year, a growing soundsystem upgrades the ambiance as well.
Other nights at Anu are popular too. Every night, there's a different style of music to suit your tastes, and those of your friends. There are comfortable bench couches towards the back, with small seats for big parties. And Scott Carrelli also does an 80's night from time to time, just in case underground dance isn't your thing.
Anu is a haunt of mine in the city. It's an axis my SF world revolves around, especially on Wednesdays. Check it out, buy a drink, and see how a small bar can be *kind of a big deal.* ;)
Anu is my nu favortie spot in the city.
I gave it only 3 stars because I don't want it to get to crowded, I know selfish. The house music is awesome.
Bartenders....Quick like lightening. And Friendly! The drinks not to stiff, but not too weak either
The scene lots opf hipsters. But friendly ones, not the ones who snap at poetry readings. And the girls were looking pretty good, and didn't see any douche bag guys. No Marina types, no Russian hill / Snob Hill Types, no Marin garbage, no SJ asian drama or AP's..
Ah such a nice place to chill out.
My friends and I got together and headed off to Anu for happy hour on Friday. In all, this place is okay. The drinks aren't "stupid strong", so, you can enjoy drinks and not get smashed. Yes, YOU TOO can talk at a bar, enjoy drinks and not have slurred speach! However, if your intentions are different, simply ask the bartender, and he'll comply. I didn't have any issues with the service, the place is clean, and it was the right size for the crowd that was there. I can't comment about the bathroom as I didn't use it.
One thing, this place doesn't serve is food. As such, you may want to head to the various eateries around the area before/after Anu.
Well, I have one word for this place and it is Bryce. Whew, mama needs to sit down after seeing that beautiful specimen of a man, yum.
But about the bar, it's really cool. I didn't really know what to expect walking in, but it's definitely one of those places that has the shady looking exterior, but then once inside you are in a really nice looking space with cool lighting, great booze selections and DJs spinnin a happenin blend of tunage to sip your cocktail to. Definitely my favorite kind of bar.
We stayed for a few hours and chatted about the world and the goofballs in it and as we were leaving, we got our comedy giggle for the evening as two douche bags walk into a bar and actually said the following, "Yeah, can we get 2 hurricanes?" To which the rockin bartendress held her internal "what the fuck?" laugh to herself and said, "Umm, wow, I haven't made one of those since I was 16. What's even in that? Sugar? Why don't you just order a shot and be done with it? I mean, I don't want you passin out on my bathroom floor"
Awesome! 4 stars for her kickassness alone! Yeah, I'll be back :)
Want electronica music - this is your spot! I dont go there for anything else but music --- feel the beats thump. That is all I have to say for the last few visits. The only downside, its in one of the shadiest parts of town and you gotz to watch you back, if you're walking stick to Market street where there are people at all times.
This place combines all the character of 6th street with all the charm of a douchbag marina bar. shoot me.
Actually returned for a happy hour. I completely forgot that I'd been here before until the hazy memories of Grime City mentioned below sprouted from my consciousness.
It was a birthday celebration, so after walking down Mission (why? I should know better than to walk down this sketchy stretch of the street) and hanging a right on 6th, we arrived. This is such a great space. Not too big, not too small. Bar on the left, seating on the right, DJ booth in the back with a dancefloor, although I think I was the only one dancing at times. It was the right size for our group, and we weren't competing for space like we would at other happy hours.
Which, considering the neighborhood, makes sense. But I'm dragging my coworkers to the next Grime City, so I'm not running away anytime soon.

Came here to check out their Grime City night. I mean, it's a BAR, as long as it has drinks and… Read more »
Anu possessive? Um... "Anu's." Minus the apostrophe? Well...
Shrug. I'd give it another star if there had been a better DJ.
Came here for the very first time last Wednesday night. Interesting place!
I was so surprised to see that this place has more game than some bars & clubs combined on the weekends!! By midnight, this place was pretty packed!
Drinks were fairly priced. The bartender was attentive, prompt and efficient. My $8.00 Black Russian was pretty decent since I could taste the alcohol. The place is rather divey and small with a long hallway floorplan. The dance floor is pretty much nonexistent. I can only imagine how stuffy and crowded this place must be when renowned DJs come and spin their magic. Lighting is pretty dim with a long row of stools by the bar and a long booth by the dance floor. Beautiful, nicely lit bar with abundant of alcohol on display, I have to say.
The only cons that I can think of is the $5 cover charge and the bathrooms are located near the DJ booths. You need to dodge through a crowd of people in order to reach your destination.
So if you're into house music and you happen to be in the city on a Wednesday night, check this place out!
To state the obvious: the vibe was cool. The people were cool. The venue was cool.
Set back: the drinks sucked ass. I had ice in my shot glass? UHH not cool.
ruined it.
I really like house music. This place apparently plays it. The night I came, they didn't play it. It was full of yuppie white people in strange floral print dresses and white guys trying to dance (the idea is mind-boggling in itself).
I would have given this place 1 star for its super sketchy location (don't ever go to this place alone, not actually inside, but don't walk to it alone - 6th st is scary), but the fact that it's one of the few bars that plays house I have to bump it up a notch. Too bad I won't come here again.
Little pricey, the artwork is a little static, and it gets hot as hell in there.
That being said, I love this place. I come here for a monthly on the regular and have a great time every single time. 6th St. is always a wonder, and the door guy has the best methods for dealing with the riff raff.
The dance floor could be bigger, but then I might complain that it is too big.
One secret: girls, if the ladies line is getting a little long, there's a private toilet in the mens. I don't mind if you pop in.
Great divey bar to continue your Wednesday dancing/music thang after Minna closes at 10 pm.
PART I - REVIEW (this part is skippable, just read PART II & go here Wed 10pm-2am):
A big crowd is usually here on Wed. eves., Anu being the default "go to" place to continue dancing/drinking for the the big Wed. Minna crowd that gets kicked out at 10 pm. 111 Minna closes at around that time on Wednesdays -- and as Minna closes, after some stand around outside Minna yelling drunkenly, you can watch over half of the hundreds that were at Minna make an ant trail, snaking their way down Market/Mission/Muni and try to cram into Anu -- (see my review on 111 Minna). The drinks at Anu are cheap, and the place is so dark that no one holds back in the back area dance floor. Let yourself go.
PART II - FISTFIGHTS, MAYHEM, CHASING PEOPLE WITH STICKS! (more interesting part):
Caveat: This part of SF is dangerous at night. Be very careful if you go here. This is the first bar I've been to that I can remember seeing fights outside the bar as I entered the place at 10:30 pm, and 2 more fights when I left at 1:30 am! But you know what -- some attractive people are mixed in with the scumfights. The wildness in the area is strangely attractive. Ever hear of the hot Hollywood actors who can have almost anyone they want, and they go hangin' in the streets? Kinda like that...
Actually the earlier fight was the highlight of the night. A big guy was actually chasing another guy down the street with a big piece of wood, yelling incoherently about how he shouldn't have horsewhipped him, and he was gonna smack him upside the head with the piece of wood real good. But the piece of wood was like 20 feet long, way too long to really be a good weapon. It was hilarious, because the piece of wood was so heavy it slowed the dude down so much that the other dude was able to easily run away, turn around and make a few faces, but he was still scared and running! Good times!
ah yaaas....horsewhips and chasing people through the dark city with huge pieces of wood...what is this, the 14th Century? Well, welcome to post-10pm 6th & Market Street, and yes as a matter of fact it is 13th C, punk! Come on now, be honest: when is the last time you saw an actual dude chasing another dude down the sidewalk with a 20 foot long 2x4 in his arms? Um...? Alrighty then. It was actually entertaining and a bit unnerving at the same time. High crime area. Cab it to and from this place, unless you live right in the neighborhood and know your way around here...even then...be careful.
YouTube addicts: This place would be an excellent place to venture with your video camera at night, almost any night you can find some hilarious/scary action like the above going on. On second thought, don't do it: you'd never make it back and become a YouTube star, because they'd torture&kill you for your video camera.
Fun rowdy place, though. Don't go here on a first date. If you come here, come hard...or stay home. :)
111 Minna (early 5-10pm) and to a lesser degree, Anu (later 10pm-2am) are among the better places to be on Wed. nights in SF for great House music & dancing-- Minna & Anu may as well be joined at the hip, they are that tight of a pub-crawl pair for Wednesdays.
Anu is much less dive-y than you would think. It rates right in the middle of my dive bar to yuppie bar scale. Drink prices are about average, no steals but no gouging. David the doorman is a famously entertaining dude, and my girlfriends go all drooly over Bryce the bartender.
I go there regularly for Grime City, which is the third Friday of every month. The night is laid back - most people go there to get all sweaty dancing and chill out with friends rather than to be seen or hook up. Its my favorite night in the city. I also enjoy Still Doin' It which is pretty liquidy drum and bass. I have never been to Satellite Wednesdays but I hear its very good house, if you like house. Which I don't.
And yes, Sixth Street is full of crackheads. If you park around here, your car will probably be safe, however one of my friends had hers broken into, and another of my friends left Anu one night to find two crackheads constructing a tent on the roof of her car. On this block there are three bar/clubs, so if you walk tall, its not too scary at night, and it makes for great stories the next day as you recount who and what you saw when you were out smoking.
For example: a crackhead in a homemade Darth Vader costume, a guy climbing up the gate to the fire escape of the residency hotel across the street, bottle rockets strapped to the telephone poles and shooting across the street (ok that was really dangerous so I feel kinda bad that I laughed watching the faces of people driving SUVs up the street- they were like "oh shit its the revolution, and I'm on a one way street!")
this is basically an addendum to megan w's review which i agree with 120% BUT i gotta give four stars because the super girly, alcoholic concoctions that the painfully hip bartender whipped up were sugary delight in a glass AND for the gentleman who bought us a round because he said i have a, "just had sex look". HOW HOT IS THAT? well, and also creepy. BUT hot. Hot Creepy. Mix that in with the dude poking his head in to yell, "anyone want to buy smoked salmon?" (was that a come-on???) made for a truly twilight zone experience.
Why come (tm, miri d) everytime i'm with megan w. fools be buying us drinks left and right? answer: megan w. = super hot. ttttt. alternate answer: i guess we're gonna have to stop making out in public! LAURA!
I wish I wasn't late meeting the Get Fresh Crew as I missed the smoked salmon purveyor. I love anything that fell off a truck - I grew up in Jersey. The thing is that Dunzo called it: the mojo is just off here. And then Maria D. called it: and the music is usually pretty lame (and often way too loud - and do I need thumping house at a bar?). Laura B. called it, too: bartender did seem to have a layer of sex-sweat film - I'm really lazy though, so I like that it saves me the trouble of fantasizing. And a good attitude goes a very long way with me. When I pointed out that my glass was cracked he looked genuinely crushed and alarmed and got me a new drink at once. Yeah, I like 'em pretty. And easily startled.
A 1/2 star would truly come in handy right now.
I couldn't get myself out of going to Anu last night even though I had a very good reason of being wiped out from my 2nd Birkram night class. I just had to go because one of my good drinking buddy is moving back to Japan and I really wanted to see her and say "good-bye" -- so sad!
With my tired self, I catch the Muni bus and headed towards Mission and Fourth to meet another friend, Jeffrey F. We walked towards Sixth between Mission and Market where we finally found Anu :-)!
My first impression: I love the space, the lighting, and the booths (very comfy) with tables all lined up against the wall. I think the bathroom signs were pretty cool too -- way in the back with an upper-case W or M, plus it was clean and it didn't smell in there, which is always a good thing.
Awesome mixed drinks/cocktails -- bartender made a special drink for my friend and she drank it all night. There's also a few beers on tap -- I had a pint of Hoegaarden with a lemon wedge, so refreshing. GREAT MUSIC, I like the beats -- found myself wanting to go out in the dance floor and get my groove on! Ha! A great place to sit back, talk to friends and people watch or get up and start bumpin' and grindin' :-)!
Bartender(s) were a bit slow especially in the beginning when the place wasn't even packed yet. Lots of young-college-student looking crowds in their blue Jeans and black Converse Chucks -- definitely a hang out for someone in their 20's and early 30's.
Don't think I'll be back. Sorry. It's just not my scene and I just rather not be in that neighborhood especially if I'm going to be drinking at night.
The bar was suddenly infiltrated by angry yelpers with pitchforks screaming "DRINK DRINK DRINK!" At least, that's how the bartender's face looked. Poor little dude was sweating bullets all by himself. I wanted to jump back there and help him. Or at least, help myself to a Stella. I'D GIVE HIM A TIP!
But that aside, on a normal night, this bar seems chill and maybe a good place have a nightcap. Sip on some cucumber infused vodka, and after a couple, you might just want to buy some crack, from the plethora of dealers in the area. Or pick up a hooker even! The area really does have a variety of options.
Three words- cucumber infused vodka.
Anu has always been my pre-Warfield drinking spot but for some reason I haven't been in a while. When Friday's DYL happy hour switched locations at the last minute, Anu welcomed our large group with open arms. A few of us asked the bartender which infused vodka he would recommend and without hesitation he said the cucumber infused. Served over ice it was the perfect cocktail on this warm evening. Thank you, Anu, for showing me that cucumbers ain't just for pickles anymore.
I go out a reasonable amount, and I've hit a good sampling of the venues that play electronica in the city, so it's something of a surprise that I haven't made it to Anu yet. It gets mentioned among my dance scene friends a lot, specifically for the quality of the DJs it brings in. So I was happy to check it out.
The music WAS good! There were three problems though. One was that I'd been at the Holiday party and had been drinking booze like it was free (which of course it was). I walked in and ordered a drink I really didn't need. Dumb move.
The second was that it was Wednesday, and the third was that the place was a complete sausage-fest that night. And not the kind that is easy on the eyes - I'm talking a couple of Gollum's cousins were out there jerking and twitching to the beat.
Three women and twenty guys on the dance floor. It was kind of a buzz-kill. I danced briefly, then sat down. After struggling to stay awake for a half hour, I took a cab home.
I'll give it another shot - the place is nice, the drinks are strong, and the music is good. I can see this working on a weekend.
Looks like someone opened a bar in the basement of their parents' house in New Jersey, circa 1980. And I'm sorry, you want me to pay what for a drink on 6th and Market??
The bartender was sweet and well-intentioned, but I think hair product is more his thing than mixology. And at one point, some random 6th street denizen stuck his head in and asked if anyone wanted to buy some smoked salmon. It's a wierd place.
I dig. I dig. I dig.
I've been here many a Wednesday night, and once on a Saturday night. If you're into house music and you need something to look forward to during the week, this is the spot. It's just a cool vibe (low douchebag ratio), a small simple place, a decent sound system (never too loud), reasonably priced drinks, and fat beats.
What more do you want for a Wednesday night? The one time I was here was on a Saturday (I walked on over from the incredible Underworld show at the Warfield) and it was pretty dead. I dunno, I like to go big on weekends.
Only negative is that it gets really damn hot. If you can grab a spot near one of their fans, you're in business. If not...well, bummer. The area is a little sketch, too...but as I always say, the crackheads bring culture.
This is what my mid-20's are about, kids. Getting drunk and seeing house music on a Wednesday night. This is life. Life is good.
Yes, it is 6th street. However-
Bartender was a cutie. He was very kind too. I was impressed with a concoction he made containing Hanger one Buddha's hand, cranberry, fresh citrus... It was delightful.
.
One night a few months ago a friend and i came searching for this bar on a night on the town ... we thought we had found it ... and it wasnt until exiting Club Six at 2.30 am that we realised that it was Club six we had been in not Anu! anyway ..Anu was shut but the bouncer was shutting up and let us take a peek inside ( thats for star 1 )
Anyways .. last night we arrived at about 12.30 am ... the bouncer was sweet as pie ( the same bouncer - 2 stars ) , the bar staff were excellent ... the drinks were strong ( and you paid for it ) , and the music was pumping. The vibe was cool as!
The area does not have a very safe feeling to it so being a girly id not wander around on my own ( last night i just happened to be with Lara Croft and a Pirate and being Superwoman had no worries !!! )
Really cool place and i will definitely be going back ! ( the DJ was wearing a ball gag .. i just rememered .. funny ! )
Me: $10 for a shot of Fernet and a CAN of Pabst?!?! You have got to be joking!
Bartender: Oops, sorry! $9
Yep, I won't be doing that again. I think this bar is delusional, they're on 6th & Mission for fuck sake & they think they can get away with that? Oh, and they had a great flier that said it was free to get in at Happy Hour...imagine that! Free to get in to pay exorbitant prices for cheap alcohol. What a bargain.
Some creep chatted me up while I was waiting for the girls, man...this is why I don't leave the bars I know.
Now it should be said that this review is based upon hanging around the door, scurrying in and out to use the bathroom and the hearsay of other Yelpers who'd spent more time in the bar...
To make a bunch of yelpers self-organize and leave their drinks behind for another location takes a lot. Yet this is exactly what happened one fine Friday evening recently. From what I can gather the majority of this was down to the fairly inept bartender, who was counting on his fingers and spending little time at the bar itself. The atmosphere was admittedly a little lacking, even with dedicated party people.
Anu, It's not you, it's me... it's just not working out. I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but I'm leaving you for Mr. Smiths. Why? Because he's far more fun and classy. He offers more. He has two bartenders, and they actually serve drinks... No, please, don't. You'll only make it worse. No, we can not have break up sex. Stop crying Anu, please...
I like Anu a lot. I remember comming in here during my first trip in SF more than two years ago. They were playing funky trip-hop music, people spining and whirling around, and some dude reciting verses. It was a very wierd yet fascinating thing to see, which was clearly impressed in my mind, and I had to tell to all my friend about my SF experience.
One year and a half later, and I move in SF, so now I go to Anu often.
I like to go on Wed. nights, this place is really happening, as there is a lot of people that come in here after Mina 111 closes.
What's good about it:
+1 No cover charge.
+1 Great music (if you are into funky stuff, mostly house and electro)
+1 Cool and funky people. More SF-ers and less Bridge and Tunel types
What sucks
- 1 It is a sausage party. Ratio of men to women is 3 to 1
-1 The place is smallish and darkish, and it can get crowded
The music in here is more unique to SF. You don't hear it as much in Europe.
So, Anu is a bar that provides the True SF experience.
