We stopped by this local coffee shop on our way home after being in Philly to visit friends for the weekend. I had a caramel latte and a bacon, egg and cheese croissant. My friend had a similar order. We got them to go and set off on our journey back to Michigan. They were *amazing* to the point that I'm glad I don't live near this cute little shop because I'd always be buying bigger pants!

If you live nearby and have more self-control than I do then I highly recommend giving this place a try. If you're visiting South Street this should be your breakfast stop!

Ants Pants came highly recommended and I've been meaning to make my way there anyway, so today I took a stroll in the sunshine to give it a go.  We got there early so didn't have to wait very long.  It was quite warm inside and the back outdoor area was full, so we elected to sit out front.  The table was fine, but I felt bad for the couple next to us, who were seated right next to the basement access.  Apparently they needed a lot of stuff from the basement.

I ordered a vanilla milkshake and the eggs benedict.  I was torn between the benedict and egg, ham, and brie sandwich, but chose benny because I've been craving it.  My partner ordered the bacon stack and a strawberry shake.

The milkshakes were delish - no problems there.  Friend had no complaints about his bacon stack.  And while I demolished the eggs benedict because I was starving, I wasn't bowled over by them.  I've definitely had better.  The eggs were slightly overcooked, there was only ham on half of it and the same for the spinach, and it was too bland for my tastes.  It just didn't come together for me.

The portions are more reasonable than a lot of brunch places in the area, so if you're looking for something where you won't have 9 servings of french toast on your plate or enough food to feed a small country, Ants Pants has your back.

Overall, it was good but not spectacular.  I will probably come back in the hopes of finding something more to my liking on the menu.  It's a cute place and worth a second try.

3/5 Stars - I'm averaging my two trips here.

My first trip was lunch - chips, mozzarella sandwich, and a violet shake.  The shake and chips were really good.  This was surely a 4/5 experience.

My second trip was for breakfast - dill-scrambled egg.  This dish is a mess.  It has dill-scrambled eggs, a side of raw spinach, and a side of sliced tomatoes.  I came away from that dish knowing I could've made it much better in my own kitchen.  Firstly, if you're going to have sliced tomatoes that are plain, it would be nice if they were really ripe and tasty.  If they're not ripe or tasty, than it would make more sense to me to either cook them, add some dressing to them, or season them in some way.  The whole dish just did not seem to be well presented.  The raw spinach seemed strange to me.  I couldn't taste the dill in the eggs - I could go on.  This was the 2/5 experience.

Conclusion so far: I wouldn't eat breakfast there but the lunch is pretty good.

I am so bummed to write this update but it is my duty as a Yelper.  I'm still giving you three stars because your coffee, food and shop is still very cool but I just can't let you keep the five stars any longer.

I really want to love this place.  I've come back four times since my initial review.  Each time I wait at least 20 minutes to sit down, which I'm okay with since all the great brunch nooks have a mandatory wait.

What I don't like, is that each time I sit down, I wait like crazy for my food.  I'm not sure if it's personal, but each time I've come, we sat down before some groups and way before other groups but we inevitably get our food last.  A few months ago we waited so long after others got their food that I think the waiter felt bad and brought us a complimentary bowl of Tim Tams (which are delicious - I highly recommend them as a snack).

We went last weekend.  The line was long so I got a coffee and tea while we waited to sit, I was just dying for the coffee and couldn't wait another 20 minutes for it.

We sat down and ordered immediately.  A few minutes later, a four top sat in front of me.  A few minutes after that, another couple sat on my right.

    Then we waited....

The couple to my right got their food.  The four top then got their food.  A fifth person joined them right after and placed an order.  We waited... the fifth person then got their food.  Our waitress hadn't even been back to our table.

The couple to my right finished and got their bill... still no food.  The four-top did the same, then our food came.  By then, I was cranky and starving so I just angrily shoveled my food down.

Our waitress then promptly brought the bill and totally didn't care.  I still tipped her 20% out of fear of getting worse service if I do go back.

This has happened four times.  Why Ants Pants?  WTF did I do to piss you off?

A hidden gem in Philadelphia that I always recommend for brunch.

Yes, you will wait for a table - unless you are like me and my mates who roll in an hour before they close (which is at 3 on weekends). But the food is totally worth it, there is outdoor seating in the back, and the staff is made up of some of the friendliest people. But like I said, it's all about the food. Order the sweet potato fries and share them as an appetizer, try a milkshake, and treat yourself to anything off the menu (grilled cheese, breakfast sandwiches, avocado stuffed onto a BLT). The list goes on.

    Cheap, pay-in-cash-only, and absolutely charming!

Had a delicious breakfast this morning at ants pants. I had the turkey bacon stack, which was way too much turkey bacon with sunny side up eggs on sourdough, with a mixed green salad on the side. My mom had the goat cheese omelette. Both were great. The best though - the potato chip fries. Those were freaking delicious.

This place is teeny tiny but so adorable. It reminded us of breakfast cafes we ate at on our honeymoon in San Francisco. I had the French toast. It was served with a cinnamon sour cream sauce that was amazing. It added tang and then, when bites were dipped in the syrup, added the sweetness. Yum. I also ordered hot chocolate which was served in a pint glass! I'm all for giant delicious chocolate drinks but my only complaint was the cup got so hot, it was hard to drink at first. It also wasn't chocolate-y enough for my taste but, I like things uber sweet and full of chocolate so I'm sure for the average person, it would have been fine. :)

T got the bacon stack, two eggs served on sourdough bread with bacon, tomato, arugula and a mixed green salad on the side. He really enjoyed it. Also, the coffee was outstanding.

A great breakfast to fuel us for the rest of our day in the city. Cash only.

It seems fitting that Ants Pants would be the first place I review on Yelp given that it is one of my favorite establishments in Philly.  I've been in Philly for 2+ years and Ants Pants remains my favorite brunch spot. Here's why:

    1) Simple, delicious and unpretentious brunch food in a casual, neighborhood environment.

    2) The best sweet potato "fries"  and accompanying dipping sauces I've ever had. (They are more like perfectly salted sweet potato slices heaped in a bowl and served with sour cream and a sweet chile dipping sauce.)

    3) Apple Cheddar (Turkey) Bacon Scramble. Sweet meets savory in all the right ways. But having tried almost every item on their menu, I know you can't go wrong.

Ants Pants is worth the wait every time.

The restaurants boring.. The service is poor and the wait time is painfully long!

I lost my appetite waiting for the food to arrive. Go there if you have all the time in the world and if you enjoy a  noisy and crowded space..

The 2 stars are for the food though..  of all other senses you take there.. only the tastebuds will be satisfied.

Ants Pants is probably my favorite local breakfast place since moving to the neighborhood.

I love all of their egg dishes, from their beni to the bacon stack to the omelettes to the scrambles. They sometimes also have excellent specials. I'm a big fan of Australian coffee, so I love that you can get that here, but their regular drip coffee is actually amazing. They use this locally roasted coffee called Blue Water, which is probably my favorite coffee in town. You can buy it to take home, either at the counter or by ordering online on the Ants Pants website. I also recently learned that they make your fruit juice fresh to order, so it comes out of the juicer all frothy and delicious.

Other than the food, one of the best things about Ants Pants is that it opens early. I'm amused that Philly takes "brunch" so literally in terms of hours, with most places not opening until 10:00, 10:30, or even 11:00am. Where I come from no one really cares if it's technically "breakfast" or "brunch," and early birds can get their brunch on at 8:00am. When I'm hungry and can't wait until 10:30am to eat, Ants Pants is the easy choice. It's a good idea to get there early on the weekends to avoid a wait; usually if we're there by 9:00am we're fine, but after that it can get crowded. We also love their weekday hours; since they open at 7:00am M-F we can stop in for a quick breakfast and still get to work by 8:00am.

Thanks for making my neighborhood awesome, Ants Pants!

Tried APC for the third time this morning while doing some laundry. First time commenting.

Walked in and was ignored while the counter person and the cook finished their conversation. Wasn't greeted, more looked at. I took the clue.

Ordered: Small hot choco, 1 everything bagel with a little plain cream cheese.

    Paid: 5 dollars 13.

Got: Cosco chocolate syrup in a cup with milk. Stale, slightly toast bagel with a pound of cream cheese as the cook and counter person talked about how often they forget what people say.

Cook handed me the bag with my bagel. Not facing me...

Maybe a bad time? But pretty much the same when I walk in there...

This little "blink and you'll miss it" cafe is quickly becoming one of my post-night shift breakfast spots. They open early, have a quiet and cozy atmosphere, and serve consistently delicious, comforting food. The staff is especially friendly and courteous. My favorites to date are their grilled cheese with tomato and bacon, their milkshakes, and their creme brulee battered french toast with maple syrup and sour cream sauce. Honestly, I was pretty wary of the sour cream sauce at first but it provides refreshing coolness to the sweet bread and maple syrup. The portions aren't skimpy either; once I've paid my check and hit the road home, I'm ready to hop into bed and start all over again later that day with another 12 hours at work sans tummy rumblies.

Don't forget: they are a cash-only joint. They do have an ATM in-house, though. Oh, and don't try to bring your 10 best friends to dine here, they're small and other patrons will appreciate not having to rub elbows with your entire clan.

I'm not too sure why everyone loves Ants Pants... The food is mediocre, there is always almost a wait on weekends and the menu hasn't changed in years. Every time I come in there is a whole new staff. When you think about it the price of the food, which has steadily increased over the past few years, is far too expensive for what it is. I guess we'll see what happens when Honey's comes in the not too distant future.

"Yay! I'm a fan" about sums it up.

As my life / lunch coach Erin F. so succinctly stated, "I could drink a whole pot of coffee."

The mozzerella / tomato / pesto sandwich was kind of perfect but then again how can you mess up such a thing. The side salad with cucumbers was a nice touch.

Service was really lovely and the prices are really reasonable. Spot on, you might say.

My favorite non-food elements: 80s music playing and counter seats perfect for people and puggle watching.

Just moved to this neighborhood and had to hit up this cafe. It is super cute, the food is really simple and well made, they open at 8:00am on the weekends which is great because we woke up super early (I have a sunlight above my bed so we wake with the sun) walked to rittenhouse square and meandered back to graduate hospital just in time for them to open the doors and turn on the grill, and they played "Breakfast with the Beatles" all morning.

Gotta knock one star off for the lack of American Cheese. This is just on principle. Egg sandwiches taste better with American Cheese than with cheddar. I know it's not real and it's kind of gross but this is America and if we turn our backs on Kraft Singles then we might as well let the terrorists win. Yadadah?

Just had an amazing breakfast here and I will definitely be back.
To start, the staff, from those up front to the server we had, were all super friendly and welcoming. They gave the place a very homey feel and made you feel like a friend.

We got coffee almost instantly while we looked over a menu that offered so many delicious sounding options that I would have taken all day to decide if I wasn't so hungry. I settled on a sandwich that was almost too good to be true - over easy eggs, ham, brie (swoon), avocado and tomato on toasted honey wheat bread. Seriously? Yes! My darling nephew enjoyed the oatmeal with raisins and granny smith apples and my BIL chose the standard eggs, bacon and toast. None of us were disappointed. I never order oatmeal when I'm out but I would consider ordering it here...I snuck a few bites from my boy and Boy, was it tasty. On our way out, we grabbed a chocolate chip muffin to bring home and it too was good - sweet and a great consistency.

As we were leaving, it was definitely getting crowded so I'm thinking this is a place to get to early to grab a table inside when its chilly and out back when the weather turns. I am looking forward to that in the upcoming spring/summer months. This is a neighborhood gem that will be revisited soon!

    Yelp reviews don't lie.
The sweet potato fries are pretty fly.

The sweet chipotle sauce was TOTALLY GREAT
...and really the perfect sweet potato mate

(Everything else was just "A-OK," but to be fair, I only tried the sweet potato fries, regular coffee and oatmeal.

It's also pretty impressive that they serve flat whites...but maybe not since it IS an Aussie joint.)

Come here if you want typically tasty fare with a psychological down under twist.

Wonderful place for breakfast or lunch. I had an omelet with spinach, goat cheese, and caramelized onions. Came with sliced fruit. My lady had a honey turkey sandwich with honey mustard, arugula, avocado, and brie. Hers came with salad. Both were made with delicious ingredients and, as another review said, executed perfectly. Wait staff was friendly, engaging. He was interested enough in our satisfaction but not annoyingly over the top.

Also noteworthy: saw on their menu a "bacon milkshake", which I'll have to try next time. Dining room felt cluttered with so many tables in one room, can't help but wonder if they actually ever use them all at once. Prices were very reasonable.

I finally stopped in here for breakfast.  I brought my kindle thinking I would sit at a table and read, but turns out that you can order everything to go so I opted for that instead.

I got the egg sandwich with turkey bacon.  It was absolutely delicious.  The eggs were perfectly cooked with a little bit of runny yolk.  The cheddar cheese was quality and had a great flavor, and turkey bacon had a nice smokiness to it.  The roll it was served on was good too.  I thought it would be like a food truck egg sandwich, but this was way better.  Definitely one of the  best egg sandwiches I've had.

I also got a coffee and it was fantastic.  It had a really nice flavor.

I went to Ants Pants Cafe on a saturday for brunch after hearing good things about it and I probably won't ever be going back.

The place itself is cute but it was crowded and we were seated next to a couple that was litterally elbow lenght away from us and I was awkward to even try to have a conversation let alone hearing the other peoples every word.

Then there was our waitress.....I get some restuarants don't have dress codes and let their staff wear whatever and I'm fine with that. But people really need to learn what is acceptable work wear and what is not. The girl we had looked like she just rolled out of bed with messy hair and she was wearing a bright colored bra with a LOW cut white shirt. When she bent over to give us our coffee I'm pretty sure I saw nipple.

The food wasn't that great either. I ordered an omelette and that's what I got. It was just a average sized omelette with a couple pieces of fruit on the sad. Pretty disappointing for what I paid, I would at least expect toast or something.

Oh well there are many other brunch places to be discovered.

Moms and I stopped in tiny Ants Pants Cafe for a late weekday breakfast. We sat down and were promptly greeted with coffee and menus. Although the breakfast selection isn't very large we found our favorites! My smoked salmon platter came with a big bagel but I preferred toast and they kindly obliged. Mom DEVOURED her spinach, goat cheese, and caramelized onion omelet which says a lot because she never finishes anything!  We had lots to chat about so we lingered a bit and our server was sweet and swift with coffee refills.

This is a great spot to tuck into for a cozy bite. Make sure you get the inside seat along the wall...it's cushioned! But if you stop by and it's too crowded, you can get yours to go from the Quick Fix menu.

Yup. Still my fave brunch spot.

I present to you "the bacon stack"- a slice of country white toast, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, topped with bacon (turkey for me), topped with peppery arugula and tomato, topped with two over-easy eggs, topped with shaved pecorino romano.

The interior is small, but there's also a covered back patio area of seating (for when it's not 100 degrees outside!).  We wanted an indoor seat, and by opting to sit at the front counter, our wait was maybe 10 minutes for a party of 2.  My creme brûlée French toast was pretty good, although a little on the dry side.

    Misc other thoughts...
    The menu is inexpensive
They have an open kitchen located in the front so it can get a little loud
They have flavored milk shakes on the menu

last week my boss was out on vacation. which meant everyone at work collectively decided to venture out and take a two hour lunch. so we walked 20 mins out of our way, over the bridge, and stumbled upon this cute little café. there's a smattering of rickety-looking tables and chairs inside, with more seating out on the back patio.

i'm really not a fan of the classic american lunch. salads and sandwiches just aren't my thing. so when i saw that they served breakfast for lunch, i cried a little inside. normally, you'd just call that brunch. but brunch is a term i reserve exclusively for weekends -- in reference to that ambiguous meal that occurs between 10am-2pm, preferably after a night of heavy drinking.

that being said, i wasn't too impressed with the menu. there's not a whole lot of options, and their brunch items (pancakes, french toast, etc) sounded unoriginal and not all that appealing. in the end, i opted for the egg, ham and brie sandwich. yes, i ended up getting a sandwich anyways, sigh. but at least it was a damn good sandwich -- the blend of the over-medium egg over the ham + avocado + tomatoes tasted delicious. i asked to go easy on the brie, and i could barely taste it. YAY.

our waitress was really chill, and i love the aussie-theme. what that has to do with ants or pants, i'm not really sure. but i wish i drank coffee so i could've at least tried one of their drips or their aussie coffee drinks.

would i go out of my way to come back here again? probablyyyy... not. hey, at least it made for one interesting and not-so-typical day at work. this is also where we were the day the little earthquake hit. we initially thought it was construction next door, had it not been for the rattling of the rickety tables.

CASH ONLY. don't sweat it, it's pretty cheap.

Disappointment. I've tried Ant's Pants Cafe twice and had similar experiences.

The menu items are simple but seem to exceed their capabilities.

After a long wait, and with very few customers to tend to, both meals were served cold. The order of eggs benedict were served with a very small amount of hollandaise sauce and altogether offered little in terms of flavor or satisfaction. This was served with a modest portion of unremarkable greens. The other plate, bagel with lox, came to the table dry and semi-hard (seemingly toasted too far in advance of the other food). This was served "deconstructed" with roll of smoked salmon and a side of cream cheese, so the prep was truly minimal but still missed the mark. Along with the other items, we ordered house cut potato crisps which were good and by far the stand out item...but not enough to warrant a third chance considering the total price of the meal and the other options in town.

The cafe would benefit from reducing their offerings and concentrating on better preparation and synchronizing the timings so the food arrives to the table hot. As well as considering the removal of the microwave...I don't have one in my kitchen and don't expect them in a small cafe's kitchen. They seem to indicate a failure of some sort to me.

I haven't actually been to Australia, so I can't comment on what breakfast there's like.  What I can talk about here is that Ants Pants has pretty much been my go-to breakfast place over the past two years.

The menu is pretty much what you'd expect: egg dishes, bacon, and french toast.  What makes this place a standout, despite being a bit small, is execution.  The eggs are cooked perfectly, with the yolks running the right amount.  The French toast isn't too hard or too soggy, though if (like me) you don't like bananas, ask them to skip it.

Two last comments: (1) Get the sweet potato fries.  (2) Ants Pants isn't really good for groups larger than 4.

Gets a 5 for consistent quality.

After hearing nothing but good things and trying their really great coffee, I had to give this place a shot for brunch.

I used to serve Sunday brunch in a cramped, independent cafe so I can totally relate with the servers and I understand that both the service and the food, has the potential of not being the best it can be. Now even with this understanding, I still had a bad experience.

Once we were sat at our table, neither of the servers knew which one was going to take us. I know this because I overheard them discussing it until the one server asked the other if she was going to take us or not, with which she replied, "I don't know, take them if you really want them." Ouch.

After taking our order it took a good hour and a half for our food to arrive. I ordered the eggs benedict and when it arrived my poached eggs were fully cooked through and there was barely a scant amount of hollandaise sauce on top of the day old, barely toasted bread. Basically, everything I loved about eggs benedict was taken away from me. No one even came by to check on us and give me the chance to complain.

My friend ordered the Creme Brulee french toast and we're still wondering where the Creme Brulee came into play. Tasted like normal run-of-the-mill french toast to me.

I found out when we went to pay, the servers pool their tips. Makes sense for such inattentive service. I will say, however, that our server was nice and I liked him for personality sake, but unfortunately, as a server, he left a lot to desire. Probably not his fault, this is probably due to lack of good management and organization for such a busy Sunday.

I hope it gets better and I'll probably give it another chance in a different time slot, but unfortunately I'm not going to jump at the chance to do so for quite awhile.

This is an Australian themed restaurant with kangaroo waiters. No, just kidding about the kangaroos. Generous portions, inexpensive menu, and good coffee. Service can be spotty, and they sometimes seem overwhelmed, but I'm willing to forgive that in exchange for consistently decent and not-overpriced food (at least until the rumored opening of Honey's across the street happens). My only hope for Ants Pants is that they will someday add dinner service (they close at 3 pm).

This was one of my All-Time favorites! what has happened??!! OH How the mighty have fallen... After last time I came & service was slow, sweet potato fries were burnt, I went to one of my other favorites for whole summer. We decided to change it up, go here. Course it was busy we sat up front. Our french toast was good, but they can't seem to get the Sweet Potato fries right. This time it was mushy!!! WTH??!! Clumped together, If I wanted mash Sweet potatoes, would have asked for it, but then again probably get deep fried..UGHH!! such a disappointment for a place I held close to my heart!! They better get on the ball, quality & service is just not up to par...doesnt seem like its getting better either!!!

I have been to Ants Pants 4 or 5 times since moving into the Graduate Hospital neighborhood, and have nothing but positive things to say about it. The staff is wonderful, very friendly and accommodating. The food is well-priced and delicious; they have fun specials that change frequently, and I almost always recommend.

Beyond great food, the coffee is AWESOME. It's fresh, and better yet, bottomless! The only bad thing about the place is the long wait, but you can't really blame them for that. In the warmer months, when you can sit outside, they're able to seat more people and keep the waiting line moving.

If you're looking for a new brunch place, you really have to try Ants Pants!

Service and food great. Pumpkin pancakes divine! However, the noise level is so high! As if every diner was speaking into a mic. Strange and a bit unsettling.

Awesome place, ignore the overentitled "Yelp Elites" who have stupid things to say about how the waitress was dressed or they didn't get enough eye contact -- Ants Pants serves great coffee, big breakfasts, staff is fast, cheery and real.

Go, but be really early on weekends!

My go-to brunch place for a hassle-free meal on the weekends. The place is low-maintenance, unassuming, inexpensive, and delicious (a perfect combo for my needed hangover meal).

You definitely should try the sweet potato fries - they come with a delicious side sauce (not sure what it is but it's good). Also order the coffee. Warm, fresh, tasty with free refills!

Everything else I have tried has been delicious. You really can't go wrong. It can get crowded  since it's a very tiny establishment, but they always move the line along and the wait staff are very helpful (i.e. take your coffee orders, give you good time approximations, etc).

Quick tip: They have seating against the wall (like a bar) that you can't see from the entrance. If there are only 2 or 3 in your party be and don't mind sitting there be sure to mention it - will be a much shorter wait.

Five stars. YES!  We had a favorite Breakfast place in Raleigh, NC (Flying Biscuit) and this is the closest we have come (if not surpassing it.)  I got the Creme Brulee French Toast and a side of Turkey Bacon and I was simply blown away.  I got coffee with expresso and I was in absolute heaven for the duration of the meal.  I was not carried away with the sour cream icing concoction you could put on the french toast, but the meal was absolutely perfect without it.  If I could have let the experience last any longer than it did, I would have!  The line can be a little long, and the place is tiny, but I KNOW why people wait.  You simply cannot help yourself.  I have found my new favorite breakfast place OF ALL time.  Ants pants because you cannot wait to go again...and you are jumping around to get it!!!

Cute/SMALL place. Ikea decor. modest mouse/deer tick/mumford and sons music plays in the background.
Latte's are served in cafeteria style plastic tall cups (not very impressive).
    Breakfast is good.
Simple yet hits the spot: ham/brie/avocado/basil/tomato on a croissant.
    DO IT!

I really enjoyed this place.  We took my parents here for Mother's Day, and we were seated pretty quickly, despite the fact that it is a smaller establishment.  Our server was very nice, and the service was pretty quick.  I really liked their coffee!  I had their french toast special - with warm berry compote and cream anglaise.  It was delightful.  Everyone else enjoyed their food as well, and the little tim tam cookies that they have are totally worth trying.    I'll definitely be going back!

Only slight downside is that they only take cash.

Ants Pants is a great little place for breakfast or brunch. The Australian vibe is fun and different, and actually delighted a friend of mine who was visiting for a week from Australia. I just love, love, love the "Bacon Stack" and have a hard time ordering anything else when I'm there. The sweet potato fries are addictive - not super crunchy but full of flavor, not greasy, and perfect with the sweet chili sauce that comes with them.

My only complaints are that service can be very slow, especially on the weekends when the place just gets MOBBED. I prefer to go weekdays when it's quieter, as the dining area is cramped to begin with. All in all it's a welcome place in the neighborhood for satisfying, good food and excellent coffee drinks.
