Best salad bar in Chicagoland! The only problem is I have real trouble not getting the Deli sandwiches, they are too good. This is the best place to grab a sandwich/soup/salad in the north shore. They also have great prepared foods and a hot bar but the reason to go there is the deli and salad bar, everything is very fresh and tasty. Very Good Spot!

I had honestly forgotten about this place. I spent one summer in college working down the street and would go for soup, salad, or a sandwich.
This is where my family was introduced to Boar's Head deli products. We won't buy anything else now!
Anyway, my boyfriend's house is literally 5 minutes from Anton's, so I am constantly driving by. We stopped in the other day to pick up lunch on the way into the office... and I remembered, CHICKEN CHILI. Oh lordy is this stuff good. I've been on a HUGE chili kick lately, and it is just so yummy. And, I feel like its so much better than beef, healthier, what have you.
The deli and salad sections are also amazing, always clean, friendly staff. I wish my office was closer, but, a 10 minute drive up the Edens is worth it in the wintertime for chicken chili. -

If you're a company in the area I would advise not to order catering from them. The basic principle of catering is to provide food and necessary things to eat said food. If you had everything you needed to cater, you wouldn't need to pay for catering because you could do it yourself. Twice I've order from Anton's for lunch meetings, and twice they have screwed it up. What catering place doesn't bring plates, napkins or utensils. Clearly, all companies that order catering must have everything they need to host a full room meeting, of course that's why they would call for catering in the first place, OR all companies are full of savages who would rather eat with their bare hands off a conference room table.
Might I also add, their food is mediocre and pricey. I'd rather order catering from jimmy johns which is right around the corner. At least they're freaky fast, and more likely to be accurate with their catering orders. -

Great tuna salad and hot foods bar! Otherwise, the produce section looks a bit tired, and over half of the space is a garden center. Signs are posted in the garden center that "if you break it you buy it", so don't bring your kids here unless they're older. I would come back for some of the deli items and hot foods, but that is all.

Kinda pricey, but great selection of groceries and hot/cold lunches
Their Fresh squeezed and bottled Juice is delicious. -

4.5 stars. I work down the street from Anton's and I get lunch here about twice a week. Hot food bars usually gross me out but Anton's is the exception-- their buffet is totally solid homemade fare. I've had things like teriyaki glazed beef shoulder, macaroni and cheese, shrimp stir fry, catfish, enchiladas, wild rice pilaf, vesuvio potatoes, and much more. It's priced by weight, and my lunch usually ends up around $7-8. Add a drink to that and it's closer to $10. If the hot food isn't your thing, there's also an extensive salad bar and a deli for made-to-order sandwiches.
It's always crowded around the lunch hour so you may have to dodge the other hungry food hounds of Highland Park. -

When you're in a rush for a good sandwich, Anton's is your savior. The crowds do flock to this place during lunch time, but they are fast and worth any wait you may encounter.
Today, I had the daily special and LOVED IT! First off, I love a crusty fresh baked Italian roll. The special for today was a generous amount of smoked turkey filled with the usual accompaniments but it was the seasoned oils that they drizzle on the 'wich that make it memorable.
You can opt for the awesome selection of sandwiches or opt for the special soups on hand (Which change from day to day) or pastas or salads! You name it, they make it...rolls, paninis, etc
They treat you well here, they feed you well, and they leave you craving for more...Listed in: Highland Park Hotspots

Anton's is a grocery store that's more small-scale and gourmet-focused than Sunset or Dominick's, but it's a bit more relaxed and friendly than, say, Foodstuffs. Anton's is not a supermarket, so don't expect a wide variety of any sort of product! It's a small gourmet market, good for a few things here and there, but not so much for basic staples. The deli section is always full of enticing displays, and the salad bar is pretty extensive.
What isn't as extensive, though, is the produce. Although it is a "fruit ranch" (which makes me think of some cowboy lasso-ing peaches and plums), the quantity is sometimes lacking. There is such a specialty focus, and the quality of produce is very high, but I can't help but feel whenever I go there that the selection is not as wide as it could be.
There is a nursery and a huge variety of plants. My mom really enjoys this part of Anton's, and if you have even the slightest horticultural inclinations, you might just want to check this out. -

Visited here yesterday for the first time after reading all the reviews on Yelp... Not exactly sure what all the fuss is about. It's mostly an upscale nursery/Pier 1-esque/grocery with lots of specialty and novelty sweets and snacks. They have probably every nostalgic candy you remember from your grandmother's house as a child. We came expecting a good selection of fruits to ranch, but there were mostly pre-cut up, pre-packaged fruits. Even the clementines were broken down into peeled slices in plastic containers!
We didn't actually even eat here for lunch, especially after looking at the prices, so I can't speak to the food quality. I bet it's pretty tasty... if you can afford it. -

I cannot say enough about Anton's! I love this quaint grocery store, especially to grab something at lunch time. It does get quite busy, but I would say that is a good sign! They have a full salad bar as well as several fresh soups daily and prepared foods. The deli and bakery are also filled enticing options.
Anton's is the way to go for a quick lunch or for small grocery shopping trips. I would highly recommend if you are in the area to go to this gem! The prices are affordable and you will never get tired of the variety. The staff is friendly and efficient. The only thing they could improve on would be a small outdoor seating area for the lunch crowd. Other than that, Anton's is a great, great place that I frequent often!! -

Review from Holly M.
Everything about this place makes me happy. I get my lunch from Anton's probably twice a week. Huge selection of food. They just changed some things around and now there's a hot bar where you can quickly pick out your food and scurry on out. The salad bar is excellent, with almost any type of dressing, and basically anything to put in it. The soups are fantastic (especially the cheese-broccoli and cream of mushroom). Anton's grocery selection is also organic and delicious. I love picking up a little pack of cherry tomatoes and Havarti cheese for a snack while I'm work.
When summer rolls around, no other store beats Anton's fruit. I absolutely love the peaches there and try to pick some up on my way to work as often as possible. The caramel apples are also to die for. Thank you Anton's for making lunch so easy! -

Ok as with my other recent reviews...this one is about 10 days old. However...over the past couple of years....not much has changed. And thats not a bad thing.
Right next to Route 41...easy access via the Lake Cook Rd exit; a left and a right at Skokie Blvd and you see it on the left hand side.. The interior is nice and orderly....food there is good...I get the flank steak sanwhich and damn it if I dont remember the name of the guy that ALWAYS helps me and REMEMBERS how I like it. But in observation, his professional etiquette doesn't waver an inch when attending other customers.
The place itself is friendly and offers groceries to gardening and accroutments thereof. Parking is ok...the one exit is a bit of a bump. Pricing.....all I have to say it is Highland Park...so it reflects that. (when you see BMWs Lexus etc parked in the lot....you get the idea.) -

Anton's Fruit Ranch is absolutely incredible!
This is a great place to stop at if you are going to Ravinia or the Botanical Gardens. You can purchase everything that you need for a picnic. They have a great deli, salad bar with over 65 ingredients, hot bar, soup and made to order sandwiches. They also have a very nice bakery inside with artisan breads, pastries, etc.
Their produce is top notch, as well as their gourmet grocery aisles. While we were there, I was really surprised and impressed to see one of their workers lying on their back scrubbing and cleaning the bottoms of all their displays. It definitely reassures me they care about cleanliness.
This store also features a large garden center, floral department and gift center. The staff was incredibly nice and encourages sampling. I have to confess that I may stop here again for my own indulgences. -

In the summers I work in Highland Park and if I can tear myself away from my desk Anton's is high atop my list of places to escape to. I haven't done a great deal of grocery shopping (mainly veggies, fruit and healthy organic goodies) here but I can only imagine their goods are great. That being based on their amazing salad bar!
Always fresh throughout the day and kept nice and stocked the choices are almost endless. A variety of lettuce, vegetables and fresh fruit. Toppings galore, including a variety of meats, cheeses, homemade croutons and side salads. Many different salad dressings to choose from as well. As for side salads, the broccoli raisin is phenomenal!
In addition to their salads, they have a variety of soups, some daily standards and different additions each day of the week. The chicken tortilla soup has a delicious spicy kick to it and the chicken noodle is hearty and just want the doctor ordered in the dead of a northshore winter.
Their sandwich bar is also fresh and made to order. Also offering crunchy delights such as fried chicken, fresh fish and home style ribs and the like. They do delivery and catering too! And fresh squeezed juices!
Something to keep in mind, salad cost is based on weight so price can really very depending on what you load up with!
Love this place! And miss it when I'm not up in the northern burbs! -

Lake in the Hills, IL
I absolutley LOVE Anton's. I work in the area and swing by here from time to time during lunch. YUM.
They offer one of the most incredible salad bars I've ever seen. (A variety of lettuce types, a wide assortment of vegetables, chicken, ham, turkey, artichoke hearts, marinated mushrooms, many dressings to choose from, fresh fruit, the list goes on and on and on)
The deli area, is just as good if not better. From the wonderful deli meats and cheeses to the fresh and tasty tuna fish and chicken salad to the homemade meals like meat loaf, lasagna, chicken dishes, etc.
Also a small market with unique items.
Gift shop includes items such as greeting cards, fresh beautiful flowers and plants, picture frames, arrangements, you name it.
Great place. wish there was one in every neighborhood! -
Review from Jay K.
I'm here about once a week. Great salad bar with romaine and iceberg lettuce, two kinds of sliced chicken breast and pretty much any kind of vegetable and fruit.
There are up to seven different soups along with a hot lunch by the pound. Serve yourself and go pay $$. They also make just about any kind of sandwich you like any way you like at the deli counter. If your lucky and like Salsa chicken, try it. I love it. Broasted chicken sold by the piece. Fresh baked breads that are hard to resist.
There is a small grocery in the store with out of the way sauces and misc. food items not found at the chain grocers. The fresh picked corn on the cob is fantastic here. Can't wait for summer.
Nice people, and three checkout lines at lunch. No place to eat inside, so back to the office or in your car. Catering too. -

Anton's Fruit Ranch is very unique. It's a specialty grocery store with produce/specialty items, a deli, a soup, salad & sandwich bar, a bakery and a florist/greenery. When I patronize this establishment, I most often choose items from the salad bar, and these items are always fresh and delicious. I've also tried the sandwich bar a few times and haven't been disappointed yet. The soups that I've tried are also scrumptious (try the chicken enchilada or the chicken wild ride). The only downfall is that the produce/some items are a little pricey, but I believe you're definitely paying for what you get. After all, I keep coming back!

Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells, and cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row.
Well, that's not quite how my garden grows, but if that's what I wanted to grow, I bet I could find the necessary seeds, dirts, mulches, bulbs, plants and anything else at Anton's.
Anton's is always the first stop my mom and I make on our annual garden preparation errands. We choose from rows and rows of herbs, vegetables and flowers, loading up the back of the SUV. The employees are always super-helpful answering all of our questions. It's a once-a-year stop for me, but there's no doubt in my mind that I'll be back! -

The salad bar is where it's at. This place is not cheep but the quality and customer service is unmatched. The people that work here are very knowledgeable and always willing to help and cut up some samples to try. Yes the price is higher but so is the quality and that matters. the sandwich bar is great and the result is always good.

If you want a to-die-for tuna salad sandwich, Anton's is the only place on the North Shore to go. Produce and grocery items are also sold here, but very pricey. Stick to the deli, salad bar, and hot food area. These do not disappoint. but dont leave without sampling the tuna - on rye bread it is a masterpiece.

Best thing about my job is that Anton's is close by! Everyday at lunch you'll find me there. The salad bar, soups and panini of the day are the best! It does get a little crazy around lunch but who wants to rush back to the office anyway.

This was an almost-5-star review for me, except for the sad lack of vegetarian soups (there are what, like 5 soups/day, and only 1-2 days a week there's a vegetarian veggie option? I cry a little...). Salad bar is cheaper than many places, pretty basic ingredients, but gets the job done. Also, they have cinnamon soy chips here!!! Do you know that most stores used to sell these, and now pretty much NOBODY does? Except Anton's, that is! Mmmm sweet chip-form protein.... There's a lot in this tinyish store I have yet to discover.

I love this place. I actually dream about this place. They have the BEST salad bar around and I would actually be willing to drive 40 miles just to go there. Also, the tuna salad is AMAZING! Really, there's too many unique things to try in this place. All produce, deli, and pre-made items are ALWAYS fresh and sooo yummy. And, there's always something there you notice each time and just have to pick up. The staff is so helpful and just so sweet. You have to go if you're in the area!

Hard to find anything wrong with this place. I come here for lunch while I work up in Northbrook. The sandwiches are well made with fresh-tasting ingredients. Look for the specials, cause they're often delicious and a good deal. Also, try the soups. They're really delicious as well.

There are 2 reasons that I go to Anton's. The first is the fresh squeezed orange juice. It's friggen expensive, and its friggen awesome. The 2nd is for the Chili. In the winter time, there is nothing better than getting a cup of Chili from the salad bar area, putting a scoop of cheddar cheese on it, and devouring it. This is not a cheap place, but you are paying for QUALITY and most importantly, convenience. I have also gotten last minute floral arrangements here. Stop in next time you pass by. They have more stuff in here than you ever thought.

Excellent small fruit/veggie market with a salad bar. The produce usually stands out. Salad bar is very fresh and usually has some good protein and veggies. Deli type area has prepared foods. I am not much of a fan of the overpriced summer flowers and plants. Parking can be a problem at busy lunch times. Private lot holds several cars but can be a battle despite the size.

Yay! I love Anton's Fruit Ranch! I haven't been there in a while though...I used to work around there and go over for lunch. I stop there on my way home from my mom's house sometimes because it is right off 41. I love the deli and the pre-packaged foods. A health nut's wet dream!

I find myself eating Anton's once a week. The soups & salad bar is very good along with the croissants. They carry some hard to find foods. I just wish it didn't take me 15 years of driving by the place to finally figure out how good the food is.
