How have I not written about Antonio's yet??

Oh, How I love Thee Antonio's!!!

Totally casual pizza place on Thayer St. They serve everything from your standard pepperoni to the not so standard taco pizza. There is a daily special or two which always look delicious! My favorites are the baked potato and bbq chicken. Tons of options, they typically have 30 different kinds to choose from. You can order by the slice, or order a whole pizza.

It can be crazy around lunch time, but it is worth the wait!

Pizza smack down... Ugh, I got drunk Saturday. Totally off the wagon :(

Saw dude and his kids walking down the street and he told us the nice slice (I'll get to YOU, later, "Nice Slice") that he had was from 'ANTONIO'S...' After splitting a Scorpion bowl at Shanghai (I'll also get to YOU later, Shanghai...) I was lolling around all sloshy and still hungry (what good is sushi after you've a shot of this that and whatever else topped by the frightening 151 all out of two looooong straws?) and I was pointing across the street (while eating pizza from Nice Slice) saying I WANT ANTHONY'S....ANTHONY'SSSSSISSSSWHERETHATGUYYYYY... . went. Right.

    ANTONIO'S.

I mean, as a side note - Nice Slice has got the outdoor seating (though, not much of it, make sure you're with less than four friends) and the sun hitting it just so at that time of the late afternoon. Nice Slice also does VEGAN pizza... which is rad. Wait, I need to talk about ANTONIO'S in this review. Sorry, readers! I suck. I know. But most people don't mind...

Anyways. This place is stuck next to a burrito joint, and is CHEAPER than it's neighbor, Nice Slice. It's more classically New York style. I only got a slice of plain cheese. It was pretty damn good. It had the disadvantage of being the second pizza place I was eating in after also having a full on sushi lunch and two slices at Nice Slice. SO, given that gastric.... umm.... gastric plasticity? Un-necessity? Whatever, slice 3 of large pizza and it was STILL yummy. Not amazing, but delicious enough to devour after all the goodies preceding it: sealing the deal and putting a lid on my drunkenness, replacing the feeling of sloshed with the feeling of nauseas. In a good way, I suppose.

Ordering is AWKWARD... It would be an awesome way to meet your future husband or wife cuz you get to like, brush up against whoever in order to get in the back of the line. It's so crammed! I've never seen anything like it. It is some heinous interior design. And that's saying a lot because, well... you know: I'm comparing you to New York, where everything is crammed. But this place has a new-ish/gymboree feel to it - so you'd think they'd think about it a little more before making the ordering like THAT.

Antonio's, you're ok. Next time, I'll give you a sober shot - on a more empty stomach. Yelp, I'm sorry for my reviews. I suck/they suck/I don't know who made me 'elite' but I love you all....

Best pizza in Prov!! Its always full of drunk college kids, but lets be real... I feel like all of Providence always is.

After a night out on the town, Antonio's hits the spot! Affordable and delish! There's always a line, but don't worry... it moves quickly.

I recommend any of the veggies slices- onions, peppers and mushrooms or eggplant parm pizza is heaven.

Now if only they could remove some of the calories...

"Variety is the spice of life."
That is what I love about Antonio's Pizza.

I said it in another review I just wrote (and I'll probably say it in many more), I love toppings! This can make my time at Antonio's a little difficult as there are so many choices! What do I pick? Who cares! Whatever 2 slices I choose to consume, I leave happy.

While I'll save 5 stars for the best of the best, Antonio's is still one of my favorites. 4 stars seems fitting for their cheap eats that I enjoy.

If you love interesting toppings on pizza, definitely check this place out!

Standard College pizza joint. Counter service was friendly. Slices were jumbo and pretty decent, but nothing super special. I had a nice garlicky white pizza. Prices are perfect for what you get! The reviews of drunk or stoned college kids did not disappoint, as there was a gaggle of them right next to me right around 4:20PM. I salute their attempts to bring in some local color!  Bathrooms are sketchy.

Always something new on the menu. Dollar slices late night. Nice setting and attached to a burito place. Free water!

Okay first off I have to say Antonio's  was playing z100 (my favorite radio station in NYC) when i stopped which automatically makes them awesome.

Second off I am a native New Yorker and like to think I know a thing or two about pizza. I'm not gonna lie the pizza here was delicious and for pizza from RI I approve, almost as good as pizza from  NYC.

They did have a great selection of pizzas, and they are open late and is a great way to end you night on Thayer street.

Totally casual place where you can order a slice from what's on the line or even a whole pie. Thin crust abounds, but there's an occasion thick crust to be found.

It's not knock-your-socks-off good, but definitely an "old reliable". I like being able to get 2 different slices and flavors in the same sitting.

Delicious, not too oily pesto is always a bonus in my book.

Love Antonio's!!! I love all the different types of pizza they have.  Its pretty crazy late night and it feels like everyone in Providence is there.
I went there the other night to get take out. I ordered the honey mustard pizza and a bbq steak pizza. My favorite is the honey mustard pizza, but that night I tried an avocado pizza that my friend ordered, and  it is to die for!!
It was a bit confusing as to who was being served and when the food would be ready.  it is a small place, and I truly wish there was more seating space. However, while I usually be annoyed with this, I understand it is completely catered for the college students. The late night food for after the bars, the quick and easy customer who is in and out. The pizza is worth the chaos I promise!!!

First off I am used to the original Western Mass locale of Antonio's, which sets the bar:
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Not much to elaborate except that this one is bigger (yay) but the guys behind the counter are nicer (boo). You'd think that'd be a positive, right? WRONG. Patience means that indecisive Brown/JWU/RISD students take their sweet ass times without getting the stinkeye/wrath of the generally witty workers. I like some sass with my pizza especially when there's a long line waiting on one kid to make a decision between slices. Sorry I'm not sorry.

Fantastic pizza day, night or late night! Service is great and I love all the topping options.

The crust is thin, there's the right combination of cheese and sauce. Despite their many interesting creations, the basics are just perfect.

I agree with the other reviewer.

Putting an "obnoxious amt of toppings on top of low quality pizza" is sort of like putting lipstick on a pig.  It's still a pig.

This is Providence Rhode Island afterall, not California.  You should be able to get a killer cheese + tomato pizza without resorting to cooky topping concoctions.

The three benefits of Antonios is that it's open late, you can get a slice, and you can watch all the beautiful Brown women passing by.  Come to think of it, scratch that, I've seen the Brown women, there's only two benefits.

Came here for lunch during a conference I attended at Brown. Pretty decent by-the-slice joint (and I love me my pizza joints of all shapes & sizes!) It was very  clean, not terribly busy for a Saturday noon lunch, plenty of seats and counter space to eat, reasonably priced (got 2 large slices and a large soda for $8), and a good selection of toppings. The ordering line allows you to see all the pizzas available pretty clearly behind glass- got myself a mozzarella/tomato/basil and ham/bacon/hamburger. Overall pretty good, my only complaint was that the slices were only tepid, not melty hot like I usually like it.  If I'm ever in Providence again, I may stop by for another go.

Stopped here for lunch today. The place was packed with college kids (like everywhere else in Providence).  I got 2 slices of the pesto tortellini pizza.  It was good, although not worth the $7 I paid for 2 slices and no drink.
I might go back if I'm on thayer and starving but I'd rather spend my money someplace else.

I know this place strikes you as strictly for the college kids, but I maintain that this a damn good slice. This is generally traditional Italian slide, thin crust pizza,

Ignore the wacky, late night stoner combinations and go for the basics, i.e. mushroom (you have to ask for it), pepperoni, sausage and plain. Get yerself a Barq's and you have hot lunch for under $7. Add some red pepper flakes to taste and set yourself at the counter so you can watch the meter maid giving out tickets.

Lunch or before the collegiate crowd's munchies kick in are the best times.

Okay come on guys. Who doesn't like Antonio's?? It's a college town STAPLE and never ceases to serve up a quality specialty pizza at super affordable prices.

Even the pizza guys behind the counter are SUPER quick, amazingly nice, and really great listeners. You shout out an order and think they didn't hear but before you know it, the slice is being served up hot at the cash register.

Sure, you could go to Nice Slice or Fellini's for something comparable, but you can't beat Antonio in the price, style, and regular-joe friendly atmosphere.

If given the option, I'll always be defaulting to Antonio's.
Get the tomato basil mozerella slice. They take all the basil off before they cook it and put the basil back on before they serve it. Locks in the raw basil freshness and keeps the nutrients thick in the leaf.  Enough said.

Have been here 2x and tried 3 different kinds of pizzas, all were great! I loved sitting outside and people watching. My friend asked the guy behind the counter to give her 2 of his favorite and without a pause he picked them out and put them in the oven. Our slices came out hot and gooey just like I like it. Also I was happy to find they have shakers of pepper flakes, cheese, and my fav oregano.
They have so many different kinds of pizza it may be hard to decide what to try....the prices are so great why not order a wild card and split with your friends?

Came here for a 2nd slice of za after hitting up nice slice across the street =)

First off, I was overwhelmed by the variety of pizza they offered.  They had some crazy combos such as tortellini pizza and za with tortilla chips on top?!?! I went with the pesto, spinach, and mushroom slice.  I was afraid it would be bland because of the spinach, but it had a nice flavor to it.

As for the nice slice/antonio's comparison? Nice slice edges out antonio's.  And if you see the overall yelp star rating for each place, you'll see that my fellow yelpers agree.  However, I AM intrigued about the burritos here at Antonio's.  That's gotta be some good drunk food.

My first experience with Antonio's was many years ago at their Amherst location late night after a show. It was some of the best pizza I had ever had (of course when you're starving and have had a few too many, of course it will seem like that). Little did I know there was also an Antonio's down in Providence. Of course by the time I got around to trying their Thayer location I had built them up so much in my head.

Over the years I've been to the Thayer location a handful of times, and each time I'm just a little disappointed. The pizza is tasty, but always gives me some bad indigestion. I love the creative gourmet choices in the pie, and for the money you get pretty decent portions. Though, if you're like me and can easily eat three pieces, you might as well just go ahead and order a whole pizza.

Antonio's is good if you want something hot & quick either for a light afternoon lunch or a late-nite snack, but thats about it.

Is it a five-star location?  Nope.  Is it five-star service?  Not really.  Simply put, absolutely amazing pizza at completely reasonable prices and super-convenient hours (open till 2 on the weekends).  Antonio's has a real imagination when it comes to pizza, and their creations really take the bread-tomato sauce-cheese-thing to a new level.  They always have a huge variety ready for you to choose from, and when they pull it from the oven, it's hot, tasty and the crust has just the right amount of crust to it.  Antonio's is easily one of my favorite pizza joints - I just wish they had one closer to Boston.

Seriously, the buffalo chicken is so good, but you can hardly eat a whole slice never mind two. It is so filling and rich, but it is wonderful. There's a little taco joint in the same space, so if you're feeling adventurous you can hit them both us for a Mexi-talian meal but honestly, the pizza is good enough.

If you can imagine it on a pizza, it's here. I love the Mexican-style pizzas with avocado, black bean, taco spices, tomatoes and more.

    I haven't tried a slice here that I don't like!

Antonio's can be weird about credit cards; sometimes there's a minimum and sometimes no AMEX.

Delicious gourmet slices!  Great assortment!  I love the fresh tom, basil, mozz and also the tortellini pizza!  You can even get a taco on a pizza!  The place is always packed and this means that the pizza just keeps coming out and is continuously fresh!  You really can't make a bad pick with any of the slices... the issue is not picking them all!

The line is tight and you do not want to be "that" person holding people up from getting the fix for their pizza craving!  Just follow the person in front of you...scan the pizzas while you are in line... remember what you ordered... or at least what was on it... and move down the line, pay, and enjoy!

    Yum!

With so many dining options on Thayer Street, Antonio's Pizza does not live up to the hype. While studying at Brown University a few years ago my friends and I frequently went here for late night pizzas. They display a large assortment of different pizzas on the counter and if you choose a slice or two from these display pizzas they place your selections into an oven for re-cooking. Expect the taste of these single slices to be old and dried out. The price per slice is also ridiculous, especially if the toppings are not your standard pepperoni and cheese.

I recommend ordering a pizza for pick-up. You avoid the often loud and cramped seating environment, the taste is fresh, and the price is more reasonable per slice.

Without a doubt, Antonio's serves THE BEST, MOST AUTHENTIC New York-style pizza in Rhode Island.  Their menu is filled with a mind-boggling array of toppings and combinations and, best of all, is offered by the slice.  You can try a few different kinds of pizza without having to commit to an entire pie.  Despite the selection, a purist like myself is equally delighted with the simple beauty of a proper slice of plain cheese or pepperoni.

The restaurant is filled with students, and there is no liquor license, but OUTSTANDING nonetheless.  It's fun to sit in the window and watch the world go by on Thayer Street.  People-watching in this corner of the East Side of Providence doesn't get any better!

Here's a tip - to avoid looking like an idiot remember some descriptive words about the slice you pick...different slices = different prices and the slices are in the oven when you go to pay... so if you brain fart you'll hold up the line and people will mock you...

Adequate pizza would be OK or even welcome if there weren't already a large number of pizza places on Thayer, and it's right across the street from the sublime and marginally more expensive Nice Slice.

Best thing I've heard said about it is some people like some things they serve which dubiously fit the definition of pizza. That doesn't interest me, so I've got no reason to go.

"Choco Loco," also known as "Beaurider," also known as breaded chicken and tortellini pasta pizza ($3) is also what they used to call me when I was a grad student and ate there almost every weekday for lunch, enough so that they gave me an Antonio's T-shirt that I have still never worn.

I stopped by recently on a trip to Providence, and it was pretty much the same as I'd left it 4 years ago. In fact, I actually recognized one of the guys working there, which in one way temporarily provided the comforting illusion that nothing had changed and in another way felt creepy like Groundhog Day.

The main draw is an impressive slice selection of 30+ varieties that is even enjoyable sober, ranging from basic cheese ($1.75; the days of $1 slices are long gone) to specialty slices ($2.75-$3) including pesto portobello with fresh mozzarella and basil, barbecue chicken, pepperoni, pesto chicken, mexican, the aforementioned and many others.

Gordito Burrito is also in the same establishment, so if you have companions who are intimidated by the pizza selection, there's always a simpler option.

The Antonio's side of the house keeps it focused, and I will too: If you like New York style pizza, you can't really go wrong here.

Lunchtime, dinnertime, late-night staple on Thayer Street.  These guys have the best array of different pizzas heavily loaded with all sorts of crazy combinations of delicious toppings.

OK, if you are looking for a light, refined slice of pizza you go across the street for Nice Slice.  I will admit Nice Slice has nicer-looking and classier-looking pizza, and it tastes great.  But if you are truly, truly hungry, if you NEED to fill that groaning belly, there's only one place that can give you that BBQ Chicken Bacon & Ranch slice and that Spicy Chicken Quesadilla slice that you're craving.  Generally, if I'm looking for Pizza with toppings, I go to Antonios.  If I just want a slice of cheese or margarita, I'd pick Nice Slice.

Seriously though, the BBQ Chicken Bacon & Ranch pizza is might just be the greatest creation to come out of Brown's campus since Andy Van Dam invented hypertext.  No barbeque chicken pizza I've had since even compares.

Antonio's isn't bad, but for some reason they aren't able to measure up to their Amherst location.  There's something about the crust and the toppings here... they seem almost pre-packaged and fake.  It's a subtle difference, but it's there, and the slices are almost cloying as a result.  Too much everything and not enough "pizza", if that makes any sense.

If you're on Thayer and need a slice, i wouldn't avoid it by any means.  But there's better pizza around.

Also, what the hell is with the whole reheat-the-slice-on-wacky-conveyor-belt-instead-of -a-real-oven thing? It's just not.... pizza enough! Strange...

Antonio's is a creative pizza lover's dream.  If memory serves, the menu says they can make something insane like 400 different pizzas.  Really, though, imagination is the only limit.  The slices are generously sized, the toppings range from the traditional to the totally far out, and everything I've tried there has been delicious.

The staff can be a little "zonked out," but they are friendly.  I left my bag there once and when I called a few hours later to ask if they had it I felt a little like I was in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, but they did find it and saved it for me and were cool about it.

I heard a rumor that there is another branch of Antonio's in Champaign, Illinois, and I will be checking that out next time I am there.  And when I return to Providence, lunch at Antonio's will be a MUST!

Go to Nice Slice if you know what's good for you, there's no excuse not to.  The crust/dough here is plain like cardboard.  NS uses a nice wheat blend.  This place uses gimmicky varieties of pizza instead of awesomeness like Nice Slice.  Nice Slice wins.   If Arnold Schwarzenegger from the movie Conan were a pizza joint, he would be Nice Slice, and Antonio's would be that wizard dude who's only good for parlor tricks.

3 points for only having to buy a slice.
1 point for the shared burrito space.

2.5 to 3.  You be the judge.

If you stand in front of this store and look out you can see three or four other restaurants that also sell pizza.

This place is great for cheap college students, but the ingredients are pretty bland and industrial tasting. The one thing they have going for them is a selection of like 20 different pizzas.

    Great slice selection
    A sidewalk stalker's haven
    College nostalgia

It's relatively inexpensive, they don't wipe the tables enough, there's usually a line, there's no decorations just cheap food and it's open late. In a phrase, this place makes me miss college.

I like Antonio's because the pizza isn't greasy, but yet it's not made of cardboard. There are a ton of options, including Sicilian slices and the normal cheese. I usually opt for whatever has the most vegetables piled on top. The sauce could be a little better, as occasionally I find my slice a little barren under the cheese. I'm not asking for a ton, just a little bit more stashed under there would be great. Because of the diverse selection of slices, the pizza is sometimes a bit cool, but they warm it up for you upon ordering.

As most folks have said, it's a great place to get a cheap slice and do a little people watching. It can be hard to find a seat, especially at lunchtime or late night, but in general I've had success. Just be sure to look at the table before sitting. Chances are you'll need to give it a cursory wipe with a napkin.

I like the variety found at Antonio's. They certainly don't make it easy for you to choose. That being said, the pizza itself is decent. I don't think its expensive, in fact, it's reasonably priced considering all they are topped with. Given the choices on Thayer, I always come to Antonio's. Mostly because I prefer the lively ambiance (even though the one girl who was working the cash register was hit on by the most annoying guy that kept try to force me to tip her). The staff is friendly as well. So yes, I will always return.
