Review from Vi N.
I purchased a discount from Guilt City. The deal included a single color process & a blow out for $75. I checked reviews from yelpers before making my purchase.
I made an appt and was seen immediately the following day. I forgot to print out my discount, but was able to show the receptionist my voucher using my phone.
I showed up at my appt time and was seated right away. The salon is huge and definitely busy on a Saturday afternoon.
My colorist was Lindsey. She was super helpful. She explained the process to me and answered all my questions regarding color. I got the Kerastase treatment for an additional $30, which does wonders for you hair!! Ashley washed my hair and finished me off w/a great blow out!
I left feeling like a million bucks! -
Review from Ana B.
I've come to this salon twice and was quite disappointed with my hair colorist-- Michael (lady). I told her that I wanted the the red undertones gone from my brown hair. I told her I hated RED. She said "Sure, no problem". She seemed confident and I was happy thinking that I would have a lovely ashy brown and would not see any red.
Well, I've got news for ya!!! My hair looked the SAME as when I walked in the salon. As if nothing had actually happened. The red tones were still there. Nothing. All the same. I just paid a woman to dye my hair to make it look the same. I felt really foolish.
When I explained my dissatisfaction to Michael, she seemed horrified that I wasn't happy with her work. Pfftt glorified colorist. She wasn't apologetic for her lack of communication. As a matter of fact, her apology seemed forced and she gave me an attitude. Something along the lines of "I'm sorry you FEEL that way" as opposed to admitting she made an error. She said to me it would be impossible to remove the red undertones unless she bleached my entire hair or if she did a full set of highlights to blend the tones.....So then why the heck didn't she tell me this BEFORE she died my hair and I wasted my money on a single process?????? Also, if she couldn't remove the red undertones from my hair, why in the world would I let her bleach my hair?! Is she nuts?
It breaks my heart to give this salon two stars. The only reason they are getting two stars is because the staff is nice and Ben does an amazing blow out.
This is what I get for trying other salons. I'm going back to Red Market Salon. -
Review from Janel Y.
Got a blowout under the apprentice program and it was perfect! I was seen immediately and once I was seated in the chair, told the student what I wanted.
What I think is great about signing up to be a guinea pig for the apprentice program, is that you get to hear the teaching about how to do blowouts, what brush to use, how to hold the blow dryer and what products to use. I'm a curious cat, so all this information was cool and useful for me, but if you're in a rush and could careless, I'd avoid signing up to be a hair model.
My apprentice-in-training was awesome. He was friendly, informative, knew what he was doing/when to ask for help (from the 2 instructors) and was professional. He did a fantastic job and I got exactly what I wanted: straight and sleek.
The whole process took an hour and I'm glad I decided to be a guinea pig! -

Color + Lindsay = Awesome. Perfect blonde that I never have to pull the blue shampoo out to maintain.
Scissors + Jennifer = Great haircut. FINALLY.
Blow Out - Brenna or Ben, it lasts three days!
Shampoo - Elle.
I LOVE THIS SALON. -

I was referred here be a friend and am really glad I went here. I'd been looking for a place in NYC to get a haircut for about a month after just moving here, and she said this was the best!
Had a great haircut from Brenna on Friday. she listened and offered suggestions, and I left feeling like a million bucks. Got a ton of compliments from my friends as well.
The staff is really nice and accommodating, and I'll definitely be back there to get my color done.
It is a bit pricey, but worth it! -

I love coming to see John 0 for my blonde highlights. I've been coming to him for for about 2 years now and I'm so happy that I found him. He listens, offers appropriate advice, and executes immaculately. I would recommend his services to anybody who wants great color!
The salon itself is nice as well. Its easy to make appointments and everyone is very nice. Their reminder emails are great too!
Highly recommended! -

I do their apprentice program here for long layered hair cuts and have never walked away disappointed. I have been going here for three years and will keep going back because it is such a great experience every time!

I am embarrassed to say that this is my first review (especially since I've been reading & trusting Yelp for years!) I had such a great experience at this salon that I'm compelled to finally start.
I bought the Groupon on a whim and came in for a haircut with Garrett. I have to say that all of these reviews about him are right on. He knew exactly what my hair needed without much direction from me at all! Plus he was warm, friendly and fun to chat with. He gave me a cut that invigorated some much needed life into my hair. I walked out super happy (with new bouncy long layers) and definitely plan to go back to Garrett again.
Overall, the salon was upscale yet not pretentious at all. Relaxing, spa-like environment (a shoulder massage was even added on to my Kerastase treatment) and helpful staff. I highly recommend! -

I have been a customer of the salon on and off for the last few years and have had one or two people there cut and style my hair (great results) but have been going to Jen now (happy that she transitioned from being apprentice as it is well deserved). The service is incredible and you definitely get more then you pay for!! For anyone looking for a reliable hair salon in the city, this is it!!

Bought the Groupon after seeing good reviews here -- and it did not disappoint!
Garrett cut my hair then blew it out for me, and it looked amazing (though a few people told me it looked like a wig, or like Marlo Thomas). I waited till I washed & dried it at home, revealing its natural, poodle-y texture, before reviewing -- happily, it looks as awesome both ways!
The curls are springy and healthy and the shape compliments the texture. Thanks, Garrett! -
Review from Holly S.
My sister discovered Nick when he was apprenticing, and I told her I need to meet the artist who created her look. It's been total hair euphoria ever since. Nick is a creative genius who turns out the perfect chic, modern look that's best for you. I am finally thrilled with my hair style for the first time ever. Never choppy or uneven, my cut holds it's shape for 3-4 months. I can literally wake up, run my fingers through my long mane, and walk out the door looking great.
I had major trust issues with colorists until I met Jill. She's the first colorist I've ever met who GETS IT. She doesn't push highlights, red tones, blond streaks, or any other faddish or horrifying looks. My color never fades and my hair remains shiny and healthy.
The salon is upscale and modern, yet manages to escape the usual pretense at most salons of its class. The vibe is mellow and creative. The salon sells Kerastase products which work wonders for my hair.
BONUS: They have a voyeuristic bathroom with a reverse mirror so you can see out into the salon, but they can't see you. -
Review from Meg K.

Finally a great haircut! I have lived in NYC for 4 years and this is the first good haircut I found!
Nick cut my hair and he was fabulous. I brought in a picture of what I wanted, and he made some adjustments after the blow dry. I got a long angled bob type cut, which I never had before and I was worried about!
The only thing weird is the bathroom, from the outside it looks like a mirror, but from the inside its like glass so you can see out to the whole salon. I was too uncomfortable to pee :)
Also they not only sell, but they also use Kerastase products! yes, lots of salons sell their products, but most don't use them. I was very pleased because I love kerastase!

Review from Violet S.

I am amazed by the good reviews for this salon, since my experience was the complete opposite.
I have had my color done at many of the finest salons in NYC.
(Sharron Dorram at John Freida, Eva Scrivo, Wonderland in the Meatpacking district, Simadi salon and several independent colorists, to name but a few.
I am stating this, because of all the colorists I have been to, and all the different salons - never once in my entire life, have I had to have my color immediately redone.
I asked for "baby blonde" hair....you know, the kind that is natural looking and sunkissed.
What I got was "Rainbow Brite" orange hair, which looked hideous.
One of the weirdest things about this salon, is their lighting.
It's beautiful....for a cocktail lounge or your living room.
But it's the dimmest lighting I have ever seen in any salon, and it's impossible to tell how your color looks in dim lighting.
I called later that day, after I had seen my hair in some different lighting, and I explained to the manager that I was unhappy.
She said that she prefers to have the girl who originally did the color fix it.
(so that she will learn.)
I was hesitant, but said, "Okay."
I went back, and the girl highlighted the heck out of it to get the orange toned down, and when it was done, my hair looked "Day-Glo."
It is so bright...actually, white - that Gwen Stefani would look like a brunette by comparison.
I am totally unhappy with my experience there.
I should also note that unlike most salons I have been to, the blowout is NOT included with color. (another disappointment after spending all that money.) -

Was referred here by a friend (with GREAT hair, I should add) and immediately booked an appointment, spending the 2 weeks before my first appointment dreaming of having the kind of hair that falls, in a luxurious shiny sheet, down my back in ripples. Call me the Panteen Pro V girl.
I was not disappointed.
Jaselynn is by far the most talented little thing to wield scissors in Manhattan. I've referred everyone I know to her at this point. The prices are also not outrageous for a salon of this caliber. I believe around $120 for a cut and blow out. Add $30 if you want the Kerastase treatments (which will make your hair like corn silk for weeks). -

I've been getting my hair dont here for a few years. Pavel and Kristin are great. The overall service is amazing as well. Prices are way high but it is NYC so I can't complain too much.

I dub Nick "Greek God of Hair"
I don't know how he does it, but I'm glad he does. My hair looks fantastic. I don't even have to blow dry it and it looks great. The day before my next cut it looks great- longer, but still great!
Plus, Nick is an artist. He cuts for my personality, not some other being he wants to create. That's really valuable, because not only do I look awesome, I feel comfortable in my own skin...or hair. I'm really happy that I FINALLY found a stylist I trust! -

Thumbs up!
Prices are pretty consistent with higher end salons, the standouts being:
1- Nice, sliky brown robes (made me feel right at home in that spa, soft bunny slippers kind of way).
2- Gorgeous spa like decor with limestone and rich brown leather seats.
3 - Calming environment. The chairs are far enough apart that it doesn't feel chaotic and you're not accidentally evasdropping on someone else's conversation.
I had a great chat and cut with Nick. He took the time to listen to what I wanted to achieved and executed well. Even did my blowout to boot. 2 Thumbs up. -

Kenji is the man. I have been going to Kenji for the last eight years. I left NYC five years ago and I still go to him for haircuts whenever I travel to the City. He was recommended to me as a specialist in Asian hair, but he is great with all types of hair according to my (non-asian) friends whom I referred to him.
He's also just a really really cool guy.
The salon itself is modern, clean, and convenient. But they don't give the amazing massages like Kenji's old salon Hayato and its a little pricey. But its worth it. -

Angela Taormino is the color director at this salon and you should not let that title fool you - not only is she simply the best colorist I've ever been to in 17 years of professional hair color (wow, that's almost half my life) but she cuts my hair with a precision and style that I've never experienced before sitting in her chair.
Angela has shepherded me from a misguided close crop grow-out to my signature shoulder length and from a botched "golden" blonde hair mess to sexy, cool blonde highlights.
My hair has never looked better. -

A beautiful salon with great customer service. If you need a styling, consider Jasellynne. She is talented, flexible, imaginative, and really nice to talk to. I was so pleased with my hair for a formal event.
My only criticism is that the salon's scheduling could be improved. I had styles done on two consecutive days. The first day, my appointment with Gil did not start until 20 minutes late because he ran late on another client. The second day, Jasellynne was prompt but I came with a friend and her stylist was almost 40 minutes late. I hope they can improve this tardiness problem because otherwise this is a really great salon. I'm glad I found it. -

I moved to NYC in July and have tried a few places where I haven't been totally happy. I looked at Yelp and Antonio Prieto was very well reviewed. Garrett was mentioned in at least one of the reviews so I decided to go for it knowing it was going to be more expensive than what I've been doing. I called and was able to get in the next day.
I got to the salon and was greeted warmly, my coat taken and introduced to Garrett and Melissa, my shampoo-er. I was asked if I'd like a drink. Nice chat with Melissa while washing my hair and I enjoyed the upscale atmosphere.
In the chair with Garrett, he really surveyed my head, face and hair. He asked how I would like it and he was off. We had a really nice chat. He's fun and open but kept it professional. Clip clip clip. I could tell he was taking great care with what he was doing.
After he was done cutting, he rinsed my hair and then styled. Presto! I LOVED it. People often wonder if a higher priced hair cut is worthwhile and my answer is YES for this one. It was a cut above (sorry for the pun).
Cut was $114 and worth every penny. Garrett said he was just written up about being a 23 year old senior stylist which I believe. Go see Garrett! -
Review from Cara A.
I'm flummoxed by the glowing reviews for Antonio Prieto. Maybe I should have better articulated what I wanted and didn't want. But I'm far from in love with the haircut I got here from Nick. I always wondered why people would complain later "I don't like it!" or "she cut my hair too short!" but I sort of understand now. It can be hard to tell what's going down in the middle of the process, or even that same day. But the next day, I had a moment of panic about looking like a soccer mom, and I just don't feel like "me" with this cut. Hmmph. I'd be embarrassed to go back to AP and ask for a revision -- just didn't feel super comfortable there. And I am too sheepish to go to my most recent "usual" hair cutter, since I cheated on him for the sake of a groupon. Ah well. Live and learn. It's only hair and it will grow. Right? Right.

Ummmm where the hell did Dan go?!?!!? He was absolutely amazing with my hair! Like, life changing amazing.
But those haircuts are too damn expensive and I can only go when they have promotions (never).
So, why only 1 star, you may ask? Well, when I called the salon to make an appointment, I was informed that Dan is no longer there. When I asked where he went, I was given a snarky "I don't know." When I asked if there's someone there who knows, I was given a snarky "I don't know. Can I put you on hold?"
Another receptionist picked up and I asked, yet again, "Do you know which salon Dan went to?" Another "I don't know." This time, she put me on hold without warning. I hung up. Come on, people. You're in the service industry. And it's 3 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon. Not exactly rush hour.
Instead of trying to book me with another stylist, these people were completely rude and lost a customer. In the meantime, I'm still on my search for Dan.... -

I've come here for services under the apprentice program. I've had haircolor by Lindsay and a cut by Jen, and they are both excellent. I've not been back in a while due to many factors, the main one being that I tend to change my game plan with my hair with some frequency, but I can definitely say with assurance I've had a good experience here, and surely will be back.

Read the reviews here, and decided to give it a shot. I tried the Academy Hair cuts -- went to the salon to book an appointment, and they give you the option of the 3 tiers. They had one person per tier at the time. I choose the highest, which was $70 for a haircut. They put a hold on your credit card for the amount, but you pre-pay in cash when you come in for your actual appointment.
My stylist was Garrett, who was really nice and great. He listened to what I wanted, and then we both agreed on how he was going to cut my hair. He did try to sell me some product and add'l services (think they're required to), but he wasn't pushy about it at all. Overall, I really liked how he cut my hair. Bang trims are also available for $15. -

Familiar story for some but here it goes.... Little girl is born with very coarse, curly hair. Little girl relaxes hair entire life in an effort to have it blow in the wind. Little girl grows up and starts to admire curls and hate straight hair. Little girl lost, moves to NYC, searches for salon to cut most of hair (relaxer) off. Fast forward to young woman finding Antonio's salon and getting the best cut ever! Big kisses to Brian for knowing how to wrangle a black woman's hair. Last week I went and got an amazing color service also. Going to this salon is like going on a beauty excursion inside the city...treat yourself!!!

The staff here is super friendly and nice, and they do a great job. I've only gotten haircuts here but I've always been very happy with the results. The salon itself looks super sleek and cool and they have great products. It's great b/c it's not as pricey as a John Sahag salon but you're still getting quality service.

I am not sure what the hype is.. with such raving reviews versus the outcome of my haircut..
It's a very trendy hair salon, but not very friendly. No massage at all while getting the shampoo. I had Nick to cut my hair, who was a nice guy. He seemed to listen to my request but I didn't really like my haircut.
With so many deals offering from various websites, I doubt I would come back. -

I'm sad to write a bad review but I had a terrible experience there. I actually looked like Mrs. Brady when I walked out. They overcut my hair and although (edgy I guess) it was supper long in the back and super short in front. B/c they are a professional salon when I went back that next day asking them to fix it - they tried, but weren't happy about it. For some they are probably great, but just know EXACTLY what you want, pictures and all, before entering or it could turn into a disaster.

I was shuffled around for 6 hours between different
stylists for all over color and a trim. The result was
boring and lackluster. I could have done better dyeing
it myself. I had a friend who is a hairstylist fix it afterward.
What a waste of time and money. Go here if you like
rude receptionists, who are disorganized and hairstylists
who don't respect your time or what you ask for. -

Looking for an edgy, short haircut? You'd probably pass by a place like Prieto and think it wasn't for you - like many salons at the same price point, when you go in, you see a sea of long-haired women and their very particular styling concerns.
I'm not like that. I have a short, modern haircut that needs love every five weeks. It's evolved into a look that gets several compliments a week, religiously, and I have my Prieto stylist Pavel to thank for that.
If you want heads to turn when you walk down the street, if you want to free yourself of salon anxiety, if you want a place where they treat you nice and play cool music and spare you the attitude, try Prieto. -

Worst haircut I've ever had. Jen is very sweet but doesn't know how to cut (short) hair. Choppy, poorly shaped, and a head full of what looks like split ends. A struggle every morning..can't wait for it to grow out so I can get a decent haircut somewhere else.

Great salon. Super chic but without the better-than-though attitude. I saw Kenji and he was amazing. I usually hate the awkward banter when you get your hair cut, but with him it was the opposite. It was just having a great conversation, but then at the end you suddenly have a great haircut to boot! I came here because of the Groupon deal and although I have a few more Groupons at other various salons to try still, I will definitely consider coming back here at full price.
