I haven't been to any of the other Antone's locations but I imagine since they've fancied up the name by adding the words "market "and "cafe" they're trying to make this store a bit more upscale (sounding) than their other "Po'Boy" shops. The prices certainly are upscale. $9.00+ for a sandwich. $12.00+ for a salad. $7.00 for a bag of spaghetti!?!

There's not much of a market to this store just some jars of marinara and a few bags of assorted (expensive) dry pasta. We went in for a sandwich and ended up getting two shrimp po-boys (over $9 each) and a soda. They use a nice baguette, the shrimp was nicely breaded and fried and it was seasoned and spicy. Instead of lettuce and tomato they use a cabbage slaw to keep things moist and together (I'd just prefer a mayo and pickle dressing with lettuce and tomato). Served with fries it was a heavy meal but overall it wasn't very impressive and I wouldn't run back for another po-boy. Initially I had wanted an Italian sub and I might go back and get one out of their chilled case of pre-made subs but don't they sell those at Exxon stations too? Why make the special trip to Antone's?

However, they had a margarita pizza that sounded worth trying and there's a cute little patio for when the weather is nice. Maybe someday I'll stop in again but really if I want a salad or sandwich I could just get one at Whole Foods across the street and it *might* even be a little less expensive.

So the ridiculous prices and upscale location killed Antone's! About a week ago, my coworkers noticed the sign was taken down and the windows were boarded up. What a shame.

First thing first, the price is a bit ridulous for a sandwich. But what can you expect, it's in… Read more »
