Tasty mexican food for cheap!  Handmade tortillas are the way to go.  Service was nice, although seating is limited.

    What we had:
    Beef Gordita
    Grilled Chicken Tacos
    Carne Asada Tacos
    Shrimp Empanadas

Going back for their pork chops and quesadillas!

I really like this place! Delicious, fresh, inexpensive food, warm and friendly service, and they even have a nice little curbside dining area in the shade. I had the Ceviche tostada ($4.99 for a generous portion of flavorful fish or shrimp ceviche with fresh tomatoes, cucumber, onion, and avocado) and a crunchy potato taco (also very good). Can't wait to try out the rest of the menu.

I kept driving by this place so one day I decided to give it a try. Very pleasantly surprised. The service as good ad the hand made tortillas were great. I love their pork tacos , my fav.  Too bad that it was a weekday and there was no pozole.  Boo hoo hoo.  Well , just going to have to come back during the next weekend to try it out.  We ordered the lengua and the brisket tacos. I thought the lengua was a little dry but the brisket rocked. I was surprised that they didn't have cabeza my other fav.

    Sooo you're visiting SoCal, eh?

Obviously you'll need to experience some genuine, homegrown Mexican fare.

Allow me to introduce Antojitos Guerrero. Their tortillas are thick, savory and partially made of crack (seriously). I tried the Carbenas quesadilla aka "squash blossom" which was a veggie cheese explosion served with a small salad topped with tomatoes & creamy dressing. Oh yeah.

There's absolutely ZERO uncertainty surrounding authenticity - let's just say their menu doesn't even come in English.

Interestingly, this place just went under new management (and by "just" I mean like, 6 days ago) and it's now run by a husband and wife team. The husband is super sweet and really devoted to customer satisfaction. He even gave us free samples of the Huitlacoche (cornsmut) quesadilla - a flavorful, rich mushroom paste that is TO DIE FOR.

May I also mention that my quesadilla was a mere $3? Helllllo, bargain diner.

This is the real deal. Just wish they had a larger seating area.

I really had high hopes for this place. I drive by every day on my way to work and I live 5 mins away. A classic hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant (the best kind, we can all agree) that unfortunately left a lot to be desired.

We ordered a carne asada wet burrito and a carne asada taco plate. I found that a lot of the items that came with these were somewhat bland and flavorless. The meat was of a poor quality and especially flavorless. The final straw was when we brought home our food and I opened up the container of sour cream only to find that it had a slight pinkish hue and tasted just as bad as it looked. I'm so glad I ordered it on the side. Overall, not the worst Mexican place I've eaten at but I don't think I'll be going back.

    The search continues.

I work but a few miles away from this place and I'm constantly stopping here to eat. Why?

The service is great, the food is tasty and everything is reasonably priced. Also, I love that they cater to my vegetarian needs. I highly recommend the cheese enchiladas with green sauce and the chilaquiles.

Their chips and salsa are always fresh and delicious. I love this place.

Oh and their juices are also pretty good. I like the orange-beet-carrot mix. YUM!

If you appreciate good Mexican food this is one of those places you'll find yourself going back to, WHY?....because they "keep it real" a small family restaurant serving up good food, I come here often and have tried many of their dishes but unfortunately this is one in which I really did not care for.

Chile Relleno oh how I love a good chile relleno unfortunately I've not found any better than my wife's, first off a lot of ""Mexican"" restaurants use ahaheim the gabacho's chile which is not correct, a chile relleno should be made with a poblano chile and then stuffed with a variety of cheeses or meat depending on the region of Mexico you are from or in.

At Antojitos Guerrero they do use a chile poblano so for this visit that's what I ordered http://www.yelp.com/bi...

I found the sauce for the chile to have nice flavor but did not like their choice for filling which was "Cotija Cheese", cotija for those of you who are not familiar is like  "queso fresco" except has a distinct salty taste, and like queso fresco it's more of a toppings cheese. It does NOT melt and when heated it had a rubbery texture which is not very appealing, at least to me http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Although I'd not recommend the chile relleno from here they do have many other 4+ star dishes and if your in the area I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND you pay the nice ladies a visit.

Came here with a friend who was doing some errands in Highland Park... My first Mexican meal after returning from Asia!

An aside- the ONE type of food I really miss when I'm in Asia is Mexican food! Almost everything else (Italian, French, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Indian, American, even Soul Food!) can be found relatively easily in major cities, but the same cannot be said about Mexican food. It is truly a delight we Southern Californians take for granted!

But back to Antojitos Guerrero! We were originally coming here for birria, a delicious goat stew, but it's only available on the weekends. In lieu of that, we ordered some barbacoa tacos, the Tuesday special red chicken dish (forgot the name), a milanesa torta, and some cheese pupusas.

Everything was hearty and flavorful- the tacos were HUGE and overflowing with meat! The torta was the size of a bear paw, and that's AFTER we cut it in half! While I miss the quality of Chinese food in Taiwan and China, it's meals like this that make me feel glad to be home!

I will be back again... Gotta get me some birria!

Morning after Halloween and I woke up STARVING!
I told my Mr. Big that we were definitely going to have some breakfast before he took me home, cause my stomach had been growling since the night before.

We were driving down York Blvd and he happened to notice how trendy this area of my neighborhood has become. He said he was in the mood for outdoor seating, but not like Panini in your face outdoor seating, more like Menudo in your face outdoor seating. He made me laugh, and I thought about the right place.

My mom comes and buys menudo from here every now and then, when she doesn't feel like having to prepare it the night before.
So we stopped by Antojitos Guerrero, and found a very convenient parking spot right in front of the restaurant.

The place was not jam packed but it was a busy morning for them. We walked in and I immediately asked if they accepted credit cards, and just as I thought, No. So please be advised this place is CASH ONLY. Good thing we had some cash from the change we got back at the hotel. So it was no problem.

We placed our order. We got an order of Ham & Eggs, and Machaca. Machaca is shredded beef with eggs. Both our plates came with rice and beans, and yummy warm hand made yellow corn tortillas. My favorite, just like they have them in San Diego.

They also make fresh squeezed juices for you, but unfortunately they were out of fruits to make juices and they happen to have my absolute favorite; Orange and Carrot juice. But oh well, what can you do? I still enjoyed my meal.

They have nice portions. Not too big not too small, but it was definitely filling. I had some leftover food, as for my Mr. Big, well he ate it all. We both enjoyed our breakfast. Food was hot, and delicious. This place definitely impressed my Mr. Big. And he was glad it was a Menudo in your face outdoor seating type of place. LOL

Some friends and I stopped by for some tacos after a visit to Galco's Sodapop Shop (about 30 seconds away). The service was great, the pricing was reasonable, and the food was amazing.  I ordered the 4 tacos with assorted meats, but their al pastor was easily my favorite.  Be sure to ask for the handmade tortillas, as they are phenomenal.

My coworker who is local to this area brought me here.
Ordered 2 huaraches (chicken and beef) which were delicious. I had to pack the second one to go because it was larger than I imaginged. I didn't even mind the beans and I don't care for beans. Add mexican pepsi and I'm sold.

    pros:
    tasty food
    generous portions
    cashier/waitress was very nice
    mexican (sugar not HFCS) pepsi

This place blew my mind.  Goat/birria is why I come here and I have yet to try anything in LA that matches it for flavor and value.  The folks behind the counter are genuinely nice and helpful.  Service is attentive and thoughtful.  The serving side leans toward the "I'll Take A Box Home" side of the spectrum.  I recommend anything with meat.  It is more of a lunch, afternoon, and evening type of place and closes at 8 pm most nights--though it pays to call ahead if you're running against the clock.

I was in Pasadena last night was going 2 meet a friend for dinner, and had a craving for really good mexican food, so i got in phone and look up wholes in the wall in Pasadena. Read the reviews and decided to go here, with pretty high expectations, so here's a summary of our dinner.
    - Chips and Salsa- Green salsa was good and spicy, the red salsa was also pretty tasty.  One star
    - Quesadilla de Flor de Calabasa (Squash Flower quesadilla)- Bad, really, bad. Flor de Calabasa is a mexican delicatenesses, and there i sa HUGE difference from fresh natural ones to the can version. The quesadilla was bad cause they used the canned flor de calabasa, and the tortilla had too much cal (i don't know how to translate that, but it's basically a white powder that they add to the tortilla masa), which made them bitter
    - Carne Asada plate- Hey is this meat or a really big chicle... yes i know paying under 10 bucks for meat i should not expect top of the line, but at least something that i can swallow right? And the meat had no real flavor :(.
-Birria en Consome- Now that was good, that's what saved the night. The birria and the consome was very tasty. There two more stars

So i will not be making the drive to this spot again. Dear fellow yelpers I've been disappointed again

I decided to stray from my default cheap eats place, Huarache Azteca, to check out Antojitos Guerrero.  The huitlacoche painted above the doorway sparked my interest but the milanesa torta on the menu (which Huarache does not serve) held me captive.  Prices were a tad higher than Huarache (by $1) but it was well worth it, plus you get freshly made chips and the smoky red salsa was excellent.  The torta came with fresh tomatoes, lettuce and avocado and the milanesa breading was well seasoned.  In addition to the usual Mexican fare they also serve Salvadoran pupusas.  I'm looking forward to returning to try out the freshly made thick tortillas I saw at a neighboring table.

Maybe my favorite place in Highland Park right now. I've never had anything less than excellent. I know Jonathan Gold raves about the other antojitos place just down the street (Antojitos Chilango). But to me Guerrero trumps it on several levels. Atmosphere is much warmer, very neighborhood, very down home. It also wins in comparisons of common dishes--especially the gorditas, which are comfort food raised to a transcendent level. I could easily eat here several times a week.

If you find yourself on York Blvd in Highland Park early on a Saturday morning pop in here for handmade tortillas, delicious birria (a chile spiced goat soup) or barbacoa, beef steamed with chiles for a wonderfully tasty dish. The menu is varied; try everything. And when the Boulevard is quiet and uncrowded and the always gracious Ruby is sneaking you samples she thinks you might enjoy, you'll have another of those tiny moments that remind you of how lucky you are to have all of LA to wander through.

Went back and tried the: Sopes, Enchiladas, and tacos. GIANT portions for a price that makes even the thriftiest person not question getting take out. Tried the pork finally too... great flavor (probably due to the incorporated grizzle - chew carefully!). The food is SO filling. You get way more than your money's worth. Stoked!

My family is from Guadalajara and Colima so I've NEVER had Mexico City-style Mexican food and I wasn't sure what to expect, but after reading all the Yelp reviews for Antojitos Guerrero, the hubby and I decided to go...and being that I live 2 blocks away we went this past Saturday.

We weren't sure if it was open since they don't really have an OPEN sign, and the "dining area" to the side was physically open, but all the chairs were up on the tables as if they were closed. One of the people standing in the side doorway ushered us in and told us that everything there was delicious. We walked in and looked over the menu, The menu is not really that extensive, but WAS varied.

I decided on the chorizo pupusas (not a Mexican dish but they looked good) and a carne asada huarache. The pupusas were good and came with a side of curtido, but (either they forgot, or don't have it) didn't include the typical red sauce that goes with pupusas.  The huarache was excellent...and HUGE. I will go back, if just for those!
The hubby decided on the chorizo quesadilla...and, as mentioned on other reviews for Antojitos Guerrero, D.F. food doesn't have flour tortillas...it was made on a HUGE hand-made corn tortilla. The flavor was reminiscent of breakfast! IT WAS DELICIOUS! It came with a side of rice and beans, but he said that the quesadilla would have been enough to fill him.
I made a big mistake here, though...The kids weren't up for Mexican food so when I saw hamburgers on the menu and I ordered  that for the kids. The fries were great but the burgers were horrible!!! The meat was flavorless and overcooked and dried out and the buns were burned on the inside (they were "toasted" on the grill)...but when you come to a place like this you DON'T go for the hamburgers! The burgers came with a soda, which was in a can, but the hubby and I both ordered an Agua Fresca...I got the sandia and he got the jamaica. Both were good.

They also sell desert here but they are those terrible prepacked flanes and gelatinas so I wouldn't order that from here either.

I think next time I'll order the Pozole (which is my ultimate FAVORITE Mexican stew) and a chorizo quesadilla.

I would definitely come here again and would recommend it to anyone who likes D.F. style Mexican food.

The staple hangover spot for me given its 2 blocks away and my head wants to split open at the thought of driving. Sit back on the outside table with a mexican coke, some chicken and beef huaraches and nurse yourself back to the living. Also great for me is there milanesa and huevos con chorizo.  Hand made tortillas and a great green chile with your chips. Finally they take card!
