This is ABSOLUTELY my FAVORITE ice cream place in the Buffalo area.... maybe any area.... and this girl LOVES her ice cream! The frozen stuff as well as the sauces and the whipped cream are all home made. And that whipped cream is the stuff of which dreams are made. Sweet, but not too sweet. The perfect consistency. I could eat a big ol' bowl of just that and leave perfectly happy.

There are many inventive ice cream flavors and sundae combinations, but I'm most happy with my usual: "The Chipped Chocolate": huge scoops of both vanilla and chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce (believe it, or not, I'm not a huge fan of hot fudge... weird, I know), a mountain of whipped cream, and chocolate shreds (from their very own candy shoppe chocolate). There's nothing better!

I always stop in here on the most random of nights, and it always makes me happy. Antoinette's is a true ice cream parlor with unique flavors, hefty portions and smiling staff. And they serve you a glass of water with your ice cream - they know what's up.

My favorite flavor: Orange Sponge Candy.

It is extremely deadly living so close to Antoinette's.  I have to make sure to control myself since I drive by it 10 times a day.

I will say that the people from around here talk it up like it is heaven in a dish, and it is good, but I think many people are disappointed because of the way it is hyped up.

They have some very unique flavors, all made on site, especially the cinnamon.  But my favorite is the sponge candy, I'll give that a heaven on earth review!

My husband and I stopped in here on a visit to see his parents in Elma for some ice cream.  We split a banana split, which was all right - my husband had raved about the ice cream, so frankly I was disappointed.  It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything spectacular or memorable either, which is what I had been expecting after he talked it up so much.  I also found the decor pretty depressing - everything is dark and drab.  Just painting the walls a lighter color would go a long way towards making it feel more inviting inside.

We did get some white chocolate candies to go, which were really rich and delicious.  This is definitely the place to go if you're looking for chocolate goodies - the store was overflowing with tons of chocolate molded into a ton of different stuff - from rabbits to crosses to turtles, and a bunch of small candies as well.

There are some things about Buffalo that you just won't find out until you date a Buffalonian.

They celebrate a holiday called 'The Sweetest Day' which is in October, and is like the half-way house for those who just can't handle waiting for Valentine's Day. Just in case you're curious http://en.wikipedia.or...

Anyway, I had my first taste of sponge candy on this momentous holiday.

What is sponge candy you ask? Well, it's food porn, plain and simple. It's puffed, crunchy, melty, malty sugar sponge encased in thick milk chocolate. Just like the Sweetest Day it's only popular in the Great lakes region, and unfairly so because it's one of the most delicious things in the world.

Antoinette's version of this treat makes other sponge candies cry and hide in the darkest of corners because they know they can't compete with the luscious indulgent deliciousness.

They also have an amazing selection of candies and chocolate of all sorts - I think they make their own chocolate.

But if you're going to try one thing try the sponge candy. It's so good it hurts. They ship candy between the months of October and April. I'll be placing an order shortly.

This place is a family favorite. My parents rented an apartment across the street back in the 70s when they were first married, and they used to come here every Saturday night for a vanilla milkshake (dad) and sundae (mom). They loved the place so much that even after they moved a half hour away, they would still make the trek back for the ice cream. As a result, us kids also love Antoinettes. As far as we can tell, their high quality has not diminished at all over the course of 30+ years.

Their sundaes are amazing. They start with delicious home-made ice cream (14% butter fat makes it not for the faint of heart!), and have all sorts of delicious home made toppings. My favorite is the butter rum, but everything is good. I generally skip the whip cream. It's home made, and like everything else here, super fatty. I just find that the taste (which is lacking) isn't worth the fat content.

But if you come for a sundae, you better bring your appetite. Their three and five scoop sundaes could easily feed 2-4 people. When I brought my west-coast born husband here for the first time, he couldn't finish his measly two scoop sundae. Lame. So I ate it for him, and finished all of mine :-D

I came into Antoinette's Sweets to pick up a thank you gift for a friend.  I decided on their chocolate fudge.  The saleswoman was very pleasant, in a laidback kind of way.  She even took the time to gift wrap the fudge when I told her it was a gift.  You can't beat that.  The shop itself is very cute, with a huge selection.  They make all of their chocolate on location, too.  The fudge itself was creamy and sweet.

For about $10 per pound of fudge, one might think that expensive.  However, I think the quality matches their price.

Still topping their sundaes and other soda fountain favorites with real fresh whipped cream, this store is well known throughout Bufffalo.

There is a large candy and seasonal section and all of the ice cream is home made.  Plenty of tables to sit at and always plenty of servers at the counter so you do not have to wait too long to order and be served.

No table service but a fresh glass of water comes with each order and during Easter the amount and variety of molded bunnies and eggs are wonderous to look at.

The girls here will let you choose what you want in a pound of chocolates in a box for take away or gift giving.

    Giftwrap free.

The best ice cream sundaes around. Homemade chocolates, made by the same family for about 100 years. Great people. I never miss it when I visit Buffalo. If I visit Buffalo and come back without sponge candy, I am in major trouble with my wife.

There is another location, but I like this one for the nostalgic feel.

When I receive holiday care packages from my NY family members with the trademark gift wrapped one pound box of Sponge Candy heaven inside, instant joy and elation is mine!
