I fell on a concrete retaining wall the other day and cracked my ribs. Well, actually I probably only bruised them; but they hurt enough to be cracked. I can't even sneeze without falling helpless to my knees. To top it off, I haven't been able to excercise...something that takes a fair amount of time each day.
AND SO, I've been reading the NYTimes. In the food section they described a local chocolate factory. Needing gifts for family and colleagues, I decided to check the East Norriton factory out. WOW! I reserved a spot in the last tour of the season and, while sipping an amazing cup of hot chocolate got a tour lead by the owner himself, Antoine Amrani.
Every chocolate is made by hand ... the Amrani STENCIL on the top the chocolates is hand pressed on there...they have a revolving plate, much like a huge lazy susan filled with the best cocoa where they place the truffles and gently....very gently (Antoine demonstrated) dust each truffle with their fingers.... and on and on. It's very impressive.
How's the chocolate? Devine! I'm a caramel nut..no pun intended, and these caramels, complete with a tiny dash of sea salt on top of the dark chocolate-enrobed Nut and Honey caramel , are to die for. I'm cheap too. So spending a minimum of $13 on a box of six chocolates or a bag of caramels is not something I do lightly; but spend I did. And I'd do it again in a heartbeat. -

Ah ha, the word is out: this place delivers the goods!
Antoine Amrani combines the very best ingredients to create the finest chocolates. For this you pay a price: over $2.00 a chocolate, so it's something to enjoy in moderation; perhaps after a lovely dinner with someone special.
Despite the price, this is the kind of treat that makes life so vibrant, so unique.
Antoine Amrani Chocolates is must try. Worth a detour. -

Glad to see a high-end chocolatier open shop in this part of the burbs. However, at over $2/piece, I hope they make it if they are counting purely on local support. I know they are looking for corporate gift buyers and I hope they find some soon.
They have a 7,000 sq ft facility and are going to be providing chocolate tours soon, which should be fun. I have seen how they make chocolate and pastiers behind the seens at at Le Bec and Lacroix and while both are high quality operations, I think the Lacroix versions are a bit more flavorful.
We got a 17 box sampler and a mini molten chocolate cake. The cake was good, but not overly decadent and my wife said she liked the version I make, which uses more chocolate.
Chocolates were good though some flavors like the pistachio were sadly not as pronounced as I would have liked. -

This place is worth looking for as it is not in any shopping area and I don't think anyone would stumble upon it. But there is a French chocolatier who is making exceptional candies in this little place in E. Norriton, PA.
Their quality standards are beyond belief and the candies are DELICIOUS. I loved them all but if I had to pick my current favorite it would be their "Vampire Bites". I'm told that they will still be available and now be called Roche or Rocher. Along with these incredible chocolates, truffles, bark, covered almonds or hazelnuts, they also make a chocolate soufflé you heat at home.
Fortunately we can shop on -line and not need to go to PA. So if you appreciate finely crafted chocolates, I highly recommend Amrani. -

The chocolates Antoine creates are INSANELY GOOD! No doubt they're a little more expensive than the average box of Whitman's but well worth the price. We went to a private chocolate and wine tasting recently at Antoine's chocolate factory... still buzzing from the deliciousity of that evening. This guy has a gift for creating new flavors of wonderful chocolate treats. If you don't have an upcoming special occasion to buy some of these chocolates for ... MAKE ONE UP!!!

We got a box of Antoine Amrani chocolates delivered to my office - YUM! Two weeks ago, I stopped by their factory store, when I was in the neighborhood and I'm so glad I did!
We were offered samples galore. As Rachel said, they do offer to split the chocolates into "tastings" ... but I get the feeling that this is because they want you to taste more than one flavor. As a matter of fact, the girl helping us was so excited about a new line of chocolate covered oranges, she insisted that we taste, even after we THOUGHT we couldn't eat another bite. Very generous and clearly love what they do there - even Chef Antoine (so handsome!!!) came out to say hello.
Needless to say . . . we were floored by everything. We walked out with their 17 piece classic box for Mom and a box each of the chocolate covered oranges and caramels!
Definitely worth the stop in to the factory - these chocolates are even better than what I had in Europe. Yes, you can get their stuff online, but if you're local make the trip. The smell of fresh chocolates being made is absolutely intoxicating!
Here's a tip - we signed up for their mailing list while we were there and have already gotten a few great coupon codes that we used for christmas gifts. -

The stuff is good. Very creative and tasty, and melts in your mouth. But way overpriced for a newbie in East Norriton. Yes, I know he's an acclaimed chocolate chef. He's getting a good start in an industrial park, but be warned, you won't pay industrial park prices for his confections. If I'm going to pay that much for chocolate, I'll stick with Teuscher....and Teuscher lets you sample whole pieces, not just a sliver like we were offered here.
