I don't think there's too much to say about this place. If a great selection of beers and tasty foods doesn't convince you then sure the service will impress you. I have never been to a mom and pop joint with such great service.
I highly recommend the meatball sandwich but if a meatball sandwich. If you're a steak guy, they sell various cuts of meat and if you want they'll even cook for you too! I ordered my steak medium rare and it was cooked to perfection!
I'd definitely recommend this place to anybody looking for good beer, great food and amazing service! -
Review from Greg S.
Antipasto's meatball sandwich has been on my radar for years. A few times I came close to it, but it wasn't until recently that I had my chance. And indeed, good things come to those who wait!
All of their other sandwiches look equally delectable, but I had my eye on the prize. I watched as they constructed the meatball sandwich; no whole meatballs on this baby, which can sometimes lead to an awkward eat. Once assembled they flattened the whole sandwich, which made me cringe. But in fact, I should have trusted Antipasto's. That flattening spread out the meatball chunks and melded it with the marinara sauce beautifully.
But how did it taste? Just plain awesome! Their homemade bread is delicious and soaks up the sauce without becoming soggy. It's a good sized sandwich also. I would suffice to say one of the best meatball sandwiches I've had the enjoyment of eating. -

Pretty good spot, just a bit different. I really liked their pasta here, their portions were huge, but a bit expensive. Me an the wifey shared a lasagna combo which came with a salad and bread. We ended up playing $14+ I believe but also buying a drink. I really think that was a bit to expensive for one type of pasta. Yes, it was good that's for sure, but I really can't always see myself paying that much every time for one thing. I came here thinking food at a bargain. They had others on the menu, but had no menu, it was more of a see and choose what you want kinda thing. I'm not to sure if these people own this place but they were fairly nice and you can tell they like to take care of their customers. I may randomly come here on and off, but I'm not to sure I'd be craving this place too much more than I would be craving another pasta spot (Pasta Promodoro). I may be back to try something new, hopefully change my mind about his place a bit more.
My rating is a bit more of a 3.5 star rating but not yet a 4 star, so don't be confused about seeing a 3 star. This place is good just not too much of my taste just yet. They also have a deli section that I have yet to try, so just maybe I'll be back soon. I like italian meat, especially cold cuts in sandwiches.Listed in: Lotsa Pasta!

This place is the bomb!! Great selection of beer, super friendly staff, and the food is to die for. The dinner menu changes which is a plus in my book. It's nice to have such a good selection of meat and support local. I'm addicted to the sandwiches.

I decided to try the meatball sandwich because of all the great reviews. Not enough sauce and way to pricy.

Came here a couple weeks ago to try what a friend said was "the best proscuitto ever".
And oh god yes, it was super tasty. Even thinking about it now I want to go back and get some. It was so thinly sliced that it makes you keep wanting more. I think that I could eat a pound of it in a sitting. We also got some spicy salami which was tasty as well, but the proscuitto... now that was some sexy cured meats.
Will come back, will bring friends, will eat a pound of meat in a single sitting. *dreamy sigh* -

Shared a Italian Sausage sandwich with a friend. The sausage was humungous! It wouldn't stay in the sandwich, kept falling out as I took each bite. The sausage was good and the sauce was well seasoned as well. We also shared the meat raviolis with their creamy tomato basil sauce. The sauce was great! The raviolis were so soft and definitely can tell they were home made. They were each filled very full with stuffing so there wasn't a lot of dough on the sides like raviolis you buy at the store. Loved the flavors. Definitely want to come back next time for a meatball sandwich.

Clam chowder, Cioppino, and spicy ribs are my favorites.
Wasn't too fond of the veggie ravioli (too mushy) and the meatballs (too dry and somewhat bland). I also didn't like the creamy tomato basil sauce--alternative to marinara that you have to request. The penne pasta that comes with the dinners are okay, nothing special.
Prices are decent. Came out to $14/person.
They have to do something about the hot meal line. Not very efficient. Granted, there were about 7 people in front of us. Have one person take orders and another prep/wrap the food. And write down the order so time isn't wasted repeating orders to the cashier. And get another register! Our wait in line was over 30 minutes and then another 5-10 while they packed up our food. -

Antipasto's never fails to deliver the best freshest deli sandwiches. I used to come here often when my kids were smaller and had 1/2 days on Wednesdays. It was our go-to middle-of-the-week treat. I just stopped by here today to grab a sandwich for my youngest - on her way to a horse show. They slice the meat to order - the sour dough rolls are made on site - still warm from the oven. Yummmmmm. You can never go wrong stopping here for lunch (or dinner!).

It felt different as soon as I walked in. Home made ravioli!!!!!! Wow heaven. Wonderful food & great atmosphere. The DeRosa family keeps old style restaurant alive. If you don't go here you are missing one of the gems of East San Jose.

I absolutely love this place! Ive been coming here since I was 18. The ambience takes me back to good ole Brooklyn and thier service is excellent. Total mom and pop.
Thier Sausage and Pepper Sandwhich as well as thier Meatball Sandwhich is scrumptious. Both sandwhiches are served on a warm, fresh baked sour dough roll. You can even buy a loaf to take home and enjoy it with butter, a good balsamic and olive oil!
The red sauce on the Meatball is savory, sweet. It must be all in the tomatoes, the color is bright as a roma tomato under the warm Itallian sun. The Itallian sauages are cooked to a perfection. The moment I sunk my teeth in the crunch of the sausage I was in heaven. It was moist and full of delicious Itallian flavor. The peppers and onions add to the tastiness. My favorite part of this sandwhich is when the juices from the sausage, peppers and onions lightly seep into the roll; omg!
They have tables on both sides of the establishment where you can enjoy the food.
The rest of the menu is great i.e. ministroni, veal, pasta, lasagna etc. There isnt anythin on the menu I dont like. I like to order the red sauce to take home. You can also find a great deli stocked with yummy procuitto, morta, salami etc. They have a grocery where you can buy all things Itallian so you can enjoy the taste of Italy in your home. -

I've been here a number of times and I keep coming back! My pour waist line =0X
Small mom and pop store. Very nice people.
There is two separate lines to order from. You can order your sandwiches and any raw meats in the case at the counter when you first walk in. All your hot foods will be ordered at the register to your right.
They do take your plastic, ignore their old school cash register. The first time I saw this, I thought they didn't take plastic. But they do =0).
Thing's I've tried that I recommend
-Penne/ Linguine with the tomato cream sauce (if you want their cream base pasta sauce, you must let them know when order, if not your pasta will come in their marinara sauce). You get a lot of pasta for what you pay for along with their yummy sourdough bread and butter. I prefer the linguine over the penne.
-Caesar salad- the most simple salad ever but I couldn't stop eating it. Just lettuce, few tomato pieces, bacon bits and their Caesar dressing. My fiance usually do not prefer Caesar dressing but he wouldn't stop eating my damn salad!
-Steak sandwich- not cooked until you order it. Freaken http://BOMB.com! It is so tender and on their sourdough bread.. its just a perfect combo.
Things I got that I will not get again
-Deli sandwiches. Their sandwiches are just okay, they do pile on the meat. I only got the salami one. It didn't stand out.
I'll be back again!! -

This mom n' pop store is great. The food is good, albeit a bit expensive if you eat here regularly. They do custom orders of meat if you get enough people to make it worth their while, and they can recommend cuts/portions if you have questions.
I typically go here for the beer. A superb selection given the space and what else they could've done with the fridge space. They have single bottles or packs depending on how good you're feeling. Pliny the Elder is on tap last I checked, and they usually have a few bottles hiding in the fridge (although now I may regret sharing that...) -

I just had the meatball sandwich and it was amazing. What's even more amazing is they have Pliny the Elder on tap. That's right, it's on tap! I just found my go-to spot. They also have bottles available. Make sure you check the hours of operation; this place isn't open late night.
In addition to the meatball sandwich, I've had their raviolis and their really good too. The food is really filling and they have a great beer selection. -

The food here is so good. You can not go wrong with anything. The service is great the the selecting of drinks goes on and on. You must try the ravioli. The shrimp salad blew my mind. There was so much shrimp and bacon I could barely see my salad, even though there was plenty of salad. Are they losing money from that dish?

I was being lazy and didn't want to cook so I surfed yelp for something to eat nearby. This place popped up and it had pretty good reviews so I decided to go order some food.
I ordered the cheese ravioli in meat sauce combo. It came with bread and a salad. The salad was nothing spectacular but the bread was very nice and soft. Now, to the main entree, the raviolis. They were DELICIOUS. The meat sauce was very flavorful and they don't skimp on the sauce either. I used the bread to sop up left over sauce. It was a bit on the expensive side but it's a place worth going to from time to time.
I will definitely be going back to try more. -

Delicious! But a little too expensive for me to eat here often.
It's a family owned deli. They're always pretty friendly even though sometimes it can get pretty packed during the lunch rush.
I don't really like buying Italian food at restaurants because my mom took Italian cooking classes and she makes hella good Italian food at home. But what my mom does not make is her own meatballs or ravioli.
So I go to Antipasto's for meatball sandwiches and their ravioli! You get to pick what kind of ravioli you want and what sauce you want. It comes with some delicious sourdough bread and butter. Their ravioli is doughy gooey goodness. However, I have been to La Villa in Willow Glen and I think their ravioli is cheesier/gooier. I do live right next to Antipasto's though so they will get my patronage.
I love their meat ravioli with Alfredo sauce. I've tried tomato basil too but I just love Alfredo sauce.
Their meatball is large and delicious and it's smushed in a decent sized sourdough roll. I usually only eat half the sandwich and save half for later.
I've had the steak sandwich and I don't like it as much as other people do. The meat is thin so you don't really taste as much meat as you do with the meatball sandwich.
I've also had their deli sandwiches. You get a piece of paper and you mark all the things you want on your sandwich and then they assemble a wonderful delicious sandwich for you. Their salami is good, as is their pastrami.
This place also has all kinds of imported beers, craft beers, fancy sodas, teas, juices. It also has tons of snacks, cheeses, meats, etc. When I'm here I just try to focus on ordering my lunch and leaving cause there's a lot of good stuff here that I may end up spending my money on. -
Review from James N.
I've tried two of the popular sandwiches here on two different occasions and I did not enjoy them like everyone else did. I wish I did though.
The workers here are friendly/unfriendly. You walk in and they all stare at you like you don't belong there. When they approach you, there is no smile but as soon as they open their mouths, it's a friendly, welcoming tone and your nice experience begins.
The hot foods are over to the right of the entrance and you start your order there.
I tried the Steak sandwich and the Tri-Tip sandwich with BBQ sauce cuz I heard another gentlemen ordering it and I didn't get any BBQ sauce.
The bread is very delicious and the meats, weren't up to par.
I was hoping that I could be a regular here because I was hoping I would love both of their popular sandwiches but unfortunately I am not too much of a fan. -

I was surprised that I actually lived up the hill from Antipasto's and never knew it existed, until we made our visit 9-years after I moved! I love the old school Italian deli feel and Antipasto's certainly fits that description but, there was something missing.
We had lunch here on Saturday and I was torn between ordering a deli sandwich or hot sandwich. They didn't have a menu board for the deli so I assumed it'd just be basic sandwiches so I went for a meatball sandwich, as raved about by my fellow Yelpers. The s/o got the Italian Sausage sandwich. We shared a Caesar Salad and got two canned sodas, which all came out to about $26, which was decent, I suppose.
The Caesar Salad was really delicious, probably one of the best CS I've had in a very long time. It's the dressing that makes or breaks it and it certainly made it!!!
The s/o and I shared our sandwich just so we can get a taste of each. My Meatball Sandwich was overwhelming. It was big but, huge portions doesn't mean it's necessarily good, right? I felt that it was just plain and lacking flavor. The Italian Sausage Sandwich was decent. I'm not a fan of Italian Sausage as I don't like the spices used in them but the sausage they used was good. But again, the sandwich as a whole was lacking something.
Like others have mentioned, the service was lukewarm, but it's family run and I can imagine being with your family 7-days a week can take a toll on you. But, we noticed that the newbies got the lukewarm service and the regulars were greeted like family. But I was impressed that several people walked in and out and were all greeted by first name.
We'll probably come back, but I'm going to try a good ol' deli sandwich instead. -

AMAZINGNESS.
I had my very first pastrami sandwich here. Now, I order it every time I come back. I order it hot, on a sourdough roll with mustard. To accompany that, I also get the Italian meatball soup (on the days they have it, since it is a special), which is truly something special. The tiny meatballs top off the soup like no other. Finally, I get their homemade cheese ravioli with meat sauce. It is the perfect combination of cheese, meat, noodle, and tomato. It is to die for. THE BEST RAVIOLI I HAVE EVER HAD. I wish I didn't live so far from Antipasto, or maybe that's for my best. -

Life is all about choices. Your have a choice, Dairy Beef Vs. Antipastos beef. Fresh wild fish or some farm raised shit from across the ocean. Yep that's right folks. Shit ponds were most farm raised shrimp comes from. Do your self a favor. Save up a few extra dollars and purchase some large shrimp from this place. Cook in a little garlic and olive oil and you will see the diff. Maserati vs. a wrecked Datsun.
I knew pops from this place. Great guy. Know Nick and Gino, more good guys. Mom is thrown into the Italian mix as well. Nothing fresher nothing better. Take the time to support an American small Business and taste the difference. God bless you guys and thanks for the MANY years of good food and service. Almost forgot.......Keep my crabs in stock! -

Antipastos is awesome - and so is the DeRose family. We come here all the time, either for their hot/prepared meals (fantastic), their deli sandwiches (amazing - esp try their wheat bread), or their meats to take home and grill. Their ham/turkey/prime rib also can't be beat for the holidays. Basically, you can't go wrong.
Gino, Nick, Mary and the rest of the crew are helpful, friendly and go out of their way to make sure you leave happy (and in my case, make sure you know how to prepare whatever great meat they have sold you).
When you are out and about on the East Side, make sure to stop by - you don't want to miss it!
p.s. Try out one of the DeRose wines that are sold there as well ... quite tasty! -

First time had the Tri tip sandwich! It was great. Good price and serving size.
Next time I had the Ravioli. We had one plate of cheese and one with beef. It was just so light and fluffy they got the nickname of "pillows".
Got really lucky and got to participate in a free Beer tasting on the other side of the deli. What a day. -

I can't believe i haven't written a review for this place after all these years Yelping!
Antipasto's is the definition of a neighborhood gem. It's family owned and operated, and it's been that way as long as i can remember. In addition to it being a stand-out deli in the area, they also have great fresh meats, fish, and a hot-food section with killer home-made Italian foods.
Some of the highlights for me are their steak sandwich and their home-made raviolis. In addition to them selling the ravs hot and ready to eat, you can also purchase frozen pastas to take home and make yourself.
They also have a great selection of imported beers.
The one and only downside to Antipasto's is that it is a bit pricey. They have steadily raised their prices over the years and after coming in here recently after not coming in for some time, i was a bit surprised at what they are charging for certain things. I'll admit that it's good, quality food, but it does seem a bit overpriced.
5 stars for quality, minus one for being overpriced, so i'm going with 4 stars on the whole. -

Love old-school places like this...
Popped in for a sandwich recently, and was reminded why this place has survivied for so long. Quality cuts served by friendly people at modest prices. They have a steam table here as well as a busy sandwich counter, and everything available seems to be hit...
Seating is somewhat limited, so keep this in mind during peak hours. The beer selection is pretty impressive as well. And people frown at the East Side. Less of a wait for those who know better... -

A true mom and pop Italian Deli in San Jose--my New Jersey born and raised husband is pleasantly surprised. Pasta and salad combos are plenty, good and satisfying. A mish-mash or chairs and tables for dining in are available. Takeout might be a better idea for an impromptu picnic in a park closeby. Also available is an impressive meat counter and some shelves filled with Italian groceries for sale.

Finally went to Antipasto's for the first time yesterday. I order a tilapia lunch with came with 2 pieces of tilapia, a side of pasta (with meat sauce) & a side salad. The fish & pasta were a little dry, but had a great taste. I also had a steak sandwich. The steak sandwich is very simple. LTO, mayo on fresh sourdough. Only set back is that it is expensive $25 for both meals & it's no where near my house or work.

Found Antipasto's by a friends recommendation. I went yesterday for lunch. I got there around 1130 and just beat the lunch crowd. Glad I did because the line got pretty long.
There was a lot of options and past reviews talk a lot about the steak and meatball sandwich. I wasn't in a sandwich mood so i got the chicken ravioli with the tomato cream sauce.
I was amazed how light the ravioli was. The cream sauce was also great. The side bread i got with the dish was used to soak up every drop of the sauce.
I also got a slice of lasagna to go. This too was outstanding. I was so wow'd with this place i think i text'd 5 different ppl to tell them about this place.
I have been to Italy and this is the closest to that quality i've had here in the bay area.
I'm going back later this week to try a sandwich! I can't wait! -

I have to take a star down because of the service. I just went there today and it was 10 minutes before closing time so I tried to order as quickly as I could (I was starving too). When I came in there were two people behind the counter and they didn't even say hello or anything, they just asked "what can I get you?" so I told them "Can I get an order of cheese raviolis please? With the tomato basil sauce to go" the older man looked at his watch with a displeased facial expression, I know it was late, but that shouldn't affect the customer service. Plus if they didn't want any more customers to come in late then why not turn off the "open" sign before closing? I really enjoy the food here but the staff makes you feel unwelcome sometimes. Except the older lady that works there, she's a doll; but she wasn't there tonight.
