Three things that make Antigua great:
1) Low Prices
2) Very Generous Portions
3) The Sangria - STRONG and a secret recipe
Love this place for lunch and dinner. -

I really like this place! They did an amazing transformation after the Peking Wok closed. Before it was dark and dirty, now it is lovely. Even the women's rest room was thought out nicely with the bowl sink.
Have eaten here twice so far, and both times were good. Their taco salad, huge, the al pastor tacos, tasty and the cheese enchiladas, delicious. The beans are freshly made.
The decor is lovely. Prices are very reasonable.
The owners are trying hard to please. I hope they prosper well and do great once Whole Foods opens and folks know they are there. -

After a long day's of work, me and a friend of mine decided to silence our rumbling stomachs with some Mexican food.
The service was good-our waiter seemed to keep his cool despite he was the only server with over 7 tables. Kudos!
As for the food, the complimentary chips were good-homemade and fresh out of the fryer! I bit into a few hardened over fried chips, but that comes with the territory with homemade chips.
The food was great! My chicken mole was not too sweet and the Spanish rice and beans got my approval. Not as great as Gramma's, but close! My friend got the chicken enchiladas. The chicken was tender and the sauce was not too salty.
Great place to go to for some low key Mexican food.
best,

I enjoyed dinner at this new Mexican eatery in Mill Valley last evening. The place has a nice ambiance with an orange color scheme, including comfortable leather chairs made in Mexico.
The staff were all friendly and prompt, even the owner, Mike came around to each table to check on everyone's experience.
I had the Prawn Fajitas which were so fresh, succulent and grilled to perfection. The sides were generous, although there were only three flour tortillas served standard. Vegetarians will be happy with the number of selections on the menu, including a vegetarian version of tortilla soup! Antigua Mexican Grill has made a great start and I hope it does well as it's close to where I live and I want to enjoy meals there into the distant future! -

Been a good number of times since and the first trip was the best. The others haven't been bad, but each time there is something a little off - slow service, slightly stale chips, etc.
Still the best there is in Mill Valley and I love their Chile Rellano Burrito to go for lunch, but not the initial 4 star...1 Previous Review: Show all »

I don't have anything to add regarding the quality of the food at Antigua, but I can add something regarding the staff and service.
We decided to return for dinner of Friday, January 22. It was around 8pm and aside from the one table we sat at, all of the tables were occupied.
It didn't take along for us to notice that something was amiss. When our server came over she appologized for the confusion and explained that their servers had called in sick and that she and one of the waiter's assistants were filling in for them.
I can't say that their organization was perfect, but they were certainly working exceptionally hard to provide good service to their guests.
With a bit more observation and discussion, we learned that our server was actually one of the cooks (and owners). Both she and the other cook (also a partner) were balancing their time between the kitchen and the dining room.
We can't fault the staff for their efforts and as usual the food was excellent. We will definitely be back. Any restaurant that can manage to keep their head above water under such adversarial conditions deserves our patronage.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Well, this place is tucked in a corner, right next to Wholly Foods. I par-took in the Huevos Mexicanos. Delicious! Fresh frijoles, and the right amount of tomatoes and onions for me. My dining partner had an Al Pastor burrito. He said it was the perfect spicy-ness. Excellent chips with two kinds of salsa were included. I know, I know... not true "Mexican" fare, but still a great addition.

I have eaten Antigua's food twice: once as take out and once in the restaurant. Both times I enjoyed the food a lot. Great meat, wonderful salsas, large portions, and very friendly service. I am happy that there is another affordable place to go to eat in Mill Valley.
I've had an arranchera (skirt steak) burrito, chicken fajitas, and the other people with me enjoyed choritzo tacos, chicken enchiladas, and chicken tamales. Great pico de gallo and guacamole too! The two house made hot sauces (green and roasted red) are spicy and have a great flavor. -

While there are plenty of Mexican restaurants in Southern Marin, not a single one is worth particularly noting (my own belief is that the food can't have real flavor to keep the gringos happy). Luckily Antigua is an exception.
To be clear, it is a small place in a strip mall, the service is earnest but inconsistent, and the auto-opening door at the front freezes out most of the tables. However, the food is really good and the prices are reasonable. The chile rellenos are fully flavored and perfectly done. Ditto for the carnitas and the pastor. Guac was perfect too.
I'm a big fan and pulling for this one to make it. It deserves to have a big local following. -

It's closed. After the last several bad reviews you know something was up. You can track them down at a local farmers market, but that's it.

Gross!! My friend totally just got water in a glass and the glass was dirty as hell. She was able to rub her finger and the inside and a creamy residue came off on her finger. The waitress was hella rude too.

This place is okay in a town with lots of standouts. I ordered the pastor at the recommendation of the waiter and it was super dry. The chile relleno was pretty good. Chips and salsa and margarita were on point. This might be the only restaurant in the world with an automatic glass door.

I am so sad to be writing a review with one star. Tonight, I went to Antigua with my husband and toddler. We really were looking forward to it, based on so many great Yelp reviews. We arrived at the restaurant around 6:15PM and the food smelled and looked delicious. We walked up to the hostess stand and stood patiently, only to be ignored by every person who worked in the restaurant. We waited for more than five minutes without so much as a hello from any of the staff. We were literally asked to move out of the way so they could get by but not one person stopped to ask if we would like to be seated or acknowledge our presence. Finally we agreed to wait another minute or two to see if anyone would acknowledge us, but nobody ever did. We walked out of the restaurant and ended up having our family meal next door at Rocco's Pizza.
I'm not usually one to complain unless something is seriously wrong but these folks have a serious management/staff issue. So disappointing... -

Mike and Sandy have just opened this restaurant after their success with Quixotes in San Francisco. The food is very good, in the tradition of fine Mexican cooking (of which Sandy is a veteran), the drinks are inventive, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The price is more like 1.5$, but I had to pick one or two, one is closer. Figure about $10-12 for food per person, less for kids. I think you will be impressed.

This is a great Mexican restaurant. Their Chicken Mole is delish!! I love the ambiance of the restaurant and feel they did a great job transforming it from the previous business. I hope they survive despite WholeFoods moving in next door with a burrito bar. You would have thought that a internationaly based grocer wouldn't want to compete with "our local restaurants" especially considering they have families to feed. Isn't WholeFoods motto something like, "go local". Well you can't get more local than this!!! I'm a supporter!!

I've been here a few times now with friends or on my own and each time it's been wonderful.
Great service, fresh food, nice drinks, friendly service, reasonable prices...
The soft beef tacos are my favorite. Their guacamole and sour cream are a perfect addition. Their chips are fresh and perfectly salted. Their beans and rice dish is good too, although refried beans would be better...but it's still good.
This location is great for us because we're nearby. It's great after work. This place gives Maria Maria a run for it's money. -

Mill Valley, CA
My husband and I, on a solid recommendation, went there for lunch today. I had the rice and beans plate that comes with guacamole, a little salad, pico de gallo salsa and cheese - without the cheese. It was delicious. I make this all the time at home, and am very picky...theirs was definitely good, and quite plentiful. My husband had their carne asada arachera. It had the rice and beans, salsa and avocado. The steak was 2 large thin slices of skirt steak with a bit of a hanger steak flavor...a very hefty portion. He thought it was pretty tasty. The decor is decent for a not fancy restaurant, service was good, and we'll be back.

I eat here pretty frequently because I work close by and well, something keeps me coming back! The food is pretty good, the staff pretty nice, and the service fast. The restaurant is neat & tidy with outdoor seating as well. The burritos are better than whole foods burritos or Grillys. I like this place and wish them the best!

Yay!!! A real Mexican place that you can actually go and sit down in!! The food was great. I had the carne asada plate and it was yumm! I love te pinto beans. Both salsas are great. The red one is hot which I appreciate. I don't think they have a full liquor license, but do wine cocktails and a good beer selection.

Richmond, CA
I have tried almost every Mexican place in Mill Valley. This place is definitely up there. That's really not saying much since it's slim pickings for authentic Mexican in the area. The prices are also a bit expensive for the product. I've had the carne asada taco plate a couple times before and the carne asade regular burrito for lunch today. The carne asade was almost always too dry and overcooked. The green salsa is pretty good but I was not excited about the red salsa at all. The rice was pretty good. Not too moist or dry. I always get no beans so I'm not sure what type of beans they use. This place is definitely better than Grillys and the Maria Maria down the street. If you are craving real authentic and phenomenal Mexican food, you will have to head into Oakland and find those good taco trucks.

Mill Valley, CA
Finally some good Mexican food in Mill Valley at reasonable prices. I had a pastor taco, which was good and the Mahi taco was fresh and the rice and beans were flavorful. The red sauce on the table was very spicy by Marin standards. The green sauce was fairly mild. Nice to have both options on the table. I can't believe this is the only place in Mill Valley I can get pastor tacos. What are other Mexican restaurants around here thinking?

Mill Valley, CA
Good first experience. The restaurant was not busy and our food was served very quickly contrary to some of the other reviews. The decor is nice, it felt like we were out of town. The food was excellent, in particular the sauces. I had a combo plate which was very good. I look forward to going back since there really isn't another good Mexican restaurant in Mill Valley (taco shops don't count).

Mill Valley, CA
I ordered the veggie burrito seeing as I am one...a veggie, that is. It was good. The art of judging a burrito is a science that I am beginning to perfect but still have a difficult time describing. Due to the monotonous nature of the burrito, it's hard to say what exactly sets one apart from another but there surely is something. This burrito was fine. Not bad but not the best I've eve had. It was very quiet granted I went at five on a Sunday evening. The waitress got friendlier as the meal progressed. The salsa was pretty good. Would I come back? Eh, probably not. But don't let that stop you from trying it out. :)

Mill Valley, CA
I am in love with Antigua! Full disclosure, I own Curves Mill Valley, right next door. However, that only means I get to eat there more often. As much as I liked the owner of the previous establishment, I did not eat at Peking Wok, and did not endorse it.
I wholeheartedly endorse Antigua Mexican Grill - and so do the vast majority of my members. I am extremely impressed with the quality of the food. It is fresh, orignal (yet traditional), and they state that they use hormone-free meat, and organic ingredients where available - what a refreshing change.
The staff is super friendly, the interior is simply gorgeous - you have to go there once at least to enjoy the interior - but, as they say in Cabo, you go there once, you'll be there twice! My ONLY suggestion is to add another waiter for the busiest hours. I imagine they will do that, though, they have only been open 3 or 4 weeks, I think they are just getting a sense of the traffic flow. -

Mill Valley, CA
I could be falling in love this place. It is located in the former longtime site of Peking Wok. Tucked in a corner of the withering shopping mall on E. Blithedale. Ever since Albertsons left, and Whole Foods stalled on its opening, this strip mall has been looking bleak. Then Antigua opened with its cheery orange paint scheme and comfortable chairs. The possibility of unpretentious, fairly priced Mexican food in my neighborhood made my heart start thumping.
After four visits, I am ready to go steady with Antigua. The service started a little rocky, not that they aren't attentive or polite. They forgot to give us chips once, another time the bowls for the salsa, another time we waited forever for food and once I ordered grilled chicken (extra $) for my burrito and got the blander shredded chicken instead. I chalked it up to growing pains because the server and owner were so nice and the place was packed.
We have had the margaritas, chicken, carne asada, camarones and carnitas . The prices and portions are great. The carnitas was tender on the inside with the twice-cooked crispiness on the outside. My only suggestion would be that the glaze could be a little sweeter. The steak and shrimp (hot!) are good too. The fajitas are tasty and come with a big plate of sides. Looking forward to a long romance with Antigua. -

San Antonio, TX
Great food.
Slow, slow service. A 90+ minute meal is too long for a family of 4 that walks in already knowing what they want to order.
Either get rid of the motion sensing door, or don't allow children inside - it's nearly impossible to enjoy your meal when a constant gust of cold air is chilling your spine.
Good food. -

Marin, CA
My wife and I visited Antigua a few weeks ago and picked up some take out dinner. The carne asada was overcooked, the queso fundido was too greasy, and the staff could have used a bit more training.
The salsa was delicious, though.
We were hoping for a solid alternative to Joe's in Mill Valley, but Antigua is not it. If you are coming from Mill Valley, keep going on Blithedale and head to Lucinda's. So much better.
Better still, give Marinitas in San Anselmo a try. -

Santa Barbara, CA
Good Mexican food at reasonable prices. The just need to work on their service (as noted below). I'm worried how they'll do once Whole 'Paycheck' Foods opens in a month. If they can up their level of service they should become a staple for a long time.

Sausalito, CA
I'm giving this 5 stars sort of to make up for the person who gave it 1. I am from Sausalito and our Mexican choices are sorry, so I was so pleased to find this new restaurant. It's just a straight up restaurant with reasonable prices, good food and a welcoming interior. Restaurants like this are virtually impossible to find in Southern Marin. The waiter was very sweet when we were there and the owner and his chef wife seemed really unassuming and humble. I am a vegetarian, so it was nice to be offered some choices and the vegetarian tortilla soup was really flavorful. Non vegetarians take note! If they make our kind of food tasty, imagine how good the meat version is. This new place deserves our support and gratitude for offering us starving Sausalitans and Mill Valleyans really good reasonably priced, pleasantly served food.

Mill Valley, CA
Terrific Mexican food in Mill Valley. It's been a while. We've gone from an indifferent "rice and beans" place, to an overblown place, but now we have this place with it's vibrant flavors and interesting entrees. Any complaints? Just that the place is a little to crowded. The over-sized chairs need to go, and some nice narrow slat chairs need to come in so that people can actually move around. Small complaint. Great place.

The food was fine but I can't remember a time that a waitress has been ruder to me and my family. Unbelievable hostility around asking for side dishes. No follow up for another beer. No water refills. All around sucked hugely. Would never eat there again.

Review from Elizabeth F.
San Francisco, CA
This place was a huge disappointment and waste of time and money. First of all, one guy was doing it all- answering the phone, seating people, serving, and making drinks. It took him a while to come clean off the table for us, and didn't clean off all the old crumbs. Took him a long time to bring our waters, and much longer to bring any food. The tortilla chips were not at all fresh, the salsa was okay but in a little bottle with a spout, not fresh salsa. The furniture was very uncomfortable and ugly- I couldn't get close to the table and put my legs under because the underside is closed off with lattice. The table is coated in plastic, just very cheapo, and it would be nice if they could replace that awful sliding door (which was not automatic, and hard to open) with a regular door.
The guy was not very friendly, just seemed rushed and bothered by his job. The food was horrible. Basically they filled in with a lot of plain rice to avoid using other ingredients. This was by far the worst Mexican food I've ever had, and I've eaten a lot of Mexican food in my life! The only good thing I can say is that the Sangria was decent.
I will never go back and will advise my friends not to waste their time on this place. We'll continue to go to Joe's for affordable Mexican food and Maria Maria for delicious, unique Mexican food if we want a nicer dinner. -

Are you kidding me???? This is the worst Mexican food on the planet! Our chicken fajita was cooked in soy sauce, yes... soy sauce. Either the good reviews are from people who work there, or the people of Mill Valley really like chinese food. Their green chile sauce had a lot of honey in it, it was like a sweet and sour sauce. I wanted Mexican food NOT chinese food!!! Seriously... do NOT believe the good reviews, save your money and go to some Mexican place in the city.

Mill Valley, CA
I will NEVER go back to this dump. Mainly because the owner told me not to come back! Yes. Really. "Don't come back" came out of her mouth. All because I sent my dish back because it was unacceptable and inedible. I ordered nachos (how can you mess up nachos?) and when they came it resembled soup more than nachos. No melted cheese on top and a big soggy, soupy mess. I asked if they could leave off some of the wet toppings and actually melt some cheese on some crispy chips. It came back to me just as I had sent it (same bowl of soup, same wet mess) with some strings of cheese on top that looked like it had been melted on the cooktop and then transferred to the top of the hot mess in a bowl. I tried to keep quiet, but I decided to send it back since it was so clearly beyond unacceptable. Since my family was done eating and we had already been there an hour, (they are slow and inconsistent, but I didn't see the next move at all...) I sent it back and said I didn't want anything in its place just the check. When the bill came the owner came over to us and said that she didn't want to take my dish off the bill claiming I had eaten most of it - I had not eaten more than 1 yucky bite- my husband said, "that dish was unacceptable and I'm the customer" To which she replied, "It's customers like you that we don't like. Don't come back!" We were obviously incensed. What nerve. Well, guess what? We heard you loud and clear and WE WILL NEVER BE BACK! And I will tell others not to go so they can be saved from the same bad food and service. Buh-bye, Antigua. I give you six months.
