Antigua is the most Amazing Coffee House in So Cal  Bar None!    Starbucks' and Coffee bean  wish they could be a fraction as good-  Even Mt Washington is constantly trying to rename it!      Great Coffee,  Food, Customer Service,   and the Ambience is  a lot of Fun......

Stop by and say Hi to Yancey,  He will treat you like family (Hopefully not his)  Just Kidding!

I can't speak for the food or coffee yet because I have only had hot tea here - which was good.  I visited this place after the big wind storm, as I was going on another day without power and internet and needed to get some work done.  It was busy with others doing the same.  I appreciated that they stayed open late that night, as it seemed like a great service to our community when we needed it.

I have to say that I am a little concerned seeing the owner's responses to the reviews here.  It makes me think that I might see that more negative side of customer service when I return.  I hope I don't.

Good coffee, nice people. I'm so glad this is in my hood. It's better than corporate coffee, and it's consistent. A true neighborhood joint that cares about its surroundings. Reminded me of the place I used to go back in Park Slope, which is something that rarely happens in LA. I hope they stay open forever and that corporate coffee stays away!

I absolutely love this place. Went there twice in the last two days with my friend and am now addicted to the Mayan Mocha with almond milk. Yesterday, we split a breakfast sandwich and the mayan turkey chipotle sandwich, and they were AMAZING. Fella behind the counter is an absolute delight (can't argue with a fun, hilarious, sincere compliment and a great attitude), and I appreciate how much time he put into getting the drinks right. I'm considering busing out from Long Beach just to get my Mayan Mocha today, I am so happy with it. I envy my friend for living so near this place.

When my bf and I winged it and moved out to LA and came to this neighborhood we where a bit annoyed of the idea that there could possibly be no coffee houses within walking/biking distance of our home. Thank God I discovered this place while walking around/ exploring the neighborhood. It seriously was a life saver for us.

The service is super friendly, and the coffee is of great quality. The decor is cute, very bright (without being too bright), and welcoming. I felt right at home (Brooklyn) when I saw that they feature artists work on the walls and have the beautiful murals outside the shop.

There are a ton of outlets by the walls to plug in your laptop. They also provide fairly good WIFI service and I like that there is also outdoor seating. The music is nice, has never been too loud or overwhelmingly distracting.

The place is almost too nice sometimes. It really catches my bf and I off guard coming in here after a tough day, but really perks up our moods. I highly recommend this place, their awesome attitude/ desire to provide quality coffee, food, and service are something you rarely see in coffee houses. I'm so happy that this is our local shop. I only wish they where open a bit later, but other then that, great place.

Oy, I'm always excited when I find gems like this in my neighborhood.  I was looking for a coffee shop near my place that also had free wifi and I found this place while browsing on yelp.

I stopped by yesterday afternoon with my sister after a sumptuous feast in k-town and I wanted a caffeine boost before going to work.  There was plenty of street parking around the shop (the coffee shop is located on the corner of the street) and it was relatively quiet because it was a Sunday afternoon.

The interior is just a casual local coffee shop, nothing fancy, a couch on the left as you enter which was occupied by two students when I walked in and several wooden tables for patrons.  The menu is on the counter (laid flat) and I was excited to read all the options.

I chose the Mayan Mocha Latte which had a hint of chocolate and cinnamon (much like a mexican hot chocolate but with caffeine :) ).  It was so delicious- not too sweet, but just enough so I didn't have to add any sugar.  I could get a nice hint of chocolate, it wasn't too overwhelming and it came with just a touch of cinnamon- delightful! My sister ordered the espresso with special creme and the gentleman who helped us at the counter told us that the espresso that they have there is nothing like the bitter ones you find at Starbucks.  He had us smell the fresh espresso he just ground- it smelled amazing.  This is another reason why I don't like Starbucks and I love supporting local shops like Antigua!
They roast the coffees on site as well, which adds to the amazing taste and quality of their beans.

I am definitely going to return back to this coffee shop. Next time I will have to try their espresso shot and hang out in the shop.

Walk in, one person on lap top, one guy standing by the coffee bar. Order a breakfast sandwich (eggs, turkey bacon, tomato, romaine lettuce, avocado, chipotle dressing???) Is it me or is this a weird combo of flavors? So I order the sandwich excluding, lettuce, tomato, avocado & lettuce. Just eggs, bacon like a normal breakfast sandwich, the Hommie behind the counter ask's me "Your a plain kinda guy huh?" Are you f'ing kidding me? Eggs, tomato and avocado and chipotle? Sounds like fart, cottage cheese and mustard on shit bread! Anyways, I ask for a regular Latte. Her serves a regular coffee. I let him know I order a regular latte and he says "We call it something else her!" I ask what do you call it, "Latte!" and laughs??? O.K. fine, next time I wont confuse you with Regular Latte, Oh wait there won't be a next time, what am I talking about. Shortly after 3-4 more customers roll in, all of which he begins bantering one way or another. One guy had a Pirate shirt on, he says "We don't serve Pirates her!" and has a good two minute bull shit conversation before taking his order, next pumpkin spice Latte (seems to be a popular and easy order!) Next Regular Cust. comes in and has another two minute convo. about his wife being upset with the Hommie Barista. I guess the shop opens at 7:30 (isHHHHH) Anyways 15 minutes later, the dude hasn't even started my sandwich. When I ask him about it, he said it would be too hard to make and offers to give me my money back? (short might I add) Sandwich is 5.95 plus tax, I get back $6.00 cash. At this point I'm just happy to not be wasting any more of my time.

The other Antigua on Figueroa is great (near ave. 60) This one will never see me again!

Had the Mayan Mocha.  It was decent.  It doesn't taste like Abuelita and cinnamon.  Definitely a good thing.  I wish their drinks were laced with more caffeine.  The friend, a regular, said Yancey makes it better.  I'd be willing to come try Yancey's version of the Mayan Mocha.  Though there were other drinks that sounded interesting.

Oh, and it smelled like apple smoked bacon when I walked in.  Love!

Seating is limited.  Local artists hang their work on the wall, up to a year wait to make it onto Antigua's walls I've heard.  Street parking only.

This is going to be a short one.

Sheri and I made a quick bathroom break here. We were just around the corner at Loreto Street Elementary School for a Yelp Elite event. Yelp was teaming up with L.A. Works in repainting a freeway pedestrian bridge near the school. Which is why we were in the area.

I don't have much to really talk about. Sheri got an iced tea and I just used the restroom. The guys behind the counter (possibly the owners) seemed friendly enough.

Sheri loved the atmosphere and I have to agree. It was really a mellow place, but then again it was a weekend and fairly early in the morning. Also they had some really good music playing in the background.

This was one of our last stops in L.A. We brought old friend of mine here to pick up some caffeine to fuel some catch-up talk. This was located in Cypress Park, and features local artist's paintings. We didn't spend much time here, but our latte was great and the service was friendly. The neighborhood is obviously in a revitalization swing, always a cool thing.

No one is in any rush to do anything here, and you know what? I dig.

Although Antigua gets its fair share of people just popping in for their morning buzz, the feel here is laid back, just like a reclining chair. Yeah, that's it. Antigua is like your living room's recliner. Just sit back and relax.

The coffee is hot (or iced depending on your preference). The price is right. The sandwiches are simple but splendid.

Yancey (the owner) is just a cool dude and his employees don't fall far from that cool tree.

In sum, if you've been meaning to ask a special book on a date, do it and take her/him here.

I remember when this place first opened in their old location in El Sereno on Huntington Dr. I was on my way to the WaMu (now turned Chase) that was on the same street diagonally across from there. I used to take a bus there every week to get my check cashed and deposited. One time on my way out of the bank and to my bus stop, a lady, who I later learned that she was the owner, greeted me with a cheery smile and handed me a flyer for her new coffee shop that was located directly across from my bus stop. She told me that they had just opened not too long ago and that it'd be great if I can stop on by if I had the spare time. At the time, I declined but I thought about it and decided to return.

If it were not for the flyer, I'd probably forget about visiting the place.
The flyer was tastefully hand-drawn with distinct Mayan artistry. Colorful but not overwhelmingly so and most importantly, it was very original. The flyer was laminated on a thickish paper material and I thought it looked quite inviting. I figured if they spent the time and money to make fancy looking flyers on good quality material, they'd at least be decent. I was not disappointed.

I came back the following week and tried the Mayan Mocha. Yummers! Seriously, it was a different taste than most other coffee shops--independent or chain. I liked it a lot. I liked it so much that I've been coming to this place every week since to try out each drink on the menu except the teas. Then they started having these fruit smoothies which changed everything forever---for the better!! Then they started adding sandwiches, different pastries, expanding their tea selections, and all sorts of goodies.

Then they moved to Cypress Park and I was like, "Oh, hell yea!!" It's right in my neighborhood---kinda. I live in Lincoln Heights and it's like a 20 minute walk there. Very convenient. You should definitely come check this place out.

I really really liked this place, but the last 2x I've gone kinda killed it for me.

I work down the street and had been hearing such rave reviews from my co-workers. I gave this place a shot one day and bought myself a mocha latte made w/almond milk. OMG, it was heavenly! Even the bagel I had was amazeballs! A poppy seed bagel topped with cream cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and avocado. Delish! The guy who works there is pretty cool. We chatted it up a bit about the Bruins (woot woot) and their Trojan  rivals.

Anyhow, I tried coming back several times, but since there's such limited street parking, I'd just end up driving past it.

I had been craving the mocha almond latte for quite some time and decided to hit this place up before work (even though I was already running really really late). When I got there, their machine was broken and I was stuck with a plain old cup of coffee. :(

Still craving the mocha almond latte... I visited this morning. I was the 2nd in line and placed an order for the yummy bagel and mocha almond latte again. Right after I had paid, it started to get really busy. The dude was by himself... and he decided to make everyone's drinks before making my bagel sandwich. Not cool at all. I got my latte before my bagel. Lo and behold - it was made with soy milk, not almond milk! Definitely not the same drink and not as good! Anyway, I waited about 10 minutes for my bagel. Once I got my bagel, I told the dude he made my latte with soy milk, not almond milk... And he said some comment about it "tasting the same". Not really buddy. I told him I preferred almond milk over soy milk because it had less calories. Then he joked around about my bagel not having as much cream cheese, so it was even. Um... Okaaay if you say so. Not once did he even apologize. Oh and to top it off, the bag the bagel was in was ripped or something and the bagel fell right to the ground.

    9 bucks down the drain!

As good as the drink was the first time, I'm not sure if I'll ever come back.

Caffeine is a cruel mistress and she tempted me back to coffee again today.  So where did this evil urge for caffeinated goodness lead me?  To my favorite coffee shop in Highland (technically Cypress) Park:  Antigua Coffee House.

First, the interior of the place is brilliant and supports local artists.  Hey, community pride is my favorite part of this place.

Second, the people who work here are AMAZING.  Always friendly and chatty, they make you feel right at home.

Third, the coffee is great.  I usually get an iced mocha and it's always delicious, no matter who makes it.  They now have sandwiches too, but I have yet to try them.  Another time perhaps...

Fourth, it's a pretty chill atmosphere.  The patrons are NON-HIPSTER which is another reason this place is my fav.  If I want someone to judge me for not getting my clothes out of a dumpster and calling it "ironic", I'd go to Cafe De Leche on York.  The number of holier than thou, look you up and down for your appearance, superior, PBR-drinking hipsters there is deplorable.

Fifth - The music is amazing.  From reggae to punk, the music rules.  Just today I heard Dead Kennedy's followed by Social Distortion.  Made me happy.  :)

Oh, and they're doing an art event this month.  I'm going to make it a UYE.  So, what I'm saying is:  Go here, drink coffee, and be merry, but leave your arrogant 'tude at the door.

I was slightly disappointed by this cafe. It was a lot smaller than I expected, parking was pretty hard to find, and the wireless was really slow. I wouldn't really recommend it for studying, especially in groups, but it's a nice place to come and lounge and read a book.

I ordered an iced coffee and it was surprisingly strong and had a rich unique flavor which I liked. They had a few generic pastries in their display but none looked too appealing. Bathroom available. Outdoor seating. Service is friendly. Artsy decor.

Overall an okay cafe but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, especially to study.

This is a very chill coffee shop that seems highly committed to becoming a civic space for the Highland Park neighborhood.  As a former Austinite, I gotta give the owners props for their commitment to local issues.

I had a soy mocha and was very pleased.  They use Mexican-style (or is it Chapin-style) chocolate not the powdery stuff they use at Starbucks and/or Coffee Bean.  Free wi-fi with some outdoor seating -- loved the ambiance and plan on returning next time I'm in Highland Park.

The best lunch spot east of the LA River? It's got to be Antingua Cultural Coffee House on N. Figueroa. Their gigantic Mayan Chipotle Turkey sandwich at a very reasonable $6.75 is tasty and healthy! Their coffee is also the best - really! - and did I mention FREE Wi-Fi?

Oh Antigua, thank you for answering my caffeine wishes and blessing me with that pleasant kick I need in the afternoon. How lovely you situated yourself perfectly on what was an ugly corner on Fig & brightened up the lives of the tired car shops and nondescript "tiendas." Thank you Antigua for being there for folks on their hilltop oasis, giving them the chance to frollic amongst the commoners (laugh queue).

Overall the iced coffee was good but unexpectedly, it was slightly overshadowed by their fruit smoothie which has fresh fruits mixed in them. The sandwiches are really very fresh...we had their chicken and avocado. An extra plus that the family that owns the shop actually grow their own beans in Guatemala. Kona and Bule Mountain are still my top faves but I will definitely patron this shop when I'm in the neighborhood. They can benefit from selling an even greater selection of food .... especially their pastries.  They have some wiggle room to improve but overall it was pleasant and not overly crowded with good drinks and sandwiches.

Finally a coffee shop in the neighborhood! No more yum yum's doughnut coffee for me!

I love the fact it's a family owned business and they grow and brew their own coffee. The owner is nice, friendly and very helpful.

Being there makes me feel a bit nostalgic, because as a kid my mom use to buy me ice cream there. Hence the old ice cream sign still hanging there. The owner told me he's  thinking a way to fix it and getting it to working again !

*the muffins and danishs that are sold there are costco I know this just by looking at it but regardless it's all about the coffee which it's super!

Ordered Mayan mocha, hot... Very satisfying... Perfect amount of Mexican chocolate...not to sweet... Just right...
5 stars for bringing a resepectable coffee house to an area where there's none.   Also the guy who made took obvious pride in the product!

I had every intention of ordering a chai tea latte after hearing good things, but they were out of 1 key ingredient for that. I was a bit disappointed, but got over it. Yancey recommended a Mate Tea Latte (pronounced mah-teh). He told me it's popular in Argentina, and the taste was close to that of chai, so I ordered it. It was very close, but I definitely missed that spice kick of the chai. Still very good, and would definitely order it if the chai has run out. Which I doubt will happen again.
