I and my BF tried to have dinner @ Kuma inn but it was 2 hours waiting, so we decided to leave. Since we planned to eat at Kuma Inn we had wine and didn't want to carry around. We looked up BOYB restaurant around Lower East Side (thanks to Yelp app!) then found this place.

This is very cozy little place that you can enjoy your company. We had lamb for appetizer that wasn't too great. My BF had short rib. I had grilled tuna. They both were excellent.

The great part is this place takes credit card and no corking fee!
We will definitely go back there soon!

Last night while walking down Suffolk a guy in a chef's jacket ran up to me and asked if I remembered him. Of course I did, as did my wife. David, the adventurous guy who ran the sandwich and pasta place in the Essex Market a little while ago. He put cumin in the four fruits preserve he made, yet somehow made it work. A little weird, but  kickass. He gestured across the street to his place, Antibes, which was just closing for the night. We promised we'd check it out.

The next day my sister and her husband pay us an unexpected visit with the intention of taking us out to a late lunch. I told them I knew just the place.

Antibes is a hole in the wall bistro that feels comfy in the way any joint with exposed brick, cute tables and chairs and a Mediterranean theme will be. Add its cute smallness and good choice in music (classic reggae played just below what would have been too loud) and they're on to something very nice - like a morel coming up from an otherwise desolate bit of forest.

We arrived when David wasn't there, so we got no special treatment. It wasn't required - our experience her was wonderful.

We knew the place was BYOB (at the moment), so we brought wine for our 3PM arrival. We promptly ordered sandwiches, since they were the lion's share of the lunch menu. The duck rillettes sandwich was good, but oddly sweet (from the caramelized onions). My sister dug it. I got the lamb kufta sandwich, which was not as spicy as expected (could barely taste the harissa), but still delicious. My wife and brother in law opted for the merguez sandwich (oddly but effectively paired with sauteed mushrooms), which proved to be the best of the lot. All were served on good ciabatta bread (I'm guessing Sullivan St Bakery). Not huge sandwiches, but rich and satisfying. Also worth the price (between $7 and $9). The small side salads they came with were a little over salty, but that was compensated by the kitchen's compliance with our off-the-menu request for an app of grilled asparagus (since the menu showed they had it for the sandwiches).

We decided to linger over dessert. My wife opted for the chocolate mousse - small, but tasty. My bro-in-law heard me speak of David making his own preserves, so he asked if he could get the bread and jam to go with his (good) coffee. He did, and the bread and jam was as good as any of the desserts. Three obviously homemade sorbets were left for me to share with my sister. More than enough for two, this bowl contained a scoop each of fresh peach, raspberry and lime-cilantro(!) sorbet. Spectacular!

We walked out without so much as leaving a note for David. If he reads Yelp let him find out we were here this way. Service was good throughout. No place we'd rather have been on a Saturday afternoon.

We'll be back for dinner. No doubt. This place is still pretty strong on its lunch menu.

One of the better BYO's in the city.  Although some of the food lacks sufficient seasoning or not exactly perfectly cooked, the missteps are forgiven through the pricing and BYO policy.  The food is otherwise simple, clean and generally tasty.  However, once they get their liquor license, it's doubtful I'd return.

Very cute place on a quiet part of Suffolk street, even though it's only half a block from Rivington. If you're looking for a restaurant on the Lower East Side where you can actually hear your dining mates when they speak, Antibes would be a good spot. It's very cute and cozy, with two spots for outdoor seating (although it feels more like you are just squatting on someone's front stoop).

I went on a Friday night and it was half full. The appetizers were great. The duck pate is very different - a mix of duck meat with duck fat on a slice of pear with a sweet balsamic dressing. It was perfect! The beet and goat cheese salad was pretty good too - both apps 7 dollars I think. The baked chicken and ravioli were both good, but not mind blowing. It's french mediterranean food (which is where Antibes is) so it's a bit of French, a bit of Italian, and some middle eastern stuff thrown in.

Whoever said the portions were small must have been expecting Cheesecake Factory. I thought the portions were satisfying. 4 stars for now while it's still BYO. I think I would give it 3 stars if I had to pay for my booze.

Antibes is many things.

A cozy dinner spot that has amazing braised short ribs and lamb boulettes.  (none of the other dinner options need apply in my opinion :) )

A non-pretentious brunch spot that has great food and BYOB - suck it Essex.

Finally, Antibes is an under-appreciated neighborhood staple who's food somehow manages to be gourmet and also affordable at the same time.

I had the grilled Wild Salmon and tried my friend's  Pan Seared Yellow Fin Tuna.

Grilled Salmon was average in flavor and almost on the brink of being overcooked.

The Tuna, cooked Medium Rare, was not so good but then I am not usually a fan of seared Tuna.

So food was below average but our bottle of Wine rocked and saved the night.  Service from our server was charming and fun.  We didn't get first class treatment and never expected it but she was kool.  We felt very comfortable with the way she chose to interact with us.

We'd be back if the food was better but considering it was a neighborly joint with good lighting and a great bottle of wine ($45) we may be back just to hang.

Was nearly empty on a Saturday night.  Not a good sign.

Very bright white inside and appears to be a little old and beat up.  Did have nice artwork though.

The waitress was rather pushy trying to get us to order appetizers and a full bottle of wine.  I found it to be rather rude.

The food itself was good.  I ordered the pressed chicken as recommended here.  Nothing to write home about but a decent meal.

Cash Only.

I had a great time at Antibes Bistro - it was a friend's birthday and we actually had the entire restaurant to ourselves (~30 people).  The atmosphere was great - felt very homey and the service was good.  She decided to have her b-day dinner there because we had a $25 prix fixe and it was BYOB!  The food was overall good - I would highly recommend the truffle mushroom risotto (by far better than the steak or fish entrees).

It's small, maybe 25 seats, max. But if you can get a table, it's worth it.

I was there on a Saturday night and we were lucky enough to get the front table, near the front window. The food was good for the price. And our server was very attentive, even with every other table in the place full.

It's not pretentious, but is a bit nicer than the other restaurants in the immediate area.  You can actually have a conversation there, so a good spot for a casual date or dinner with friends.

Don't forget: cash only.

After visiting the No-Name bar down the street (see my other review - awesomely cheap Happy Hour) we stumbled into this place, a little drunk. The sign outside proclaimed a $30 3 course prix-fixe menu and we thought that sounded like a decent deal. Seemingly it's a new place that's trying to get a foothold.

I started with the Roquefort & Pear Salad and my bf had the Baby Greens Salad. Both were tasty, but not amazing.

For my main, I got the entree-sized version of the butternut squash ravioli with browned butter (definitely one of my favorite things in the world). The squash filling didn't have much flaver, but oh, the butter! My bf had he house made Fettuccini which he enjoyed and I thought was pretty good.

For dessert, we both had the chocolate terrine, which was great.

Atmosphere wise it was nothing to shout about. Even in our tipsy state, we thought the service was a bit erratic, which is odd, considering we were only ever 1 of 2 occupied tables while we were there. My recommendation is to go there if you want a good deal on medium-fancy food. Maybe they'll get the kinks worked out soon and get a bit more popular. Though it's such a small space, I'm not sure how they will make it work!

"Gem" is the only word that comes to mind.

Okay, that's a lie. Delicious is another. Perfectly charming are two more. I went to Antibes the other night with an old friend and was not only floored by the food--we shared the asparagus appetizer, which was dressed in this assortment of mushrooms and drove me totally crazy; then each followed with the special which was a fantastic eggplant ravioli (okay, so we didn't really take the menu for a walk, but I'm definitely going back to try out the rest). But honestly, to top it off, this place drew a great crowd. I felt like I stumbled into the best kept secret on the LES--there wasn't a line out the door, but there were no empty seats either; I saw couples on dates and a party of 8ish having a classy time. My friend and I caught up, enjoyed the ambiance, and left full and dazzled. Oh, and they're BYOB, but who knows how long that will last....I'm sure I'll find out; I'll be going back soon.

For the kind of food (French, casual bistro), this place is over priced. I went with 2 friends and we shared a bottle of wine, 2 appetizers, and ordered 2 entrees. My bill was $60. But enough katvetching about the money, the butternut squash ravioli was terrible. The pasta was over-al-dent-ed, and the squash part was completely bland. The pressed chicken was good, but you can't really screw up chicken and mashed potato.

Decor wise, threadbare and no curtain at the main door to block out the cold. Service was only OK.

I think this place just moved to this location on Suffolk St.  It's BYOB at this point, which always makes it a better deal.  I had the roast chicken w/truffled mashed potatoes and green beans. The chicken needed salt but everything else was delicious. My friend ordered a ravioli dish and seemed to enjoy it, finishing it fairly quickly.  The portions are not huge, and he was still hungry.  We ended up getting the panne cota for dessert which was good, but I could not tell if it was homemade or not.  Overall, the meal was good, but not overwhelmingly so that it made a strong impression. I will probably give it another chance since it's so close to me.

This is a delightful under the radar kind of place. Antibes is a nice quiet, comfortable, friendly place that also happens to be a great value. I have tried most of the entree's and many of the appetizers and desserts. My favorites so far are the short ribs and the chicken. The wine list is short but well chosen. Cash only. Enjoy!
