Neighborhood: DowntownI feel that if the price of everything in the store was shaved down by 25%, it would be perfect. I found the loveliest blue ruffled top for $250, and I simply can't handle those kind of prices.
*sigh*
However, I have bought a few items at full price, and I love them more than anything in my closet. I guess if you think of it this way: would you rather own one gloriously, beautifully detailed cardigan for $100 or to purchase 3 ordinary henley tops from American Eagle?
Just a thought.

$170 for a basic, plain white cotton tube dress?!
Someone has got to be kidding me!!!
I'm pretty sure I could find the same gd dress at the Gap for $30.
This store made me realize even moreso that experiences are what really matter in life, not overpriced things.

I love this store. YES it's ridiculously expensive. NO I can't really afford to shop here. YES some of their clothes are horrid. However. Everything I've bought there has been very well-made, unlike Anthro's obnoxious younger sibling Urban Outfitters, where $50 gets you a rag that's falling apart before you take the tags off. And they have a gigantic selection, so unless you're unthrilled with current fashion in general (happens to me sometimes) you'll very likely find something you like. While it's a huge chain, I find that the clothes are usually unique enough that mixed in with my own wardrobe I don't feel like a clone. The sales are pretty great--I think I've only bought two items full price before. It's not common to find something amazing at really bargain-basement prices, but their typical sale prices bring things down to regular levels (Gap, Brass Plum). I rarely have trouble finding fabulous stuff on the sale racks.
I've never had trouble with the customer service. I'm one of those people that prefers to be ignored unless I want help and ask for it, and this works well at Anthropologie. Everyone who's helped me there has been very friendly. They also have an awesome return policy, which is great because I frequently shop the sales online and just as frequently have to return things.
The store is so much fun to wander in. The design and ever-changing decor is charming (yes, they try a bit too hard, and yes it shows, but I don't care). Their housewares are just as quirky and stylish as the clothes, and those are definitely something to look out for on sale. If a delicate lacey-edged porcelain cake stand sounds like a score to you, this is your place.

This store is my own personal mecca. I love it. I rarely buy anything there (I'm still a poor student - damn you grad school!) but I still love it. The few items I have from here I still wear on a regular basis because they are timeless and hold up surprisingly well. Yes, there are some...unique...pieces every time I visit but there is always, always a handful of things I drool over. And I regularly fantasize about living in the Downtown Seattle store. It smells heavenly, it's two floors, it has a huge array of really fun housewares, an awesome bed and of course tons of clothes :-)
Someone at Anthropologie corporate, please, pleeeeease open a store in Honolulu!
I only go to Anthropologie I am looking for a totally unique looking item. Okay that's not true, sometimes I go just to wander around the vanilla scented store, oggle the sales rack and get ideas. I don't mind that the salespeople aren't very attentive since, in general I like it when folks leave me alone to browse. I prefer the UW Anthro simply because parking is free and when you're about to overspend, at least I won't be wasting money on a parking space.
Shopping online with Anthro is awesome. The customer service is really superb.

I still can't figure out why my friend paid $150 for the fugliest skirt I have ever seen in my life at this store.
The skirt is heinous, the sales staff was rude.
I watched helplessly while she eagerly drank the kool aid.

I give Anthoropologie 5 stars so what!!
They are GOOD. they are also expensive but they are good.
I got two adorable chairs, each was 70 bucks and I love them.
Check the price tag!! sometimes it's not $270 or $189,,,like today an adorable blouse had $70 tag. Hell, Urban Outfitters sells blouse for $70 or more, right!? I should have bought it. but I just had no money. Details,,,,,that's what gets me. I can't resist the pretty details on the clothes! It excites me....
I think their stuff is priced right. We just have nothing that are good and still affordable around here. That's why we get mad. We just need better clothing stores. or we all just should live in Japan. All I want is a once a month shopping visit to Japan. OK now I'm just talking about my dreams....

Last year I took my best friend out for her birthday on a shopping spree at the downtown Anthropologie. (That's what you do for birthdays - let your friends splurge on super expensive stuff they would never buy for themselves, because it's...super expensive!)
Can I just say...I think the customer service there sucks. Not one person asked if we needed assistance, and when we stood around at the fitting rooms with our arms loaded with stuff, one of the girls *walked right past us* and helped the woman BEHIND us (who was dressed to the nines and obviously loaded) into a room! I was really pissed, so I said loudly to my friend, "Hold on, I'm going to go find a room for you." Then I just waltzed right into fitting area and started going toward one of the rooms, ready to knock on a door and open it up for my friend. That caught the attention of the doe-eyed, waify 12 year old manning the front counter and she perkily asked us, "Can I get you ladies a room?". Yes, please. And go eat a cheeseburger while you're at it, thanks.
I was slightly dressed up because I had been at work earlier in the day, but our shopping trip was a surprise to my friend so she was only wearing tennis shoes and a sweatshirt. But hey, guess what? Even though she didn't look like a Chanel ad, she had a gift certificate with quite a chunk of change on it, and she was ready to spend it! We ended up not buying anything and she decided to shop online instead, because no one would help her! It was totally a Pretty Woman moment.
As we left, I said "Thanks" (why, I don't know...it's a habit, I guess) to a couple girls at the register, but they didn't answer. Either because they didn't care, or because they were too busy ogling a jewelry display in the store. Yeah. It's like they were the ones doing the shopping, not us.
Ugh, this made me so mad! I'm still seething over it.
Thanks, Anthropologie. Not only are your clothes ultra expensive, but your staff is ultra lame.

Well, I actually like Anthropology alot which is strange since I am one of the biggest tight wads I know and their stuff ain't cheap. I mostly go there for their cute housewares and things like serving bowls, drawer pulls and coffee table books are actually pretty affordable. I have an old farm style house and their stuff fits nice with my decor. I have even bought an item or two of clothing if I'm really in a buying mood. The only thing that's weird is their customer service. It is mostly indifferent which is usually fine with me since I'm the biggest looky-loo I know but if you actually do need help you may be a little at a loss. I just never get enough of their shabby chic nick-knacks so I will keep going there to find adorable housewares but probably skip alot of the high priced, waifish clothing that is ill suited to the Seattle cold (I need wool and lots of it!) but again, great housewares and their catalog is great for furnishings.

Complaining pays off sometimes. I submitted a comment on their website, and received a response from the NW Regional Manager today. I was impressed. It was a really kind, professional response. No arguments, no dysfunctional non-apology. Short and sweet. She offered to find an undamaged dress and have it sent to me. !!! I thought--that's cool, but there's no way they'll find one. I was happy, though. About 10 minutes later, I got a phone call and the downtown Seattle store wanted to confirm my address--they're shipping it today.
Fo' reals. I'm shocked and really impressed with their follow-through. I don't care if people screw up--it's more about their response to it. They really got the response part RIGHT. And for that, my rating goes to FIVE STARS. That's right, I think their timely, polite response is worth that much.

I like the clothes, but I prefer to shop at the University Village location. It may be smaller, yes...but the salespeople are really nice. Maybe it was just me, but the downtown store staff seemed frosty for no reason. I pointed out damage on a dress and I was accused of attempting to "bargain hunt". More like, "how can you charge $120 for a dress that is busted, and why does it matter that it's already on sale?" ...maybe it's ON sale because it is so freaking fragile, right?
Yes, when I'm in the mood for a real bargain, I go to Anthropologie to buy $300 dresses. Are they high?

Oh hell why does this place have to be so expensive? I love everything yet can't afford anything. I do love their sales, however!

It's not you, it's me. You've got great qualities, nice retro inspired clothes, stuff for my home, well made products, but for the love of god...why are you so F**KING expensive??!!! Do you want to drain me dry?!
You tempt me and tempt me and then your price tag shows your true colors. Tease. I HATE YOU!!!
I didn't mean it baby. I'm sorry. Here, I'll make it up to you, let me buy something from you.
I need help

My source of inspiration for everything Parisian flea-market. I shop the home section frequently, and even when I don't buy anything, it's great for ideas. Smells dreamy, and the shabby chic displays are top of the line.
Granted, a clock is $1000, but my advice is~ hit Anthropologie for ideas, then hit the MANY great antique and consignment stores in Seattle and you can replicate the look for way less! I do home staging and decorating on the side with the Anthropologie philosophy in mind. You can decorate for less, but make it look like you've spent a fortune in the south of France. Have fun with it!
I'm really not a big fan of chains simply because I'm not so into the idea that I'm getting stuck with the exact same thing as everyone else, but there's something about the clothes here that make that seem less likely. I love to drool over the catalogs (beautiful photography, they make me want to run away to the south of France) but budget-wise, I'm out of my league. The sale racks are great, though, and the housewares, too. Even if I only end up browsing I still have a good time - if you're looking at clothes you absolutely can't afford, there's no real guilt about not buying them.

Anthropologie isn' t quite as fly as it used to be. The lovely drapy tops are a bit too limp and thin and the hippie factor has ascended to a new high. Unless you are browsing to appreciate the inaccessibly expensive furniture downtairs, skip it and head upstairs where the SALES are. This is where the action is at! The sales racks are always full of lovely apparel that isn't in a dejected state. The fitting rooms are very cool, and buddies can sit and read up on fashion, dating and housewares at the coffee table and velvet couch.
Added hooray that this store carries Salt Works Jeans - these babies FIT a woman with NORMAL curves (IE, no stick insects with boy hips!)

I heard the politics of the founder is not so liberal even though he founded Free People as well...but it is hard to ignore this store when I find everything I ever want in one spot. It can be pretty expensive to shop here, but the the secret are the sales. There is always something on sale and it still looks fabulous.
