I am not trendy.....never have been, never will be. I am not JCrew, Banana, Urban or even Anthro. I am all of that thrown into one outfit usually. I'm a girl who wears the basics with the slightest trend thrown in every so often. I like a good deal or at least a fabulous cornerstone item in my closet. While Anthro is expensive,  I can always find something reasonable that I like, including my man Michael Stars!

Aside from my man Michael I have a few other great finds I love: Tokyo Milk perfume (a steal and they have great scents), Capri candles in Volcano (bomb diggity stuff that makes you whole house smell fa-bu), the occasional plate, glass or oddball find, and I score pants on clearance at great prices because it is obvious that us big bottie ho's wait until there are good sales.......

I honest to god wish I could pull this stuff off everyday and have my house looking like a French cottage, but you would all laugh at me and my husband would sleep out in the garage. So for now I will be happy smelling like I live here!

My heart aches when I walk in the door. The smells, the colors, the clothes, the design of it all.... It's so ME, but oh, so far away.

I can't afford this stuff. I bought a candle once, and it burned so quickly!

I have bought several shirts, but I spill red wine so frequently that I can't anymore.

I love their PJ's, but $90 for a pair - give me a break.

I also love their linens, but my husband would vomit if he had to sleep one night in such a girly ensemble.

I'll keep admiring their thing from far, far away.

I love the way their clothes looks but just like Urban Outfitters it's sister company and other companies like Free People, it's cheaply made and over-priced.

The clothes are very delicate. and for a sheer piece of shirt, they ask me to pay $80+? No way.

Even their sale section, i believe, is unreasonable.
Yes, i might sound cheap, but when i work for the every dollar i spend, i want to make sure it's worth my money.

I love this store!
I always get the best capris here for the summer...green...lilac...pink...the colors are always great! And the skirts are beautiful! Yes it is pricy but so is Nordstrom AND you should already know that walking in!! The SALE room in the back always has some fun deals...get on their e-mail list and they will send you out an e-mail when there's a big sale...i just got the cutest $70 top for $39!!!!

The staff is super helpful...I wanted a coat for France this past winter and the gal called around everywhere looking for my size...later on while I was at H&M I got a phone call saying they found one there!

All the clothes from Anthropologie make you look as though you just fell out of a fairy tale and landed in suburbia, which looks really cute on some girls. But not me. And not for lack of trying--I tried the peasant tops, the dirndl skirts, the flowy blouses and the $35 tanks. But I still look like a complete idiot in this stuff. They lure you in the with cute stuff in the window, then dash your hopes when you put on a dress and want to cry because you need the fitting room attendant to come help you get your boobs back from the empire-cut dress that tried to suffocate you (even though it's two sizes above your normal dress size).

And what the hell, there is no black anywhere in this store. Seriously. I found a really cute black jacket here last winter, but upon close inspection in the dressing area mirror, I found it to actually be a really dark navy blue. You almost had me, Anthro.

Even after all that, I sort of wanted to like Anthropologie (yes, despite the spelling that annoys me to no end). I get the catalog in the mail, and I peruse the website every now and then to learn about these "fabulous" designer jeans that my friends swear I should try. I even covet some of the dresses (always the most expensive ones, right?) and imagine myself wearing them out to... I don't know, the library ? I have nowhere else to go.

But the reality is that Anthropologie is not for me. In fact, it's not for anyone over size 12 (and when I was a 12, it wasn't for me either) or for anyone with boobs. All their fabrics are light and drapey and lack structure, and everyone who listens to Clinton and Stacy KNOWS that loose jersey knits look bad when you've got a little something extra. The shape of their dresses and most of the blouses is impossibly inaccurate; I only know one person who is 5'10" and thin as a rail (and yes, I do call her Olive Oyl). She can wear that stuff, but for those of us who have boobs ? The blouses won't button. And if you've got hips, you might as well ignore the shift dresses and anything the skinny sales clerks are wearing, your booty won't be getting anywhere near those jeans unless you sit on them. Oh, and I'm not short, but any jeans I try on leave six inches of fabric at the bottom for me to trip on. Not to mention, they do not accommodate my booty (not even those so-called "curvy" ones that other girls rave about-what are you guys on?).

So for a long time, I thought it was me that was the problem. I thought I was doing something wrong, eating too many creme brulees. A few pounds later, I realise I can find cute clothes almost everywhere else. It's just that me and Anthropologie aren't made for each other, I really can't do that Little House On The Prairie-meets-yachting with the Kennedys shabby preppy chic that this place seems to do well.

Having said all that, I do own two dresses from this place: a cute halter dress and a green empire-waist thing that makes me look SOOOO bad I haven't bothered to get the butter stain drycleaned out, and that happened last August. Similar dresses could be found at H&M for a third of the price, or in a real vintage store if you looked hard enough. And that's where I'll be shopping from now on (at least until I need a few doorknobs, ceramic mixing bowls, a $78 cardigan, and a book about couches all in one stop).

I absolutely love anthropologie!  Yes, it's expensive and yes, I can't afford most of the things I find there but honestly, it's a high-end retailer... what do you expect?  So, I'm not going to knock off any stars for the prices.  Instead, I am going to rate and review it for what they sell... super cute, uniquely designed, and stylish clothing and accessories.

Being a poor college student should keep me away from this place but, I can't absolutely cannot resist.  I particularly love their tops and dresses.  You'll find that most of the designs here have a unique style and design to them.  I often find it fun to just try on a lot of the cute things I find, even if I can't afford them.

The decor and overall atmosphere makes this store a very pleasant place to shop or browse in.  The store is always kept up and well organized.  The fitting room is also clean and very spacious.  Now, unlike the rest of the store, the sale section in the back is pretty crammed and literally the size of a small walk-in closet.  Space is limited in there, so it's best not to attempt looking with more than 3 or 4 people at a time.  If you come at the right time, you can find some pretty amazing deals in there.  I've found very cute tops for under $30 as well as other great deals on sweaters and dresses.

If you've dragged a bored and uninterested boyfriend or husband along, they can hang out on the right side of the store, where they have tables and shelves of books and other cool and random things.  This section of the store has fun styles of jewelry and other home accessories.  There are some pretty random things here such as candle holders, drawer knobs, switch plates, wall decor, etc., all of which have very unique and innovative designs.

Overall, Anthropologie offers fantastic and original designs that's definitely worth taking a look at.

I'm not a frequent shopper of Anthropologie as I find it to be very over-priced.  But today I may have found my BEST bargain EVER,  Went directly to the sale room in the back as those are the only things that I would even consider purchasing.  Saw a rack of things labeled $19.99, not bad.  I stumble upon a very cute ivory CASHMERE sweater w/ chunky buttons, bell sleeves and an adorable bow on the back.  Regular price $298; my sale price, $9.99!!!!!  Yes, that's not a typo, NINE DOLLARS AND NINETY-NINE CENTS.  Who needs ectasy or crack . . . I am SO high right now!!

I think this store is great because it's Anthropologie -- enough said -- and it's in the middle of Santana Row.  Nice store in nice location.  There are so many cute designs here whether it comes to home decor, blankets/quilts, china, jewelry boxes, beds, bedspreads, etc.  Then, comes the clothes:  They're very cute in a very hippie like fashion.  It's very airy and feminine and that's very much  my style.  Even though I'm a broke college student, I like to walk around here and try things on.  I haven't fell in love with any product yet because of the price. o_O*

I tried on a shirt, and when I was buttoning it up, the button came right off.  I wasn't sure whether to just hide the button or tell them...so I just told them what happened, and they apologized for it and got me a new shirt to try on.  I thought that was very considerate customer service.  I'll always feel welcomed in the fitting rooms no matter how disastrous I could be :)

I love wandering in here and shopping. The styles are super cute and I always end up with tons of compliments. Unfortunately, the bottom line is that it is mass produced clothing at boutique-y prices.

The sale area is always a huge mess and their loose knit items usually has tons of snags. I love how they write your name on the dressing room! Unfortunately they need to learn to cut down on their air freshner/perfume. I can smell the store without even walking in....

Saved by the sale section.

Anthro is one of my favorite places to look for clothes I can buy elsewhere. The prints are great, and the style descriptions read like poetry out of their catalog, but nothing is cut to fit you if you actually have breasts.

If you don't have this issue and have plenty of money to blow on cotton vintage, it's a great place. If not, cadge around the sale area you can still sometimes find great stuff for a decent price.

How does Anthropology do it?  It has the cutest designs ever but its totally overpriced for that 100% cotton material.  And it looks like it's all made in China.  Having said that, I had to buy a few items there because of their designs and patterns.  I'm such a sucker for visual stimulation.

On the plus side, my brother bought some sort of toothepaste, which had been featured in some magazines and which are hard to find in local stores.  He said it was extremely "minty".

My mom and sisters adore Anthro but I've never been a true fan.  I find it ridiculous that they sell adorable vintagey inspired apparel that is not the best quality for such a high price.  Surprisingly I found something decent in the sale cave.  A Mexican inspired white v-neck cotton blouse with bright green design on the puffy sleeves, almost peasant top like and very ethnic.  Just lovely, I feel like cruising my favorite HH in Denver with it... Cuba Cuba!

I love to visit Anthropologie!

Like many Yelpers have echoed already- it is expensive.  But it is a great place to get ideas and inspiration.

I haven't had any luck finding anything in the sale area, which is tiny and surprisingly messy.  Only about three people can fit in the room comfortably, but yet people try to cram in there.

I did purchase a dress here to wear to a wedding.  When I took the dress up to the check-out, the salesperson took the time to wrap it up nicely.  It was like buying a gift for myself.

There's something unseemly about the clearance area being hidden in the back of the store in a closet the size of a thimble.  The scene reminded me of a recent ant infestation at our house in which a colony of ants collected in a clump around a piece of dessicated donut.  The shoppers looked like that ant colony all gathered around the dessicated donut that is the clearance area.  I'm still not completely sold on the floral prints and the prairie blouses that look like something you'd find inside Laura Ingalls Wilder's closet.  But after scoring my peasant/tunic/dirndl blouse, I may be a closet Anthropologist after all.

I basically shop here at random times for accessories, candles, etc. My last purchase - a scented candle for $18. Even though the prices are pricey pricey, its worth it. I believe Anthropologie is a sister store of Urban Outfitters. So... it's like UO, but for the 20 - 30 somethings.

I shop here not for the clothes, but for the unusual items like cabinet knobs and perfume.  If you look around in their housewares, they have some really cool stuff.

The clothes are way out of my league!  Very pretty if I had a rich husband, but JC Penny's will have to do for now.

Anthropologie. How I love to say your sweet name.

An...thRO...PO...lo...GI...e...

How I adore thee:
Your clothes make me so feminine and cute; you dare me to flirt with the world again; you make me proud to show off my body with your snug fitting and low neckline outfits; you have the power to convince me that big prints can make me look petite, but at the same time be noticed by all; your staff is helpful; and your home is clean and organized.

How I hate thee:
You hint that I need to earn a little more to afford you; your clothes are not exactly well-made; you're the first to think 36DDD-30-40 isn't an ideal shape for a woman; your large prints makes me noticeable alright- I can find myself on Google's satellite map; and your zip is 95128.

Despite my thoughts about you, I will return. I'm a silly, gullible fool who is in love with you.

The sales staff here is kind, but distant.  It's a great store to visit if you like digging for a gem and appreciate being left alone to shop.  Most items are not worth paying full price, so conserve your energy for the sales section.  Once in the fitting room, expect to be asked how you're doing, and if you want anything in another size.

The checkout lines are long, but move fast.  I always glance at the home section sales while waiting in line and always find a unique apron or great gifts to keep on hand.

Another great find here is usually a book for yourself or a friend.  Books I've purchased in the past include: Picasso  & Lump (gift), On Bullshit (gift), and 7 Sins for a Life Worth Living (gift and self)....definitely not your typical Border's selection.

It's always hit or miss with me and Anthropologie. I can either see lots of things I like (and end up buying most of), or I browse and browse and browse, and not a single thing catches my eye.

When you try things on in their dressing room, they always ask for your name and write it on a little chalk/white board on your door. The girls working in the dressing room ask about 5 times during the time you're in the room "so and so, how's it going?" I guess it's good that they're asking, but once, maybe twice is enough. Any more than that and it's just annoying.

They have really cute selections of tops, pants and dresses, as well as home accessories like aprons, cups, plates, curtains and other odds and ends like books, door knobs, journals, etc.

While shopping in Santana Row, I always stop in and look around, but I never go to SR just for Anthropologie.

I so love this store! There are so many awesome treasures to be found here! I think my biggest gripe is the fact that the front doors are super heavy, and the aisles are narrow, which means that it's difficult to navigate a stroller in this store. Not very mommy friendly! Still- I can't help but be intrigued with the selections. I love the cute girly tops, beautiful flowing sundresses, delicious smelling candles, and lovely jewelery. Anthro- I love you, but I'm not in love with you!

Sorry not a fan of the muted earthy tones.  I'm obsessed with BLACK, and that 'color' is rarely available.  And is everything boxy here?!?!  Or is it just me?  I can find the same jersey shirts at Forever 21 at a fraction of the price!!!

Anyone w/curves stay away!

The customer service is always distant with an air of pretension.

Two stars for the eclectic selection of shoes, jewelry, and handbags online.

I definitely enjoy the lower end cousin: Urban Outfitters.

There's something about wandering in to this store that makes you feel almost at home.  It's so cozy and I love the way it's decorated.  The clothes are awesome but I'm too cheap to pay full price so I head straight to the sales rack.  Even sale prices can be a little expensive but oh well.

The home section is my favorite.  I love the smell of the candles and all the knick knacks such as plates, bowls, books, drawer knobs, everything you can think of!  I can spend hours in this store (and I have!).

Love their clothes, hate their prices. They always have cute clothes that look like crap on my current short-waisted, dumpy middle aged body. All this stuff would have looked great on me when I was 15. Still, I find unique styles here that I just gotta have sometimes. Just know you can drop an easy $500 here. I have and regretted it when I need to buy things like, say food, but still love the things I bought.

shameless, i know.

yes, they are the home of the $65.00 cotton t-shirt.  BUT, they have essentially branded my "granny chic" style to the point that when i'm in there shopping, other customers try to flag me down to get me to "start a fitting room" or "find a size' for them.  which means that i can ALWAYS find something cute, fabulous and to my taste here.

if i were to have a dept. store this is what it would look like, a bunch of overpriced, beautiful stuff that all had to be dry cleaned.

you will not fool me however into thinking that ANYONE looks good in a pucci inspired mumu.

Oh dear Anthro, how you challenge my pocket book with your trendy collection of urban designer clothing. I discovered this awesome dress on your website but unfortunately didn't have my size, so I went combing this store and others to find it, but alas to no avail.

It's ok however, since while I was looking for this dress, I found a cute tea set on the sale table. But um why does this store open at 11am on a Sunday during holiday season? HRM??? It should be 10 people! The sales people were very helpful at this location and very nice in trying track down that dress for me.

I loooove Anthropologie since I love simple, colorful patterns.  Everything's so girly and classic.  When the store first opened, they seemed to have a lot of overpriced "ethnic" pieces, but it seems they're straying away from those styles nowadays (still overpriced though!).  I remember years back I bought a bunch of wallets for the females in my family.  They were made in Hanoi, Vietnam, so I had to think long and hard whether to spend $38/wallet when i knew they had to be less than $5/wallet in Vietnam.

Definitely, try everything on.  They carry so many labels that it's not a guarantee that your usual sizes will fit.  Plus things usually look cuter when it's on the hanger and 50% off.  Workers are usually extremely friendly.

They have one of the best return policies as long as you have your original receipt (which I always hold onto, of course).  I was able to return a pair of sunglasses that I'd put off returning 8 months after I'd bought them!  Most people would just hold onto them, but they were kinda ugly after I looked at them again so I appreciate Anthro looking out for customers like me who start returning things they don't need when they're feeling broke!  They also have price adjustment within 2 weeks.  I'm gonna assume Urban Outfitters has similar policies.

Every item of clothing I've purchased from there has made me extremely happy.  You do have to try everything on in this store.  Sure, unique is cool, but it always doesn't fit your style.  Some things that look awesome on a manquein or someone else are just looks that I can not pull off personally on myself.   Especially if you're spending a lot of money for your clothes, you should really find something that fits well and that you love.

This place is so odd.
I smirk at the contradiction of how they try to be so artsy-fartsy/earthy/small boutiquey/bohemian/anti-corporation yet each of the 6 Anthropologies I've visited have the same over-priced stuff...and I'm sure the other 50 stores do as well. My favorite piece of crap to date has to be the 'weathered' iron trellis things for $4,000. Who the f*** are they kidding? I could pick it up for $50 at a salvage lot.
BUT...2 stars for some of the cute tops.

Usually, when I walk by Anthropologie stores, I see something cool in the window, but then I go inside and find nothing that's right for me.  The clothes have a nice quaint, vintage style, but tend to be on the pricier side.  And I'm the kind of person who wouldn't  wear an outfit that looks like it could've come from a second hand store or garage sale if it really cost over $150. Anyway, today, I was walking by Anthropologie at Santana Row, and I decided to check it out.  Those window decorations always suck me in.   I was pleased to see that they had a lot of spring clothes and dresses and skirts in stock.   And I was more pleased when I actually found some items I wanted to try on.  And I actually bought a skirt and a top that I'm very pleased with.

Ok I love anthropologie, but I swear everything is pretty pricey unless they have a sale! That's why I love/hate it!

I only (for the most part) purchase goodies from Anthro when they're on sale. They have wonderful sales, too... I've gotten the coolest stuff during their sales! It's the only time I can afford them! Their clothing doesn't always fit me right, so I don't tend to buy them. It's their dishes, lanterns, hardware and table ware that entice me! I love the vintage but updated feel of their wares... It blends in with my own collection of vintage dishes and glassware. But it's so much more fun and funky! I love it! Go for the sales, ladies. They often give 50-70% off when they're closing stuff out, whether it's at the store, or online. The minus one star is because the clothes are SUPER expensive and don't fit me right. Mostly because they don't fit me right. :-(

But they certainly do have a way with their marketing and merchandising, don't they? SO INSPIRING!!!!

You should visit Anthropologie frequently just to see the best window displays of any store out there today.  How do they continually some up with such awesome designs?  As for the clothes, they're absurdly expensive, and if I were looking for that funky look, I would head down the street to Urban Outfitters.
