Cleaning house just isn't my thing. It just doesn't come naturally to me. I would much rather use my time to hula-hoop, dance, or read up on my smudge screened i-phone about the latest super-foods. But as anyone can attest to - a clean place is not only calming, but it encourages productivity and provides even more space for hula-hooping and dancing. Basically it's a win-win in the end.

One of the best ways I've found to inspire a big cleaning spree - is to buy a new accent for my space, which then in turn encourages me to get excited about my space and in turn forces me to clean it.

Anthropologie is the quintessential spot to buy such darling room additions. From floral door knobs, to stunning jewelry trees, to frilly shower curtains, to soft plush bedspreads, to charming butter plates - Anthropologie is full of cleaning inspired gems.

    Trust.

You should go to this store if you really enjoy rude, unhelpful, obnoxios "customer service staff" with attitudes.  Also, If you're in a good mood and want to be made to feel like garbage, go to this store.

After being told by the friendly and helpful staff at the Corte Madera store that they would gladly ship whatever multiple rugs we wanted to purchase to our house free of shipping charge, we made some final decisions and stopped into the downtown store to place our order.

I have never been made to feel like SUCH and inconvenience.  After the girl behind the counter made it clear that they DONT actually do that (order from the store to your house), she stomped off in a huff to get her manager (who was only slightly less rude) who agreed to do it, but made it very clear that that was not something they should feel obligated to do ever agian.

After more hostility, attitude, and constant updates and reminders of the arduous task we were putting this girl through, she informed us that she would need to call the catalogue.  Minutes later she she informs us they would waive the shipping but that we would have to pay a $20.00 PER RUG charge for oversize shipment. THAT'S A SHIPPING CHARGE LAST TIME I CHECKED!

What this chick didn't know is that I have very recently ordered a rug of comparable size online, and knew that the shipping was 15.95.  So not sure where she got this 20 per rug number.

Needless to say, at that point I was feed up with being treated like an inconvenience and not at customer that has spent LOTS of money at the store and was ATTEMPTING to spend a lot more and left.

My husband and I really wanted the rugs so we ended up just coming home and  buying them online and guess what?!  THE SHIPPING FOR BOTH THE 5 FT. ROUND RUGS WAS ONLY 15.95,  NOT THE 20 per rug she was trying to charge us at the store.  Still unsure as to why she was trying to over charge us by 24 dollars when the whole point was to save the money in first place.

Far and beyond the best Anthropologie location I have ever visited.  Even on a busy day, I was offered prompt help multiple times.  Santana Row and Roseville locations just fall flat in terms of their service, size, and merchandising.

This SF location is one of the reasons I've been an enthusiastic customer to the brand for years.

Avoid at all costs, especially during sales.  The staff become overwhelmed, customers treat the store like a pigsty and leave merch everywhere and lines are ridiculous.

Clothes design has really gone down hill in the past couple of seasons too, fabrics suck (I see way too much poly, if that was I wanted, then I'd just walk over to F21 and pay 1/8th of the price!), but prices are still too high.

I guess it costs a lot to look like an uptight Glee teacher.

This review is for two things:  1) the unique retail choices for wardrobe and home (though I wish the boho style wasn't so pervasive) and 2) the customer care from Joseph -- he can ALWAYS find something in store that I spied online...he not only has that friendly, can-do helpful attidude, is style-savvy, and honest about whether or not it looks good on you, but he has the gift of exceptional visiual memory...this saves me time and aggravation.  Anthro can make you agrro with all the inventory they carry...

BEST ANTHRO LOCATION I've visited thus far.

I must confess that this specific location holds a special place in my heart as it is the very first brick & mortar Anthro I started shopping in, back in 2002.  From 1999 to 2001, for me, it was all browsing through their catalogues and buying that way.  When I first stepped into this location, I felt like hitting myself over the head thinking, "What have I been missing?!??  How did I do all of my shopping via catalogue when this place has literally OODLES OF OTHER ITEMS NOT FOUND IN THEIR CATALOGUE!"

Smiles, this location is amazing with their huge clearance section located on the bottom floor and again, tons of other items that never made it to the seasonal catalogue.  I kinda chuckled when I saw that this location actually carried Jake's Dry Goods tees.  Niiiice.

This review is not only for the store, but for their site as well.

My first experience with Anthropologie was online; initially I was a bit surprised with their prices, which are a tad up there, but was willing to splurge on a gorgeous black blouse with lace sleeves and back. Shipping was relatively quick, and even the packaging they send your orders packed in is really fancy and of great quality. The blouse is one of the nicest things I've ever added to my wardrobe.

I walked into their store for the first time today and was really impressed with how trendy and modern their decor is. The entire space, both floors, are open, airy, and bright, with a lot of room to walk around. Upstairs is clothes, bath and body, and accessories, with the bottom floor featuring more clothes and home wares. Even the fitting rooms and fitting area is impressive, with your own individual, private, spacious room with a full length mirror, floor to ceiling, running the entire width of the wall. The staff was super friendly and not at all pushy.

In the end, even though I determined that most of what they sell isn't my style, I can still say that I was impressed with both their ease of service online and great in store experience.

Online ordering screwed me over five days before Christmas.

Canceled an order that I had put in TWO WEEKS prior for my mom's holiday present. Did not receive coupon or offer to help with rush shipping. Just...canceled. Wrote customer service a nasty letter, will probably not shop here for a while.

~This review is for an event that was held at Anthroplogie.~

Okay, I have to let you in a secret. I have been flowing Holly Becker for the past 5 years on her Blog Décor8.  When I found out that Anthropologie  was going to have her in person from Germany, You know I had to be there!

Holly has written a book called Decorate. It is an inspirational book about tips, guides, and design ideas for your home.  If you not seen the book you should take a look at it.

Anthropologie and Holly did an event called a the mood board in the store. She even had her friend Leslie Shewring in the store as well, they were talking about what they use for inspiration for a mood board, it can be color swatches, fabric, flowers and anything that makes you feel good.

The event had  nice seating arrangement and lots of snacks. The event  was a lot fun. I got to meet other bloggers, artist, and inspirational folks as well.

At the end of the event, I got to meet Holly and she was nice and kind.  She signed my book and I was extremely happy.

Thank You Anthropologie for having Holly Becker come to your store! It was amazing!

I love this store n have been a customer for a few years. Their merchandise keeps me closer to my French heritage :-) and staff are pleasant to work with. I've never had a dispute and they worked with me on odd questions I had, took their time and didn't rush me, and I LOVE the variety of products. :-)
Yes some products are pricey but the sales are pretty good too! In alot of cases, the materials are of the quality that reflects the cost. Also, I've found that articles found here (esp clothing) is NOT found in other stores I've poked around in and the cost is worth it to me.  Alot of their pieces too are classic and don't really go out of style. Even the quirky colorful stuff...because again the materials are of good quality, not the cheaply made stuff you see at Urban Outfitters for example.

I like this store as it is conveniently located across the street from the West Field mall, so I stopped by each time I made the trip up to the city to shop at the mall. It also has a big collection of clothing and some nice scarfs and handbags. Each time I stopped by I picked up a few pieces to add to my wardrobe. Don't be fooled by the apparently "hippi" style clothing when you first set foot in the store. They actually have some nice outfits that are designed elegantly and are good for more formal social occasions.

On the weekends during the holiday season, this place can get busy. There was a line waiting to use the fitting room when I was there last Sat. The girls working the fitting room were helpful in getting the stuff you need. Be careful, though, if you buy a few items at a time. Once the cashier girl neglected to remove the magnetic tag on one of the items I bought. Even though the alarm went off when I was leaving the store, they checked the contect of my bag but could not find any tag. I went home only to discover there still was a tag in there. I had to go back to their Palo Alto store to return that item and get a refund back. That was a little annoying as neither of these two store are close to where I live.

This two-storied Anthro is right across the street from the Westfield Shopping Center and in the heart of all the crazed Powell/Market foot traffic.  The street-level floor is pretty tiny, but their lower-level floor is pretty large.  I got a little lost looking for their fitting room (need to walk pass the shoe section).

Everything is neat and organized.  Their sale section is pretty decently organized, but it's super cramped.  I've noticed that a lot of Anthros like to put their sale section all the way in the back in the tiniest space possible.  What is up with that?  Anyway, all their displays are quite darling.  Currently, the main attraction is a replica of the GG Bridge, partially constructed with Rice-A-Ronie (?) boxes.  One of the girls told me that it's only a temporary display so if you want to see it, check it out before Fall arrives.

Try taking public transportation or get dropped off a couple blocks away because foot and car traffic is insane in this area.

    I absolutely love this store.
Very clean and organized and the staff is very friendly.
    The prices though...YIKES!

Check their official website every Tuesday for their new items in the sale section.
Make sure you sign up for their newsletter also for those VERY rare sales.
The Black Friday in store/online sale was just EPIC period. 50% off all sale items.

Us Anthro Addicts need more sales events please! =)

4 stars for the store, 5 stars for their website.

Anthropologie is one of my favorite stores and even if you don't like their clothes, it's nice to just go in and enjoy the amazing decor. I tend to puchase from their website more often than the store. However, the stock online goes faster, so you're likely to find something sold out online still in the store. I really like Anthropologie's in house brands because the designs don't follow trends and the prices are more affordable than more mainstream brands. The retail prices are still high, especially considering the recent quality of their clothing, but the sale prices are very reasonable. Compared to other mid-range retailers, I think Anthropologie's clothing is much more interesting, of better quality, and more affordable. Their return policy is also one of the best. The SF store has a nice sale section and it's located conveniently in the midst of downtown shopping.

This store is great in that they have a few levels and a cash wrap on both levels in case the lines are long. If you are there close to closing the workers can be a little snappy as they probably want to go home early, and generally won't let you try anything on or even acknowledge you sometimes. I totally understand this, but sometimes it seems like they could be a little more friendly about it considering you are ready to spend some money.

Stock at this store is less than optimal. If there is something you really want, call first. They are awesome at tracking items down and placing on hold for you. They can also tell you what stores have the items you are looking for and many times ship items to your home store (from other stores) for free. But usually, they sell out of the things I'm always looking for very quickly, so I have to call first now.

Sale rack is pretty good and yes, they finally have shoes in-store which is really great.

If you're never been to an Anthropologie store, get ready to step into heaven. The clothing at Anthro doesn't follow trends but for years has provided beautifully crafted, uniquely feminine clothing (oh yeah, and beauty products, home goods, and furniture). The sizes run a little generous on the tops, and on some of the pants as well. Usually, the clerks in the fitting room are very honest about feedback which is pretty helpful. This is a fantastic place to go buy someone a gift and walk out with something for your intended recipient and for yourself as well.

All in all, the women in this store are really nice, helpful, and friendly, but try to get there early so they can go home on time.

The new layout is fabulous!  I love that you get everything from doorknobs and blankets to dresses and earrings. What I don't love are the prices.  I eyed this one dress only to discover it's $248 price tag. Yikes!  I rarely can find my size in the sale rack so either it's cough up the dollars or miss out on a great piece.

    Dog-friendly to boot.

Always fun to browse this store. I rarely ever buy the clothing unless it's on sale - then I'll maybe invest in a sweater or an embroidered top - but they have great housewares. The home stuff can be pricey too, but I've scored some deals on plates and mugs and I love the coffee table books, candles, and perfumes that are scattered throughout each floor. Definitely go on their mailing list and/or get a membership card if you like to shop here, because they send you a cute gift and discount coupon during your birthday month.

While I do admire the kitchen ware and store displays, I don't spend my money here if I can help it.

I can rag on their quality of clothing elsewhere but as for this particular store, I found the customer service to be pretty average which is painful considering you expect to get something exceptional other than high priced clothing.

I spent a good chunk of change on a bridal shower gift for a friend that loves this store and have bought other gifts here before. In all my shopping experiences at this store, I find the salesmen to be much more friendly and approachable than the women -- no idea if they are gay or straight but they do a better job than their female counterparts. They seem to be noticeably more helpful than the women and they even crack those things called "smiles" once in awhile.

You can get a dry and unconvincing "welcome to anthropologie" when you enter the store. But you can get some real tips on whether something is a good idea to buy for a friend, from the sales dudes.

Anyway, I wish the customer service was more even across the board. But now I know who to ask my questions to.

This store has a boho chic feel, that martha stewart would love to rummage through. I feel like their clothes are hit or miss for my taste, but when it's a hit, I LOVE IT! They always have some of the newest and best candles and lotions sold in their stores, and other bobbles and bits for your house. It's not just a clothing store, its a lifestyle.

I have mixed feelings about this store. On one hand, I've gotten some to-die-for items that I have literally worn to death. On the other hand, said clothing death tends to come awfully soon considering how much these cost.

And ultimately, that's what makes Anthropologie a 3-star rather than 4-star shop: the clothes are cheaply made. They cost a lot, but the materials and the fashioning are shoddy. Anthropologie takes these beautiful designs (truly, this stuff can enter the realm of "wearable art") and tosses them into sweatshops to be hacked together with 2nd-rate materials almost guaranteed to fall apart if they get any serious wear.

Those of you who shop at Nordstrom and other places that take materials seriously know what I'm talking about. Fragile fashion is one thing - a beaded silk chiffon blouse, for example, requires careful handling. But there's the conscious use of a high-quality material that happens to be fragile and careless use of poor quality material simply because the merchant is a cheap-ass or just doesn't care. With clothing as beautiful as some of the stuff that I find in this store, intentionally dooming them seems an act bordering on the criminal.

I still buy stuff sometimes (I'm actually typing this while waiting for the store to open so I can purchase a $150 jacket), but not as often as I might, and I'm actively seeking an alternative.

I have good memories of "Anthro". And, since my size doesn't change much, I still have clothes from their better days ... a few years ago, when not everything they stocked was made of Sweatshirt.

But boy, have they jumped the shark. Here's how:

    1) Terrible customer service.

On a good day, the catatonic girls (and occasional guys) on the floor and at the cashwrap perform the basics of perfunctory service. On a bad day, they are both blind ("yeah, I know you're first in line to pay for that, but I'm still going to pretend I don't see you; now watch me just sort of walk off, to do more of not much at all") and rude. On no condition will they ever, ever smile. (Not at you. At each other? Sure!)

    2) Poor care of all items in the store.

Whether an item is full-price or on sale, no one here is in charge of taking any care of it. You might pay something like $150 for a full-price dress with hook-and-eye closures that are loose or missing, because nobody cares. As for the sale section: I don't mind finding things on the floor in my own closet; I know how they got there. But when there are 10 people working the floor here, shouldn't one of them be in charge of picking s**t up?

    3) Overpriced, silly merchandise.

Look, I like the idea of romantic outerwear as much as the next person. But I have issues with what's on offer here. One, is there really such a thing as a Gothic appliqued sweatshirt? And two, is a single layer of felt really the direction anyone wants to take with outerwear? (We're not Muppets, after all.)

    4) Contempt.

See all of the above. If you've shopped here lately, that feeling that's come over you at some point: this is the name for it. "Anthro" and its employees all hate you. They can't wait for you to leave.

Anthro, this is Anne B. Back atcha.

LOVE Anthropologie and love this large Union Square location in downtown SF. Every time I enter the store I immediately feel a sense of calm and relaxation. It must be the smell of the scented candles burning throughout the store. The creative displays, beautiful art installations and lovely and unique clothes, housewares, and accessories keep me coming back each time I'm in Union Square. The customer service is hit or miss at this location.

I LOVE the Voluspa and Capri Blue candles. I also love the Anthro website... it's so well done.

A better name for this business would be "Women's Clothing Store."  Or, if you are trying for the conceit of an academic discipline, "Feminology."  Excuse me, "Feminologie."

While there are many mannequins and heaps of examples of society and culture from the current, existing world, there is almost nothing in this establishment that would constitute the field of anthropology per se.  In other words, if you are expecting artifacts, mummies, examples of preceeding culture from around the globe... this is not the place.  (If you were wondering, the Phoebe Hearst Museum of Anthropology on the UC Berkeley campus does a much better job of this.)

On the other hand, you can find shirts that were made in Mexico or other interesting places from around the world.

And I did pick up one (since I am pretty much lemons into lemonade).  And I'm pretty happy with it.  So three stars.

We've established that this is who I am between four walls that extend into infinity, right?

    Love. Anthropologie.

I literally stumbled across cobblestone streets from my hotel on Post to the Grand Puba of all Anthros on the west coast (in my book) and the close-to-sole reason for my flying in for work on a Sunday. *Le gasp*

Nice and large, great layout, ever-changing displays (the SF store really seems to shine in this way) and a sales team that knows how to keep their distance while a quirky girl does her thing.

Bought a skirt with horses on it; the fabric looks and feels a little like burlap.

And it's got lots of dark brown stallions on it.

    And a black, attached petticoat.

I wear it with black slouchy cowboy-style boots from Steve Madden and drive myself crazy!   Wee!!

    I own my dork.

Anyhoo, if you're unique and love items that match your unmatchable style, Anthropologie is your store.  And this location is the bees' knees.

I am a HUGE fan of Anthro and have been for years!!!  It's always comforting to know that there is a store nearby and this store is a perfect size!!

The staff to customer ratio is a bit lacking, but the service you do get if you can find someone is fab.   Although I usually know exactly what I am looking for when I go in I always find something new and they have a great sale area that was jam packed with recently reduced items (perfect for some "extra" pieces).

A little messy but overall very satisfied!!  I am excited to visit A LOT more!!

Man, if I were a rich girl, I would shop here every single day of my life. Their stuff is amazing, but they lose a star because I am not rich and usually cannot afford paying over $200 for a single skirt, dress, or top.  I know they are pretty much a place where you go to get like special items and not every day wear, I am a girlie girl who loves cute skirts, dresses and blouses and try to wear them on a regular basis. Thankfully, I did however win a $100 gift certificate for their store, but $100 is like a drop in the bucket for that store.  I did manage to score an $18 perfume (that smells really really nice!) two Paris label sets, a set  of rolls of Paris deco tape, some really nice measuring spoons, and a nail polish. This came out for $94, including tax.  As cute as it all was, I probably never would have bought any of it (well, maybe the perfume, an $18 perfume is quite a bargain!) if I didn't have the gift card as I usually prefer to get more bang for my buck. But this place has some of the cutest, most unique, well made stuff I've ever seen, I'll always be a fan, even though I am not rich enough (yet!) to shop there on a regular basis!

I've purchashed from here twice, and been here multiple times and got AMAZING deals and quality, cool items. They could work on their service, but I noticed they are getting better.

    Good job guys!

Not the greatest or friendliest customer service.  It was my birthday earlier this month and so I received a 15% off coupon off a one-time full purchase anytime this month.

I was so excited - that discount card was a burning a hole in my purse!  So today, I shopped with joy, got a couple things for myself and some gifts, and then I got to the counter to excitedly tell the cashier about my discount, and the girl was so blah, oh...uhuh, not even a gratuitous "happy birthday".  Wow, thanks, guess she wasn't in a good mood - I didn't care so much because I still got my discount (!!), but that so-called "customer service" leaves a bit of a bad taste.

I don't think I will be running back to Anthropologie to do my shopping - unless they send me another discount card that is!  Haha.

This review is all the men who get dragged here by their girlfriends, fiancees, or wifes. Notice that I didn't say wives, that's illegal.

For me, my fiancee loves Anthropologie, or what is affectionately called Anthro these days. So, I know the drill when we come to one of these stores. Let her browse to her heart's content while I stay out of the way. I like this Anthro because when you walk downstairs, (and I mean downstairs, not where that random sheep made of paper is) there is a nice curved seating area/bench thingy which offers ample seating room. I bet at one point they used to put random trinkets on it to sell, but it turns out that this is a pretty good place for all the guys who come here to sit. When I was here, there were about 5 guys all sitting in this area, playing on their smart phones. For a moment, we all had a common understanding of our purpose and shared in our suffering.

So thanks to smart phones, you'll be able to make it through a 30 minute to 1 hour shopping session. If you run out of battery, try browsing for new bathroom knobs or think about how you could decorate your home with alphabet letters. There are some random books too, including some with nice pictures, but some might not for you if you don't know how to read =(

You know how every now and then you have an amazing life changing kind of event.

New job, new home, read a great book, a first date, and then if you're lucky...POW CHICA POW POW...life changing, right? Well, OK. Maybe not.

Recently my younger sister got a promotion. She told me, I will buy you anything that you want as long as it is less than somewhat buckos.

This is ridiculously life changing because I don't think in her twenty something years of life, she ever bought me a gift. Of course, I don't expect her to.

On the other hand, my older sis spoils me like I'm worth every penny. Ahem..and I am.

But, younger sis has been scrounging off me since her days in the highchair all the way up to her days at CAL. So, you can see why this is a life changing event.

We traipsed around shops in the Mission, to Hayes, and finally to Union Square.

By the time we arrived at Anthropologie, younger sis already was lugging around 3 bags of items for herself.

Me, nada. Lousy shopper. Couldn't find that one item that was going to change my fuckin' life and make this the best sister bonding moment ever.

Finally, I find this cute blousy like shirt at Anthropologie.

Size 0 - couldn't breathe, Size 2 - waist fine, but boobs are suffocating. Size 8 - TOO BIG. WHERE'S THE FREAKING SIZE 4 and 6??

I could have scored a cute little blousy like shirt, but I couldn't find my damn size.

    Fuck the Gods.

Buy me cake and lets call it a day.

OVERALL: Clothing line is hip with a romantic, vintage, and classic flair. Shoes range from hip Mary Janes to modernized cowboy boots. Wonderful array of jewelry and accessories to fit that overall look.

I didn't realize until we were inside that there's more to this store than clothing.  Furniture, fascinating art lamps, linens and bathroom stuff, kitsch ... It's like a mini Macy's.  The price tags are expensive, and it looks like most of the customers are, too.  Some of the clothing looks really good, but none of it looks like I wouldn't find it somewhere else.

As a living gallery, this place is tops!

Bottom line:  Did we buy anything?  Well, no ...

In college, Anthropologie was my favorite store.

I hadn't shopped there in a long time. So long, that I couldn't remember why. And then suddenly, I got a whole bunch of gift certificates all at once. I went shopping! Yay!

It didn't take long to remember why I hadn't been there in a while.

No store has embraced this whole enormous top with skinny pants aesthetic quite like Anthropologie.

Have we, as a society, all gotten pregnant? Or is fashion finally caving to the egregiously large percentage of Americans who are overweight? I don't understand what is going on here! Normal-sized bodies are not enhanced by muumuus!

Almost every shirt I tried on had the following problems:

    1) My boobs hung out from the enormous neckhole. Yes, I understand that we are supposed to layer these tops or something, but like, if all 3 shirts I am wearing don't cover my boobs, then collectively, they will not cover my boobs. Duh.

    2) They hit me at like mid-thigh range. Some of the shirts they are selling are long enough to be considered decent in most Catholic high schools WITHOUT PANTS. If they covered your boobs. Which they don't.

2a) If they start making pants that cover your boobs to rectify this problem, I am through with clothing.

    3) They looked really strange on me in particular because they were baggy everywhere else and tight in the butt. According to women's fashion, my booty is disproportionately large. I've never really had to worry about SHIRTS being tight in the butt though.

After trying on like 15 tops before giving up, I thought I maybe I was just being unadventurous in my fashion choices and I should try to meet with the free in-store personal stylist to find the best pregnancy top for me. Then I heard a girl scream from the dressing room over, "OH MY GOD! It looks like a curtain!"

    So it's not just me.

I think my gift certificates will have to wait until muumuu chic goes out of style or I need a whole bunch of decorative pillows and a book about manners.

    September.  My birthday month.

I received a 15% coupon in the mail from Anthro.

Listed in order, here are the reactions I had:

a.)  panic.  What?!  one time use only?!  but it's my birthday, can't I celebrate the whole month?

b.) rush, rush, rush to the store.

c.) checked my bank account.  When the heck is payday anyway?!

d.) contemplated withdrawing $$ from my IRA, risking stiff penalties so I can afford to buy EVERYTHING in here including the $900 creamy yellow tufted leather sofa.

e.) secretly hoped I was dating a person who works at Anthro so I can get a discount in addition to my 15% off

This 2 story shopper's delight has earthy, vintage-y, retro-cool, with modern touch designs.  Of course that makes it for a grueling 2 hours of some serious shopping.  Browsing through the sales rack, touching every skirt/sweater/dress, waiting in line, trying them on, grabbing more stuff  thinking "oh, I can afford this. I have 15% off!"

Was I shocked that I spent 2 weeks worth of groceries here?

    YES.

    Do I have buyer's remorse?

    NO.

Will I be eating cereal everyday this week?

    YES.

Damn. I better get more milk then.

I was walking down the street last night minding my own business... ok fine I was shopping for shoes, but I can't admit that these days, people are starting to talk.  Wait, whaaaa, Anthropologie!  I stopped in my tracks.  I heard of this place from yelper girls.  There's frilly stuff, lacy stuff, causes orgasms in women.  I was curious.  I had to look.

Wait I couldn't.  I felt naughty... like I was entering a forbidden place.  This is girly stuff, guys not allowed.  Heck with it *deep breath* I'm going in.  I stopped breathing.  I was apprehensive.  Don't make eye contact with the sales girls... make up an answer in case they ask if I need help.

Wow, lots of weird stuff.  Clothes, plates, even dresser knobs.  What do girls do in here?  Its a mish mash of everything.  I wander around.  I'm starting to relax.  I feel the estrogen wash over me... my inner woman is coming out.  Mmmm, that Aloha Orchid candle smells nice.  And its in a cool green glass with a metal cover.  Smelling all the other candles, all of them.  Looking at the clothes, one is 95% cotton and 5% elastic, must be comfortable.

I really want that Aloha candle.  What?  28 bucks?  *snap* Testosterone kicks in.  Got my senses back.  No way I'm spending $28 for a candle.  I'm transformed back to being a guy.  I look around the store, there's sofas dispersed everywhere.  Lodged in the sofas are other guys, bored, obviously husbands and boyfriends, maybe some boyfriends of husbands, all waiting for the women folk to finish shopping... boy they look tortured.

But not me.  I'm here by my own free will, by myself, a single straight man.  Where am I?  The twilight zone?

    Dear Anthropologie,

I have coveted you from afar for quite a while now. I daydream about painting hummingbirds, frolicking in the savannah, and shopping for organic produce in your whimsical, bohemian frocks. Store and catalog browsing has me yearning for that effortless, yet stylishly put together look - but always left with that pit in my stomach so characteristic of unrequited love. For it could never be, with me being the poor perpetual student and the price for your affections costing more than can be considered reasonable for me.

But this past weekend, I finally got to have a piece of you all to myself...a tank top for $15! I don't know whether to be happy or worried to now own something from you, because I have a feeling that my hunger will just escalate more and more until I'm finally forking over $200 for a dress. For now, our affair will have to be limited to stolen glances and brief encounters with the hit-or-miss Sale Rack. Perhaps a candle or some housewares will provide a temporary high...but the clothes, ahh they will always be what I desire. DAMN YOU! LOVE IS SUCH A BITCH!

    Yours truly, your secret admirer,
    Steph P.

I love this store.  I've wasted a lot of time on the Anthropologie website, but I've never actually bothered to peruse its physical location.  It's really well decorated, it smells great, and I just wanted to stay in there forever which is amazing this close to Christmas.  Plus, the sales associates were not giving me the same hassled irritable look that I got everywhere else I went yesterday.

I'd suggest looking at the price before you try anything on (I really need to adopt that habit).  I almost impulse bought this $258 dollar sweater because it looked really nice on me:
    http://www.anthropolog...

I love the way their clothes fit and they're very comfortable.  There aren't many stores where I feel confident that I could find something with a very short time limit, but this is one of them.
