Review from Virgo M.
Bay Area, CA
One afternoon a couple of years ago, on a flight from Baton Rouge to Dallas, I spent an hour speaking with an amazing woman. I never found out her name but she was an eloquent talker transplanted to the South from the Bay Area. She told me 20 years ago, her husband accepted a job to be head PhD of Mathematics at LSU. Leaving San Francisco was hard but they quickly transitioned and grew to love their new country home in Louisiana. It was clear to me she was very well-to-do. She was on her way back to the West Coast to enjoy a weekend of shopping with her daughter. This is where our conversation shifted from travel to shopping, and food.
She was a bit put off to hear that after three visits, I hadn't yet enjoyed any of her favorite places to eat, or shop. She joked, yet insisted, I dig into my purse to find something to write down all of the great information she was about to bestow upon me. Pen and paper now in hand, I spent the rest of our flight listening, and writing.
She had a way with words and was very passionate about the things she loved. She often used her hands to describe the wonderful meals she and her husband have enjoyed over the years. The places varied from inexpensive to real fine dining. I remember thinking this lady would be a superstar if she had a show on the Food Network.
As the flight descended, she was describing a restaurant that was in the same shopping center as her favorite shop called "Anthropologie." Then, she shifted the discussion to the store and her love for their things. I didn't quite get it. It was like a small clothes store but they had house ware and bedding too. And, the soaps and perfumes were her personal favorites for herself and gifts.
My no-named one hour friend was quite intriguing to say the very least. I acknowledged her with hero status and secretly fantasized of being her long lost daughter. Over way too soon, we landed, deplaned, and parted ways to each of our own connecting flights.
Its unfortunate that I have not had the opportunity to make it back to Baton Rouge since then. If I ever do, my list is tucked away at home in a safe place. In the meantime, I stumbled upon this particular "Anthropologie" at the outdoor Gateway Mall. Instantly, my long lost pseudo Mom popped into my head and I just had to go in.
Okay, now I get what she meant. This place is quite lovely. Aimlessly, I wandered around touching and feeling all of the wonderful things. Most things are quite pricey but I'd have to say worth it--for the quality and uniqueness they bring.
After about 30 minutes, I decided to purchase a cute trio of kitchen towels. The colors will go very nice with the dream kitchen I have in mind for my remodel one day. $24.00 seemed like a lot to pay for dish towels, but I convinced myself it was actually a long term investment of a fond memory.Listed in: Big Love

I've noticed that you either love Anthropologie or you don't. There's not a lot of middle ground with this store, mostly because the style is so well-defined and distinct. It's essentially the lovechild of shabby chic and vintage that was born in a farmhouse on really colorful linens. Everything is mismatchy and bright and girly and fabulous. I tend to focus on buying their house *stuff* and it never fails to delight me. If I could pick up the entire store and set it down inside my condo, I'd consider my interior design work done.
The reason I gave them 4 instead of 5 stars is because their clothing comes in sizes 0-2 and not much else. It's obnoxious. Other than that, it's perfection. -

Another of my very favorite stores, Anthropologie is always refreshing and a perfect stop for any shopping trip! The store is always decorated perfectly and the clothes, bags, homewares and accessories they carry are so different and fun, you won't be able to resist. They are a bit pricey, but I have found that if you invest in a few staple pieces they are always well made and will last forever. Even if you aren't looking to spend a lot, some of their jewelry and their perfumes are reasonable and you will be hard pressed to find them anywhere else. For those looking for a special "find", this is your place. Nothing run-of-the-mill about it!
