I love Anthropologie clothes and the selection and presentation at this location is excellent. The housewares section is so perfectly detailed I walk in and think I need everything.

They keep the store clean and organized and always help to find my size at another location if they don't have it there. The salespeople are really great. Normally I don't go for employee recommendations; after all, I know what I like, right? But they have brought me items I normally wouldn't pick up which turn out to be different and interesting.

I recently went in to buy jeans and they found exactly the style I wanted on the second try. This is definitely a personal record.

The only recommendation I have would be to help people through the lines more quickly, especially at holiday time.

Lovely store and thanks for the help!

This Anthropologie location is truly welcome. I never loved having to go downtown or to the suburbs to shop. Parking on Southport is pretty easy, too! Win-win.

There is not a ton of inventory at this store for it being so big. I was disappointed. When I have shopped here, most of the shoppers are in the sale section - perhaps attributing to the lack of selection overall in the store.

I will continue to shop here because I love the store, but I will be getting more stuff online because the selection is slim.

Oh Anthropologie, I have a love hate relationship with you.  On one hand, they have a great selection of unique clothing items.  I love that the pieces I get here are truly unique and in many ways, aren't anchored to trends.  I still have several pieces I got here years ago that still elicit compliments.  Whenever I want something with a little extra flare, Anthro is it.

I also have to give them props for the overall store.  The visual displays are always beautiful and shopping in the store feels like a unique and pleasant experience.

Unfortunately, my compliments stop there.  This pains me because I really DO love this store and continue to shop there, but there are a few things that irk me.

The first is the quality of the clothes.  This seems to be hit or miss depending on the designer.  I have had some pieces that have worn well for years and others (sweaters especially) that have worn horribly.  I now have two sweaters where the neckline has frayed entirely.  Yes, I wear them often, but I have similar sweaters from J Crew and Banana Republic that are older that have held together better.  Unfortunately here cost does not always equal quality.  Generally they are good about exchanging things if there is a problem and the garment is relatively new, but I wish there were fewer problems in the first place.

The other problem is that this store does not seem to be adequately staffed for the level of traffic it gets.  I've tried shopping both at popular and off times and always endure a long wait at the registers.  And while I've never waited for a dressing room I do often have to wait awhile if I need a new size in something or pairing suggestions.  I love how helpful their dressing room attendants are and they have given me some great suggestions, but they usually seem overwhelmed and will offer to grab me something only for me to have to tell them to forget it 20 minutes later because I need to get on with my shopping.

Overall I LOVE how adorable the clothes are and the feel of the store, I just wish the quality was better and the service a bit more attentive.

I love you Anthropologie on Southport.  Don't ever change.  You bring me happiness.  You smell so good.  Your interior design is always fantastic.  You had coffee and donuts out when I came to make my Christmas returns.  I want to live in your store.

    This.Is.It.

The best Anthro location we have in Chicagoland, hands down. I should know, I've shopped them all.

It's bright and airy, big without being overwhelming, positively well stocked, meticulously organized, ample in the dressing room arena and staffed with ladies that are as lovely as the day is long.

Shopping here is truly a breeze, though more often than not a complete detriment to my bank account. There is something about the air in here that makes me go buying bananas! Must be all those Voluspa candles. Yummy!

You'll always find me scampering around the store with armfuls of dresses, rompers, trenches, full shirts, boho blouses, pillows, dishes, soaps, the works. I can never get enough! Thankfully, Anthropologie has the "My Anthro" card program where all of your purchases are saved in their system and makes for truly easy peasy returns and exchanges anytime. Really. Anytime! I've brought unworn dresses - you know the ones, they stare out from your closet garnering pangs of shoppers remorse - back over a year later for a full price refund. Give it up for great service!

Parking on Southport is also shockingly easy given the bustling nature of the neighborhood, my L.A. woman drivin' self positively adores this.

Lovely Wares. Easy Shopping. Ideal Location. Fashionista approved.

I'm starting to notice a trend here - every time I visit Anthropologie, I'm actually revisiting a retro chic garment. Last fall, I was after Bonnie's feminine take on the classic trench coat. And today, I came to find a Stepford wives' staple some say has been resurrected in part by Betty Draper: The apron.

Only these aren't your grandma's aprons. They actually resemble the front of a vintage dress, with a flattering, nipped-in cut with ties around the waist and neck. They're not only fashionable but functional - mine has a pocket which I'm sure I'll be stuffing with something. Anthropologie is known for their apron selection and I wasn't disappointed upon finding about 15 or so varying patterns/colors. Though I'm unsure I'll be donning my new sassy + sexy apron in the kitchen anytime soon, I plan on wearing it to an upcoming cooking event. With heels and a dress, naturally!

And for the record, I think men can rock aprons too. Is it weird that I have a recurring dream with an apron-clad Tom Colicchio braising baby lamb shanks for me? Okay, it's bizarre.

The stuff in here looks cool.  Women love it, and it seems to be expensive.

They seem to sell everything.  Jeans, tables, lamps, bathroom extras, kitchen fillers, whatever you want, they have it.

I like this place, because if you go in here with a sig other, they go into a trance, and I can sit in one of their $925 over priced chairs that I'm not really sure if I'm supposed to be sitting on or not, and text message for 39 minutes.  No one talking to me, just me, myself, and I. The great escape.

I'm a guy, and never bought a single thing in here, but this place does wonders for a relationship.  If they had as many Anthropologies in Lakeview as they did 7-11s, I would be a pig in slop.

Bring em here fellas, get the peace you are entitled to....

This is one of my favorit stores.  I always want to buy everything but can not afford it.  I just wish they would make the sale room a little larger I always feel like I'm gonna have to smack a bitch to get the cute pants for $30.  It gets mean in there and a lot of the ladies in the neighborhood seem extra mean since they lookas if they haven't eaten in a week.

I love this store. I came in hoping they would have some candles on sale and I scored the last large London Thread candle they had. So cute! I love smelling candles here, the volcano candles are my favorite and I never get sick of them. There are so many candles in this place you can walk around smelling and an hour goes by. I also just love the feel of this store.

In fall I bought a great coat here on sale for $99. I didn't think it'd be that warm during the harshest winter days but the blizzard has come and gone and I'm still toasty in this awesome coat. I get lots of compliments on it too because it's unique and cute - which is why I love almost everything in Anthropolgie. I also love that the saleswomen never bother me while I'm looking. Thanks!

I've dedicated about half of my wardrobe to Anthropologie.  The price is a reflection of the amazing quality of the clothes.  I always feel so comforable and "laid-back" dressed up when I wear something from this store!

This location is good.  But I do have to say, I've made returns here and it takes a while sometimes.  Just don't go into the store when you are in a hurry.

I gave the clothes 5 stars, but this location and customer service deserves a 4.

    I wish I didn't like expensive things.

    But I love Anthropolgie.

This is a good location - it's never been super busy when I've gone in. My latest mission was to purchase a smokin' New Years Eve dress, and after trying on a lot of dresses (I've really gotta love a dress to spend Anthropologie Money on it), I found a super sexy NYE dress. It was strappy, went to slightly above my knees and was tan, blue, pink and green watery dots.

Who says I can't get descriptive?

Anyway, what felt like a million dollars later I had my dress and I was ready to go out for NYE, feeling fancy. Thanks Anthropologie!

What is it about Anthropologie that keeps me coming back?

I came in for the clothes. They're interesting statement pieces reminiscent of vintage trends that are priced somewhere between your run-of-the-mill mall rat stores and upper end department stores.

Then I discovered the accessories - jewelry, bags, mittens, scarves, sunglasses - all fall somewhere between delicate and funky. There's always something that tempts me.

Where Anthro really has me, though, is their housewares. Let's start with the candles. They are a-MAY-zing. The pink jar candle is pretty much the only one I'll buy now. I drink my coffee from a cute monogrammed mug every morning sitting on the couch we got for 50% off because one of the legs had come off when it was shipped to the store.

The customer service is always top-notch, they take online returns in-store, and the products are usually good quality. Although, if someone ever figures out what the Anthro card actually does please let me know!

How have I not shopped here before???  HOW?  WHY?  WHEREFORE??? .....the HELL?  I can't believe I have not ever stepped foot into a single Anthropologie until 2010.  I also can't believe that nobody loved me enough to tell me that I should.  Maybe I need friends that love me more.  Or that shop at better places.

As someone who loves most things vintage but is not a fan of wearing anything that is used (it creeps me out), this store feels like it was made for me.  They have a  lot of really tailored, beautiful pieces of clothing that seem to be well made.  A lot of cotton which makes me super happy in the summer.  Dresses with those beautiful shapes from the late 1950s that look great on curvy women like me.  Tops with exquisite lace and/or beautiful crochet that could be Edwardian or from the 1970s.  I feel like this store is an homage to the best fashion from the past 100 years but in modern sizes.  I DIE.

I have two minor complaints.  One is that they are not inexpensive.  But the sale room is great and they are not ridiculously pricey, especially considering the quality.  The other complaint is the variance in sizes.  A size 12 by one brand is nothing like a size 12 from another.  But I think that this happens everywhere - it just hurts more when you love 90% of what you see and know that some of it just won't fit.

I think that this store might be my new addiction.  The new one on State Street is my introduction but I like this one better.

EDITED TO ADD:  All of the salespeople at this location were super helpful and really nice.  I must have tried on 30 items and only left with two but they consistently checked on me in the dressing room and brought me sizes and were just really great to deal with.

Super cute clothes...not super cute prices. I love most of the clothing at Anthropologie until I see the price tag. Then I just like them...my love dies. Much like balance in my bank account after an afternoon getting new clothes here.
Id also like to note that the staff is great. They are friendly, helpful and more importantly honest. If you ask for their opinion be prepared for the truth!

I just bought my new favorite shirt here... a white, boatnecked, burnout tee with a fitted, gray, grosgrain ribbon-embellished corset. Squeal! It's worth more than the sky-high price tag: I'm wearing it with big sunglasses, some cropped black capri pants and distressed gunmetal flats. I can see it with a skintight pencil skirt and stilletos. I wear it with jeans or with short, frou-frou, flouncy, summer skirt... anything or nothing. It is Beautiful!
Plus, I got to watch the staff put together the always impressive window display. It's literally performance art. I could pack a lunch and spend the day here browsing, reading and buying...
I might have to live in a cardboard box when done, but I'd look sensational!

P.S. Any of you know where I can get the black and white cityscape print We heart Vera dress in a size 4? Because the clearance section only has it in size 14 and um, 0. Somewhere, one of you can help me find it!

This place is extremely dangerous for me. First off, they have SUCH cute clothing. I love that their clothes are extremely feminine but also unique. I frankly can't tell the difference between Banana Republic and J.Crew because all of their clothing more or less look the same.

Anthropologie has quality stuff but there's a bit more edge to it. Not super edge like Urban but feminine edge, if that makes sense? Anyway, I think most who appreciate the style Anthropolgie has to offer would agree their clothes are well made and flattering. What I was particularly impressed with was their degree of customer service. They didn't try to push me into buying anything (ugh stupid United Colors of Benetton) nor did they ignore me (I hate you J.Crew) but they were sufficiently and amiably helpful.

I found a couple of items that were probably overpriced but ones I will definitely get my use out of. I love you Anthropologie and I should steer clear if I want any hopes of saving money.

I think the rude saleswoman mentioned in my last entry is no longer an employee, and she seems to have been replaced by far superior shop girls who are chock full of the friendly and the helpful.

I wish they sold more accessories in the store, particularly their shoes and purses. There's a bag I want from their catalog, but I don't like to buy purses unless I can see & touch the leather first. And I want some boots, but again-need to see them in person.

Anthropologie looks good on paper...the clothes are dreamy, the store is roomy, and there appear to be staff-a-plentiful; then why am I treated like something the cat dragged in on a bad day?

I was so looking forward to my trip to Anthropologie on a rainy winter Saturday and with my paycheck in tow, I had high hopes to blow half of it on some fresh designs. My expectations were quickly quashed!

The customer service at this location is B-A-D; to the staff, you're just another inconvenience. In protest, I will not be shopping at any Anthropologie locations ever again.

I'm tempted to name names, but I'll keep this review to the point.

    1. Apparently a job at Anthropologie entitles you to a nasty attitude.
    2. When shopping here, try to stay out of the staff's way.
    3. Your experience may inspire you to drop the apparel you want to buy in order to say "bye, bye" to the hostility.

On top of everything, I went to their website to find an outlet for my grief but their customer service line is only available M-F when I'm busy working. C'est la vie, I turned to Yelp!

I accompanied my friend M. to this store today. M. had ordered some items on-line and wanted to return them.

Long story short - M. found a sweater/jacket that she liked, but wanted it one size larger than we saw on the rack. Well, this turned into an extravaganza of customer service. First, the salesclerk checked in back for another one - no luck. Then, she offered to look on-line to see if it was available there - it wasn't. Then, she checked to see if the proper size was in other stores; she found 4 other stores in the country that had the item. Then, she started calling the stores to see if it was still there, and could they ship it. Finally, she found the item, and arranged to have it shipped to M.'s home.

This whole ordeal probably took 20 minutes. The clerk, whose name was Megan, just offered some of the best customer service I've seen. And by the way, while she was working with M., other clerks opened other registers to make sure that customers did not have to wait long in line.

I was just very, very impressed with the customer service. I can't comment on the store, as I am way too old and too poor to buy their stuff. But I would go in again, just because I believe that I would be given the highest customer service available.

Anthropologie is fantastically overpriced... but fantastic nonetheless.

Based on how much I LOVE their clothes (and oodles of other accessories) I would give them 5 stars. The stuff is down right comfy, cute, and seems to fit various shapes very well.

On the downside, prices are a major crap-factor and clothes shopping amongst a bunch of pretentious yuppies (Julius Meinl "flavor of the day" latte in hand) is not my idea of a fantastic shopping experience.

Anthropology (/ænpldi/, from Greek , anthrpos, "human"; -, -logia) is the study of humanity. Has origins in the natural sciences, and the humanities.

It may not have origins in the natural sciences or the humanities, but Anthropologie does have clothing for practically every different type of woman out there, and now they have kids clothing too.

Although there prices are high, if you can watch your favorite items with a close eye you might be able to catch them on sale from time to time.

There are so many clothing boutiques, but few pieces stand out. I always seem to find something original yet feminine here.

Like a lot of other reviewers, I love Anthropologie.  I love their products and variety.  What I don't like is their service - particularly at this location.

I walked around on a Friday afternoon with maybe seven other women in the store, carrying an arm-load of dresses.  Not a single person said "hello" much less asked if I needed to have a room started.  Never mind that I was actually looking for something specific, but more over, was in the mood to actually purchase a few spring items!  I stopped to look at a few t-shirts and pants, and was pushed out of the way by one of the associates who was helping another customer.

Now, I understand that if you're working with a customer, you need to attend to them.  Fine.  But is it so hard to say "Excuse me"?  Are you THAT desperate for a sale that you're willing to lose another?

When I made my way into the changing rooms, I stood around for a few minutes while the sales associates chatted with one another, then was finally offered a room.  After I tried everything on, I put the dresses back on the hangers and headed out.  Not a single person asked me how I did, or offered to help put away my go-backs.  I've worked in retail and always appreciated those customers who put their items back on the hangers.  That day, I wanted to dump everything in a pile in the middle of the sales floor.

Oh Anthropologie Southport, I'm gonna go back downtown where they're nicer.

I adore Anthropologie.  I would give them five stars if I could afford to actually buy more when I go shopping here.  But it is fun just wander around the store and soak in the inspiration.

This location is full of little nooks with pretty products artfully arranged to look like it all just happened.  It is almost comfy in there. There is a decent sized area set aside for sales and the sale prices almost make it worth it... yet the fresh designs on the floor will catch your eye over the sale section.  It is near the Southport El stop and there is more parking in this area than at the other local store on Rush so it is a wee bit more convenient.

I love that there is a variety of brands so that not everything looks the same yet it does seem to mesh well.  And I truly love the housewares sections... it is girly home decor accents at their finest.

This is a store to go to with the girls after brunch... definitely leave the man at home for this shopping trip.

As far as service goes, it is hit or miss.  One very quiet Saturday, the service was extraordinary (even pseudo-gift wrapped my purchase!) and the following weekend, I couldn't get anyone to help me.

I wouldn't say I'm new to Anthropologie. I would just say this is just definitely a store that you can't afford when you're surviving on a recent college grad's salary, so I've avoided it until recently. And I'm still torn on giving this store four or five stars just because their stuff is insanely expensive.

I was actually recently led back in here while looking for a dress for our rehearsal dinner (I saw a woman wearing it in a vintage-themed fashion shoot that was posted on one of my fav wedding blogs). The clothes here are gorgeous. Some of the pieces they have are simply stunning and you can tell that a lot of creativity and craftsmanship goes into them. But holy crap are they pricey. I was immeditaley drawn to a knit tank top with rosettes all along the neckline. After taking a peek at the price tage ($150) I wasn't as interested. JCrew wouldn't have even charged that much. And then I fell in love with a throw pillow in their housewares section, but that was also about $100 (yep, just for one!). Their sale room had a lot of good stuff, but it was mostly smalls and petites, so that was a bust.

However, I did find the dress, and while it was a bit more than I wanted to pay, it truly is a beautiful piece of clothing, so I didn't feel as guilty forking over the plastic.

The staff here is really nice as well. I liked the dressing rooms, where the sales associate writes your name on the door with a dry-erase marker (makes it nice when they run out to get you another size and they don't have to say, "Hey you, here's your size 6").

But I really just can't get over the prices! I'll definitely continue to shop here, but probably only for staple pieces that I'll wear for years, or special occasion outfits.

Wow! My favorite place to shop hands down.

    1. This location is so much larger than the State St. sister.
    2. The ladies are super nice.
    3. The sale section is arranged by color!!! It's like my personal walk-in closet.
    4. The fitting room area is HUGE!
    5. The housewares section is beautiful.

Things can get pricey, so head for the sales first. But sometimes you have to indulge. There's no greater joy than coming home to gorgeous clothes and pretty, girly things.

The scent when I walk in is intoxicating. I love this store's atmosphere. The  clothes and housewares are fantastic, tons of original, cute stuff. Yes, pricey like woah. But they have great sales going on almost all of the time. The cutsomer service at the Southport location sucks, I would rather go to the State Street one, but this one is closer. I'll never abandon Anthropologie. Skirts, dresses, gorgeous duvet covers (even if I can't afford them).

The only thing I would say against the store as a whole is that the furniture is way too expensive. $6,000 for a sofa? And you want me to pay an extra $350 in shipping? Oh, right!

Overpriced but I can't help but love it.  I dream of a world where there are no more Gaps and people dressed like clones of each other.  Living in a place like Chicago where there aren't that many great boutiques, I will settle for a franchise boutique like Anthro that gathers so many different designers under one roof.

Yes it is expensive, but if you are willing to put in the time, you can find plenty of good sales there for some amazing clothes and jewelry!

    My favorite store EVER.

Cloths are great Customer service is great.

I love the house stuff. So cute and a little better priced then the clothing.

I love this location because they carry shoes. I just moved to lakeview from Florida and my local store did not carry any shoes.

Why would you pay premium U.S. dollars with glorified presidents on the bills for products made in India, China and other exotic locations in Southeast Asia? That you know, whether or not you acknowledge it, only cost just a tiny fraction of the high two-figure and three-figure prices you see on the tags?

Well, if you're not planning a trip to any of those locations soon, then I suppose you will just have to suck it up. After all, $88 for a skirt "made in India" is much cheaper than an $888 round-trip ticket there, food and lodging not included. And think about it this way -- you're also paying for a spacious shopping environment not found in other boutiques on SoPo, you're financing the cosy and tasteful decor, and you're footing the bill for some scene to be seen shopping.

Frankly, I wasn't pleased when this outpost of a national chain began constructing just before Christmas last year. SoPo is a typical neighbourhood street that is mostly independent stores, give or take your ubiquitous Starbucks, Einstein Bros. and Coldstone Creamery. But, if we had to make room for a chain store, then Anthropologie is the least of all evils. The stuff there, you have to admit, is cool, and still maintains its lustre long after Urban Outfitters has rusted to kitsch.

Of course, the non-descript shopper will do well to head straight to the sale alcove, where it makes much more sense and cents to pay 30 to 50 percent less for "premium" clothing and home furnishing. Why not make a traipse through the store part of your neighbourhood stroll... spend the time browsing, uncover a good deal. Seek and you shall receive.

If you want to feel bad about the fact that you went to grad school for only a $10,000 salary increase and much more in student debt loans, don't come here.

    It will make you depressed.

Also, their clothes fit oddly.  Their extra smalls are very short, but still rather wide.  It makes me run back to the juniors section.  Of course, I could have also invented this complaint because I am depressed every time I come here.

    Craptastic customer service.
Decent selection, if not overpriced for certain things.
Did I mention the craptastic service?

I don't want someone to follow me around the store and try to sell me crap that I don't need and won't look good just for the sake of the sale.

But I do expect to be greeted or asked if I need help in the first *20 minutes* that I'm in a store.  Is that really asking too much?  IS IT???

Cute home furnishings, but I think I would rather shop online or go to State Street than deal with the oblivious sales staff.

Anthropologie is the most beautiful store ever, I try to avoid going because I always want to buy everything, but unfortunatly with very few items being priced under $100 this makes it quite costly to 'window shop' !! They have fabulous clothes with great details and a really cool housewares sectoin.

Lets be honest I usually head straight towards the sale room. I have always had great service here, they started a dressing room for me and got me other sizes and all my picks were from the clearance section. The clientel on the otherhand I can't speak so fondly of, a ltitler pretensious perhaps, but it makes for good people watching/listening.

Reviewing national chains is always a bit boring, but I'll review this one because I think it's better than the previous ratings give it credit for.

Yes, the service here is a bit slow and passive compared to other locations, but is that really a bad thing? Is being asked your first name in the fitting rooms, getting your purchases held while you shop for more, and being chatted up about how that is indeed a very cute dress not personable enough? I find the regular service at Anthropologie a bit too much, and could use even less than they offer here (I really do think I had smalltalked with every single employee before I finally left). If you need even more conversation, bring a friend!

When I went in after the holidays it seemed like the entire store was on sale. Lots and lots of pretty things, and a much larger non-clothing sales area than the downtown store. This store even carries some one-of-a-kind design items such as handmade notebooks (by ex libris anonymous, if I'm not mistaken).

So, keeping in mind that Anthropologie is a fabulous, ridiculous store that buys clothing items in Asia for 20 cents and sells them in America for 200 Dollars, this particular location is still no worse than any others.

This is a beautiful space! It is huge, always organized, and the staff is helpful, while still capable of giving the shopper space.

But it is so, so overpriced! WTF?? Seriously, do they really need to charge that much?? We are in a recession, people!!

I wish I had the money to shop here regularly (echoing the sentiments of Kim B.)  The clothes, for the most part, are darling - a little hippie and very adorable.  They have an entire sale "room", which is about the side of a larger bathroom.  Weed through the floors to see if there's something that has been overlooked for a while.

The service seems to be a little bit snooty - which is fine with me - if I want help I will ask for it, and since I don't come in dressed in Anthropologie threads, I wouldn't expect they would think I need assistance.

The store is gigantic - a huge "home" section with cute sheets, pillows, home accessories, furnishings, basically anything you could want that you don't realy need.

Clothes, lingerie, home goods, presents to fit most any girl's desires - the selection is there.  But even their sale sections are priced a bit out of reach for me.  I'm jealous if you can furnish yourself and home here!

This review is long overdue...I love this place!  Anthropologie is crack-cocaine for me; at times I think that I should just set-up a direct deposit.  Of the two locations, I prefer Southport over State/Division; the employees are much friendlier and seemingly more efficient at the cash wrap since it doesn't seem to take nearly as long to purchase.

As others have mentioned, some of the clothes can be on the pricey side, but I don't know that it is really all that different from shops that are similar...plus, I can usually get the cost per wear to $5 (makes it easier to justify).  I actually just purchased two very fun dresses for the spring/summer that I can't wait to wear...hopefully the weather will start cooperating!
