Update 02/25/08:

I had to increase my rating of this Anthropologie to 4 stars after my experience today.

Have you ever just felt the need to purchase something? Anything? Well, that's how I felt today. I just needed to shop.

Anthro did not let me down. I spent a few hours browsing through the sale room and I found a couple of awesome pieces to add to my wardrobe.

"Isn't Anthro expensive?" you ask. Well, it's a whole lot cheaper than spending two hours with a therapist. Retail therapy is truly what it's all about. Not only do you feel better after shopping, you also have new clothes to wear.

(Side note: Though I'm still not a fan of the store layout, I can't keep comparing everything in Boulder with the Bay Area. I'm determined to love the Boulder Anthro and I guess I'll just have to keep shopping there until I do.)

Original Post 02/17/08:

I typically really like Anthropologie. Really, I do. The one in Berkeley on 4th street: amazing. The one in SF on Market: also amazing. The one in San Jose on Santana Row: (you guessed it) amazing. The one in Boulder on 29th street? Mmm. Not so much.

I tend to judge retail stores based on layout and sale selection.

The layout of this Anthro throws me off. There's not really a good way to do a general scope of the store before deciding which racks to paw through. There is rack after rack after rack of clothing. Each rack has four or five tops and several bottoms and I really just don't have the energy to figure out which racks I should be looking at.

The sale room is ok, but the selection is mediocre. In Boulder, the tops don't seem to get much lower than $39.95 and the bottoms not much lower than $59.95.

Those two major gripes aside: the clothes are still super cute. I don't know how the buyers for Anthropologie do it. I have yet to see anything unwearable. I especially love how most pieces can be dressed up for work or down for the weekend. :)

(-2) stars for: poor layout (it's like a maze...), no deep discounts in the sale room

I love Anthropologie! I always seem to forget how pricey it is though! =( The layout is kind-of long and skinny so I have to agree with Cyn on the poor scope-ability of this particular store.  I tend to get turned around on the west side of the store, near the sale room; maybe I just haven't been there enough yet. It's hard to keep visiting a store you can afford however.

So far my only purchase has been from the baby section: They have the cutest stuffed animals!
