We had out of town guests and we wanted to impress them, so we took them to Anthony's at Point Defiance.  What can I say, good food, good service and a GREAT VIEW.

It was only in the 60's outside, but they had their  air-conditioned on and we  were freezing.  Finally we mentioned it to our waitress and she turned the temperature up.  That's taking care of your customers!

Any complaints?  Yeah, just one.  I don't know about the acoustics there, but every time we eat there, it is very noisy.   Our guest were elderly and I being an aging baby boomer who has shot too many guns and listen to too much rock and roll had difficulty hearing each other.

All in all, it was a great experience.

Anthony's has a special place in my life, since my wife and I had our wedding reception at one of the locations (the Gig Harbor one).  I like it.  On our recent visit to the Point Defiance location, we sat at the counter overlooking the kitchen.  It changed the way we viewed the kitchen.  These guys work like dogs.  I used to work in a restaurant and I was really, really impressed with the sous chefs here.  They work hard.  And it shows.

Our food that night was outstanding.  Since the endless crab deal is gone (sadly), my wife had a special crab/steamers/mussels combo that looked outstanding.  I had my old standby, the fish and chips, and it was very good, but I regret having it.  I need to start being more adventurous with Anthony's choices.

W-O-W!!!! This experience was 43543 times better than a few years ago. Of course on a Sunday, it was insanely busy. The husband and I sat in the open seating area by where the cooks are. We were so amazed on how chaotic (in a good way) the chef's cooking and working together.

Now for the food, the husband had cod fish and chips and I got the surf n' turf meal. My appetizer was a shrimp cocktail, which was yummy. Then the salads came out, but it was kinda meh. It consisted of lettuce, lettuce, and more lettuce. You would have thought there were more vegetables in a salad. The meals came out. The mussels, clams, and crab were amazing. The husband kept stealing my mussels and clams, which is ok. We both finished our plates and waited for the check to come. After we paid for our meals, the chefs were giving each other high fives. Of course I want to join in on this excitement. So the husband and I got high fives from the chefs..... pretty entertaining I must say.

Will I go back??? YES!!! No if, and, buts about it.

I wanted to like the place. The view is nice.  I liked watching the ferries and other boats come near the restaurant.
It is very busy.  People running all over the place.  There were more employees than customers.  The bar area is nothing but a bunch of barstools facing the chefs and waitstaff.  I felt like I was watching a basketball game.  Not very comfortable or relaxing.  It was weird watching the waitstaff sitting in front of us taking a break and eating their dinner. Their were shifts of people doing this. I felt like I was intruding on their break...And waitstaff stood around talking.  Since I was facing them I did all I could do to not stare. Annoying. I didn't go there to sit in the employee lounge!
We ordered calamari and a couple of microbrews. I had my sodium limit for the entire week with that dish. It was not worth 9.99.  Very disappointing. I don't understand why you would need to over season the calamari and then serve an aioli sauce with it. The seasoning totally drowns out any other taste.  In fact it was so bad I actually drank the whole 23 ounce beer hoping to drown out the bad sodium taste and that didn't even work.
I might return for the view and a drink when the weather is nice and I can sit outside. I won't sit inside again and I don't think I will order food.

Noisy environment, great view of the cascades and right on the water. The appetizer crab, shrimp and artichoke dip is really good. I ordered the silver salmon... it was good but not great.  Service was mediocre, and took a while for the food to come and get drink refills.  Good but not great overall.

I had some wonderful small sweet oysters on the half shell.  The waitress talked me into "shelling" out for the most expensive ones on the menu but they were worth it. She also suggested a crispy green salad with a creamy lemon-toasted sesame dressing that complimented the oysters and was the perfect size for a good lunch. Anthony's staff always knows their stuff!

I went here again, not by choice, and I have to wonder what people see in this place other than the great view. The view is great, yet everything else is bad.

The table we were seated at meant half our group wouldn't get a view. Really, sucks those people since they get to eat shitty food while watching inexperienced wait staff run around instead of the view

My silverware and seat were filthy.

The fish taco was dry. It tasted like a week old tortilla with sawdust cabbage and bland tomatoes. It was crowned with the smallest piece of fish imaginable.

The seating is so tight, I felt like the waitstaff was going to smack me in the head with all of their plates and trays when they went each way.

Best clam chowder & all u can eat crab specials. The halibut is the best I ever had! View is beautiful! Not over priced, great for families! Been to the one in Seattle and it is way over priced. This has wonferful employees, great food, and great pricing. I been here now 4 times, and the clam chowder is so good, the crab is great, salmon and halibut. Didn't care for the oysters though.
Call for being placed on the list when you head in. Or sit at the bar where you can see mount Rainer. Great place!

    Definitly worth 5 stars :)
Anthony's is probably what I'm gonna miss most about Washington state. Their cod Fish and Chips is AWESOME! (Best on Monday when it's all you can eat!) I get it every time and I never am dissappointed. Service is always good and fairly quick. Even the colesaw they serve on the side is delicious! Mmm, I'm craving it now.

My husband gets the Smoked Salmon Fettuchini every time, he LOVES it. I've tested it myself and I thought it was amazing, also. But the fish and chips are it for me!

The location is great, too. Right on the water. Last time we went for early dinner and saw a seal swimming around in the water- Dinner and a show! :P

Decent seafood at a fair price.  The oysters were the highlight of our meal and the selection reflects on the good taste of Anthony's buyers.  We tried an oyster sampler; our favorite were the bearing point oysters, briny and delicious.

The pan seared trout with marcona almonds melted in my mouth, although that might have been due to the butter it was pan-fried in more than anything else.  Terriyaki rice on the side added a sweet balance to the savory fish.

We also tried the garlic prawn blue plate special.  This dish was light on garlic and big on butter.  It works, if that's your thing.  We found that it masked the taste of the shrimp.

Service was friendly and very fast, almost too fast to enjoy a liesurely evening on the water but nice if you're famished after a long day of exploring.

I used to like Anthony's but each time I've gone I've liked it less and less. I probably won't be going back after the last time we dined there.
Really long list of things that went wrong the last time, but all in all, the service was TERRIBLE, half of our food was inedible, and the management's customer service skills were horrible.
The only reason why I gave it  2 stars is because my husband and father-in-law said the mahi mahi tacos were ok.

I love spending the day at point defiance park, and then going to Anthony's after hanging out in the area.

I would suggest reservations during the weekends, even for lunch, as it gets busy.
We've gone in a few times without an reservation, and the greeter is REALLY RUDE, she tells us EVERY time that it's a 20-30 minute wait, and my husband looks around and sees that there is NOBODY else waiting in the lobby, and just has a seat and looks at her like REALLY???
Within 3-5 minutes we are usually seated.
Once we get past her, the evening usually goes much better.
I've never been disappointed with the food, the price is ok, service can be slow on weekends, so kids can get bored, but I don't mind the view, and just hanging out.

I love the view and the relaxed environment. It's not a quiet romantic restaurant, and there are usually lots of kids, although I really wouldn't recommend bringing younger kids there.

People who complain about the noise, and kids need to evaluate the area, they are the only restaurant in general walking distance in the biggest park in Tacoma, that even has a Zoo, there are going to be lots of families, so if people are looking for that romantic experience they should take the time to go down the water front and find the 21 and over only restaurants, because most of the restaurants in that area are kid friendly.

Having the parents in town is always fun, especially when I can order items on a menu that normally are out of my price range.  Last night, Mama and I decided we would each get a cedar plank delight - one of us salmon, the other halibut, and share so we could enjoy both.  I don't even really know what to say.  Both pieces of fish were literally perfect.  I've never seen a piece of salmon turn out so flawlessly uniform in pink hue, and the halibut literally melted away in my mouth like it was made entirely of warm butter.  The flavor was perfect, the texture and consistency was perfect, and it makes me wish i could drop 60 bucks on two pieces of fish every time I go out to eat.

We also tried a couple of their fresh berry drinks which were both delightful, and honestly, the whole berries they dropped in them were better than most I find at farmer's markets.  I already loved this place, but now it gets a five star status that it probably always deserved.

We spent a day at the zoo, and then ate here while waiting for the Zoo lights to start later in the evening and had a great time. It was a bit early for dinner so it wasn't too busy. We got a table with a fantastic view which was really hard to beat. We enjoyed an appetizer and two entrees and the prices were surprisingly reasonable considering the location. The clam chowder was as good as people say, and the fish and chips was delicious too. Maybe it's not the best clam chowder I've ever had, or the best fish and chips I've ever had but both were very tasty and it was great to be able to enjoy them in such a beautiful spot. I'd definitely go again when visiting Pt. Defiance zoo.

You know how some people say that desserts are their weakness? Screw that. Desserts are necessary to my survival, if I said they were my weakness then I'd have to add air, all food, and boutique shopping to that list too.

After a tasty no fuss dinner at Katy Downs I had a hankering for a good dessert but wasn't being grabbed by their cheesecake offerings so I turned to Yelp Mobile, typed in "Cobbler" cause that's what I wanted, and "Tacoma" cause that's where I was - and whaddya know! Maria C recommends the blackberry Cobbler at Anthony's just down the street - Wheeeee!

It was prime dinner hour but we were given a seat right away even though I said we were only there for coffee and dessert. Also, the server didn't act like we were a pain in her arse for not ordering a full meal and gave us excellent service.

Cut to the dessert menu - it's rhubarb season!

Seriously, now what do I do? Maria C says that the blackberry cobbler is to die for, but the rhubarb is seasonal and my favorite, yet I have no Yelp data to back up my order. Panicked! I order them both 

As Lydia P would say "Holy Mother of Yum!" These were some of the best cobblers I've had in, well, forever. Ordering two was the smartest thing ever.

This is a nice "show restaurant" for visitors.  It's not going to be offensive.  The food is solid and the service is friendly and clean.  Everything about this place is clean, in fact.  Prices aren't as high as they could charge, considering the location.  Anthony's avoids being a rip-off waterfront joint.

Salmon in season.  Local brews.  Need anything else?  Seriously?

The salmon fish & chips were so good I completely forgot about the malt vinegar.  I had a taste of the Copper River salmon.  That is reason enough to eat here, if not to move to Washington.

They suffer from stupid bar regulations, but the view from the bar seating is just as good as anywhere else.

This place is all about location. Where else can you go have a waterfront dinner with this view and pay these prices for food that is pretty good? They could easily convert this location into a world class five star stuffy restaurant but they keep the prices low for the masses.
It's a great place for the poor college student to impress a date.
Being the cheap ass that I was during college, I usually ordered the fish tacos and a carafe of wine. Now that I am bit more established, the last time I went I ordered some halibut that was just as good. (Though I was craving those fish tacos).
I'm also a major oyster lover, and they have a decent selection of oysters on the half shell to try. It's not an Elliot's Oyster House when it comes to the oysters but still very very solid.
From what I remember, they do not take reservations but they do take call-aheads.

The one star is for the servers positive attitude and the politeness of the manager. Everything else pretty much sucked.

First up, the glasses of water served had a not-so-lovely taste of bleach, probably used to rinse off the glasses, but not rinsed off of the glasses. I ordered a cup of their "award winning chowder" and some fish and chips. A fairly simple order, for what is supposedly a renowned seafood restaurant. I order a cup of coffee as well, but end up taking only a single sip. It tasted like something that had been sitting. And sitting.

I don't know which award the chowder has won, but the bowl I got was nothing more than thick potato soup. I didn't see or taste a single clam in there and even the potato-bits were slightly crunchy in the middle.

Finally my fish and chips arrive. The fries are fine, but as soon as I cut into the truecod, grease seeps from it like there is no tomorrow. I tell myself that perhaps the fish is merely juicy and try it anyway. It tastes like old, burnt oil and nothing else. The texture of the fish is instant mush, as soon as it enters my mouth and apart from the oil, it has absolutely no taste at all. In an effort to save it, I add lots of salt, lemonjuice and malt vinegar (that I had to get up and get myself). But the oil-taste persist and after a total of three small bites, I start feeling slightly nauseus.

I sent my food back and declined dessert. Gone was my appetite and my urge to ever come back to Anthony's in Tacoma. For the record, I have had great chowder at the restaurant with the same name in Ballard, Seattle.

Good food at a good price.  Came here with some friends after a day of exploring Point Defiance.  The restaurant has a great view of the water.  After eating at so many great places in downtown Seattle the day before, perhaps my impressions were a bit skewed.  The food here was definitely good but not super great.  We had the fish and chips (cod), and the shrimp and crab macaroni and cheese.  The fish was nice and tender and the batter not too heavy.  I liked the slaw they had on the side and I'm not a huge fan of slaw.  The mac and cheese was good as well, nice amount of shrimp and crab mixed in the the cheesy goodness.  Decent prices as well, a nice place to bring a family after a day at the park.

We took our wedding party to Anthonys after we got married.  It's very very good.  My plank salmon was superb and the vegetable treatment made a fan of one who isn't into veggies.  Those who had fish and chips expressed how good that was too.  Most of us finished the meal off with an excellent creme' brulee'.

Took one star off because the clam chowder was just passable and one of the shrimp dishes was as well.  We will be back though.

Had 3 Hawaiian cobbs .today and this salad is not as good as it used to be. Obviously they are trying to make a larger profit on food and it was obvious. Used to be their best salad. Used to be some lettuce and a lot of different ingredients. Now they serve a lot of lettuce, much more than needed by double, and very small quanities of ingredients. None of us enjoyed this salad as before. Hope the quality of this salad comes back

My wife and I went to Anthony's At Point Defiance to try out the Lobster special they were running this month.  We both got the Australian lobster tail with steak.  We had read several reviews on here that weren't the greatest so we weren't quite sure what to expect.  It turned out better than we had hoped.

We both thought the lobster tail was a decent size and was cooked well.  My wife, who is usually extremely picky about steak, said she was most surprised at how good the steak was.

The service was fast and friendly as well.  We will definitely go back when we can sneak away from the kids for a night.

The view:  gorgeous!  Service:  friendly and attentive.

My food was pretty good.  The white clam chowder was almost perfect--creamy, chunky.  The sourdough bread was soft and nice to dip in the soup.  The only thing that would have made the soup better is if it was in a sourdough bread bowl.

My Ahi was good and the rice that came with it had some sort of Cajun spices that were excellent.  My portion was smaller than I would have liked though.

The mousse dessert was also smaller than  prefer, but rich all the same.  Get the chocolate cake if you like large portions it was downright decadent!

Pricing:  Typical for a seafood restaurant right on the water--too expensive to go often, but good for a special treat.

Ate here before a concert @ the Tacome Dome one year and absolutely LOVED IT! Crab cakes are REAL crab cakes, with LOTS of REAL crab meat! Food in general is awesome. If you're lucky enough, try get a table with a view of Puget Sound...awesome! Will def go back there one day!!!!!
