Astoria, Queens, NY
I think this place is New England at its finest.
Anthony's is comfy, chilled out, homey and most importantly, its seafood is amazing. My girlfriend and her family stopped on in for a lazy weekend lunch. Everything we got and that I tried, from the stuffies, to the lobster roll (which my gf, a native New Englander claimed is one of the best she's ever tasted!) to the Rhody chowder; everything was mouth watering. The staff here definitely goes out of their way for you and really makes you feel at home. I'll be sure to come back again next time I'm in the area! -
Review from Mitch K.
I'm embarrassed to say this...my parents live all of 1/4 mile from this restaurant right off the same road and the last time I was here was like five years ago.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!?!?!?!
I visit my parents 5-10x a year and I never think to go to Anthony's. Well today I decided to say hi to my dad and finally see what all the fuss is about. I had the kung pao calamari (delicious doesn't even begin to explain this dish, beautiful fried calamari with a sweet sauce, peanuts, and these red mild peppers, just heaven), the scallop dinner (huge scallops with some delicious fries), and the portuguese fish chowder (fish, chourico, etc. with a delicious kick to it). My wife had a couple of stuffies and said they were the best she's ever had.
Do yourself a favor and check it out. My mouth is salivating eight hours later thinking about the calamari and the chowder.... -

Wow! Wow! That is just the beginning of the review. This place is simply amazing. I ordered a 1 3/4 lb Lobster with Fries and Cole Slaw and it cost me $18.95. And add to it that it was the best Lobster I ever ate. Simply the best seafood I have ever eaten and I visit seafood restaurants often.
You owe it to yourself to go there and try their food. I have also tried the New England Clam, Crab Cakes and Clam Cakes and all were good.
What the place lacks in decor it makes up in the food. Amazing place!!! -

When I was a kid, Anthony's was a seafood market on one of the wharves off Thames Street. Now it's a market and restaurant in Middletown. The seafood is very fresh. We had stuffies, clear chowder, Portuguese chowder, calamari, mussels, steamers, lobster, and scallops romano. Outstanding!

Service is stand in line to order...the restaurant also serves as a fresh sea food market, so not too shocked to stand in line. Also allows you to check out their seafood stock. The food was excellent, very well worth any wait! The Portuguese Chowder (plus an extra $2.00 for 4 crab cakes) and Kung Pao Calimari are an excellent combination and the meal with a drink was under 12.00 bucks, very much worth every penny!

Thank you Yelp.
The reviews are spot on, the Portuguese Fish Chowder is a MUST TRY. It's not your typical chowder.. packed with seafood (fish, large scallops, clams, shrimp) and potatoes.. it's also got that Portugese spice to it. Skip the cup, get the bowl!
The Fisherman's Platter is probably your next best bet. At $19.99 you get fried cod (or flounder), fried shrimps, whole belly clams, fried scallops, fried calamari and fries. Huge platter and let me stress how fresh the seafood was! (It
s connected to its own local fish market)
The Lobster roll was spensy @ $18 but the quality is there. Chunks of lobster, large toasted new england roll with a large leaf of lettuce. It's comparable to the Red Hook Lobster Pound lobster roll in Brooklyn, NY. Great to try if you're in the mood for it but I place it 3rd on the menu for value. -

Brooklyn, NY
Portuguese chowder was great. Only complaint was not knowing procedure, we sat down waiting for service. Waitress came into room a couple of times and didn't bother to tell us that we had to order at counter first. If we had, we would have been given a number on stand to show that we were that order number. The fact that we had no number, she should have known to instruct us on procedures. Food was definitely worth coming back for. Only a couple of miles from Newport and with a parking lot. Newport doesn't have a lot to offer as far as food except for a couple of places and parking is a nightmare. A quick run to Middletown and you get great food at a cheap price. Don't look for atmosphere and you'd be very happy that you came.

We drove down to Rhode Island, to look at the views, and of course to eat some delicious food. Victor had been to this place before and said it was really good, so of course I was down to try it. We were really hungry, so we got tons of food :)
Clam Cakes (Rhode Island local food) - interesting. Not exactly my favorite.
Rhode Island Clam Chowder and Portuguese Fish Chowder - OMG Portuguese Chowder was SUPER good... a little spicy, but so worth the burn
My first real lobster roll - soooooo goood
Whole Belly Fried Clams - yumyumyum!!
I would go back to this place if I was in the area again.. too bad there's nothing like it here on the West Coast. -
Review from Anne W.
Amongst all the heavy hitters (aka expensive restaurants) near Newport, RI... I was lucky to find this place. I wanted to treat my parents to some seafood.. but we didn't really care for the frills of a fancy restaurant.
It was a looooong drive from Boston.. imagine tons of small roads you have to take to get here.. but it was worthwhile when we got there. Tons of parking.. no wait when we got there. You stand in line and simply order. We got the steamers which were delicious! (And don't let anybody tell you that all steamers are alike.. they are not!! They were big and delicious here) We also got the two lobster special which was very delicious as well although it didn't seem hot.. just warm. They cut it for you so make it easy for you to get the meat out.. and the shells for the lobster were pretty soft. Softer than I remember for Maine lobsters... perhaps they are RI lobsters? New England clam chowder was good too although they let me try the RI clam chowder.. different twist.. not sure if I like it too much but they let me try it for free. Bascially it's a broth instead of a creamy base.
Quick.. and to the point.. would definitely recommend it again! -

Anthony's is a great place for a real seafood meal. It has a walkin counter where you place your order. You then sit down and wait for the meal to be delivered. I was there around 2pm and it was not busy but there were a good amount of people considering the time.
The lobster roll was very good and the fries were cooked to a crisp. The facility was very clean.
Anthony's provides hope to a world that is filled with snotty, overpriced, and touristy seafood restaurants in the Newport area. -
Review from Andrea W.
Hayward, CA
This place is heaven on earth! We found it by happy accident on our recent visit to the East Coast, after a miserable and failed daytrip to Newport. We didn't know that there would be a big boat show and that parking would be impossible to find. Well, screw those over-priced Newport joints!
The raw clams and oysters were amazing, and so inexpensive! Around San Francisco, we're used to paying close to $2 apiece (if not more) at most quality restaurants. The little gems at Anthony's rival the best of them. A dozen little neck clams can be had for only $8! Our group slurped up 4 dozen clams, and a dozen of raw oysters to boot. They were plump, fresh, sweet, and very clean and completely free of any gritty stuff. We couldn't get enough.
The day's special: two lobsters for $22 with corn on the cob - we couldn't believe our eyes. We also ordered the Portuguese fish chowder, the lobster roll, fried clams...everything was delicious. We were absolutely giddy from the meal, and still continue to talk about it.
If only I didn't live 3,000 miles away. ::weeping:: -
Review from Shasta K.
Do you like delicious, value-priced and unpretentious seafood? Then this is the place for you!
Driving past it, you wouldn't think Anthony's is anything special - luckily, the magic happens inside. When you walk in, you see a large display counter full of every imaginable seafood creature. Go to the cash, pick you feast for the evening and 10 mins later - hot and fresh delivered to your table!
On my first visit, i had the fried belly clams and fried scallops...delicious.
On my second visit, I had the lobster roll combo...Anthony's has the best lobster roll possibly in New England...large claim I know but it is that good. Very little mayo, lots of delicious, juicy and fresh lobster meat nicely put together...mmm...I'm getting hungry thinking about it.
Anthony's was a definite highlight of my time in Newport and wish it was 10 hours closer to me...make sure you stop by the cash on the way out and throw a fiver into the tip charge for the excellent service you're surely to receive!
I'd like to thank all the yelpers for their reviews that brought me to Anthony's! -

Delicious, reasonably priced, and friendly! What more do you want?
If I'm ever able to visit again or be in the area, I am going directly to Anthony's! -

The seafood isn't really dressed up or made fancy. You basically get what you order, no frills. But what it lacks in presentation, they make up in taste. I can say that you can go down that menu and find something you'll like and not regret ordering it.
The lobster roll seems to be my fall-back favorite, but the fish taco is a close second. Add some chowder to your meal and you'll be good to go.
I like the fact that it's a little bit out of the way, it doesn't have a stuffy vibe like some of the other restaurants in Newport, which isn't a bad thing. Sometimes you just want stuff your face and loosen up the belt.
Every time I'm on vacation here, I make it my business to get something from here at least once and more often if I'm up to it, which I usually am. -

We wanted our last lunch in Newport to be a casual "clam shack"/cheap eats/water view experience. Asking around, no one had any real suggestions and when I saw Flo's Clam Shack on our way to the beach I was told that the food wasn't that great. Our surfing instructor said that where the locals go is Anthony's Seafood restaurant, half seafood store, half restaurant. So glad we went.
Ambience is.. well, a fish store when you first walk in. Walk to the right, order your food, and sit down at one of the plastic booths with your plastic utensils. Wait for your food to be called or brought to you. NOT FANCY at all, but we weren't looking for that.
Stuffies: basically, baked stuffed clams on steroids. Instead of traditional bread crumbs, they actually break off small pieces of bread by hand, mix with lots of chopped clams and some seasonings, then pile it HIGH back into the shell. It really does stuff you, and is simple, basic fare.
Fish taco: this isn't your average taco! This is a battered and fried filet (sole?) that is put into a burrito-sized tortilla along with some white cheese, and black bean salsa, then folded over and served with sour cream, guac and fries. it's huge (tacos are small). Fish was fresh.
Crab cakes: even though the crab was shredded (i like just lump meat that falls apart when you just look at it!), these were delicious! Lots of spices (not hot) and shredded crab, not too much bread. Would definitely recommend them.
Lobster roll: nice large, fresh chunks of lobster claw & tail meat mixed with a little mayo on buttered & grilled white bread. Delicious!!
Swordfish burger: super moist and tasty swordfish thick fllet on a hamburger bun with cheese and pesto sauce - very good! Recommended!
Oysters and clams: i don't eat these, but my other 3 dining companions were oohing and ahhing over how fresh and tasty these were, and we live near fresh seafood at home, so that must mean something!
We heard you can also get this to go and find a place to picnic and eat it if it's a nice day out (they also have 2 tables outside). We recommend!! -
Review from Kelli P.
This was my first time eating here and I was fairly satisfied!
It is apparently very popular since parking was horrendous! They do offer plenty of parking, but the place fills up fast and no wonder because what they have to offer is worth parking 3 parking lots down!
It is the kind of place where you walk in, stand in line, order what you want from a counter and then find a seat and wait for it to be brought to you. Usually I am not a fan of these types of places because frankly, I like to be served, but this was not bad at all.
I was here with a rather large group, but the line still moved pretty fast. We sat outside so we could have more room and that was really nice. They have nice picnic tables set up that are clean and spacious!
The Kung-Pai Calamari was the best calamari I have had since moving to Newport. It was sweet, but had just enough spice to satisfy my spice-craved palate.
I then had the whole belly fried clams and they were pretty good, but I have had better. The prices are all at market prices and fair enough I suppose. I always enjoy places that top their fantastic-ness off with great prices, but maybe this place will do that eventually.
If you enjoy a good seafood meal, or plan on making some sort of seafood dish at home (they do sell salmon fillets and all sorts of other fish and shell fish to take home and cook yourself) then you should check this place out. It's definitely not a let down. -

Stopped by for an informal dinner Saturday night. Got two lobster rolls ($18 each - yeesh) and clam chowder....
...umm yeah, got two more for lunch Sunday. -

Terrific place for seafood. Apparently, a lot of locals go there. Prices were reasonable. We stuck to the most popular menu items mentioned in the reviews here: lobster roll, Portugese fish chowder, mussels w/ red sauce and crab cakes. All the dishes were delicious. When you get there, you place your order and pay at the cashier before being seated. The wait staff then brings you the food.
My only complaint is the decor. It looks dated and is in desparate need of a renovation. -

WOW.....
We purposely ordered about ..6 items of this menu to get he full experience. This plaece (half market-half no-frills restaurant) has some AMAZING food.
The seafood is so fresh... all you taste is sweet and brine... delicious.
We ordered the:
Portuguese Fish Chowder
This is the most amazing chowder I have EVER had.. It beats them all.. GET A HUGE bowl.. order two do whatever just make sure you order this. This dish alone is worth the 10 hour trip.
Kung Pao Calamari
This was a great spin on the calamari were are all used to. The spicy/sweet flavor was perfect. The squid was cooked to perfection (NO rubber here). My only suggestion - less breadding on this dish.
Stuffed Quahog
This is like a total RI/ New England thing, but... we just couldnt get into it. It tasted like... bland, midly spiced bread (pass on this one unless you want to say you tried a "stuffie")
Fisherman's Platter
We ordered this fried amalgamation just so we would have tried almost everything on the menu.
Whole Bellied Clams - Not for everyone, but if you like clam... you will like this
Shrimp - cooked perfectly.. sweet and delicious
Scallops - bay scallops.. so they were small and sweet
Cod - SO delish.. Buttery .. tender... amazing
Fish Taco
Great! they just need to NOT use 2 different kinds of tortilla and use something other than American Cheese. -

Me: "hey guys that place is packing um in, let's check it out"
Them" "i got a spot further up the road"
me: "ok"
turned out the spot up the road (Flo's) had the worst parking lot known to sight/tourists. As I waited, a lady in a minivan yells out "check out anthonys, I like it much better" So i turn around and low and behold anthonys turns out to be the same spot i sighted.
Anthonys is a great seafood casual spot. Its no frills, as you order at the counter and then it's brought out to your table. We waited for a minute before a nice picnic bench outside cleared. It was a beautiful day and it got even better once my ginormous fried clams were served. I opted for the whole belly clams and there was nothing to regret. french fries were crispy and the tartAHHH sauce money. The gf had the fish and chips and they were awesome. My friend ordered clam cakes and these things were freaks of nature. They were fried balls of batter heaven with clams tucked in the middle. I think what i liked most about this place was it was off the newport beaten path and that adds instant points when im vacationing. -

Found Anthony's thanks to my fellow yelpers! I was looking for a place to take some out of town guests in Newport that wasn't Flo's since flo's is overpriced, over crowded, and underwhelming.
Anthony's was an unassuming little crab shack. We got a stuffie, NE clam chowder, clam cakes, and fish and chips. The stuffie was weird. Very gooey and not very clammy. The chowder was creamy and rich but very bland. I had to add oyster crackers just to give it some flavor. Not my cup of tea . . . well, actually, not my cup of chowder (har har). The clam cakes were a bit greasy and again, not too clammy. However, the fish and chips were super delicious! The fish was nice and flakey and flavorful and the chips were well cooked. Totally beat the pants off of Flo's fish and chips.
If I were back in town and wanted some no fuss food, I'd come back =) next time, I'll have to try the lobsterListed in: I heart seafood!

My boyfriend and I recently took a trip to Newport and wanted authentic food that was not in a tourist trap. We found Anthony's on Yelp and took an adventure away from the main part of Newport and man was it worth it!
It's a super casual place, order at the counter and take a seat in a booth, but it's clean and comfortable. We had the fish and chips and chowder and they were amazing. Super fresh and delicious. The batter on the fish was fluffy and crispy.
As we were leaving we stopped by the fish counter where you can buy fresh fish or chowders to take home and sampled the Portuguese Chowder. OUT OF THIS WORLD. They also ship pretty much everything they offer at the counter as well as soups. -

Great food and price. Casual semi-self-serve atmosphere. Enjoyed the stuffed sole, portuguese chowder and a bottle of wine.

Food is GREAT. Good food for the price, big portions. The reason I did not rate a 5 is due to the lacking of ambience. You order as you walk in- not when you sit down at the table. I guess you save in tip this way :). I totally will come back when visiting Newport. Diner style...

My husband spent 10 weeks in training at Naval Station Newport and EVERY time I came to visit, we went to Anthony's. The last weekend I was up there, we went two nights in a row.
I am a seafood fanatic, someone who despite limiting animal protein intake on a regular basis, would eat from the sea at every meal if I had a source as fresh as Anthony's.
No frills, very cozy. Friendly high school wait staff. The guys behind the seafood counter are quite knowledgeable!
This place is the equivalent of the local, independently owned Red Lobster.
Do eat:
Oysters (unreal)
Stuffies (best ever)
Whole lobsters (the smaller ones were more tender)
The Rhode Island Clam Chowder (broth not cream based)
The fish sandwich+add cheese
Fried shrimp
Homestyle potatoes
Skip:
Corn (mushy)
Fish taco (bland)
We plan to vacation in Rhode Island next summer. Goodness knows we'll be eating from Anthony's often. So amazing! -
Review from Lyndal K.
Cedar Grove, NJ
Oh my godddd, I'm in seafood heaven/ food coma. Just came back from Anthony's and had to yelp about what an awesome gem this place is. First of all, Anthony's is really ideal for folks who don't want to wait in outrageously long lines and who don't want to dine exclusively amongst the beachgoing and/or touristy crowd. It's located about 1.5 miles or so from Easton's Beach, and super easy to get to.
Just like what other reviewers had said, the atmosphere is very casual and comfortable. Parking is plentiful. You walk in and you're first greeted by a fresh seafood market. Make a right and you'll see the restaurant part of Anthony's. You order your food at the counter and they will bring your food to you. Granted we were there at 3:00 pm for a late lunch/early dinner, the service was fast and friendly.
The food -- DELICIOUS! My husband and I ordered the Portuguese Fish Chowder, the Kung Pow Calamari and the Lobster Roll. All three were phenomenal. The fish chowder had thick flakes of fresh scallops and lobster in it. It also had a bit of a spicy kick to it, to our surprise. The Asian-inspired sauce for the kung pow calamari was amazing. It was unlike anything that I've ever had before. Let's just say, I came close to licking the plate; rather I settled for eating the sauce-soaked lettuce garnish. Yes people, it was that good and I was that desperate. Finally, the lobster roll. A highly anticipated Rhode Island staple and we were waiting to try it at Anthony's. My husband said it was his favorite item among the three that we ordered but I just liked the kung pow calamari better. The lobster roll did not disappoint - I mean you're talking about a generous serving of fresh lobster with a mayo+celery based sauce tucked between two toasted buns. It was accompanied by some of the best fries I've ever had, a pickle (gotta love a pickle) and coleslaw. Didn't really care for the 'slaw, it tasted just like... 'slaw. I downed everything with a Narangassett Lager... a really good local beer.
Honestly, on a normal day, it'd be a bit too much food for the two of us. But we didn't have lunch, it was also our dinner, and we are on vacation - so we finished everything that we ordered. The price also did not break the bank and we left extremely satisfied. Wish we had three extra days here to go try out everything else on the menu. I don't think you will be disappointed! -
Review from Annie R.
Amazing in a word.
They have the best lobster roll in the Newport area for sure.
This is not a sit down place, its a "to go" place, or sit at a picnic table outside. You do not come for ambiance, you come for fairly priced great food, its just that simple.
The crab cakes are delicious as well.
Worth the trip, get out of tourist land and treat yourself to something fantastic. -

Must get:
-Portuguese fish chowder rocks!
-Best Fish and Chips I've ever had (way better than the ones they make across the pond)
Pass on the clam strips here though, Flo's is better... -

Crazy delicious meal
Portuguese Fish Chowder, shrimp cocktail, Steamers, Baked Scrod, just one meal but it was perfect.
Order at the counter and they bring it, not all at once, apps first, then mains. A treasure.
Back for round two, two days later
Lobster, more seafood chowder, grilled shrimp
Still everything perfect. -

I go here with my family at least once a month or at least get take out! Their fish market is excellent as well.
They ahve the best fried clams with bellies around and at a reasonable price. I also enjoy their fired oysters with their horseradish sauce.
I find that they are way better than Flo's down the street! -

Reasonably priced lobster. Great Portuguese fish stew. Almost like cafeteria style, walk in order sit down and they bring it to you.
The lobster (whole, and roll) was very nicely done. The dressing on the roll had a soft flavor as to not overpower the lobster.
It is located far enough from the water to cut down on the mobs of tourists. The portions are big enough and the taste is great. I think I found my new favorite place to eat when I am in town. -

If there was a title I'd like to have, it'd be "Lobster Roll Connoisseur."
* The lobster MUST NOT be overly-mayo'd. The mayo has to lightly coat the claw meat. Think barely there. Really, the mayo's only use should be to help stick the lobster pieces together and to add a touch of wet to the roll. There should be chopped celery in the mayo.
* The lobster meat must be FRESH, SWEET, and CRISP! Lobster meat to bun ration should be 3:1. There should be at least 5 claws, mixed in with some succulent tail meat.
* The roll should be lightly toasted, warm, and buttery. Texas toast works well.
* The lettuce should be green-leaf and crunchy not cut up.
* A wedge of lemon should be squeezed over the meat.
Anthony's roll was all of the above and more.
Their kung-pao calamari was unique and very good!
Their clam strips were not overly-breaded, the clams were sweet, chewy, and tasted fresh.
Their clam chowder was creamy, well-seasoned, but needed more clams.
Newport blueberry beer tasted like pie.
Tried the Rhode Island specialty: stuffed quahog (a clam shell stuffed with clams, chorizo, peppers, onions, and spices). It was the only meh thing. Way too much breading. It tasted like day-old bread. Barely there seafood.
All in all, a fantastic, non-touristy seafood market! Chow here before doing the lovely Cliff Walk and don't forget to visit the GORGEOUS, monumental Breakers mansion. -
Review from Alyssa K.
Truly awesome seafood dinner.
My boyfriend and I had listed on our itinerary Anthony's and Flo's Clam Shack as dinner options after a late afternoon at First Beach. Since Flo's is right next to the beach, we decided to check that out first. After circling around Flo's for about 10 min., and seeing that the cars parked in the full tiny lot weren't going to leave anytime soon, we gave up and drove down to Anthony's.
Wow, were we glad we did. From the outside, Anthony's doesn't look like anything special. It doesn't have a nice seaside view like Flo's did. But who really cares? You go to a restaurant to eat, right? And the parking lot here is huge compared to Flo's. We knew we made the right choice when we were greeted by a line at the door.
The restaurant is sit-down, but you place your order and pay before claiming a table. After a few minutes reviewing the extensive menu, I decided on the fish (cod) and chips, and my boyfriend ordered the fish taco. We also got a cup of New England Clam Chowder to share and a bottle of the Lobster Ale. While we were waiting in line, we salivated at the items available for sale in the adjacent fish market, also run by Anthony's; their stuffies and crab cakes looked absolutely amazing.
The chowder was delicious - great consistency, lots of clam meat, and huge chunks of potato; we regretted not getting the bowl. The cod in my fish and chips was so flaky, and the fried batter had a great crunch to it. The fish taco was nothing like any other fish taco I've seen before. First, it had huge chunks of flounder in it...definitely not the crap you get at places like Baja Fresh. It came in a burrito-sized tortilla, so it was massive, and it was filled with this black bean salsa that truly made the dish, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and even a hard taco shell for texture. Both of our entrees were also complemented with this awesome cole slaw. And when I say it's awesome, you know it's pretty damn good b/c cole slaw is one of the few foods I refuse to eat!
I know based on the reviews here, lobster is the way to go at Anthony's. We were trying to budget, though, and while I was really craving a lobster roll, I didn't want to fork over $17.50 for one (though I'm sure it was worth every penny). But I'm very happy to say that the non-lobster items we tried were amazing, filling, and totally worth it for only $8.95 each. Definitely returning here the next time I'm in Newport! -

4 stars and here is why.
atmosphere: not so great, but the place is nice and bright.
doesnt smell fishy at all, so if you are going with someone who doesnt like fish or the smell dont worry.
my friend had a burger and said it was a really tasty hamburger. he said he would go back for the hamburger so thats good.
we also had the kung pow calamari and it was really good. the calamari is excellent.
I had the Portuguese fish chowder and it is outstanding. very tasty.
Food wise this place is a 4.5 but esthetically its a 3.5. Price wise I would say its pretty average. For the cheeseburger it was $8 and it was a big burger with fries. The calamari was $9 which is a really good price for such tasty calamari. The soup was $4, but it had lots of chourico, fish, scallops, and potatoes.
Overall the food is really good and unless you are looking to impress someone with linen tablecloths this is definitely a great place to eat~ -

When I'm on-island, Anthony's is the only place I go for fresh seafood. The fish market has an excellent selection from both local and distant waters. On my recent visit, I saw wild Pacific salmon, farmed Atlantic salmon, cod, haddock, flounder, sole, striped bass, bluefish, swordfish, and mako shark, to name a few. For shellfish, they typically have shrimp in a variety of sizes, scallops, soft-shell and hard-shell clams, oysters, and lobsters. Their seafood is exceptionally fresh and reasonably priced. If you don't see what you are looking for in the display case, ask the guys behind the counter, because they just might have it in the back room. Do you need bones to make a fish stock or stew? Planning a dinner party for a Navy? Not a problem...just call ahead in the morning, and the staff will set aside your items for you.
In addition, Anthony's has a number of semi-prepared options, such as shrimp cocktail, cocktail crab claws, baked stuff shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops, hot and mild stuffies, clams casino, oysters casino, fish cakes, crab cakes, salmon cakes, and stuffed sole. Did I miss anything? Don't leave without purchasing a pint of clam or fish chowder. My favorite is the Portuguese fish chowder, which contains flaky white fish, shrimp, chorico, and potatoes in a rich creamy broth. I usually purchase a couple of stuffies as well, though I agree with a previous Yelper who stated that the heavy breading somewhat overpowers the sparsity of clams. They are a delicious snack just the same!
If you are interested in prepared food, either eat-in or take-out, then look no further. Though the dining room is no-frills, and you won't have an ocean view, Anthony's has some of the best grilled, broiled, or fried seafood, hands-down. They also have chicken sandwiches and hamburgers, in the event that you don't eat seafood. If you are looking for quality fresh seafood that won't break the bank, then go to Anthony's!Listed in: Newport and surroundings

This place isn't very glamorous, but it does have the best seafood around. Everything is delicious!!!!! As a former Rhode Islander, I have eaten at my share of restaurants in Rhode Island, and if your looking for the best seafood and wholesale value, definitely check this place out!

Oh, how I wish I were still hungry so that I could order more!!
I'm only here in Newport for one night on business and I was so disappointed to find out that Flo's was closed, as I heard alot of rave reviews and was excited to be in the area to try it.
My super friendly cabbie insisted that I try Anthony's and I now think that he's my foodie guardian angel.
I tried RI clam chowder for the first time and I'm glad I opted for it instead of the cream based one.
I also got a mild stuffie bc I had no clue what it was, but kept reading the good reviews on it. It was a pleasant first, though I haven't tried anything like it to compare it to. I could really appreciate the fact that it had a ton of complimenting elements.
I also got the small portion of the whole belly clams. Wowza. First of all, if I got the "small", I don't want to see what their "large" portion size is. The clams were very plump and fresh--fried perfectly, without excess breading.
As I am actually still sitting in my booth while I write this, I wish that I had room for this lobster roll that all you yelpers are raving about. I'm also considering ordering some raw delights as well.
Who knows? Maybe I'll risk the explosion of my stomach for the sake of excellent seafood! ;-) -

Great food at great prices. Food was fresh and staff very friendly.
We went there with a 13 month old and the owner was awesome.
A few nights later we went back and got some fresh flounder and stuffies, as well as corn from the vendor out front. everything was delicious! -

It was pretty hot out today, so we went in search of a place with air-conditioning and that accepted credit cards (long story). We saw Anthony's Seafood on our car navigation system and thought it would be part of the Anthony's chain that's in San Diego and other places.
Nope. NOT the same Anthony's. This was not the nice sit-down restaurant we were expecting. This was a small place where you place your order at the counter and then have a seat to wait for your food to come out.
Also, it is NOT air conditioned. Even so, they took credit cards and we were starving, so we ate.
Food was pretty good - very fresh. I had the Grilled Salmwich and a cup of NE clam chowder. The chowder was AWESOME. The Salmwich tasted a little fishy for my taste / not what I'm used to for salmon, but it was pretty good. I also tried one of the local Newport "Blueberry" beers, and that was EXCELLENT.
Atmosphere is meh. It's not fancy. It was hot as heck. I was sweating profusely by the time we finished eating and left. Actually, I didn't bother to finish eating - I was too hot (I'm normally a clean-my-plate type of guy).
Service was friendly and professional. Prices were reasonable. -

I got some stuffies (stuffed quahog) and chowder from Anthony's today. Chowder was okay, not the best. But the stuffies, they were just awful. It was just mashed up bread in a quahog shell. The bread was not even mixed will with what ever else they add, as there was still chunks of white bread visible. No flavor to them at all.
