Review from Martha M.

The wine by the glass is a good value and they aren't stingy with the vino... which is very nice.
The veal and seafood dishes are excellent and they always have great specials to die for. The staff really takes care of the customers- attentive, courteous and very kind.
I have been here several times with groups of 25 or more. Even for a large party, the service was great with open bar for the two hours and the price was very reasonable.
This is a really great place. Everything from the appetizers to dessert was excellent. -

We tried Anthony's for the first time this evening. The food is good. Nice clams casino. Pretty good seafood Diavlo. Wife had a filet with crabmeat and (eek) swiss cheese. However, it was cooked to a nice med-rare. The wine was cheap, but the whites were warm. Then, the shock came. We were there with our two kids. They don't have a published menu for kids, but ran down the usual set of options (tenders, pasta, pizza, etc). I should have asked. I really should have asked. When we got the bill, my jaw hit the floor. 13.00 for kids tenders and fries. 10.00 for kid's penne with a meatball. 3.00 for a sprite. 3.50 for milk. I just spent 30 bucks on kids meals for a 4 and 8 year old. All I say is make sure you ask first for anything not published. If I would have asked, we would have left.

Food was good-- my main complaint about Anthony's is the management. We went to dinner with a larger group (we had a reservation), and it took over an hour for us to get our food after ordering. Not once did management check on us to see if we were okay or to apologize for the delay. Instead, they left our waitress to deal with the issue. She was wonderful and did everything she could to ensure we were satisfied. Despite her efforts, when our food did arrive, some of the orders were made incorrectly and had to be sent back. One person in our party didn't receive her meal until everyone else was done eating. Though we were offered a free drink, when we approached the manager about the problem, he said "I don't know what else you want me to do." His demeanor was pompous and unhelpful. Again, our waitress was wonderful, and even offered for us to omit her tip, but quite frankly, she shouldn't have to take responsibility for the shortcomings of management.

Anyone who grew up with Dante and Luigi's or the Saloon holds a special place in their heart for Italian restaurants. Not like the corner spaghetti house, or high cuisine, but a place with lots of autographed pictures on the wall of people you think you know, Sinatra, and the air conditioner a little too cold, waiters in long aprons, hot peppers on the table, a host that is genuinely happy to see you again, even if you never met. God I miss Scampi of the 80s.
When you walk in the door at Anthony's you just hope it will be that kind of place. It has the ambiance. It has the host. Unfortunately, the martinis weren't really cold, the staff was not polished and the food was uneven given the price. Good baked clams, the same undistinguished red sauce used on three different dishes, house salad. Great room and great vibe, but I don't think I'll go back. -

Had dinner at Anthony's last night. The place was great. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was terrific. I had the chicken alla Stephen. It was covered with shrimp and large pieces of lobster - it was wonderful. My husband had the swordfish special, he loved it. My only complaint was with the shrimp lejohn we ordered. It was only 4 tiny little shrimp, not worth the $9 they charged.

I like Anthony's, but more for just hanging at the bar or for small parties and banquets than for sit-down dinners. The clientele seems a little older in the restaurant areas. They have a small room off to the side that is good for something like 80 guests, and a larger hall down below for bigger events, and seem to cater to both a lunch and dinner crowd. There is a nice outdoor covered deck, and though it looks out to the parking lot on two sides (and is behind the main strip of stores in Drexeline shopping center), it has a nice ambiance with a creek that runs past the third side of the deck. The food is o.k. but not great, and they always have a full house on the weekends, but it is fairly empty during weeknights.
