Review from Ian W.
Anthony's Food Shop is a large convenience store/Shell gas station, located just north of Stonewall Kitchen on US Route 1, where you can get gas, beer, wine, cold drinks, snacks, small groceries, and lots of tasty food offerings!
Driving up Route 1 through York on a sunny afternoon, I made a pitstop at Anthony's Food Shop, to fuel up my ride and myself for a late lunch.
For food, Anthony's Food Shop offers great NY style pizza (slices/whole pies), subs, sandwiches, Nathan's Hot Dogs, Italian dinners, seafood, fresh baked goods, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, Green Mountain Coffee (self serve carafes), and more. They have a grab and go cooler with croissant deli sandwiches, salads, ready to heat meals, and cakes. Boar's Head meats are used in the sandwiches. At the order counter, they have whoopee pies, carrot cake, large soft brownies, and large cookies. See the menu offerings and prices at http://www.anthonysfoo...
There's seating in back of the store and picnic table seating outside. The back wall has long framed pictures of Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics championships.
Since Anthony's offers FREE WI-FI, I brought my laptop inside with me and took a seat in the back seating area. To use the Free Wi-Fi, you have to sign up for a temporary account before you can surf away, a bit of a pain, but once on, it was a fast connection.
Well, they had just put out pizza slices fresh out of the oven in the display case. I ordered a big Cheese Slice ($2.35) and the Haddock Fish & Chips ($7.49). The thin crust NY pizza was great, folding the slightly greasy slice NY style. I was impressed with the Fish & Chips, a generous portion. I got a big long piece of haddock coated with a crispy batter and served with a pile of very crispy fries.
I enjoyed my big late lunch while checking my messages and catching up on some much needed social networking. I don't Twitter, yet. I had to use extra caution not to get any grease on the mouse and keyboard.
Tasty pizza and great fish & chips at a gas station, who knew!Listed in: Favorite Pizza in New England

Really good Pizza, great breakfast sandwiches, quick and convenient. The atmosphere is, well, like a gas station. Could be nicer, but the food is good.

Anthonys made good on their promise to make up for a bad pizza experience I had recently. I got a gift card in the mail for a large pepperoni and large cheese pizza. Picked them up last night and they were perfect! I highly recommend Anthonys, if not just for their wonderful customer service (but their food is pretty awesome, too).

Excellent lunch stop. Yes it is a gas station... But oh so good! My friend had a Reuben panini that was amazing. The bread was very fresh and the vegetables were very tasty.

I didn't expect to find what I thought was just a little best kept secret in Maine already reviewed on yelp. They do deserve all the 5 star reviews though.
We just moved to the area and in the middle of moving one late night stopped to grab gas and maybe a bite to eat. It's a gas station so I wasn't expecting much, but you walk in and it's so much more.
We ended up ordering bacon cheeseburgers and fries and I grabbed a piece of carrot cake.
The prices are awesome and the portions HUGE. The carrot cake was the best I have ever tasted in my life and enough for a few days, the people were very friendly, fast service and I just found out they deliver. We stopped another time and got pizza. National Chains just can't make pizza like this. Homemade food, great service, quick, cheap and right off the highway. Perfect! -

Had to try Anthony's since my friend told me Paul Newman used to eat there when he stayed in town. Don't be fooled, this is not a gas station but a gourmet sandwich kitchen. Staff was super friendly. The food was delish. Little bit more expensive than some of the other places in town but well worth it. It also has a cool pet store.

Took the kids here because their brochure advertises "Shains of Maine" ice cream, big disappointment because it's just quarts in the freezer, not a scoop shop.
My cheeseburger was nothing special, big because of the bun, but the slice of cheese was so thin that I had to look under the lettuce to make sure they had even added any cheese since I couldn't taste any. As for the meat, it had a very good charcoal flavor but it was substandard meat with a lot of chewy gristle. Thumbs down. Thumbs WAY down for the onion rings, they're of the frozen variety and you just don't charge 4 bucks for a handful of FROZEN onion rings. Sorry, not in Maine , the onion ring capitol of the world, that ain't gonna fly Anthony. Especially when your blurb on Yelp says "who wants to eat frozen pizza?" Nobody wants cheapass frozen O rings either.
Service was lazy and slow, the help was chit chatting and finally meandered up to the counter to take our order. The three stars are because next morning we decided we actually LIKED Anthony's, we had picked up a big Raspberry muffin and a jumbo fresh Peanut Butter Cookie...both were excellent and worth a stop.
