My Favorite place.  On the water,  saltwater aquariums, freshest fish in So. Cal.  Great Service, Very Reasonably priced.  The Best!
Kid friendly and a great experience for them as well.
Stop in on you're way to or from Sea World.

i went to anthony's fishette with an out of town friend who said it was recommended to her.  first off, parking is horrendous in this area!  we drove through the parking "strip" next to harbor drive 3x's and could not find a spot.  it's all about timing, who's leaving and whether you're right there to take the spot.  it took us 30 mins to circle around the area.  finally, we had an epiphany and went to the other side of harbor drive and found a metered spot in front of the city hall building - score!

after all that work, we were excited to grab a beer and some grub at the fishnette.  it's cute enough, off to the side of the regular dining area, with a view of the bay.  we ordered clam chowder and fried calamari, which came with a side choice of either fries, cole slaw, a pasta salad and something else?  we chose the fries... and it's sad to say that they were the best part.  the chowder was too sweet and the calamari had a distinct spice on it that neither my friend nor i was a fan of.  to make things worse, the booth we sat in felt like there was a child constantly kicking the back of it - we eventually figured out that it may be the waves hitting the poles below us.

all in all, it was not worth the hassle of finding parking to get to this spot.  maybe the actually restaurant has better food... or maybe i will try the fish and chips that's recommended in the other reviews if i ever go back.

I live in SD so this place has some sentimental value.

You come here for "fast" food, quotes around fast because it is a place where you get food and usually leave type of place.  My family usually gets fish and chips, fish tacos and sandwiches.

It isn't meant to be a fancy place.  It really is just meant to be a place where you get your food and you leave type of thing.

If you are going to get food and sit down here, don't expect to get a table on the weekend or anytime during the summer, ESPECIALLY if you have a big group.  If you do want to do that, have one person order all the food and have the other people get tables but if you have a group more than four then you ARE NOT going to sit together.

Be really careful with your wallets too.  I've seen a wallet of another customer float into the ocean.  It is possible.

It really is a good place just to stop by if you want food and are close by.

Parking is horrendous.  I was visiting a friend and we went here on a recommendation.  It took over a 1/2 hour to find a spot.  We went to the fishette and ordered clam chowder and calamari and a side of fries.  I agree that the fries were the best part.  The chowder tasted like melted butter and I am not convinced it didn't come out of a can.  The fried calamari had an odd seasoning which I was not a fan of.  I wouldn't recommend this as a must stop.

The view and location. That is about it.

The food and sticky tables are something less admirable.  The fish tacos were quite awful. A lot of sour cream and no fancy sauce that it is usually served up with.  In SD, you have a lot to live up to for a fish taco. Taco Bell has a better taco then this.

The beinets were awful.  Hard and crusty.  They seemed still frozen.  No Cafe Du Monde action here.  These were like frozen hard biscuits deep fried.

Use the bathroom in the restaurant, but all in all.  Keep on walking.  If you are craving a fish taco, there is a Los Panchitos on PCH that is nearby and much better.

You come here for the fish and chips....and the view. You can't really screw either up at this location. We came later in the evening and the place was clean and at a comfortable occupancy level. Service was timely, friendly and attentive.

I'm not sure what people are expecting. It's a staple in San Diego that a lot of tourists frequent (right on the Harbor so yea, it's gonna be busy most of the time) and locals can rely on. I don't think the establishment is trying to be fancy or an upperclass establishment. It's a fun place to have fish on the water and your experience is what you make of it.

I was craving fish and chips and a beer and Anthony's hit the spot. For $15 it was totally worth it. Good portion of fried fish, a LOT of chips and a solid local beer = happy customer.

It's about as touristy as a place can be and yet, I've discovered that touristy places can be a lot of fun, simply because tourists seem to always be having a darn good time.  Don't believe me?  Check out the Happy Hour at Humphrey's Backstage lounge sometime and watch the tipsy tourists from Middletown, USA dance like silly fools, enjoying themselves to the fullest and without a care in the world.

There's very little dancing going on at Anthony's but you get the same friendly types of folks (but more sober).  They are here for the view (excellent, right on the water) and the deeply, deeply fried fish.  In fact, I double dog dare you to tell the difference between the fried fish, the fried clams, the fried oysters and the fried calamari, if you eat the different items with your eyes closed.

By the way, the tartar sauce is very, very good, and you can help yourself to mounds of the fattening stuff.

Prices are higher than they should be but once again, tourists expect to pay more and seem to have no problem doing it.  And folks on vacation don't care about eating healthy food, either, which is good because this stuff is not healthy whatsoever.

In all candor, we had a gift certificate so our meal was nearly free, but we had a very good time.  Everyone around was super friendly and the view is great.

I'm starting to like these touristy places in my own hometown.

This is another MUST try for me.  I'm giving this place a 5 I don't care if parking sucks I would come back here over and over.  My girl took me here and I was blown away by the scenery.  Located right next to the water, I could've caught my own fish if I had a rod! I recommend this place to anyone.  Must try their grilled fish of the day.  the fish has a wonderful buttery taste and oh my goodness their new england chowder is so damn good! better than SF (sorry bay area), and their coconut crusted shrimp with their sweet sauce is yummy too but man GET the grilled fish! So If you want cheap food go here, not the fine dining on the right but the outside location.

We came here on a Monday afternoon before going on the Harbor Boat cruise. It's a beautiful spot to eat, great view, good for tourists, etc. but the food really sucked. I was disappointed by their "famous fish tacos." They actually tasted like a McDonald's fish filet sandwich except that it was on a tortilla. Way too much sour cream (or mayo?) and cheese. Perhaps I should've ordered the fish and chips since everyone else seemed to be enjoying them. The krab 'n mac salad was pretty good, and at least the view distracted me at bit from the subpar food.

After the boat cruise, we dropped by to pick up some of the "Fresh & Hot" beignets for an afternoon snack. These were THE WORST beignets I've ever had in life. They were hard as a rock (see uploaded pic), not fluffy whatsoever like one would expect. Yes, they were probably freshly fried and served hot, but whatever dough they used must've been frozen or did not rise properly. It was so dense that I had to cut into it with a knife and some elbow grease to try to eat it. And even then it was difficult to chew.

Come here to enjoy the view with an iced tea, and possibly the fish and chips everyone else seems to recommend.

We always have to get fish and chips here when we are in San Diego!  We love the fish and chips and atmosphere on the harbor.  It does get cold though so bring a WARM jacket.  The chicken and burgers are just ok but why go to a fish place for chicken and burgers?  Get the fish and chips...

We first visited the Anthony's in La Mesa. That location has its own lake and the interior looks like you are in Disneyland's submarine ride circa 1964!

So a visit to the touristy bayside location in downtown San Diego was a bit of a let down as far as interior decor. But the view of the harbor was great, the location next to the Mar time Museum is awesome, and the service and food are right up there with what you expect from Anthony's in La Mesa. For lovers of classic/traditional restaurants both of these locations are mandatory stops.

We went for lunch and enjoyed a fresh iceburg wedge good fries and sandwiches and the free bread to start off that came with sun-dried tomato butter and garlic butter!

I wouldn't be surprised if Anthony's had advertisements in airline magazines cause it seems like the tourist to local ratio is heavily in favor of those vacationing. That being said the Fishette is a pretty decent spot to grab a quick bite and people watch, which is what most SD visitor's want to do.

The food is ok, but it wouldn't exactly be the first place I'd recommend for fish tacos. They only have the option of fried, which is annoying, and they heavily over sour cream the things. If I was lactose intolerant the glob that was in my tortilla would have put me in a coma.

After scraping out about 200 calories worth of the white stuff the meal was pretty good, but like I said there are tons of better spots. I'd take a relative from out of town here if they wanted to see the bay, but it's not going on my regular cycle of spots.

2 star rating represents 2 different visits, both Quite Different.

Yesterday's visit would get one star or negative one star.
I ordered the fish taco (filled w/their 'famous' style deep fried fish).

Fish was average, over-cooked and small, hidden beneath a 2" layer (no lie) of mayonnaise *barf. I think this stupid fresh-fish taco-fake cost me $4.25 of my better judgment. The fish laid upon a greasy corn tortilla, falling open within the cardboard bowl /tray. I really should have taken a photo of this presentation.

Lat night I had a stomach ache, and worse.
That taco ran through me like a slow freight train, bumping heavily against every intestinal curve. Slow, steady and heavy.

    Yesterday's visit gets ONE STAR.
    ---------------------------------------------
Previously in May went with my sons and got the fish baskets $9.25 small amount of fish and french fries (or other options), I got a bowl of clam chowder.
My generous son allowed me a taste, and I found the fish was FRESH, buttery fresh fish that made your mouth sing. Claim chowder was enjoyable too.
May's previous visit gets Three Stars.

I like their location, if you're hanging out in the area, nice place to sit by the water and drink Pepsi.

I really enjoy this place as it's right by the water and I love the atmosphere. During lunchtime, there can be about a 10 minute wait for your food, so I'd keep that in mind.

I'd recommend the fresh fish n chips or the grilled fish of the day. I usually get the fish n chips but felt wild one day and tried the grilled fish, and it was delicious! It seems to have a light batter over it, but it tastes fresh and a lot lighter than your fish n chips.

A friend of mine got the 'treasures' or whatever they call it where it has an assortment of seafood. I wouldn't recommend it as the portions were very small compared to the fish dish.

Great place to have a nice conversation outside.

Stopped in for an early lunch.  Realized that I've probably been eating here off and on for nearly 20 years.

Right on the waterfront next to the cruise ship terminal, it's hard to beat for a reasonably priced waterfront meal, provided you like clam chowder and deep fried seafood.

As always, I had the "mixed treasures" which is batter dipped and deep fried fish, shrimp, calamari, and a couple clams thrown in.  The clams are always more batter than clam, but there are worse things.  Served with your choice of sides - couldn't tell you what they are as I always get french fries.  What else would you eat with deep fried fish but deep fried potatoes?

The food's always hot and fresh.  Nothing spectacular, but always decent.  While I've watched the portions get smaller and the prices get higher over the years, I still enjoy some fried seafood on the deck, over the water.

I give them two stars for the location. If you can grab a table next to the window you will have a very pleasant view of the ocean.

First of all , they are awfully overpriced for their quality of the food and portion sizes. On average it is $9.50 for a few small pieces of fish and  french fries, no drink.

Second, if you decide to go to this place , do yourself a favor, do not order their "famous" fish and chips. That fish was absolutely the worst deep fried fish I had ever ate. I am pretty sure they took a bunch of frozen fish fillets  without defrosting them, dumped them in the batter and deep fried it . It was totally plane, watery ,slimy, just horrible tasting fish. I could not eat it, so I had to split calamaris with my husband. The calamaris were okay , nothing special, but at least they were edible.

If you're a tourist, it's fine. Locals probably go to Point Loma Seafood or Blue Water.

There was a time when Anthony's on Embarcadero used to put your meals in blue plastic boats. They also included tentacles in your calamari.
Now it's more bottom line slosh out fried fish and fries as quickly as possible. The fish and chips is what you should get here, other items fall short including the chewy calamari rings.

    - If you are looking for something lighter, you can order sides of beans and rice.
    - Visit the maritime museum first. With your museum receipt you'll get a Buy one entree, get a bowl of chowder for free. ( basically saves you four bucks)

This place is like equivalent to those Seafood Fast Food Stands in San Fran! But..of course, it's not a stand! haha It's like a little outdoor patio place and it's nice because it's out by the harbor. My family and I came after my brother's viola teacher had introduced us to this place and gave it a try. The prices are reasonable and the portions are good! We had fish and chips, a fried mixture of seafood, a shrimp wrap, and the clam chowder. It was all great! I really liked the clam chowder! San Diego and San Fran are the only places I really like clam chowder:)

"NumbAR pipty two." resounded from the speakers.

My friend parked in one of the many meter parking spots along harbor drive.

    "NumbAR pipty two."

/LAUGH "Are we at Seafood City?" I asked my friend.
Go figure that some of the cooks here are filipino ladies. Oh hai Auntie!

So my friend stared at the menu for a good 5 minutes until we decided on ordering the Mixed Treasure Plate and a Grill Tuna Salad and Cheese Melt Sandwich, and a medium drink.

Patio seating + sunny day in San Diego = zOMG.

So we waited until our number was called,
    "numbAR turty two"
my friend got ketchup, tartar sauce, and lemons.

The Mixed Treasure came with battered fried clams, scallops, fish, shrimp and fries, but you can get cole slaw , krab & mac salad, black beans and even WHITE RICE in lieu of the fries. That goes for any plate or sandwich order. The scallops were tiny, but still good, the shrimp was oh so frakkin delicious and so was the fish, the clams were good too. I like my fries crispy and the fries were crispy.

The tuna melt was just as good as the mixed treasure plate.

THE TARTAR SAUCE IS A MUST. It's not white like most tartar sauce but with a hint of pink, probably from the chopped tomatoes? that were in it. But trust me it's good.

As for ambiance, don't be fooled. Tourists trap? I think not or maybe not yet. A bunch of people there were locals who work in the downtown vicinity, or like me who want to enjoy a day of people watching, seafood and a bright SD day before all the real tourists come in June-July-August.

It was my first time there but once we started eating my friend said, "We need to come here more often."

What is also neat is that people with boats can dock right next to the place and walk up a ramp that leads to the fishette. How cool is that?!

They have beer, and you can get it in a pitcher too.
There's a plethora of seating, comfy booths, or if you want to overlook the bay go around the corner.

Walk N. Harbor Drive after eating and you won't feel as full. :)

This is a great stop to get some cheap, local seafood in the downtown  harbor area. I ate my fish taco and then greedily hogged the majority of my son's fish and chips because that battered fish was like heaven on earth! The "chips" were also top notch, but the view for the forth of July fireworks over the bay was my favorite part about our visit to anthony's!

Yesterday someone in the household had a craving for deep fried shrimp since they only eat seafood and vegetables.  I call him seavegetarian.  However, if he ever craves for seafood, its once but a while.  So we try to find the nearest place we can agree on to get his food craving satisfied.

After looking even through Yelp and finding in our area mostly Chinese and Thai restaurants serving their versions of deep fried shrimp (too much added such as noodle wrap etc.).  We settled on Anthonys Fishette, parking is incredibly easy by the Harbor and the wait should not be long.

Parking the car, getting a little testy with the boy, Apricot, we proceeded.  Brian already knew he wanted the shrimp boat and I went for the Mixed treasure, battered fried fish, clam, calamari, and shrimp.  We both had a choice of the add-on, either rice, cole slaw, french fries  and several others that didn't look appealing.  We settled on cole slaw and fries for each order.

The pricing is definitely tourist prices.  It came to 20plus for a meal for two without drinks.  We had ours to go since we knew the boy would just be a handful with the numerous tourists walking around.

Shrimp boat - I would say medium sized shrimp deepfried with the fries.  Brian wanted something more shrimpy sized (popcorn) and thought his meal was just okay.  He didnt' finish it, and at these prices those shrimps are my lunch the next day.

Mixed treasure - Sounds what its named us, its a mix, you get good with the bad.  The good, the clamstrips were nice and crunchy, the fish ok, the shrimp not bad and the scallops tasty again.  The disappointment was the calamari which almost didn't  look like it held the batter since it was all calamaris rings with no breading.

French fries - were normal nothing to rave about.

Cole Slaw - i thoroughly enjoyed this one, normally cole slaw from fast food places are throwaways, I liked Anthony's version of the cole slaw.

Overall, if I was visiting San Diego and stopped by Anthony's fishette, It would be okay, cheaper than sitting in a seafood restaurant and paying twice as much with no guarantees of a good meal despite the prices.  With Anthony's Fishette I knew what I was getting and at what price.  Anthonys Fish Grotto next door is the more regular sit down restaurant with the bay view.

P.S.  Both sauces that came with the food were average or below.  The cocktail sauce was so so and the tartar sauce looked like mayo with relish.

Would I go out of my way to eat here, not necessarily.  I would rather pay more and go to King's Fish House eventhough I know their prices can hit your wallet hard.

Hands down the absolute best people-watching in town.  Walmart on Aero drive comes in a close 2nd with their selection of freaks, but who wants to sit down and hang out there?  Anthony's Fishette is a place where you can grab some seafood fried to perfection, some crispy fries, a bowl of chowder, and just sit and watch the show.

There are freaks from all walks of life here.  From the bums, to the tourists, to the rich peeps pulling up in their yacht.  My favorite are the tourists and they pack the hell out of this area.  They make great entertainment, but dammit if they're the only ones keeping those pedicabs in business.

If you come here, come with a partner.  It gets crowded and it's tough to find a seat sometimes.  It helps to have someone hold your seat when you get up to get your food.  It may seem a little pricey for some fried seafood, but it's worth it when you consider the entertainment value.  Stop by and enjoy the show!

The calamari and shrimp where actually quite good, though. Liked the coleslaw and macaroni salad. I was going to give 4 stars but then I tried the "cocktail sauce" and WTF? where did the horseradish go...? and the fried clam strips....?

Probably the same place the fourth star went- into magical gone forever land

As far as seafood goes this place is average at best, however there are two things on the menu that I would recommend and keeps me going back from time to time.

The fried claims are delicious. Not many places have friend claim strips anymore and if they do their usually not very good but this place just gets it right. And secondly, the crab mac salad is great. One taste and you'll inhale the rest of it. Other then those two thing there's really nothing else on the menu worth ordering.

If you're in the area and feel like a quick bite to eat, this place will do. It's right on the water so there's a nice view on sunny days. But remember this is a fast food seafood restaurant so don't expect too much.

I love this place! The chowder is amazing! I had the salmon sandwich which was so-so. I thought that the fish just wasn't tender enough for me to enjoy, but I think the fish and chips are delish! The breading isn't thick, and it has mostly tender fish with breading that was light yet flavorful! It's right by the marina with a great view. Although the smell of the sea is very strong, I'd say its tolerable if you like the ocean.

    DATE NITE---- MUY ROMANTICO.

Tears falling out of my eye. I loved going to the Fishette when there was one at one end of Seaport Village.   It's been years. I now know what that evil restaurant critic felt like when he tasted the Ratatouille--yes, the mouse movie.  For sides, I recommend the fries (c-c-c-c-c-cris-pee, cris-pee) or cole slaw. The crab/mac salad is mediocre at best.  I will admit that this is one of my more biased reviews because the Fishette brings me fond memories of family nite dinners.  When I became a teen and loitered at Seaport, we would all pool our money to buy plates of fried evil morsels.  We were skinnier then and could down more.  Now, it's a date nite ritual.

    Back to food...
Both chowders are delicious but the new england version is a little too buttery for me so i stick to the manhattan.  The scallops and fish although fried and so bad for you,  is just so gooooood.  So right, even though so wrong.  Don't judge!  We've all done the bad, even when we knew it wasn't good for us.

Undecided?  -go for the mixed plate.
Want more fish, don't get Mixed Plate because you will only get one fish portion but you do get a lot of calamari, shrimp and scallops.  More calamari than clams in that plate.

    Back to Date Nite...
park and take a nice walk along the bay.
    order food.
    drink some beer.
    enjoy clams, fish and chips.
    sit outside.
maybe down some oysters on the raw
    heating lamps++
have nice conversation and laugh a lot.

    Smooch.
    Hold hands.

The Fishette side is more laid back and casual.  Of course, more variety in the Grotto if you want more than fried or sandwich fare.

Anthony's Fishette and my trips to SD go hand in hand. So much so that I am pretty sure over the last 27+ years, every time I have been to the city, I have stopped at this seafood staple at least once. And the best part? Nothing has really changed over that period of time other then the prices adjusting for inflation.

If you like seafood but do not need the whole fancy sit down experience, stand in line, place an order, grab your food and take a seat on the patio overlooking the cruise ship terminal.

Personally I high recommend  the New England clam chowder and the shrimp boat with fries. Hell..... just order anything and it's bound to be nothing short of amazing. (Mind you, this is not a gourmet AAA 4-star restaurant but a 4-star outdoor, stand in line and place your order Yelp Restaurant.

This is our family's favorite little place to eat.  Great casual atmosphere with a nice view of the San Diego Bay!

Go for a walk along the Embarcadero and stop by the Fishette for a late afternoon meal.  This place can fill up quickly at lunch and dinner time.  There is seating available on first come first serve basis... but sometimes it's hard to find a seat during peak times.  There is a dock too - so you can travel in by boat if you prefer.  The kids enjoy looking at the water and the boats passing by.

The New England Clam Chowder is delicious; no bacon for those of you restricted from pork, such as myself.  Basket of fried fish, various "treasures" calamari, squid, scallops etc... with french fries, or cole slaw.  They also have some Mexican inspired dishes such as a shrimp burrito with rice and/or black beans.  And crab flautas - these are very tasty but a bit expensive.

Servings are generous without being too much.  Average meal for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 toddlers) is $30-35...  this includes drinks, quart of clam chowder, two meals and an extra side or two for the kiddies.

Parking can also be a nightmare depending on the time of day and season... meters are free after 6pm, all day Sundays, and all major holidays!

This place is what it is, and you get what you should expect.
This place is a quick bite of seafood on the harbor.

Yes it attracts the Tourist. If you were a tourist, I'm sure you'd love to go home and say "Oh I had a bowl of Clam Chowder, at a waterfront harbor restaurant."  Your  friends and family back home would never know the the difference, plus the place is quick and cheap, which adds to the benefits for a tourist.

So if you're a local or a tourist,  and looking for a quick, casual place to grab some decent seafood, then this places ain't too shabby. You just can't go there expecting anything but-- which isn't a bad thing.

Let's not pretend: The Fishette is most definitely a tourist trap, as signified simply by the location.  Tourist traps frequently suck and should be avoided, however, and that's not the case with the Fishette.

The shrimp was excellent for fast food shrimp, something I avoid as a general rule, with light breading.  The waterfront view in the dining area is stellar.  It's a great place for a quick, affordable lunch if you happen to find yourself in the area short on time or money and need something simple.
