5 reviews for Anthony's Beach Cafe
I've eaten here many times...in fact the first time I visited the Beach Club was for a job interview with a large insurance company in 1999. The gal who interviewed me drove me thru downtown Edmonds and I knew I had to live near the Puget Sound. I figure I have eaten here at about 3 to 4 times a year since 1999 which is testament in itself that I enjoyed it enough to come back.
All these years eating here, I've never had a bad meal. Some of my meals were just okay, but most have been pretty decent. My favorite is the Panko-crusted fresh fish, usually halibut. Their fish tacos are pretty decent and I've also had their planked salmon. During those wonderful summer days, ask for a table outside and watch the Edmonds Ferry arrive and depart and enjoy a Puget Sound sunset. In the summertime, the planters outside are overflowing with beautiful flowers and plants providing a wonderful backdrop for the outside tables. They even have 2 sandboxes for the kids: one at the restaurant entrance for those who have to wait for a table....and the other at the rear of the restaurant near the outdoor seating area. So it's definitely a place that kids will enjoy.
Service can be a bit hectic and therefore spotty, especially during their busy times. Good place for business lunch if you have the time to handle the 25MPH zones going thru Edmonds downtown area and can put up with a little slower service.
If you want a "toni-er " version of the cuisine, eat upstairs at Anthony's Seaport which is probably 2x more expensive...more formal atmosphere and quieter. I personally like the laid-back Beach Club ambience better. Yeah, I'm a regular here and I'll probably continue to be.
I'm a working mom, and Anthony's Beach Cafe is a go-to restaurant for my daughter and me whenever my husband is out of town. My daughter is 10 and a very picky eater but she always eats the food here. I can count on the beach cafe to have a good selection of wine by the glass. My personal favorite dishes are the rockfish tacos, salmon burgers and seafood fettucine. Also, when we want to splurge, my daughter and I love the blackberry buckle dessert a la mode - that alone is worth the price of admission.
The kitchen staff works super hard., and it's always fun to sit at the counter and watch them in action.
The draw here is really the location. With help of the floor to ceiling windows you can take in the Marina, Island, Ferry and Puget Sound views. They also offer a nice outdoor seating area surrounded by beautiful planter boxes filled with colorful blooms. This is actually the cafe rather than the restaurant and is located on the lower Right side of the building.
Otherwise the indoor eating space, perhaps the reason it's called a cafe is open and very loud. Not exactly condusive to a relaxing Sunday afternoon. I've eaten outside in the past and that was much more of an enjoyable experience as the child shreiks and lady cackles don't reverberate around you like they do inside. Unfortunately, although a warm day, the sun wasn't shining and the wind was too cold to bear so we sucked it up for an inside experience.
To be honest, the prices at this cafe aren't much of a break from the restaurant so in the future, I think I'll just head up the stairs unless I'm looking to partake in the outdoor seating. The menu is also pretty limited, I thought to myself that the seafood chop salad must be pretty large at $18 however saw one delivered to a table and it looked to be a disappointment.
We started with some chowder of which I have to say was quite delicious. Large chunks of potato, celery and tender clams in a creamy base that had a bit of a kick. Both of us then had the fish and chips. These made the noise worth it! The batter was crispy and perfectly seasoned without being greasy or too much in comparison to the fish. The fish inside was perfectly cooked, moist and not at all chewy. This fish literally melted in our mouths! Another bonus was the chips being that they were the thin crispy version, my preferance. The coleslaw had a poppyseed dressing that to me was a bit too mild as I like some vinegar to go with my fish. I did squeeze some of my lemon into it and it really helped the flavor.
I waivered here on whether to give 2 or 3 stars however based on the food and service, I went with 3 stars. The downside here is the noise and food prices because you are paying for the view. However if it's a beautiful day, you are in the North end and you're looking to enjoy an outside marine dining experience, I highly recommend this location and the prices may be worth it to you in the end.
I had an ok time , the food was great , But the service was awful . I`ve been there before & it was great . Last night NO not great just ok. I sat @ the bar to watch the cooks & the server i had was so dumb maybe it was her first time not sure anyway .I had the Shrimp Fettuccini was awsome , Then i order a sundae . & there was no toppings on it (RUDE) ! I was not very happy I seem to have better luck when it`s luch time then i do when it`s dinner .
good oysters, bad bad bad lunch rolls, may 3 years prior? threw off everything. Bad mixed drinks, what a 1/2 shot for an eight dollar drink no thank you! Great location, good service. Most likely just an off day.
