This place is really amazing. I only went to the marina part where you can go into the water. I am still amazed that I was just able to float in the salt lake. It's so peaceful and quiet there. The water was a bit chilly, but I had to get in & float. There were hardly any people there at all when I visited in late September. The shower facilities are also nice. I highly recommend that you shower after going in the water because you will be caked with salt!
The entrance fee to the park is $9 per car.

Gorgeous scenery and interesting cultural and natural history less than thirty minutes from Salt Lake City. Why don't more people come here? For nine dollars, you get a single-day vehicle entry. You pay for an entire car, whether it's just one person or as many wives, sons, and daughters as you can fit in the cargo van.
First you drive across a seven-mile causeway, which serves as a nice introduction to the scenery on/of the island. Then you should spend some time in the visitor center, which will tell you a ton about the geological and biological history of the island and the lake. Then, there's not much else to do but drive to the limited portions of the island accessible by car, get out, and enjoy the views. One great spot is atop Buffalo Point. You can drive halfway up to where there's a restaurant and gift shop, but taking a strenuous ten-minute hike to the very top is worth your time and effort.
This park has campgrounds and hiking trails and a sand beach and the Fielding Garr Ranch historical site, but really its main strength is just the scenery. And it's so QUIET out here. It is a great place to spend a couple of hours tromping up and down the hills, occasionally stopping to rest, put your back against a rocky outcropping, and read a book or enjoy the vistas. There is plenty of wildlife for which to look out, such as bald eagles, bison, and the eponymous antelope.
The park is open until 30 minutes after sunset, although the visitor center, ranch, and Buffalo Point facility all close at 5 pm. If you live around here, you have no excuse not to stop by and check it out; if you are visiting the SLC area and have some free time, I highly recommend coming up to Antelope Island to see some nature.
I like Antelope Island State Park! On a road/bus trip, one morning I woke up & here we were. It was very peaceful, quiet, and pretty. We had us some breakfast & then headed into the water which was mild but not freezing. Showers were nearby, & I think our visit was too short!!
You know the feeling, when you descend in an airplane and
gaze out of the window, you see that things are speeding up
and that the pace of time quickens the closer you get to earth?
A trip to Antelope Island State Park illicits just the opposite effect.
The gift you receive after you cross the seven-mile causeway over
the salt flats and land on the island: An antidote for time ...
T i c k . . .
Ease off the gas to 30 per, salty air, mud flats,
watch out for buffalo, curvy roads, follow the signs.

Buffalo grazing in the field, herd crossing the
road, tourists snap pictures, white sands loom.

Fairy peak, sun-burnt rock, look across towards
Salt Lake, now small, toy-like, apparition on horizon.

Striations, boulders, cracks, pebbles, glacier-
scoured peaks, evidence of time locked in stone.

Visitor center high, twisty trail climbs to top. Massive
rocks stand sentinel, breathtaking, White Rock Bay.

Look west and inward to a quiet desolation, lack of
civilization, glistening waters, tiny ripples, endless day.
T i c k . . .
Gaze into nature's heart, undisturbed eternities, all-
knowing, ageless wisdom, uncaring of your presence.
T i c k ...
Breathe in the landscape, upturned, scarred, barren,
craggy, shelves of ancient rock both strange and beautiful.
T i c k . . .
Explore evidences of an antediluvian age, world of water,
aggregate rock, high atop, purple quartz, crazy stones.
T i c k . . .
Flock of seagulls, dips and turn, floating on luxuriant
pools, unfolding for miles, exuding waveless calm.
T i c k . . .
Mountain peaks, stone from water, rise from the mist,
a lake of salt, sun-dried, unclothed, uninhabited.
T i c k . . .
Serenity abounds, pure lack of sound, wildlife hidden,
bird flies into rock, unseen life, hints a secret world.

The sun arcs, drops, another note heard in a millennial
song, as the antelope run, on the island named for them.

I recently spent a long weekend in Salt Lake City and decided to go on a solo adventure around the area. I had no idea what Antelope Island was just knew that it was located in the Great Salt Lake of Utah.
It can be reached by boat or by car. If you drive you have to go across this long causeway and the day fee was $9. One star off for that one. The island itself is great just make sure that you bring food with you as there is only one place to eat and the food was expensive and looked not so great. There are beaches and bison and tons of other wildlife. You learn about the history of the area and the fact that all of Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas used to underwater. If you like to nerd it out this is the place to go.
Was very happy that I went but I doubt this would be a place that I would visit again. Beautiful but hot. The air crossing the causeway was a bit "strong." Most areas are in direct sunlight so it really is a place to hang out on the beach for the day and then come home. Worth a visit though. Definitely worth the visit if you haven't been.
One of the nicest places you can ever visit in Utah....as long as the weather allows you to do so. That's a funny thing about Utah, the weather can change from one hour to the next. One minute the sun's shining the next thing you know its snowing blizzard style.
Back to the park....So beautiful, so large, and a great place to meditate. It's $9 to get in and you get to drive around the island. You can bike, camp, picnic, sunbathe, or watch the Bison roam the countryside. You can actually walk up to them or at least stand close to them. My friend and I were literally a few feet from a HUGE bison. The bison never moved, it just stood there eating and watching us act like dorks because we've never been next to an animal that huge.
So act like a dork and go take a picture with a bison, climb the salt rocks, drive around, or visit their museum. Enjoy the silence!

Wow. Nature. At its best.
Vacationing in Utah was just awesome because the landscape was something that I had never seen or experienced before. The gorgeous mountains everywhere were just astonishing. I wanted to go to a state park and since Arches and Zion etc... were all 3 or more hours away from Provo, we settled on Antelope Island. Unfortunately, our day started late and we stopped in Salt Lake so we didn't get there until almost 5pm. An hour before closing. So my review probably doesn't do the park justice, but I will comment on what we did see in the hour that we were there.
For a small fee of $9 you can entrance to the park. salt flats and Salt Lake are extremely fascinating. There are huge white chunks of salt that crown the shore of the lake. The water is so blue and crystal that you can see the reflection of the mountains in the water. Absolutely stunning. The snow capped mountains frame the lake, but also green hills and mountains. Rocky outcrops also create a gorgeous scene. As I was outside my car taking pictures some people on bikes told us that up ahead were tons of bison. I was excited and we drove on. Very soon I saw one lone bison laying on the grass near the salt flats. I thought "hmmm... I thought she said there would be a lot bison?" On we drove taking pictures of the mountains and landscape until we saw up ahead TONS of bison on the horizon. All of a sudden they all decided to cross the street. The herd ran across the street. There were tons of babies with them and the scene was like nothing I have seen. I tried to get as close as possible to take pics.
I so wish I had more time here and if I ever come back I will stay much longer. They have many many options of things to do here.
One drawback is while I was outside the car taking pictures I got bit a lot by some bugs. I had quite a few bites and had to put the hood of my jacket on. So, at that time roaming around outside wasn't much of an option. But driving through with your car is great.
Definitely a highlight of my trip to Utah!
