good vet.
however one thing bothered me recently.... I dropped my pets off for a few days of boarding. Each had a harness on, but when I picked them up...one of my dogs had open wounds & cut marks around his neck (from where their plastic leash must've been) they told me that they never used the harness that I had on them when dropped off.
I never board my pets (but I had to for this situation) and now I will never again. My pets were traumatized. It took my dog two weeks to recover & heal his neck wounds completely (which I believe was created by them pulling him back when they walked him) I was very let down because I trusted them completely but never again.
Love love love this place. They are so easy. Whenever my baby (dog) needs anything they are able to see him. Appointments are easily available and not always needed if it's for a quick shot. The vet made me feel like I'm not an over protective lunatic when I asked questions. He spent time explaining his answers to me. I really appreciate the vets and other employees there.
This is only based on my initial visit here but so far so good. I brought my new little (canine) girl, Bella, in to get checked out and get stocked on heartworm and flea meds. I was a little put off when I first arrived because I had a mug of coffee in one hand, a dog on a leash in the other hand, a stack of paperwork to be filled out (OK, a sheet of paperwork but, whatever) and none of the other waiting pet owners would move their asses over to make space for me to sit on a bench, not even when I was setting my coffee on the floor and leaning against a wall just so I could fill out the paperwork. Finally one of them left and I got to sit and of course everyone that was still there loved my sweet dog and I am sure they felt really bad at this point for making me stand.
Anyway, they called us into the room but before we went in, we had to stop to weigh Bella on the giant scale in the waiting room. Bella was fine with this but, if it was me, I would have firmly declined being weighed in front of all these other people/animals. And then, they just announced her weight out loud for everyone to hear. Like I said, she was fine but I was actually a little uncomfortable for her, of course projecting my deeply ingrained human insecurities onto my innocent and not-at-all self-conscious dog. Fortunately (for me), her weight was quite normal - she might even be a bit too thin.
Now, the stuff that matters. The assistant who checked Bella out first was very nice, took excellent notes about the things I told her, was gentle with Bella when examining her, taking her temp, etc., and was easy to talk to. Her vet (Dr. Squires) was also very nice and friendly. He was great about checking out the few things I had concerns about, was very gentle, explained things to me very well, and got her all set up with meds. He recommended an x-ray for her back leg (one of my concerns) but was very upfront about the cost and explained how urgent it seemed and what his level of concern was. I left with a good piece of mind.
When I checked out, I (of course) had to pay for the meds but was thrilled to see that there was no cost for the initial exam. Granted, Bella didn't need any shots or anything, but they still spent a good amount of time with her and I fully expected to pay for this. The lady at the counter said that it was because the vets do their jobs here because they really just love animals. Awww...
When it was time to go, Bella executed her normal flop-over-and-lay-down move that she does when she doesn't want to leave a place so I guess that it gets high marks from her, too. So, there you have it: we both recommend the Ansley Animal Clinic.
Dr. Woody is my hero.
We love our dogs. They are a part of our family. Dr. Woody and his team of caring professionals have helped us raise four dogs over the course of the last 20 years. They've also grieved with us when it was time for us to help those wonderful animals move on.
We are empty nesters; now, but someday (soon, we hope!) a homeless, sweet animal will find its way into our lives, and Dr. Woody will once again take his place on our team.
Five stars, in my world, are reserved for businesses who are simply unchallenged in their field. This is one such organization.
My doggie of 11 years died on Monday and I felt I really needed to write this review. I've been traveling for about 3 weeks and a good friend had been taking care of him while I was gone. I felt pretty helpless about the situation since I was in another state as my dog was declining in health and so immediately it seemed. As I'm calling around Atlanta from New York trying to find someplace to get him seen (apparently the days after the 4th of July weekend are VERY busy) we finally got him into the Clinic.
I received a call about an hour later letting me know his condition and the subsequent recommendation. Now I've never actually been into the clinic myself, but the call I received from Dr. Phelps was so amazing. He outlined the problem in every detail at least twice (they believed it was cancer at a really advanced stage) and reassured me in every way possible that it was the best thing to put him down. Dr. Phelps took the phone into a private corner so that he could speak with me and listened to all of my questions (a few times over). I was so confident and thankful about the care I know my dog received that I will recommend this clinic highly over and over. After looking at some of the other reviews I can see that my experience is shared which makes me feel even better.
Even in a sad situation such as this, it helped to know that my doggie was in the best hands possible with people who make it their priority to deliver the best service possible. I can't thank them enough for their time and service.
We love our pets! There part of the family right??? So, give them the BEST care as you would give yourself...visit Ansley for your loved one!
The great part about Ansley Animal Clinic that I just adored...you get to choose your own doctors out of their team of doctors....the BEST yet....
Tekno's doctor kisses him like I do....hahahaha...therefore we feel the love in the room.
Tekno loves it here! Take your baby to Ansley...
Ansley Animal Clinic is the BEST place to take your pets to see the vet! We have been taking our dogs here for about 4 years now and enjoy the great customer service and the pet friendly atmosphere. All of the doctors are great and I like that they kept the 70's look of the building...both interior and exterior. The best part is talking to the other pet owners and meeting their pets. Everyone is so friendly! I also enjoy the two community boards they set up. One is strictly for pet adoptions and the other are for pictures of new patients!
Previous to Ansley Animal Clinic, we went to Pets Are People Too and had such an awful experience there. Our first baby, Braun; does not like having his nails cut and when I stopped by to get a nail trim for him, the rude assistant told me that Braun was crazy and needed 3 people to hold him down, needs training and we should never bring him there again. Braun was only about a year old when this happened and they brought him to me in a muzzle! I was in shock and gave her my two cents and never went back! When Ansley Animal Clinic or even Petsmart trims his nails, he is so calm...makes me wonder with they did to him!
So if you have a new furry family member or are looking for a great vet, check out Ansley Animal Clinic! The definitely deserve more than 5 stars and its great to see everyone else rate them so high as well!
Because I adopted a stray, 1-month-old kitten in the spring, I have been to Ansley Animal Clinic four times over the past 3 months--and can say I feel fortunate that this vet is located so near my home.
Three different vets have checked out MacGyver, my stripey gray tabby kitty, and administered his booster shots. All of the vets have been great: doctors Hayes, Cannon and Brower, all females. Dr. Hayes has several cats of her own and is wonderfully eccentric--she even gives her cat-owning clients handmade toys that dangle on a string. MacGyver loved his turquoise ball so much, that it is now lost, tucked somewhere in his world of play... Dr. Cannon is extremely young yet down with the cat care trends. She even clipped MacGyver's nails for me. And Dr. Brower is pretty awesome: she flushed all the dead ear mites out of my furball's ears, demonstrating how to massage the gunk from his earlobes, and then swipe away the waste.
The vet technician Shera is fantastic; she has consistently praised MacGyver's unique markings and lean physique, and makes me feel good about my handsome feline.
While the vets themselves--and Shera!--have left me impressed, the staff makes consistent mistakes:
1. plunging something up MacGyver's anus to try to garner fecal matter, even though I brought in a doo-doo sample--and the staff member failed to deliver it to the person responsible for the fecal exam
2. telling me on the phone that MacGyver was old enough for flea treatment, and that I could come pick it up--and then refusing to give it to me upon my arrival, claiming he was too young
3. charging me for a fecal exam, when it wasn't performed during that particular appointment
4. making an appointment for MacGyver and giving me an appointment card with that slot written in ink--and then the appointment didn't get recorded in the computer
Overall, despite all the above, I am pleased with Ansley Animal Clinic, since the actual vets taking care of my precious fluff-puff obviously adore animals, love what they do and want to provide high-quality petcare.
I feel confident that MacGyver's upcoming neutering will go well...
Dr. Woody is one of the finest vets that I've ever taken my dog to. I've since moved from Atlanta, but have yet to find a vet on the west coast that compares to him. He's very friendly, always remembers my dog and his past health issues, doesn't push unnecessary expensive testing. Plus, he's a fine bluegrass musician!
When my dog came down with a mystery illness that no one could diagnose (I saw 4 vets in the Atlanta area), Dr. Woody recommended I immediately take him to UGA to be tested by a specialist. The other vets told me just to "monitor" my dog and give him antibiotics. Turns out my dog had a toxic blood infection, and could have died had we not taken him to UGA.
The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and I love that every year, they put up a holiday tree with various photos of present and former clients. They have a photo of my weim on Santa's lap when he was just a pup (he's now 12 years old).
Highly recommended. Dr. Phelps is great too.
Ansley has been my vet for over 20 years and they are the absolute best. They've seen me through 6 cats and two dogs. I've always gotten honest and thoughtful answers to my questions and concerns. They care for the 4-legged and 2-legged members of the family ... over the years they have educated, reassured, comforted and consoled me. I wouldn't trust any other clinic with my pets.
My pal, Taco Grande Ignacio Fundido (TGIF), is the luckiest Min Pin to have the hottest vet ever (Dr. Cannon) to take care of him. Only if I was a dog...I know I will be in my next life!
Great staff, service and care. Woof!
I took my cat here to have him neutered. When I took him home from his surgery, it looked like his, pardon my term, netherbits were falling out. I cannot describe this without sounding gross, but it looked like he was not sewn up properly, and it actually scared me quite a bit. I took my kitty back and they gave me some cream for him, and soon after that the netherbits cleared up. I can't really say I understand what happened, they seemed to think that my cat had licked at it too much, but I noticed that it looked bad right when I got him home - I don't think he had the time to rip his own jewels out in the car ride home.
Anyway, this clinic has pretty high marks from the rest of the group; I'm willing to believe this was an isolated incident with my pet. But it scared me enough not to take him back there. In their defense they saved my roomate's cat's life, and that gets them from 1 star to 2.
I chose this vet for our new kitten based on the reviews and was glad that I did. Everyone was super friendly and I had a long chat with Dr. Woody about taking care of our new pet, how vets have changed their opinions on feeding cats over the last ten years, etc. The visit was quick and the kitten didn't seem to mind too much.
Since this is my first pet (not including a couple suicidal betta fish) since I was a kid, I really had no vets in mind when we adopted last week. Thankfully, Yelp to the rescue.
Everyone here is great. They care about our animals and love on them like we do. I've been going there for years and everyone is really great.
All of the doctors there are first-rate. Dr. Brower is especially sweet, funny and just a little goofy. I feel she understands my black lab because they clearly come from the same universe.
As my profile says: I am a long-time leech from Yelp. My experience today with Ansley has prompted this, my first review on Yelp!
I will be leaving Atlanta soon, moving to Austin. I have been able to make peace with all aspects of the move, expect for this... I am going to terribly miss Ansley Animal Clinic. My girlfriend and I found Ansley Animal Clinic about 2.5 years ago, soon after we got our new cat Grace from the Atlanta Humane Society. From the first day we took her in until today, they have done nothing but provide superior customer service to us and Grace (our cat).
Case and point: Last time that we took Grace in for shots, she had a bad reaction that left her seriously weak and sick. By the next morning, she was looking and acting so bad that we were seriously fearful for her life. We called Ansley immediately and they had us bring her over. Right away, they took Grace to the back for analysis. After a Benadryl shot, administering plenty 'liquids' and hours of medical attention, I figured that there might be a decent-sized bill (which I was very ready to pay, considering all that they had done). However, when we went to "settle up"... there were no charges (other than the original bill for the shots)!!
Well, that experience was enough to make me a customer for life (as long as life is in Atlanta)! So, fast forward to yesterday when my (now) fiance and I took Grace in for her yearly shots. When we were called back, the doctor looked through the charts and saw the note about Grace's reaction last time to the shots. She explained that they typically try to have pets that have reactions come in during the morning so that they can monitor them. The thinking being that if the pet has another reaction the night afterward, it will cost us owners a lot of money to take our pet to the emergency vet. She did the full exam that afternoon, but asked us to bring Grace back in the morning for the shots and for monitoring. This morning we dropped her off at 8:30 am and picked her up by 5:00 pm. Thanks to the pre-administered Benadryl and their care, Grace is doing purr-fectly fine... sitting next to me on my desk right now.
The cost for the exam, distemper shot, Benadryl, and some Acepromazine (calming medication for Grace if needed for our drive to Austin): $43. A damn good deal if you ask me!
Some other notes: we have seen 3 doctors during our time there, but I do not think that it is due to turnover. I think that they had a cat doctor that was out for a while for personal reasons. Every person that we have worked with at Ansley has been very polite, professional and either knowledgeable or knew to whom to defer the question. They really do seem to care about their patients, not just making a buck off of us owners! However, due to their popularity, I would not ever try to walk in (like the 3/17 reviewer did)... Just make an appointment, they are usually free within a week or two. Even if you do walk in, Ansley is worth the wait. The people and animals sharing the waiting room are usually friendly enough that the time will fly by.
In closing, since we are moving to Austin, PLEASE take our 'spot' at Ansley Animal Clinic! You will not regret that decision!
I want to also give a shout-out to Dr. Phelps for taking care of my 16 year old cat, Mr. Maggie (in one of my pictures.) Maggie's been with me since high school, and I can't bare to see myself coming home when he's not there. But age, of course, catches up to all of us. Mr. Maggie is on his last legs, and the doctors here have been great. The lab results come back quickly and the doctors personally call when they say they're going to call. They even give me free samples every now and then on all the special food and medicine I have to buy. The vets here really do care. And the clinic mascot, a black and white cat, is too cute. He seems to sit at the front counter and greet everyone.
All my dogs have been taken here for as long as I can remember, and I have always had a good experience. Very highly recommended, these guys are the best - Dr Woody, Dr Brower, and all the gang make a trip the vet pleasant for me and my dogs. Thanks guys!
I don't know if it was an off day, or if I'm just accustomed to my old vet, but I was not terribly impressed with Ansley. I called to make an appointment to get Lady's glands expressed, and the receptionist told me that I could come any time between 9 and 11 on Saturday to get it done. I got there at 9:15 and went to the desk, only to be told at first that I needed to make an appointment. I told the woman there that I had been told an appointment wasn't necessary, and she sighed and handed me a clipboard to fill out paperwork. When I was done at took it back to her, she took it and said "We'll get to you." I waited for 45 minutes until I was the only who had not been helped. Finally, an assistant called my name. I asked if I could go back and explained that my dog was abused and gets very nervous around strangers, but he refused (although politely) and proceeded to slide my dog into the back. He was back quick enough, but she was shaking from head to toe and nearly took out a couple of people who were unfortunate enough to be standing by the door. I was also dismayed to hear that anal gland expression is $26.00. I hate to keep harping on how things are more expensive in Atlanta (and I'm sure you guys are thinking, "Duh, you country bumpkin"), but that seemed a little steep. I'll definitely be calling around and trying out other vets next time. I just didn't get the friendly family atmosphere that I was expecting from all the other reviews.
Dr. Phelps rocks (even if he did graduate from Auburn-Roll Tide Roll). I recently took our 4-month old Bengal kitten in for a new kitten visit and he was great and spent a lot of time with us. It had been years since I had a kitten so I had a lot of questions. I didn't feel rushed at all and he was very laid back with our kitten. We even got a cool kitten goody bag too :-) I like the overall general "feel" of the staff there. Everyone seems to truly enjoy animals and what they do-and that's good for us!
The staff at Ansley Animal are great. They've been so helpful in taking care of my dogs. Their vets are attentive and the techs are so wonderful, even when my dog has a fit when getting her nails trimmed. Dr. Woody and Dr. Brower are very cool. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who loves their pet!
My animals go to Ansley because the vets are knowledgeable and compassionate. I first went to Ansley about 5 years ago when my then kitten was very sick. I had taken him to Pets are People too and they kept running tests and gave me meds but he wasn't getting much better. I finally realized I was getting milked so I took him to Ansley and immediately saw a difference in the level of care. Believe it or not my dog even loves going to Ansley. I have highly recommended this vet to my friends and now to you.
I really like Ansley Animal Clinic. We have taken our cats and dogs there for years. The staff is friendly and very accomodating with appointments. All of the doctors are great. They will spend time discussing your concerns and any questions you have. I moved to far away to drag my animals there anymore, but I will miss the place.
the vets are super knowledgeable and there are a couple on staff so there's always someone avaliable to help you in case your pup has an emergency.
