There's nothing like the REAL thing. They just don't make furniture like they used to. Sure, you might be able to buy "style" at places like Design Within Reach, but look closely at the details and mostly what you'll find is carelessness, or even worse, a lack of experience at the craft of furniture making. Charles Eames said, "The details are not the details. They make the design."
At "Another Time" you'll find mid-century modern furniture, including Heywood Wakefield, vintage 60's teak and art deco furniture, as well as art objects.... all at a fraction of the price you'll find elsewhere. Pam, the quite knowledgeable and friendly owner, sometimes will even offer a discount to the already reasonable prices. PLUS she throws in delivery for free!! (in the San Francisco area). How's that for customer service in a do it yourself world?!
Not only is the merchandise from "another time", so are the prices, the manners, and the customer service.
This store is a treasure trove of mid-century delights. I've been looking over a year for the perfect bar cart. I was intrigued by the gorgeous Eames Lounge Chair in the window and wandered inside to get a closer look. Pam, the owner of "Another Time" came over and had a great chat about furniture and decorating. I told her that I wanted a bar cart but that I hadn't found anything. She showed me the most gorgeous Danish Modern teak bar, with which I fell instantly in love. She was delightful to deal with, interested in my design aesthetic, and even provided free delivery. Sure, there are phenomenal pieces in the Art Deco Collection down the street, but why pay 2x-5x the price of gorgeous pieces at Another Time? (And Hell, why go to Design Within Reach for official repros when you can have the real thing?)
Good eye for mid-century modern. Heywood-Wakefield yes, and some other makers that are coming into their own. Free delivery, hard to believe but yes!
Lovely mid-century furniture at reasonable prices. The owner, Pam, carefully selects only the best pieces and refinishes them beautifully. She also went way out of her way to help me find the right dining table. I will definitely come back when I need more furniture!
After three trips in one week to this lovely store I bought a beautiful modern Danish rose credenza. I love it and I am very happy with my purchase.
Pam is very knowledgeable, friendly and patient. The store is full of gorgeous pieces and the prices are some of the best in the city. Pam also offers free delivery, what more can one say.
I have bought a number of pieces from Another Time and I couldn't be happier. The quality is outstanding, the store is really enjoyable to browse and the owners are very nice people who deeply care about people being happy with their purchase. Highly recommend!
we bought a number of heywoodwakefield pieces from another time over the years. pam the owner, is very knowledgeable about her wares and is very helpful with questions and assisting you in making the right decision. her partner is very good at refinishing many older pieces and they look great when redone. why buy new when you can buy beautiful midcentury pieces from "another time". i would consider this a tasteful way to "recycle and reuse". ;-)
Who shops here? It is strangely empty with beautiful furnishings in the window when I go by.
I dropped in last week and wanted to furnish my entire house, alas, I did not win the lottery this week.
A grab bag of goodies, mostly from the 40s and 50s. Given the quality of the merchandise, prices tend to be on the high side. Just one of a number of similar shops along this stretch of Market.
