    ahh! I don't know why I haven't came here. But I'm glad I did!

They have such friend staff, the waitress, wasn't serving us but was extremely sweet and made sure that we were served and had take out menus before we left. They do free delivery! No minimum!

But anyways. My friend had the chicken salad sandwich on rye. Coleslaw was very good. I had the waffle with banana, vanilla ice cream and switched the whipped cream to fudge. Great waffle! And I'm super excited that it's so close by home!

Well haven't been here in awhile, so I stopped by for breakfast. As I previewed the menu i saw pancakes .

So the Blueberry Pancakes was my choice with some bacon and sausage. Yes bacon and sausage, I was in the mood for some meat.

The ambiance was relaxing and its wonderful to listen to 1010 WINS in the morning. Pancakes and pork as i listen to stories of police officer having sex on the job with his mistress. Wow being married with children wasn't enough, but imagine on the job wasting tax payer dollars.

This kind of juicy news makes me hungry for more pork and pancakes. Well not really, its no wonder why i don't read newspapers anymore. Ooh back to the food.

Well the pancakes were very good and sizable. Plus there was a bottomless supply of coffee. Shit, too much caffeine is not too good. Its very addicting and the rush. Glad i stopped after 3 cups plus they are not really big cups.

Overall its was quite satisfying and the service was prompt.

OK this place gets a fourth star for decor.  How friggin adorable!  It really is like an old time ice cream parlor.  Check out the wood built ins with the clock on top.  Classic!

The food was good.  I had a turkey pepper and onion egg wrap, lots of onions and peppers which I personally like.  The home fries..ok.  The coffee? Standard diner coffee.  The blueberry pancakes good but the sausages seemed like the frozen link kind.

I'd come back for the friendly neighborhood service and the cute ambiance.

We stopped by for a quick bite.  We were in the mood for typical diner affair.  Service was good.  Although, the manager kept on barking about how woeful the Mets were playing.

Food was okay, not great.  Maybe I ordered the wrong thing.  I would come back for the ice cream, but that's about it.  Have dinner elsewhere, but definitely come here for a scoop.

The first thing that comes to mind when I enter Anopoli is this Back to the Future scene:

Lou: You gonna order something, kid?
Marty McFly: Ah, yeah... Give me - Give me a Tab.
Lou: Tab? I can't give you a tab unless you order something.
Marty McFly: All right, give me a Pepsi Free.
Lou: You want a Pepsi, PAL, you're gonna pay for it.

                               _____

Anopli reminds me of life in the good old days when a reuben only cost a quarter. Inside you will find a combination of old school diner + ice cream parlor. The creamy ice cream aroma will blanket you the moment you walk in the door.

The menu is affordable and the service is fast. Watching four guys navigate around one grill is dizzying. Don't stare too long or you may get grossed out watching that weird carrot salad getting slopped on top of an orange slice for the breakfast plates.  My breakfast was just okay. The French toast needed more time on the grill.

I'm not worried about business here; they are doing just fine. There was a constant flow of people, but never a wait. Although my eating experience wasn't something to rave about, I would be thrilled to have a place like this on my block. I'll be back. Note to self:  bring cash next time.

This place brings the quintessential diner experience.  Everything is exactly what you would expect from the typical old coffee shop or diner that now seems difficult to find.  The food is good, ice cream is solid, and the belgian waffles are just what you would expect: buttery and delicious.  Nothing here is gourmet, but that's not what you came for, is it?  Just what you want and expect.  Next time I am in Bay Ridge, I will not hesitate to drop in.

Still a fan of this place.
Love me a large plate of good food for a cheap price.
Gosh, I really need to make room for dessert. Definitely want to try the apple pie a la mode plus a few scoops of ice cream on the side.
Easily accessible from the bus and subway station so it's a go-to spot for a large portion of food with a small cost to the wallet.

This is a great diner to come for breakfast-I ordered a waffle and it was made fresh right on the waffle iron and served quickly and still warm.

The soups are homemade and so are the ice creams.

The restaurant has a pleasant old-world ice cream shop feel with a counter with swivel seats and old-fashioned ice cream shop decor.

The owner is an older greek guy that keeps a close eye on his restaurant so the food comes out consistently good.

    The service was superb!!!

My husband, cousin and brother were craving waffles. We were driving down 3rd Ave looking for diners listed on my Yelp app when I saw Anopoli. My brother went in and asked if they were serving waffles (it was past 4 pm). The guy who answered, in a very friendly manner, said they serve waffles all day long and however we wanted it! We sat down and looked at the menu and just ordered from what we saw. When the order reached the owner's hand he said "boo, you guys are boring." We laughed and asked why, we just ordered from what was on the menu, and he said we should add more stuff to it, make his job fun. So we told him he was free to surprise us, and what a surprise! It was delicious!

The waffles were chewy but crispy, the ice cream, which is made by them, was perfect (creamy, not too sweet) and fresh fruit all over... I want to go again tomorrow!!!

You know what makes a good diner? It's not the food as much as it is the dining experience. When someone who has never seen you before can serve you like you're a regular, that says a lot about the place.

I had a cappuccino milkshake, and it was really rich and creamy. Not so heavy that you can't drink it with a straw, but not too thin either. One of the best milkshakes I've had in a long time, to be honest.

After that, I had a grilled steak sandwich with mozzarella, and some fries. The cook came out to tell me he accidentally put mozzarella on the fries, and he wanted to know if I wanted a fresh batch without cheese. "But it's no charge if you want the cheese", he says. How about that? So I take the cheese and it was all delicious.

It turns out the guy was the owner's son. He stopped by our table and talked about the neighborhood, sports, places to get a drink...it wasn't just standard small talk, he was really making good conversation.

If I wasn't so full from the dinner and shake, I would have gotten some of the ice cream that they're known for. Judging by the shake, I would have been impressed.

Get out here and try Anopoli. Get full, have a conversation, have a great time.

I'm definitely going to come back and do another review once I try their food. I actually came by to try their famous ice cream...and found a beautiful restaurant inside. There were booths piled with people and delicious looking food and despite the worn old-fashioned exterior it was a rejuvenated convival family-style inside. I would've loved to do brunch here!

The homemade ice cream was no joke. I randomly tried the strawberry one and it was as good as promised - creamy and natural without being overly sweet. I bet the vanilla and chocolate flavors would taste just as great. There is just something about homemade ice cream...maybe the lack of artificial preservatives? And they sell them by half pint, pint and quarter in this plastic containers!!! They don't even have tiny plastic spoons for you to try, only real metal ones!

Anapoli surprised me big time - I've passed by it a gazillion times and never gave it a second thought. This will be my next dining destination in Bay Ridge!

Dropped by this spot while visiting a friend in Bay Ridge. We wanted to stay local, and she suggested Anopoli. Its a nice little old school "ice cream shop." They make their own ice cream, but its also much like a diner. The vibe is very "Greek family" in there and its not a bad size.

I think once we all sat down we all realized we all had a craving for gyros. My friend got a gyro, my fiance the chicken gyro platter, and I got the gyro platter. The chicken gyro was very dry. The meat wasn't too appetizing and the rest of the components were just okay. The regular gyros were much better. A bit juicier and flavorful. The components were the same as the chicken gyro other than the meat. I liked their fries. Simple, crisp and good. Not oversalted or anything.

We ordered two desserts: the apple cobbler with vanilla fudge and the brownie sundae. Both were very good. We enjoyed their homemade ice cream very much. They weren't too sweet, and went with the different dishes really well.

I'd definitely hit this place up if we were in the area. I kinda wish I ordered some waffles, as they looked especially good there when we were heading out.

It really takes a lot for me to give a place a 1-star.  My girlfriend and I rolled in on a Friday night around 730pm.  Place was practically empty but it took 10-15 minutes for us to get someone over to us to see if we wanted a drink or if we were ready to order.  The waiter barely more than grunted to us.  All we wanted was their supposedly awesome homemade ice cream.  We both ordered the 'sundae.'  What we got was two scoops of ice cream in a metal bowl.  The guy who wore an apron with another company's logo was too busy standing in front of the silverware counter eating the free soup saltine crackers to do much else.  It was awesomely bad and we contemplated walking out before someone even came over to help us.

I have to chalk it up to a bad day considering the amazing ratings, but it was terrible enough for us to never go back.

Hectic, small, ole-fashioned. The door situation at the front is awful, posing a challenge to me and a near-injurious experience for an elderly fellow just tryna score some soup a few minutes later. I went with a half-pint* (odd quantities rule the roost here) for $2.70+ from the had-enough youngster helping me out (I discovered the $2.50 cone option after he'd already placed my purchase in a paper bag and then misplaced it). The pistachio was studded with a generous amount of real, full, shelled pistachios, so you know it's at least decent. It turned out pretty good, boasting a nice creamy texture  devoid of that artificial lingering taste of manufactured gook. *IMO, the half-pint is a healthy indulgence, albeit one of someone who downs a pint at will.

When this diner opened they renovated the front of the store and discovered a beautiful stained glass window over the front door.  The owner of this small diner is greek and is very hands on.  He comes from the old school where making breakfast, lunch and dinner is half way between an art and tasty food.   Our family frequents for breakfast.  The waitress is always familiar with our order being creatures of habit.  Tea is free.

This is a small diner with only maybe 25 tables.  Most of the time you will find a seat right off.  The price is easy for breakfast.   It is one of the best Bayridge breakfast places.  Really family and really good.

I love this place. An old-timey diner complete with counter and twirley bar stools. Extensive menu, and everything I've had has been WONDERFUL. A favorite: Chicken Caesar Wrap (of course :-p) Great prices, great staff.

Just found out today they have a back patio. Been here a dozen times and never knew that.

Also, this may sound odd, but their pickles are to die for. I very rarely like pickles. You could say im a picky-pickle-picker. When I come here, I ask for a side of pickles. That's how good they are.

They have a large menu of pretty typical diner fare. It's also an ice cream parlor and the root beer floats are AMAZING!

Some samples: Any omlette you could dream up; BLT; Meatloaf sandwich; Reuben; Club sandwiches; Roast Turkey or Brisket; Gyros; Chicken Souvlaki; Turkey Burger; Broiled Pork Chops...and they make their own ice cream!

Everything is extremely reasonable, pricewise.  The veggie burger was really good, but the root beer float is definitely the best!

There is also an outdoor garden cafe (May - November)...but the authentic look of the actual restaurant is absolutely charming.

Every once in awhile I enjoy some eggs with corned beef hash.  I picked some up today and I seemed to be chewing on numerous bone pieces in the hash.  I also bought some clam chowder for later on.  They seem to have ceased putting the clams in the clam chowder - I add my own.  The food quality seems to be on a slow decline.  Hopefully, they'll correct this going forward.

Want to go back to simpler times? Enjoy good food and relax? Forget that you're living in a hectic and fast paced city? Well drop on by to Anopoli and bring your friends or family! The Ice Cream Parlor has a plethora of delicious ice cream flavors to choose from-- special ones include pistachio and maple syrup and walnut. There's also sherbets and ice cream floats with old school sodas-- like the Boylan kind. Ask for a scoop and you'll get a big bowlful, mmm. Frosty delight!

I've only been to this place after work, so for dinner, I've sample their cheese fries (it's french fries with a slice of american cheese melted on top), their philly-cheese-steak sandwich, and bison burger. Their soups are home made-- try the chicken noodle, it's definitely not from a can. One of their best, best dishes is their spinach pie with feta cheese. Wow.

So if you're in Bay Ridge and don't want to be blitzed out at the bars and just spend some nice time eating, step into Anopoli!

NYC is filled with over-priced restaurants posing as "diners".  They have their place and if you want fancy brunches and dinners, they would be the much better option.  For me, a diner must have 3 things going for it...

    1.)  Be inexpensive

2.)  Do an awesome basic breakfast (eggs, corned beef hash, pancakes, etc)

3.)  Be unpretentious (which NYC is much too often)

Here is how Anapoli does on my test....

1.)  On a Sunday morning, my girlfriend and I had the following:  Her-
Pancakes, side of toast, coffee, oj.  Me- 3 eggs, corned beef hash, french fries, side of toast, coffee, oj.  Price:  UNDER 10 BUCKS.  I'm sorry, but even if I go to Emphasis (the other popular diner in the area), that's over 14-15 dollars.  Pretty big difference for a diner.

2.)  Diner breakfasts are supposed to taste like they came off an industrial grill-top stove.  Hot, buttery and delicious.  Everything is.  My one caveat will be their french toast, which they do with regular white bread (not Challah, which I prefer).  For the price it's perfect and (and this is important) you can watch them make it as the grill is not hidden behind a while.  So you can practically see the process the entire way.

3.)  This place is old, authentic, and has a wonderful mixed clientele.  Unfortunately Bay Ridge is getting it's initial influx of hipsters so this might change soon, but for now it's an incredibly diverse mix of ages and races with a decidedly working class feel.  That's what I want in a diner.

It's rare to find a business that actually gives you MORE than you pay for.  It's even rarer to find one that can afford to it while family owned and neighborhood friendly.  These kinds of places deserve to be supported by the community.  Please make a trip.

7/14/11 UPDATE:  Only after a couple of days after posting this review, I went to Anapoli only to find they repriced their menu.  Still not terribly expensive, and it's still SLIGHTLY cheaper than Emphasis Diner, but it is not really the ridiculous value it had been before.  Still a value, just not as great.  At the same time they also started displaying the "ZAGAT-rated" and "BEST OF" signs prominently on their counter.  I guess they felt pressure to keep up with the Joneses since this area is not close to the gentrified nightmare other parts of the city are.

As a result, I have to downgrade my review from 5-stars to 4.

I love this little diner. It is so homey & cute; I have a soft spot for old school diners.

Been here for breakfast and lunch and every time the food has been great. They make an awesome grilled cheese sandwich and it's cheap, too. An interesting variety of pancakes are offered here, one time the special of the day was apple cinnamon pancakes. Warning - eat all of your meal or you will get a scolding from your waiter, who will be insulted you didn't finish his food! (-:

We opted for booth seating as soon as we walked in but would've been glad to sit at the bar stools overlooking the kitchen action. Being it was our first time we didn't realize that there was outdoor seating, which might have been nice on a cool morning. I ordered a simple 2 eggs with buttered toast, potatoes, coffee and a little shot glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. My husband had the corned beef hash special that came with 2 eggs as well, toast, coffee and juice. We had a great waiter who was not only attentive but friendly and humorous, making sure our coffee cup was full. our bill came out to only $9. With the great service we tipped $4 because our waiter deserved it. We would go back again to try their dinner specials and their famous ice creams and sodas. As for the decor, we like being surrounded by nostalgic old posters and pictures and an old grandfather like clock. Wouldn't change a thing.. well, maybe the bathrooms could be bigger, but how can that be done without major renovation to that area? It's exciting to watch the open kitchen and the people at work.
