Indian by far is one of my all - time favorite foods, and Anokha is one of my favorite restaurants. Hands down.
I have not had a dish here that I haven't liked. Their Naan is absolutely to die for. What I like is that they also suggest you eat in the traditional Indian form.. with your hands. Now note.. EVERYTHING is saucy. Hmmm rice & sauce.. with your hands. ONLY your right hand by the way, you save the other for your glass, napkin, etc. My husband's look of disbelief was priceless. We accepted the offer to try it the traditional way in respect to the culture.
Needless to say, there was lots of bread involved, it worked wonderfully as shovels. It was a great time, but I think next time we use forks. NOTE TO THE GIRLS... the next day I couldn't understand why my fingernails on my right hand were neon yellow. After dinner I had SCRUBBED my hands a few times, but alas, my nails matched my Livestrong band beautifully I must say, but not quite the look I was going for. The spices had stained my nails that color!! I had to bleach them.
Either way though, for a nice night out, its romantic, the food incredible and so far for us the service has been great.

I'm such a foodie and will eat anything (except celery - don't ask). Indian is one of my favorite cuisines (along with sushi and Ethiopian) so I was very excited to find some good reviews about Anokha.
The food was surprisingly good (and I say surprisingly because Washington, D.C. - where I'm from - has some of the best ever Indian restaurants) and their wine selection was even better. This is a bit pricier than I expected (about $12.00 per plate and wine is about $8 a glass). Expect to spend approximately $80 for two people (2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine, a basket of flatbread, and tip).
Their flatbreads are slap-your-granny good! I wanted to order a whole lot more but was already stuffed with my shajahani paneer with basmati rice. Very delicious. My dining partner had a shrimp dish (the name of the dish escapes me right now) and she reported that it was delicious. We plan to bring our husbands next time!
The only negative is parking (if you read my other reviews, you will see that parking is a make or break star for me). The only parking is on-street and you're lucky if you can find a parking meter that works.

Although it has the slowest service of any restaurant I have every been to, the food here is amazing. Almost every Indian restaurant has a section for vegetarian dishes, but this is the only one I've seen that indicates vegan dishes as well. I usually get the eggplant or lentil dishes.
