2 reviews for Ann's Health Food Center & Market
Thanks to Sarah's tip, I made the trip (and I do mean trip) down to Ann's Heath Food Center and Market.
I was on the hunt for bargain vitamins and a good smoothie. The place is large...one half is a market, which is mostly organic. For the non-meaters in Dallas, I know you exist! This place is for you..they have two or three aisles dedicated to vegan and vegeterian fare.
They have a large selection of ethnic foods as well. The other half of the store is dedicated to the vitamin selection and sandwich and smoothie shop. I needed some vitamins and was quickly helped by a friendly associate. She picked me out a few options and I was on my way.
Before leaving, I just had to have a smoothie! It was later afternoon or I would have had a sandwich. The smells were heavenly. They had a vegan sandwich menu too, which it seemed like the tofu bbq sandwich and boca burger were the big favorites. They had a large selection of smoothies, two chalkboards full! Moderately priced..well below Smoothie Factory or Smoothie King. I opted for the Wildberry Smoothie with a shot of wheatgrass. 4.00 for both, which is a steal!
I made it out of there with only a few impulse buys and was really impressed by Ann's. It wasn't THAT much cheaper than Whole Foods or Central Market, but it was a locally owned business with an intellgient and friendly staff, which is two big thumbs up in my book!
I can't believe no one has written a review yet for Ann's Health Food and Market. This place is a gem for health-foodies and the vitamin-obsessed. Apparently, it's been around for years. I now know why.
If you have a free Saturday or Sunday and feeling health-conscious, take a 10-minute drive from downtown Dallas. Go south on 1-35 and you'll see a sign for Ann's on the right. If you keep your eyes out for it, you can't miss it.
It's a large market with a clean parking lot from the outside. Seems a little bit out of place with nothing else much around except for a couple of businesses closed and buildings for lease. Plenty of parking is available,
Once you go inside you are greeted by sales associates and a checkout counter. You immediately notice the market section to the right, a sandwich shop and seating area in the middle, and the vitamin and supplements to the left. This place is somewhere between Whole Foods and Sundrops. For me, Whole Foods gets expensive after a while and Sundrops gives me somewhat of the creeps. (Can't explain it. Maybe because it's slightly claustrophobic or disturbingly quiet every time I go in there.) With Whole Foods, I usually end up with way more than I planned to purchase. (Those dang strategic product displays and pretty packaging! Gets me every time.) But, Ann's Health...well, it just fits right. For my budget, for my taste. And the place was buzzing with all sorts of folks.
They have everything you could think of (or at least everything that I normally buy at Whole Foods or Sundrops). I was able to get my favorite facial cleanser, Synergy Kombucha energy drink, apple cider vinegar, a couple of other foods, and every vitamin supplement I take.
In an attempt to be healthier and kick the ugly caffeine habit, I went to Ann's to find a green tea supplement (yeah, I know there's the tea, but it just doesn't do it for me.) The vitamin aisles became a little overwhelming with all of the choices and brands available. As soon as I about throw in the "supplement towel", a really friendly sales associate came up and asked if she could help with anything. Explaining my dilemma, she asked a couple more questions and then proceeded to explain the differences between available options, and recommended what she considered the best choice. She did not push me to purchase the most expensive brand, but explained her reason for her recommendation. Talk about great customer service!
As I continued my shopping, I noticed that every sales associate was helping a customer. Each one seemed knowledgeable, pleasant, and really cared about their customers and their questions. One of the associates went so far as to indulge in listening to an older gentleman's monologue on the benefits of sulfur. (Trust me, it was quite a monologue. I heard most of it in the 15 minutes I attempted to make a supplement decision on my own.) She didn't seem to mind at all. So refreshing!
As far as pricing, it can't be beat. At least in the Dallas area. Prices are the same, if not cheaper than what I have found elsewhere.
Yep, it is a bit of a drive to get there. But again, take a lazy Saturday or Sunday and go at least once. (It is open 7 days a week.) It's worth trying at least once. Try one of their reasonably-priced soups or sandwiches for lunch, and make it a double-duty errand.
And if you're feeling really lazy that day? They have a drive-thru as well. Talk about convenient health...
