    Best. Burrito. Ever.

Burritos the size of your head that are second to none. My personal fave is the 1/2 chicken 1/2 grilled veggie burrito with everything piled on, including their deliciously indulgent homemade guac! The warm tortillas are perfectly warm and chewy. I used to live down the street from the Harvard Ave. Brookline location and it was consistently, mind-blowingly good.

They also have yummy fresh-squeezed orange juice....random, but it's like sunshine in a plastic glass!

The food at Anna's is remarkably consistent between locations, so I won't add to my comments on the Davis outpost (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Suffice it to say I like those cheesy burritos a whole lot.

Different about Porter: There's parking! The galleria in which Anna's is located has its own parking structure, or use the shopping center lot next door.

This Anna's, like the one in Davis, now accepts credit and debit cards, too.

I'm pretty much addicted to the food here. More specifically, I'm addicted to the bean and rice quesadilla.

As far as addictions are concerned, this is easy on the bank-- a quesadilla and soda costs under $6! And the soda fountain includes a soda water option!

If you're a member of one of the nearby gyms or just have to do son\me shopping, this place is a great way to reward your taste buds on a budget!

Ok, I give in....I like Anna's just like every single person in boston.  It's just the Chicken Ranchero that I have discovered that just gets to me and for the price of 1 it's ridiculous to not be a fan.  When I am craving mexican, need it asap, and don't feel like dishing out dough I head excitedly to Anna's now.  The end.

    One word: Carnitas.

It's really the only reason I come here. Giant chunks of pork braised until tender and juicy. I love that they cut or rather chop it to order. Throw it in a super burrito or a quesadilla and you have yourself a meal for $5.

Been coming to Ann's locations all over Boston for a while now. The Porter Square one is convenient for those going to the commuter rail or subway as its right there around the corner.

When I visited last I got a super carnitas, rice with refried beans, lettuce, and hot sauce. Simple. The carnitas had actually just come out so I did not see the below mentioned meat in water problem. The burrito itself is the perfect amount, and does not overwhelm you with the size of its contents. I've seen many a burrito at other chains rip or explode upon eating, but never at an Anna's.

The have a better than normal selection of drinks to choose from. There is your typical soda machine, but they also have Mexican Coke (real sugar), Jarritos soda, horchata and jamaica juice.

Ordering can be a little daunting if you do not know what you want, or do not know what is in front of you, as the menu is sparse and there are no markings in the serving area. I've never had a rude experience, but then again I've known what I've wanted.

For the price, I can't think of a better place to grab a quick bite.

I LOVE this Anna's!  Line always moves fast, the food is awesome, it's priced amazingly well.  AND even if I haven't ordered a fresh veggie burrito if I ask them to chop some and add to my chicken burrito they always do.  Recommendation--try their quesadillas, they are incredible!  It's like this amazing mix between a burrito and a traditional quesadilla, yummy!!

"Ewww...they use sliced cheese instead of shredded."  "Ewww...it's not AUTHENTIC."  "Ewww...you have to pay for guacamole."
    Oh...Shut...UP.

Unpretentious, freshly made and oh-so-quick, cheap cheap cheap, it is what it is.  Smuggle in your own guac and sour cream if kicking in an extra quarter or two offends your bratty self.  Bring a cheese grater, maybe the cheese for that matter.  And if you want "authentic," what makes you think you'll find that anywhere in New England?  K...I'm over the hatin'.

I suppose anyone who walks into an Anna's expecting other than an "inauthentic" fast food experience deserves to be disappointed.  For me it totally works.  Pastry shell, slices (the horror) of cheese, filling of your choice, toppings of your choice, wrap that sucka up - you've gone from the end of the line to the front in seemingly seconds flat.  Then comes the real decision.  Which of the sodas in the dazzling array of colors will go with today's snack or meal?  Hmmm...Sidral Mundet...Mexican Coke...Jarritos?   We should all at least be able to agree that when it comes to carbonated sugar (not HFCS) water with carcinogenic dyes, Anna's indisputably delivers.

It's true that I call the place Anna's Tacky Rear.  But it's out of affection, the same way it is when you and your friends give each other "inappropriate" nicknames.

So, my last review of Anna's Taqueria was flagged for lacking substance, for writing just the following:

    "SO RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE! lol"

Thanks for the flag, fair is fair. I actually thought this said it all, but I'm glad that it gives me the opportunity to expand upon my experience there; so that it can justify specifically what I had experienced at this unusually rude establishment.

Being from LA, I imagine the Boston area lacks, locally, the opportunity for good Mexican food. In LA, it's so easy to find good, even decent Mexican meals. So, I imagine that there would be an even stronger effort for the Boston area to make the best Mexican food since it's not as common.

So, based on my experience in Mexican food: Aside from Anna's not really tasting like Mexican (it's just somewhat tasty food, but it doesn't feel like real Mexican) the experience of ordering your food is truly abrasive. So, it's not the "just okay" food that bothered me... the rudeness is what pushed me over the edge!

The counter people are just plain rude! There's a "come on, let's get a move-on" kind of a tendency. I wouldn't care so much that the staff wasn't friendly and tried to rush me (it's like a glorified food truck there... I get the M.O. and have no problem with that), but please don't get visibly angry at me if I ask what something is. This is a very basic  need and customers shouldn't have to worry about being rudely confronted. I KNOW Mexican food, but how it's set up at Anna's is not entirely clear what each item is! If you can't clarify - even to someone whose been eating Mexican food their entire lives - DO NOT get angry at your customers if we have simple questions. There's also a lot of huffing and puffing on the other side of that counter. It's enough to really make you just as equally angry as the staff!

On a positive note, the food FEELS fresh, but it's so fresh that the taste is compromised. Nothing tastes properly seasoned; hence, it lacks the feeling of a genuine Mexican food experience, liken to an upgraded Taco Bell, which we all know is NOT Mexican food. Neither is Anna's: Anna's Taqueria and Taco Bell, figuratively, go hand-in-hand.

Other Mexican establishments that are actually REAL Mexican food (there is a great sit-down place in Chelsea, name escapes me) actually have friendly staff/servers and seem really happy that you're there to patronize them. Anna's Taqueria staff come off as if you're burdening them. They will huff/puff if you inquire about any little thing... God forbid you interrupt them in the middle of their burrito-making routine!

    So, to that, I repeat:

    SO RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE! lol

I do hope this is now clear. Thanks Yelp for giving me the opportunity to expand.

Ok so Anna's is delicious, and this location is by far the best one, but I can't give it 5 stars like I could have a few years ago.

I'll start with the negative: The portions are getting smaller and the prices are going up. Don't get me wrong, you still get a decent amount of food for under $6, but I remember the days when you could get a huge burrito that would be enough food for the day for about $4.

Now for the good: the burritos are always made with high quality ingredients, they're always rolled perfectly, and they're always tasty. I always get chicken or carnitas, and they're both very good choices. Also, I highly recommend the super quesadilla-it's not on the menu but it's really good.

Oh, and they started taking credit cards...finally!

Honestly, I don't understand what all the hype is about. I've had better burritos elsewhere. I guess for what you pay it isn't bad but to me why bother with a flavorless burrito. Isn't Mexican supposed to be about flavor and spice?

Line was long but moved fast and I ordered two super burritos. I would stick with a regular the super is kinda big. I really don't like how they put on the cheese, it's literally a slice of cheese. Where's all my shredded cheese that gets all in the meat and veggies of the burrito?

You order just like any fast food burrito joint by telling them what you want for meat and your fillings. I had the grilled chicken, while it tasted edible it certainly had no flavor. I even had salsa added to mine and it barely put any flavor into it. I literally went home and poured on a gallon of Tabasco for every bite. Also, don't let the cheap prices fool you!!! They charge for sour cream!! Guacamole I can understand but sour cream?!?!

The wait staff was quick, friendly and efficient. About the only reason why I didn't give less stars. They do conveniently have parking in the back which is great since it's in Cambridge.  If you are just looking for a quick, very filling, bland meal come here. Otherwise I would go elsewhere. Oh well, live and learn. I'll stick to other burrito joints.

Anna's keeps it simple. They make no pretenses of making fancy-shmancy Mexican food, just your regular fare.. tacos, burritos, quesadillas, but they do it fresh and they do it well. The carnitas are always well cooked and moist, the grilled chicken is tender and flavorful, the al pastor will melt in your mouth and the lengua (tongue) is an acquired taste, but delicious too. They've also added steak in red sauce, which is hot and spicy and yummy!

I love the staff at the Porter Sq. location, warm and friendly, and quick service with a smile. Often I've run up here and gotten something to go and made it back down to the commuter rail stop on my long trek to the boonies, especially on cold nights.. just me and my super steak burrito.

Anna's Taqueria is about two things: generous servings, and low prices.  This is not a gourmet hot spot, locavore lounge, or even a hipster hang-out.  It is a chain, but still strives to offer somewhat authentic Mexican quesadillas, burritos, tacos and chips.  It will fill you up without emptying your wallet.

Mmm Anna. You vixen you. Anna's taqueria is easily on my top ten places I want to eat the week before Armageddon (after all these random fish and bird suicides lately, looks like I'm getting burritos soon) hahaha... But I digress

This place is awesome, I always get the grilled chicken super burrito with the works and a large sprite. Oddly enough sprite is the perfect companion to an anna's burrito... Seriously delicious. And other times when Ive felt adventurous I've gotten some other stuff as well- I've left very satisfied.

This place is hilarious tho, Ive seen everyone from hippies and couch suffers to lawyers arguing on the phone while downing a quesadilla to random celebrities (hint- a pats qb with a mullet, and a brazilian supermodel with a German sounding last name, among others) at this place... It literally has the strangest collection of fans that I've seen.  But it's one of those places where you sit elbow to elbow with random people-all who have the same intentions: to down as much Tex Mex yumyums they can handle and leave with a food baby and tighter pants than those you came in with. Oh yeah, they have healthy stuff too- hahaha. Easily red line and bus accessible- definitely try to check out anna's next time you're craving a great burrito

My review of this place is going to be a bit slanted since I've now had real Tex-Mex.

Their quesadillas and burritos are pretty good, but lack that little something extra.  Believe me, there's really nothing quite like Anna's Taqueria to satisfy hunger. I probably should buy two since I inhale the first so quickly.  The problem is that after the first one, I'm pretty stuffed.

Sometimes the cheese quesadilla, while generally good, can have a bit of an off flavor--almost like I'm licking the grill it was cooked on.  That makes it sounds much worse than it really is, but that's the best way I can describe it.

I gave the one in Davis 5 stars as well, this one is just as good plus there is parking. What's better than that? I don't believe those photos of the meat with the Spanish captions, those could be from anywhere. Probably just a smear campaign from a former employee. I would eat here with confidence any time, and so should you.

If you're reading this review because you've never been to Anna's, just go and try it out.  I have found all locations of Anna's I've been to to be very consistent which is a good thing.  This place just started offering fresh avocado (maybe they all do now) which is soooo much better than getting the guac, though it is more money.  My one complaint with Anna's is that some of the burrito-makers don't take care to spread out the ingredients so you end up with meat at one end and a giant pile of jalapenos at the other.  Also, I wasn't wowed by the breakfast burrito but it's better with the green hot sauce on it.

Easiest go-to place for Mexican throughout Boston. Quality and taste consistent and at all locations which is great if you have friends in town and are hard-pressed for a place to go grab a quick, cheap, satisfying, bite to eat.

I tend to stick with the quesadillas -- maybe since it was the first thing I ever had here many years ago. I'm not even sure I've ever had an Anna's super burrito? However, that should clue you in to how good the quesadilla is. I get it with pretty much everything on it so it's definitely a full meal -- if not a little more. Guac is thick, a little chunky, and creamy, so near perfection!

Prices are right for what you get. Service is fast, although I agree that the menu/ordering system could use some tweaking to make it friendlier to those of us who do not frequent Anna's.

No longer cash only which is nice... would like to try their breakfast if I can get there early enough on a Fri-Sun.

Last night I was running around Porter Square, picking up last minute gifts and beer for the homestead when my tummy started rumbling. I gave in (yet again) and stopped in at Anna's for a quick burrito to go. As usual, when I got home and started eating all I could think was 'why didn't I just drive down the street to Tacos Lupita?'

Anna's burritos have gone from decent (if you don't know any better) to downright nasty. Why is the salsa so watery? My burrito was leaking all over the damn place. As the prices have increased, the quality has taken a nosedive. And the burrito maker guys always hit on me in a completely indecent and offensive way. Gross. I can say with conviction, that was my final visit to Anna's. So long

My new reward for 2-hour+ long runs:  an Anna's super burrito with carnitas, refried beans, salsa, lettuce, and extra hot sauce.

Yesterday I was tempted to slink home early in the middle of a long run.  As I approached the Cambridge side of Mass Ave from the Mass Ave bridge, I  told myself "self, you may have a burrito if you run down the Charles past the JFK bridge and then cut up to Porter Square."  Near the end of it, I nearly took out some unsuspecting tourist types as I scooted past Harvard, past Boca Grande, and finally around the corner of the Porter Square T station.

    1 super burrito + 1 medium half coke/half diet coke = :)

This review would be four stars if Anna's would stop charging for everything I add to my burrito! When the first Anna's opened in Brookline all the toppings were offered in large quantities and for free. Now it gotten to the point where a burrito or quesadilla can cost close to $10 after they have charged ludicrous amounts of money for guacamole, sour cream, and any other topping. Considering the cheap cost of the food, which is clearly bought in bulk - there is no reason to charge so much money.

I just don't see it anymore. Once I called this best bang for the burrito buck, but now it all tastes the same.

The prompt service that used to impress me now feels rushed and impatient. The once fresh-seeming ingredients have grown bland and tired.

It feels like an assembly line, a get-what-you-pay-for, cheap assembly line. The tastes have had approximately 45 seconds to mingle and interplay by the time you get them. There is no love in this food, no joy.

I can't think of any compelling reason to eat here again. Perhaps it's because I ate here so many times that I can recreate the taste in my imagination, but I that's just as much a testament to the limited selection.  Sometimes I'll be exhausted and starving and it's right there, and I'll stop in and get something, but I leave afterwards feeling like I let myself down.

Tacos Lupita is a five-minute walk from here. Please, for everyone's sake -- yours especially -- just go there instead.  You'll thank me.

No. No. No. No. No. This is not good food people, let alone good Mexican food. I do not understand the love that Boston has for this place. Why otherwise adorable, smart, and awesome boys and girls bring me here on dates and get-togethers and after movies talking about, "Oh my god, best burritos ever!" These are HORRIBLE BURRITOS.  Not horrible for the Northeast, not horrible for Massachusetts, horrible for any place at any time.

The quality of ingredients is just not there. At all. The meat is dry, the beans are undercooked, the pico is brown and sad, the tortillas are store-bought, and the chips are straight up Tostitos. Everything is oh god seriously over-salted and for real Anna's, why are you charging me $4.95 for a tiny, tiny cup of mediocre guacamole (that I'm reasonably sure came from a boxed mix) and $2.00 for a handful of Tostitos that you transferred from a plastic bag to a paper bag? $0.85 for sour cream? $0.75 for a slice (not grated, but a slice) of sweaty cheese draped unceremoniously across my "Mexican Plate?" Really?

These people can't even make their own tortillas or chips and you're telling me this is the best Boston has to offer? Noooooo. I love you, Boston, but your asses just do not know Mexican food. Dear god: Taco Loco, El Azteca, Forest Cafe, literally any place in East Boston or on the East Somerville end of Broadway. Go to those places, do not go to Anna's Taqueria.

I have to update my last review because of two revelations.

First of all, it seems prices have gone down across the board.  Under $5 for a super burrito, $4 for a quesadilla, these are 1999 prices, people.

Second, and most notable, they have Mexican Coke.  I don't know how long they've had it.  I haven't been to an Anna's in maybe 4 months, but I have been going for the past 10 years.  You'd think I'd pick up on this.  For those unfamiliar with Mexican Coke, it's Coke made with cane sugar instead of corn syrup, and it crushes regular American Coke.  Have you ever had a friend go to Europe and come back saying how good the Coke is over there? This is basically that.  Props to Anna's for carrying Mexican Coke.

My feelings towards Indian and Mexican food are pretty much one and the same: the conditions must be right and I usually require a craving to seek it out.

Anna's is pretty much considered fast-food Mexican. It's cheap, it's fast, and it's satisfying. I ordered a grilled chicken taco which was gone somewhat quickly. However, the shell was kind of unappetizing. I can't quite put my finger on why I didn't like it, I just know that I didn't. The solution: fork! Thus I get a tasty taco salad with no nasty shell. Huzzah!

The downside to Anna's: they haven't caught up with the Plastic Age of fast food establishments. Cash only, no credit cards. Boo!

Beware - they don't take credit/debit cards.  There is a Soverign Bank ATM around the corner but that's an added $2 fee if you use Bank Of America.  Instead, run into CVS which is right there, purchase a pack of gum or tic tacs or a large box of condoms and get cash back with your purchase.  No fees!  Yaay!

Anna's tortilla chips and salsa are great.  The line can be a little long during the lunch rush but other than that the place is generally quiet and calm.

Oh, and for parking, if you can't get a spot in the Porter Square Shopping Center just cross the street and park in the free lot behind Anna's.  There is a back door entrance (snicker) to the building.

    Good, cheap, filling burrito yuminess.

I'll try not to get dragged into the debate on this. Let's just say that if your only complaint is the lack of hotness, bring your own hot sauce, there's more to flavor than burning your tongue. Also if you prefer Bocca Grande you are a booger brain.

The reason Anna's gets 5 big ones is simple:

    Wrapping technique.

The world is full of tasty burritos that are just too damn hard to eat. The defining characteristic of a burrito is that it's all wrapped up in a tasty package that is easy to eat on the go. If the diameter of the burrito is larger than that of your open mouth hole, you have no choice but to take half bites, leaving the end you are eating uneven. This inevitably leads to little bits of meat, rice, beans etc falling out and making a mess. This is only exacerbated by the fact that most burritos are too loose as well. Anna's rolls their burritos like a fine Cuban cigar, tight, clean and the perfect shape.

If you like a giant, messy, almost spherical burrito that falls apart in your hand half way through eating it, then by all means go somewhere else.

A word of caution: You have to be on point when ordering. The guys at the counter are busy people, and they don't have time to sit there while you hem and haw over what kind of beans you want. So know your order and be ready to speak up. A moment's hesitation or lapse in concentration and you'll end up with the burrito that they want to make, not the one you want to eat.

Anna's is an experience.  The assembly line, yelling, and watching them slap guac, sour cream and all the fixins on your hot tortilla.  While it does have the ambiance of a MassPike rest stop, there is no argument that they make a good "super burrito."

I'm not going to get into the "I'm from Texas" or "I'm from Mexico" or "I am a Mexican from Texas" stuff about what a real burrito is.  You want authentic, walk your ass down Elm to Tacos Lupita.  You want Anna's, you go to Anna's.

But what's up with the no free refills?  Seriously, anyone want to guess as to how much syrup for the Coke machine costs?

I will firmly say that Anna's pumps out the best burritos in Boston.  They are quick, fresh, tasty, and how you want them, as long as you talk quick enough.  I stop here whenever I get my hair done, because it's on the way home if I walk.  I picked up a chicken burrito last night, and it was outrageously good......I went for the refried beans (black beans are NOT okay) and loaded up on the jalepenos and I was happy.  For under $6, you can't beat it, and it's easy to eat on the go.

Besides Tacos Del Charro, this is my go to for Mexican.

    I'm so confused!

Anna's consistently makes me a halfway decent burrito, but why is it that every single time I go here and order the same thing, the price is always different? Really now.

Sometimes they charge you for rice and/or beans, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they charge you for guacamole, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they just put things in that you didn't ask for, and then charge you for it. I swear, I never have any clue what I'll be charged here, and I order one of the same two things every time.

Last night was the final straw-- when they charged me $5.58 for a quesadilla that is listed on the menu as $3.75, I was like "what the hell, yo?" She said she was charging me extra because I'd asked to sub beans for salsa. Okay, so the last guy was okay with the substitution, she's not. Fine. But nearly $2 extra for a spoonful of beans???

Just a little further down the road, there is a Boca Grande, where the burritos taste very similar and are about the same size, but where the rice is always vegetarian, the staff is always friendly, and the prices are predictable. 'Nuf said.

    Disgusting!!!

That's how I would describe this food.  To label this food as Mexcian is a travesty. Growing up on the border of Texas and Mexico, I dined on the most flavorful Mexican food around, and let me tell you that this food is bland and everything that can be watered down to the fullest extent will be.  The guacamole is primarily chunks of tomato with a little bit of avocado, yet they charge exorbitant prices because it has avocado. The salsa is pureed tomato, the chicken is flavorless, the rice does not have the traditional color or flavor. It's just terrible. I really do not understand how anyone can patronize this establishment.  Avoid it at all costs!!!!

I honestly do not understand why people get their panties in a jumble over Anna's. Sure it's cheap and fast and tastes okay (but not great). BUT, but my friends, this is not what a taqueria should be.

Eating at Anna's makes me miss the west coast because I know what good burritos are like.

Arguably the best burrito in Boston, though still falling short of west coast quality. That's just a fact of life though. You can't find many amazing taqueria's on the east coast and it's hard to find a really good pub or mediterranian restaurant on the west coast. So we take what we can get, and Anna's certainly doesn't disappoint.

Now, while I love El Pelon, and Boca Grande and Felipe's, Anna's has them beat on the burrito front. I wish I had a definitive reason why, other than my taste buds just say so. Maybe it's something about the fresh tortilla, or the way the guac, sour cream and salsa mix together with the grilled beef, all of it never too dry and just a little messy. Maybe it's that the grande is big enough and so well wrapped that I can use it a burrito duel (inspired by some pre-dinner drinks) and the contents remain contained, replacing my former favorites, Carrot and Lemajun. The McWrap was just a disaster. Lettuce and mayo everywhere.

Whatever the reason, Anna's is my number one choice for burritos in Boston.

Anna's is where my love of mexican food began. I ate here 4-5 times a week in college. Almost every order was two regular grilled chicken burritos. Never got the super, like most of my friends, because I don't like a bunch of rice and bean filler. The regular had just the right amount of chicken and rice. Great hot sauces, good tortillas and I'm a fan of the flat melted cheese. Some of the best chicken I've had in a fast food style restaurant. Definitely miss this place living in nyc.

Anna's. I've been coming here for almost a decade now, and it's such an institution among people I know, that it's difficult to write a proper review. Like reviewing water: it's pretty good, won't really do if you're looking for dinner, but you can't really do better if you're looking for a thirst-quenching beverage.

Inevitably, Anna's is the answer. It is delicious. It is cheap. It is fast. When I was still in high school, I would drive the 25 minutes into Cambridge, order my burrito, eat my burrito, and drive 25 minutes back to school in an hour-long free period. And I would see 32 other people from school at Anna's. I once knew a kid who broke his jaw, and couldn't chew throughout the recovery, so switched to the Mexican plate so he could grease up the nuggets of steak goodness with sour cream and swallow them whole. That's some dedication.

Anna's establishes a price-performance barrier that is hard to get past, especially before price increases came into effect (which only now have caught up to inflation over the same period, and pushed a burrito over $5). $7 fancy sandwich? No thank you. $3 Big Mac? Naw. Give me a hefty aluminum-wrapped package of meaty goodness held together by hot sauce and salsa. Some people swear by the quesadilla, which I'll go for once in a while, but for me the burrito is where it's at. Are you rushed to order? Yes, but that's just because everybody behind you already knows what they want. Figure your shit out before you get to the counter. Whachuwan. Super steak. Beansnrice? Black beans. Whatelse? Lettuce, salsa, extra hot sauce.

Now I need to go put some Anna's in me.
