I am extremely picky about my hair, as it's short and platinum. Finding someone who is good at both of these things is extremely difficult. I can't tell you how many times I've paid over $150 for something that is a bad imitation of platinum. I am new to Ann Arbor and searched for reviews on Yelp that talked about platinum and found Dawn. This lady knows platinum. Seriously, if there was advanced certification for color, she would have a PhD.
Anyway, enough about the platinum (it's perfect, nice and silvery with not a touch of yellow or blue). The haircut was awesome, and the environment is super laid back and friendly. It's not really a "salon," it's just Dawn's own space in a super funky art deco building downtown, no high-pressure salon sales, no products being shoved down your throat.
Prices are market (actually very reasonable for platinum, which is a multi-step process) and services are far above average. I have heard that Dawn is really good at fun, non-traditional cuts, but she can do boring hair too (and men's hair) so check it out! But don't take my Saturday 12n time slot please! -

I can't speak to Dawn's haircutting talents, but her ability to run her business properly is lacking. I made an appointment for a wash and cut and when I arrived at the appointed time was told "No, I have you down for 5:00," an hour away. At first I was annoyed that she didn't apologize for her mistake, then later realized she thought she was right. She was not; when making the appointment she suggested 3:30? 4:00? and I specifically told her 4:00 was perfect because that's when I get out of work right around the corner. She replied "Perfect!"
My time is valuable to me and I can't afford to deal with such a flake. For those of you with time on your hands I hope it's worth any such aggravation. -

I've been seeing Dawn for about 6 years now even though I have moved out of Ann Arbor. I was really excited to get my most recent cut because I have been dreaming about a funky, asymmetrical cut and have always wanted Dawn to try something edgy, fun and different. I am 100% obsessed with my new cut! Dawn's layering and shaping is superb and her razor work is bad to the bone. Dawn can do a great traditional cut but she is AWESOME at fun and funky cuts.

I followed Dawn from Above Ground, and now she has her own place. It is super cozy with a great view. I have had a lot of fantastic color, but Dawn gave me hands down the best vanilla platinum ever.

Dawn is already ready to fit me in for a cut--she just helped me out, cleaning my hair up for my summer road trip before she closed up for Art Fair.
I rarely know precisely what I want and she does a great job figuring out what is going to look good and do what I want.
