Review from Jennifer S.
Saint Paul, MN
Super friendly, quick, uncomplicated, and yummy. Only, don't go for their coffee. It's only colored hot water.
Everyone we passed as we walked into this place said "Good morning." Hearing that multiple times each morning should cause one to have an outstanding day.
Regulars sat at the counter. Dad and I sat in a booth.
Coffee was nearly tasteless, but I expect that in our midwestern diners. The bacon was well-cooked and tender, the over-easy fried eggs were perfectly done, and the pancakes were piping hot and spongy. Although they don't have *real* maple syrup, they do have large squeeze bottles of honey. I like that.
When I saw the name of this place on a sign along the freeway that morning on our way to Des Moines, I had a good feeling about it. And I (again) thank the woman behind the counter at "Cafe Diem" for recommending it when we stopped in there briefly to just see what they had. -

this is rather confusing. First of All the picture is not the Ankeny Cafe. it is the Ankeny diner... the ankeny cafe is 310 ankeny blvd. The diner is ok. the ankeny cafe is simple and the food is tremendous...and inexpensive... Plus the people who own and work there are very nice people

Opened door and everyone looked at me like I was from outer space. Err... Chicago. Food came fast. Decent, not good. My buddy thought overpriced (he paid). Beautiful, blue-eyed waitress. Won't go back, for the food.
